- I have never owned a tortoise but mt friend had them when I was growing up. I know they like to bask in the sunshine, or go under hedges/bushes. Have you young children who are smaller, and may be able to get down on their hand, and knees to feel for thr tortoise? Also ask neighbours to check their gardens too; also behind hedges/bushes. A ,lost tortoise on another site was found in the street. shells xd.
