So pleased that she's back.
Agree with Mistynsashasmum's comments regarding the pleasure in seeing a rescue dog gradually blossom in confidence and trust.

If you are considering a waist lead, this type helps to prevent being winded by a suddenly lunging dog :)

Hi Nelle, so glad you found her. (I'm not NickyJM by the way!) Keep her of course, Lots of Love and looking forward to seeing you and her (she looks a Lovely Dog!)xx
Unknown
Oh Wow How wonderful

I echo everything Jenny4 has said as exactly one year ago I took on a rescue dog that escaped from her new home she was on the run for a month and I tied an ordinary lead around my waist and got an extending lead put it on to the ordinary lead and let her follow me everywhere indoors and out until she got to know us and her new surroundings it worked a treat as the extending lead retracted and lessened the chance of tripping on it.

May I also say there really is nothing more rewarding than taking on a rescue dog and watching their confidence grow daily with you (love em)

Yes and as I always say Welcome Home Nellie and Stay Close Now
JulieH
Wonderful news ! :)

Well done, you did all the right things and have obviously shown Nell that she can trust and rely on you. I am sure you will sleep well tonight.
Please take note of advice from Jenny4, harness and double leads just in case she tries to make a bid for freedom again. X

I am so pleased..... make sure you take her in garden on long line for the time being so she doesnt go again.... also a harness plus collar when walking on 2 leads and a line indoors for the time being..it sounds extreme but street dogs are very clever....welcome home Nelle xxxxxxxxxxLast edited: 2016-06-11 21:37:17

Yes ! Nelle is with us! We were able to shut the gates into our yard really quietly while she was having her liver supper. No panic, and Nelle is relaxing now.Flaked out on my yoga mat! THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE for your support , reporting sightings and putting up posters. This is a week that we wont forget. It has been a real eyeopener- not least that dawn is really amazing! And people in Minehead and the dog community have been wonderful in their concern.

It's great that she feels safe on her blanket and is realising that you are her food source. Let's hope there won't be too many weekenders around to upset her routine.
Merlot
Oh my goodness this is such exciting news! Can't believe she was outside the house this morning! Power to sausages and BBQ'd chicken... oh and the love and dedication of her new owners! Come on Nelle!!!
Doglover
I am praying she will be back home today xxx

Sounds very encouraging. Fingers crossed for good news soon x
Nelle
Saw N last night by chance again!down by the sea. I spent some time with her,but left her there as she wouldnt follow. This morning when I got up at 5.50 she was waiting outside and was rewarded with breakfast she has crossed the threshold, (but only just, she is still very wary) into our yard and is resting there now, on a blanket I have left out. She is not secured yet,but she is inching herself closer to us and we are aiming to get her in over the weekend!
Unknown
Come on Nellie get those little paws home .just one final push bless you xxxx

Please continue to report any sightings to Nelle's owner and via this page. Please do not try to coax her or feed her. Owner is very close to securing her and it is amazing news that she is so close to home.
Doglover
Fantastic news ....let,s hope some really good news soon. Xx
Nelle
Yes thank you very much everyone who is reporting sightings. I was out at 4 this morning looking for Nelle.
I had given up and was just parking at home ,when N came past I managed to feed her again and she stayed close by resting for some time. She was then disturbed and went off but has since been back sitting across the road from my house but she was disturbed again. So thats progress and I feel closer catching her.
Can I please ask now that she is coming to my home that I am the only person to feed her. PLEASE DO NOT FEED NELLE.
Hopefully she will come to me for her food.
Thank you again
Doglover
Hopefully owner or Leash of life are monitoring this site and checking for daily updates.

A lady has rung to say she has seen Nellie twive at the war memorial om marlet road. the most recent being this morning at 3.30am when she was awoken by her howling.

fingers crossed for Nelle, she doesnt know that a loving home awaits her, hope she is caught soon x

Have spoken to the lady at Leash of Life and told her the N formation on my list below this one.

Rang Home Farm where Nelle was seen. Owner returned my call and she saw Nelle in her yard this morning. She thought Nelle was from the campsite. I have explained the situation to her and if Nelle returns she will try and entice her with food and secure her. She says she has lots of dogs and animals around so this may be the attraction for Nelle.

Just been sat with her on Pemswell Road near the bench (3am), she has been howling and barking. Happy to let me sit just away from touching distance until she heard a noise and left towards moor road. Hopefully she's home soon!

What some lovely, positive updates tonight. So hope you can gain her trust enough to get her to safety.
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Thanks Jenny regular sightings and she is visiting feeding station.

Nelle: that is really good news that she is coming to you, all those sausages are working then :).
Re Tiviton, that may be part of her area and just a first sighting, how does that work with the other areas she has been sighted when you look on a map?

Sidewater: People do that :( If you can just put some more up in a slightly different place, with a note in the margin that they will be removed once she is safe, please don't be disheartened they really do help and people will have seen them.

Spindle: thank you, already in hand, she is using the feeding station, indeed a streetwise dog as you have spotted and hit the nail on the head, Nelle's owner has done really well with the feeding.

Merlot: Thank you for your sensible contribution, I don't think anyone else realises just how hard Nelle's people are working to secure her and it will be worth it. Your second paragraph is why we may have seemed to have gone a bit quiet on the page, plenty of sightings owners and previous foster carer out there.

Everyone else: thank you very much for your continued help and support, so many people are being amazing and owner is really touched and appreciates all the help. Please report sightings on here and keep it calm.

We are close......
Merlot
I'm too far away to physically help in the search for Nelle but please remember that she slipped her collar on her way to her new home on Friday so the new owners haven't even had a chance to show her what a loving home she has waiting for her!

It must be a difficult and thin line between helping to 'catch' her and scaring her off but please do focus on the importance of getting Nelle home.

Please don't waste time and put people off helping by forming - and expressing - personal opinions of the owners, who are the kindest and gentlest couple and who must be anxious, worn out and no doubt somewhat stressed by this awful predicament :(

Nelle, great to hear that she is gaining confidence with you, that's such a good sign :)
Spindle
If you can get her feeding regularly in that field, maybe a humane dog trap will get her. She sounds very streetwise so wont be easy to catch.
sidewater
I have been up North Hill this morning and all the posters I had put up in the car parks have disappeared!
Nelle
Hi yesterday,Nelle came to me for the first time and had food from my hand, she lay a few feet from me for some time but i did not catch her she is very wary, but I will try to build on that. She is still coming to the field to feed. So fingers crossed. She did however go quite a long way yesterday out to Tivington which is obviously worrying. She is not interefering with livestock.I have made contact with local farmers through the Estate office and word of mouth. PLEASE KEEP REPORTING SIGHTINGS OF HER> Thank you.
Unknown
Any more sightings of little Nellie?
Poodle
Hi that's ok...we were no where the feeding station..the feeding station was in the other field
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
The area the feeding station does need to be kept quiet and should be visited by as few people as possible so that the familiar scent of foster person are preserved. Too many scents may cause Nelle to move further afield.
Has a trap been located? Maybe from the dog warden? I know a lot of people do not like to resort to this but used correctly it is less stressful for the dog in the long run than living on the streets. Usually as soon as caught they snap out of the fight or flght mode of a feral dog.
Skywalker99
Poodle and Nelle, your last few posts do neither of you credit. Better to pick up the phone and talk
Poodle
Forgive me, but To clarify we were stood on a public footpath in the woods overlooking the field....... As you are aware, being a public footpath! this is open to walkers and passers by although was extremely calm and quiet! (Being at 9.15 at night)

Very disappointed that you see help and support from people who have spent time trying to help you , (8.5 hrs searching, 2.5 hrs travelling to get to you and an hour printing posters for you) as a reception committee !!!!

Nelle
Surprised at your negative comments Poodle as I thanked you many times over for your great work in helping,I just asked you and your daughters to back off from the field as we were wanting to make it a safe and quiet place for her to come to and feed and be relaxed without a reception committee waiting for her, sorry that my request upset you
,perhaps as we had been searching since Friday after a 9 hour round trip to fetch her, a bit of tiredness had crept in to the conversation,it was unfortunate but that's my last comment on that, would rather be thinking about the dog. Thanks to everyone who's phoning in and helping.
Doglover
Such a shame Poodle, because if it wasn,t for people like yourself and like me who go out and search, a lot of dogs would not be found. Please do not give up, you are doing a brilliant job . Xxx
Poodle
We share frustrations with sidewater.... We were out until one in the morning on sat and out for 6.5 hours on Sun...searched the woods, streets and the town, and put around 25 posters up, although didn't put the rest we had up as explained below.

We contacted the owners for a second time on sun, after a further sighting and they told us the weren't going to bother coming back til later...so a missed opportunity! No point in putting posters up, reporting a sighting and not responding! We went back later and was very rudely spoken to by the male owner, who said we were interfering and had no need or right to be there and was told our help was not required ... We were creating more harm than good apparently , unsure how when we were quietly standing overlooking the field for the slightest glimmer

We did have more posters to put up which we were just about to circulate, and was told not to as in his words, the purpose of the posters was for when the animal homing team came earlier that day so as to point them in the right direction! So at 10pm last night we went home with the remaining posters! we didn't put them up because of the owners wishes.... Disappointing and frustrating

Agree with other posts in that the main purpose of all of this is to get the dog back safely, before something dreadful happens ...(unfortunately we never got our dog back safely and so are speaking from experience...despite the immense help provided by dogs lost followers and coordinators who were brilliant) .....Sightings are so important as is spreading the word! And any help you can get is a bonus!

We were going out again tonight with more posters! but haven't done as a result of the attitude of the owner and the distinct lack of appreciation.... We don't want this message to deter other people from helping , like it has with us who were fully committed, desperate, willing and able to help, as our worry is that the dog is still out there ... However we are somewhat baffled why help is being rejected... Our hope is that you embrace all help that is offered to you..as this may help in ensuring a safe return!

We do hope that Nelle is found soon..

DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
The rescue and the owner are being extremely proactive in securing Nelle, doing all the right things, although I am told a few more posters would not be a bad thing?

I am sorry that Minehead is too far for me to come and physically help, but everyone is doing a great job. Please don't get frustrated. Nelle will respond to calm and will pick up on any negativity. She is a streetwise town dog and is being fed, so farmers should have nothing to worry about.

sidewater
Nelle, where do you live and what is your phone number, incase she is seen around here again? Agree 4am is a good time to be looking for her. I could hear howling coming from Woodcombe area about 10.30 pm last night when I put my dogs out in our garden. I can also understand local farmers being annoyed, they can not be expected to like stray dogs who can not be caught and I know they are looking at this page.
Unknown
Get the food station into your garden with luck she will go there xx
rosanda
Saw her a few times yesterday and she seemed quite well and not too alarmed - plenty of time for her to be found hopefully. Please bear in mind that some areas of North Hill where searching has been going on have very poor mobile signal reception.
Nelle
I was out at 4 this morning looking for Nelle, she has found where we live ,and I am going to try and coax her in with something extra tasty tonight. She was howling near our home during the night and was seen in our road. We have put some of her bedding from her last home out on the gate. She is still feeding at the field. We are looking for her and have no missed calls on my phone. The number on the poster is for Leash of Life. Thank you for telling us where she is going.
Mallory'smum
Surely if a very scared dog is saved from being hit by a car or starvation by being found then it is not time wasted. Maybe the owners phones batteries have died...it happens. Please somebody keep looking for this dog-it is the poor creature who you are helping after all. Please don't let anger at a human stop you from what could be the difference between life and death of this dog...
Hollieberry
Sidewater its not the dogs fault she is out there & scared someone must try to help her if not the owners .
sidewater
No reply from phone numbers, no one at field where dog was lost from, No more time to waste trying to catch this dog, she is her owners responsibility what ever happens to her.

It appears she has been seen in "The Parks" Sainsbury road area at 7.15 am this morning. Now that happens to be near where I live so I do hope I can get her owners on the phone if I see her.
G
message seen. Bobble I will contact SIDEWATER , she has login in problems and asked me to post on her behalf.
Poodle
Leaving Exmoor in 30 mins to help with the search...is there a particular zone you need us to focus on, or shall we focus on the main area of sightings?
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
G are you able to let DogLost admin have the contact details for the farmer? They can pass to me and I'll give him a ring for a chat.

I don't believe she is a threat to livestock, she is a streetwise former stray and is rummaging in bins. Plus a feeding station being set up. However really grateful that he is thoughtfully holding off putting stock into the area, I'd never say never.

Have just got home after 2 Hr search by car....searched the roads mentioned, surrounding roads, seafront and town centre, but no sightings am afraid. I think you need to get posters up around the locality , on lampposts, in town, door to door, maybe taxi drivers also, as there is nothing up or around to say she is missing... More than happy to help with this ..please let us know ....
Jay
Driven up again this evening to walk my own dog - but no sign of Nelle. Given the number of sightings at the location she slipped her collar, it may be worthwhile for the owner (or foster carer if possible) to wait in the parking bay opposite the gate leading into the fields (at the top of Moor Road).

It's possible Nelle is on a loop, as all sightings have been recorded on North Hill - however, she was scavenging on bins which have now been disposed of. As a result, she may move further into town in search of food.....

Bobble /Poochpal - Peggy A Sidewater has replied to Jay's comment on Mineheadonline "That's where she was lost from, the field with the ponies".

Could Nelle be on a loop? There are other sightings on the post - is there anyone who knows the area who could map sightings and possibly predict her next move?Last edited: 2016-06-05 15:24:39 by GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland

Yesterday evening (20:00, 3/06/2016), I saw this dog on North Hill (Minehead), near the war memorial at the top of Martlet Road (where it joins St. Michael's Road). At the time, she was raiding bins at the junction. My mother and I attempted to coax her over using dog food (as we were heading up to the moor to walk our own dog), and despite eating, she was extremely wary. I followed her down Northfield Road (to the Rosanda House holiday flats) before doubling back to the bins. This was a streetwise dog (who had a great deal of road sense, and was able to find food), and impossible to catch without several people - the last I saw, she was heading down Weirfield road.

Just a quick update. I saw Nelle at 12:30 today at the top of Moor Road (where it joins Hill Road). After seeing the car, she darted across the road into one of the horse fields, before running back towards Minehead....

Is it possible for someone with a facebook account to share the information given above with the following links:

https://www.facebook.com/Mineheadonline/
https://www.facebook.com/LeashofLifeSW/

Nelle has been posted on both of these accounts. Last edited: 2016-06-04 14:33:57 by Jay
