- Other Info We have had this lovely little dog with us for two days now and we have scoured the area looking for her owner. She isn't chipped and by the look of her paw pads and claws, she is a little house dog and doesn't get out much! I do hope we can reunite her with her owner, she is a little sweetheart and I'm sure somebody somewhere is missing her terribly!

- The name Rosie really suits her and the reason made me smile.
Just as well she didn't pee on the rhubarb though :)) - 2016-05-18 12:45 billybob
- Hahaha ClaireC that's just brilliant! Lucky Rosie :)

- Trying very hard not to cry at my desk-what a lovely ending. Funny how fate has a way of working things out sometimes. Hope you will both be very happy together.

- Lou and family, you were the Angels that this little dog needed when her previous owner passed and I am sure that her previous owner had something to do with that, in helping this little beauty find you. Have a very happy life little one with your new owners. xxxxx
- 2016-05-18 08:05 Esther
- Her previous owner would be so relieved to know that she has found herself such a great home. I hope Lou you have a happy time with each other, it certainly sounds like you will. Well done.
- 2016-05-18 06:27 ClaireC
- I will ask about her name.
- 2016-05-17 22:57 billybob
- Aww, a really happy ending! Good luck Lou and family. I am sure this lucky little girl will be very happy with you all as you've proved how much you care in just a week :)

- Delighted to hear this though not totally surprised because you were obviously smitten from Day 1 haha
Wonderful thing to do Lou and family- both for this little lady and her past owner. I'm sure she'll reward you with her love and loyalty.
Did you discover what she was previously called or does she have a new name? She's not UNKNOWN now; she has a new family and a place to belong :)
All the very best to you all. - 2016-05-17 22:49 Heth

- Great news. This lovely little lady has crept into the hearts of the lovely finder and her family and are going to rehome her as it is now known that her previous owner had died. I have given lots of advice on her settling down and i dont foresee any problems. Good luck little lady and enjoy each other in your new loving home xxLast edited: 2016-05-17 22:28:34 by ClaireC

- Finder and I have spoken and now aware of DW.
- 2016-05-17 18:36 Baydogs
- ClaireC, the DW was made aware of this little one- first post on this thread.

- Further to my last post I believe I have now found a permanent rescue for this little one. I will update further once confirmed.
- 2016-05-17 10:26 ClaireC
- Ive just landed back in uk. Let me talk to two rescues who foster and rehome. Once ive got home and will email/phone finder. Poss this evening. Most rescues/rehoming centres are at bursting point. But legally you should make your local dog warden aware that you have this little one just in case someone has registered their dog as lost! Of course dog warden can take dog with them and will serve 7 days and if not claimed may well be PTS! Sometime DW will allow dog to stay with yourselves for a little bit longer and may allow you to rehome with yourself!Last edited: 2016-05-17 10:36:14 by ClaireC

- A difficult situation indeed Lou because it is obvious you want to do the right thing by this dog and (I'd say) you have become rather fond of her...and so far no-one has come forward to claim her. But if she is abandoned, and she cannot stay with you any longer, or go to work with you as Mallory'smum suggested, then she has to move on somewhere......
The Dog's Trust has stated they can only take dogs who have been through the dog warden/pound process....but wasn't it on the 10th (seven days tomorrow) that you notified the warden? In other words, could it possibly be legally considered that she has served her statutory seven days with you?
Add to that the current uncertainty regarding her health...
If she should visit a vet and was diagnosed with a health problem that would not be conducive to staying in stressful surroundings such as the pound, perhaps the DW would agree that she could be released to an appropriate rescue where she could maybe be fostered until another quiet home was found? We do not know her age either; if the vet guesstimates her age to be on the elderly side then that, combined with any health issues, would also provide good bargaining power. Why not have her checked over. The vet may not be happy to treat without the DW's consent but at least you will have the information that you need to reason with authority with regard to her best interest.
If she is also considered to be well beyond her first flush of youth, then maybe the Oldies Club might be able to help-

- I'm no expert but I think it might be a legal requirement that stray dogs go through the 7 day pound process before being released to rescue centres for re homing. If not, Many tears do have a huge number of fosterers who may be able to help. If, as bay dog suggested, she does have a have a heart problem, this would be a likely reason for someone to dump her as the treatment is very expensive. Hope you find a happy solution very soon.
- 2016-05-16 14:28 Mallory'smum
- Is Many Tears local to you? They take in small dogs like this and do a wonderful job...failing that could she not come to work with you :)

- I just rang my local Dog's Trust and they have said that they only take dogs that have been through the dog warden/dog pound process. I'm at such a loss as to what to do!
- 2016-05-16 12:59 Hollieberry
- Just a thought would your local Dogs Trust be able to take her its maybe worth giving them a call .
- 2016-05-16 12:37 LOU
- Thanks for all your kind words and advice everyone, it really is appreciated! We've still had no luck and I just don't know what to do, my partner, our son and myself work all day and this little dog hates being left alone. I've already taken a week from work to take care of her and I can't keep doing it. The thing is, I just can't bring myself to hand her over to the dog warden, it's such a difficult situation!

- Yes ClaireC, sadly that is a possibility.Last edited: 2016-05-14 11:48:07 by Baydogs

- She may have very sadly come from somewhere else to be dumped! She may have belonged to an elderly relative who may have passed away or gone into a home and relatives didnt want the bother of a dog left behind! It does happen.
- 2016-05-14 11:36 Baydogs
- Another thought-
email or drop in posters to the vets in town and surrounding districts. Someone may recognise her from their client list. - 2016-05-14 11:26 Baydogs
- Sorry to here that Lou. If you are on Facebook, can you ask PAW to include her in their listings?
https://www.facebook.com/groups/PAWhelpingdogs/
Can you add her to Lostbox as well
https://mylostbox.com/found-items/page/10/
and
https://www.facebook.com/LostboxPets
I have already seen her Found notice on Murphy's Army.
Other scenarios to be considered-
Was her owner travelling with her in a car and she jumped out/ became lost after RTA?
Was she accidentally let out by emergency services if owner suddenly taken ill? (Care services would pick up on that if the owner receives care, but not if they don't.)
Was she stolen and dumped? Or found and dumped?
Do you have a local radio station that would air a little story on her today?
Have you reported her to your local police station?
Thanks so much for keeping her safe and in a much quieter environment than the pound.
Please continue to keep us updated. - 2016-05-14 11:10 LOU
- Well we spent all day yesterday taking this little lady everywhere to see if anybody recognised her but no luck at all! We have called the local care companies to let us know if any of their service users has reported their dog missing and we have put up more posters a little further afield, all we can do now is wait and see! I have to say I have been really shocked at how disinterested the RSPCA are, they couldn't have been less interested but the kindness of people online and local people has been overwhelming!

- Good luck with your enquiries today. Let's hope they are fruitful. One thing is for sure; this girl is in the right place whilst her owner can be found :)
Haven't seen her on PAW . Could someone share her over there please?Last edited: 2016-05-13 11:55:17 by Baydogs - 2016-05-13 11:35 LOU
- I am going to get in touch with the local authority care services in the area today, I used to work for one of them and I didn't think to ask them about one of their service users having a dog missing! It's a great suggestion, thanks Claire, I'll get on that today! The vet wasn't very interested when I took her to be scanned for a chip, the receptionist was so helpful and kind and she's even been in touch to see if we've had any luck in finding the owner, the vet quickly scanned her and told me they couldn't take her and I should take her to the local pound and then she left. I didn't go there to leave this little dog there, I only wanted them to scan her and take a quick look at her but to no avail! Thanks so much for the offer of financial help Baydogs, that's so kind of you! We are keeping a close eye on her and taking her for gentle strolls, nothing too strenuous! If we don't have any luck in finding her owner in the next few days we'll take her to the vets for a good health check. At the moment, she's sitting quite happily in the shade in the garden working her way through a chicken and sweet potato chew!

- You are doing a great job Lou. Have you tried ClaireC's suggestion yet- contacting local care authorities.
This shortness of breath concerns me though because she may have a heart condition that needs medication. Do you think she needs to see a vet?
Lou, just wanted to add that I'm happy to chip in re veterinary costs if needs be. Admin, would that be possible through the website?
Did the vet give her a check up when he scanned for a chip? It could be that this little girl is missing her daily medication for a problem unknown to us.Last edited: 2016-05-13 10:41:05 by Baydogs - 2016-05-13 10:14 Mallory'smum
- You do sound a caring person LOU-so decent of you to look after this little soul.
- 2016-05-13 10:06 LOU
- Thanks for all your tips everybody, we've been putting posters up in all the local shops and post offices and walking her around and handing flyers to people asking if they hear of anyone that may be missing their dog to give us a call. We also think she's come from an elderly owner, she gets quite short of breath quite quickly when we walk her and I have the back door open for her constantly so she can pop out into the garden for some fresh air whenever she needs to but she never stays out for very long, she does what she needs to do and runs back in the house. She hates being alone and loves to be cuddled suggesting that she had constant company with her owner. She's also house trained and hasn't had a single accident in our house so far! She's such a lovely little girl and we are trying to make her feel at home as much as we can, she was so nervous and scared when we found her, she's settled down a little now. I do hope we can find her owner! It's only been a few days so hopefully something will come up soon!

- You could ask the local care authorities/business if any of their home carers are aware of any of their older clients have lost their dog by someone inadvertently leaving a door open!

- Hello Lou. Thanks for taking care of her. If she has been a house dog there may be the chance that she belongs to someone older who doesn't go out much. Have you put a few of these posters around the village, especially places like the Post Office where someone might see it when they collect their pension? The local pub, schools and the village shop are good places too. Any older people in the vicinity that are housebound?
I've scoured these pages (and some other sites)for a match but none yet. Of course her owner may not have access to the internet so word of mouth and loads of posters will hopefully bring a result.
In the meantime, enjoy your cute house guest! - 2016-05-12 18:49 LOU

- I have informed the dog warden about this little dog but she is staying with us until we find her owner!
