  • Other Info *UPDATE* Esme has been found! She had made her way back to her old house, presumably scared off by anothe cat. Owner is over the moon to have her back. Esme is 17 years old. She woke the owner at 1:30 am to go out, like she has done a 1000 times, and then she heard a cat scream / fight. The owner ran downstairs to get her in but there was no sign of her. She heard something go over the fence then it all went quiet. Esme hasn't been back since. The owner moved house 6 weeks ago but its only 1/4 mile

Wonderful news. Am thrilled for the owner. Cats hate change and that is why they will try to find their way back to their previous home. It`s not easy I know but it is always best to keep your cat in for at least two weeks if you have moved. I had to kep my own rescue cat indoors for a month as she had been straying somewhee else for some time; recommended by Cat Protection. It is possible that she was scared by a "New kid on the block" And thus tried to find her way back to her previous home. I would keep Esme indoors for a week or two now if I were you, in case she goes awol again. Stay close now Esme:) :-) :-)xxxLast edited: 2016-06-08 13:14:43

*UPDATE* Have just received a call from Esme's owner and she has been found!!!! She had apparently made her way back to their old house. Presumably she was scared off by another cat. Esme seems well and healthy and owner is over the moon. Can someone please change this to reunited please. Don't know how to do it x

I would put food out at night. Call her in the early hours which is quiet. It is possible that as she is older she can't get back over the fence...adrenalin got her over after the fight, so flyers through all the neighbour's doors is a must.

can you get into surrounding gardens to check hidey holes? Do hope she is found soon.

It was several days before my sister's cat came home due to burglars - they get scared. My indoor cat got out, had a fright and bolted - he was gone two months and wa s a minute away in the local woods. I found him through posters - he was visiting a lady who left food out at night some time each night and that is how I found him. I help at a rescue and always check with them too

It could be that there is a new "Kid on the block" (Strange cat) A cat new to an area can sometimes scare a cat out of its own territory. though the cat usually returns back to it`s own home. Check behind hedges, bushes etc, as she is no doubt be very frightened. Also contact local vet to see if she has been ijured, and has been handed in. Walk around the area carrying something with her scent on, and gently call her name; she knows, and trusts you of course. Poster around the area, and put "Lost" posters through doors too. When she comes back (Hopefully she will ) I would keep her in overnight as I do with my two elderly cats. I have a covered litter tray in a spare bedroom Ask around too. Hope Esme is home soonLast edited: 2016-06-05 22:54:52
