Jayelle, although I haven't tested any of the newer ones on the market today, after many decades of using various carriers my own opinion is never to completely trust any of them.
Sometimes this can be user error-i.e. the catch isn't snapped exactly back into place when closed so when the carrier is lifted up the lid flies open.
Sometimes catches snap off.
Sometimes all is closed but the animal is so angry/frightened/ just wants-the-hell-out that it develops the strength of a super-hero.
I have known a hedgehog lift the lid of a box that was weighted down by a concrete block.
Never ever trust the cardboard carriers for anything but a completely unconscious being. They are useless. It takes about thirty seconds for a conscious animal to break out of them.

My answer to the above was to always check catches twice, then use luggage straps tightly buckled around the carrier as well. Even then you can still see the lid lift a bit if the animal inside wants OUT.
Hope that helps.

I feel ill just thinking about it. And so, so grateful to all the people who contributed to her rescue. Her situation with the appalling noise down there must have been terrible, I am amazed that she set about hunting for food.
What kind of carrier did she escape from? I would like to know to be sure NEVER to trust one.

OMG how many "lives" did she use up in one night! Very lucky cat. Stay safe and close from now on xx

this must be the worlds luckiest cat - not just be found alive and injured by live rail lines, but to be caught at all. I wouldn't have given her much chance - wonderful news. BUT HOW ABOUT A PHOTO OF THE BRILLIAN RAILWAY WORKERS WHO WERE WILLING AND ABLE TO CATCH HER - AND SAVING HER LIFE FOR SURE. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH

Thanks for the link Skywalker99. It was interesting to note one of the comments underneath-
"That cat is Lucky to be alive; the outside power rail carries 420 volts, and bridging that and the nearer running rail would do something very nasty to a cat's life. (The inner rail carries -210 volts, giving a total of 630 volts to drive the trains)."
I had wondered what the voltage was on the rails down there. Makes it even more amazing that she survived this adventure.

The latest from Lucky's FB page-
"UPDATE
Hi all, I can confirm it's true! Despite us going home in the early hours emptyhanded, I have awoken this morning to find reports that Lucky has been rescued after we left the tunnel! She was seen catching a mouse near Oxford Circus! She's fine but dehydrated, quite weak and dirty (unsurprisingly) but she's now got water and food and is safe and secure at the RSPCA. She's being checked over by a vet before I'm allowed to pick her up. Speechless and can't quite believe it!! Reunion pics to follow!"

Welcome home Lucky.xx

Excellent news. Am thrilled for Lucky, and her owner. Well done to all who helped capture her. Stay close now pleae Lucky. You have been lucky (No pun intended) And no more escaping out of cat carriers okay? :-) :-) :-)
Baydogs
Wonderful news! Well done to all, but in particular the contractor who eventually caught her. It can be difficult enough to catch a frightened agile cat under ordinary conditions but to find and capture one in a network of tunnels and escape routes is quite amazing. That man deserves a medal!

So pleased for Lucky and her owner.

Latest update from owner 4 hours ago as follows: UPDATE: "I am working with and in contact with TFL and relevant parties. We are putting something in place and I will update later. Thanks for your continued support."
Jenny
I agree with Skywalker. We need a trap. I cant get to Green Park, but there must be someone out there who can asap. I live too far away. Have the rspca and cats protection been informed of this cat? Is there any update on this cats rescue yet? Tfl cant leave her in there now they know of her whereabouts. She could get hit by a train in time. Its great shes in the news. The simple reason being, the more people that know, the more chance shes got of being rescued asapLast edited: 2016-06-08 22:40:35 by Jenny
Skywalker99
I am sure she can be caught but any efforts will need to be when trains are not running at night, unless a trap can be left somewhere. There is a train every 1-2 minutes on the Victoria line during the rush hour and almost as frequently outside it. Cat will not hear her owner unless the trains have stopped running. She I has made the national press today.
Unknown
How about some tuna Jenny. also a cat trap in case she "Does a runner" Cat Protection will lend them out for £50 which is refunded. Paws xd.
Jenny
Main thing is tfl now know shes in there for sure. They wont leave her in there. Surely they cant be that cruel. A tin of fish will do the trickLast edited: 2016-06-08 21:14:47 by Jenny
Skywalker99
Hope they get her out, no reason it shouldn't happen with the right people,a bit of patience and a calm approach.
Jenny
Oh okay. Hopefully shell get her cat out tonight. Please keep us postedLast edited: 2016-06-08 18:42:37 by Jenny
Shelagh
Sorry jenny I didn't make myself clear. What I meant was owner is at underground station and has no signal to receive calls.
Jenny
Please get her out today. Dont let her die in there. She has got a microchip so any vet can locate the owners address. Just get her out of thereLast edited: 2016-06-08 18:17:33 by Jenny
Shelagh
I have contacted RSPCA and cats protection on owners behalf and given them her details. Prob is we have no contact with owner so cannot do anything else as don't no what tf are telling her.
Skywalker99
Will tfl allow owner access accompanied by rekevbt staff once trains stop for the night? Lucky is hardly likely to re-emerge while trains are running! Can RSPCA advise or help? Is it possible to set a trap? I would be gutted if it was my cat, at least there are plenty of mice around in the tube!

Thanks Ladies!
Shelagh
Great Nik I was just goingoing to post that iinf. I have contact for owner and have text her that numbero
Unknown
TfL are not going to allow access to a member of the public, nor turn off the power during operating times. Owner needs to speak to Station Supervisor at Green Park who will alert overnight maintenance team supervisor for that section of the Victoria Line.
Unknown
She certainly is lucky. My cats come to call so hopefully lucky will recognise her mums voice. Everything crossed here x

email to admin...
Dear Admin,

Am contacting you on behalf of owner. Owner of Lucky has just been advised Lucky has been spotted today alive and uninjured in the same tunnel she ran into on Sunday by TfL patrol. Owner is now on the way to Green Park Station. Can you please give any advice/support regarding who needs to be contacted to get access into tunnel?

Regards,
Captain
Update: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/womans-desperate-search-for-her-cat-lucky-lost-in-green-park-tube-tunnel-a3266041.html
Skywalker99
Captain, she's in the tube system. I hope transport for London have been contacted, not sure how often they have maintenance crews in those tunnels.
Captain
Admin, are you able to contact owner and suggest they contact Metro newspaper and ask them to do an article on her on her so people traveling into London are aware and can look out for her?
Captain
Any updates? Are British Transport Police able to help with any access for searching? Would she be able to find her way out of the tunnel back onto the platform? In case she would display posters in and around station. Sharing and tweeting
Unknown
Oh my. Hope everything turns ok out.
