- Great news. Have a long and happy life in your new forever home, lovely girl xxx
- 2016-07-06 08:35 NickyB
- lovely way to start the day looking at the reunited pages - especially the owners never showed up and the dog is given a new home where he/she will be loved

- Cassie's owner will check with Council tomoro as Cassie does have one distinguishing feature which or may not be present on this dog. Cassie was chipped and this one isnt. Will update when I know more.
- 2016-07-02 07:14 ClaireC
- Cassie's owner has now been advised of this found dog. I will update when i receive his response.
- 2016-07-02 07:02 ClaireC
- Baydogs, I really think you have to take up your issue with the Council in question!
- 2016-07-01 22:21 Baydogs
- This dog was only found on the 26th June. That's 5 days ago.
It was collected by the dog warden on the 27th June- FOUR days ago.
It has been put up for rehoming TODAY? That cannot be correct.....
To quote from Barnsley Dog Warden Service Webpage here-
https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/services/animal-welfare-and-licences/report-a-stray-lost-or-dangerous-dog/
"We'll pick up the stray and take it to our kennels, where we'll keep it for seven days, unless the owner comes forward to reclaim it.
If no-one claims the dog after seven days, we'll try to find it a new home or send it to a dog rescue charity. We'll only put a dog to sleep as a last resort."
This, as I know it, is the standard protocol.
Why is this dog being rehomed so soon? Seven days is short enough to find a missing dog, especially if it has been stolen from another part of the country. I know pounds and rescues are packed, but the seven day protocol must surely have to be followed?

- I am waiting on an update from admin re Cassies owner as I believe admin were trying to make conduct.
- 2016-07-01 19:20 Baydogs
- Already? That's never seven days....
- 2016-07-01 19:11 Lin Iddon
- from what I can gather from finder this bitch will be up for re-homing today, she is currently at Cliff kennels, Barnsley
- 2016-07-01 19:11 Lin Iddon
- thanks ClaireC, for taking up the reins x
- 2016-06-30 19:45 ClaireC
- In fact. I will email into admin on your behalf. Please wait for admin response. Thank you.
- 2016-06-30 19:43 ClaireC
- Got a better idea email into admin and ask admin to make contact with Cassies owner rather than yourselves who may cause more distress if it turns out not to be their dog. Quite often owners of lost dogs have young families who also become distressed as well!
- 2016-06-30 19:02 Lin Iddon
- Baydogs, I suppose with Cassie missing so long it is possible owner no longer updates Doglost page? Might be worth texting to see if she is still missing.
- 2016-06-29 21:08 Baydogs
- Noting this one, in case someone else thinks she's a match as I did earlier. So much was right-

Contacted the owner but this girl is no longer missing so definitely not the lass above. - 2016-06-29 19:42 Hollieberry
- Bonnie little girl ,she looks more of a chocolate colour then liver coloured. I hope her owners can be found it just shows how important it is to get our furry pets chipped.
- 2016-06-29 19:14 ClaireC
- Cassie would now be a lot older and this one is relatively young compared to her.
- 2016-06-29 19:06 Baydogs
- Hi missalice. Rocco put a comment on Cassie's page yesterday but I don't know if anyone has made contact with the owner.

- Long shot and a while ago but 49820 Cassie missing for a couple of years?
- 2016-06-29 16:25 Rubybella
- With reference to the situation that came about here I have now become aware of the 'legalities' of keeping a dog you find. It is an offence not to report it to the DW and the DW should issue you with a finders certificate, informing the finder that they are required to keep the dog for a minimum of 28 days. More information can be found under the Environmental Protection (Stray Dogs) Regulations 1992. Interestingly, in Scotland the legislation is slightly different. However, it is good to see that there is some legislation!!!

- pat88, thanks for the link but the spaniel stolen from the caravan is called Nellie. Nellie's owners have seen the dog from Barnsley and unfortunately she is not a match. Please keep looking and sharing though.

Id rather look at 100's of photos even if the same dog many times than miss the chance to find my Jazz. Thanks again for your time

- Barnsley dog warden has rang me twice today, I am so pleased that this beauty is now safe with them. Could the person missalice who created this doglost post please amend the details in the area of where found to read 'NOW SAFE WITH DOG WARDEN' please, this is at the request of the Barnsley Dog Warden that I spoke to. She is approximately 2-2 half years old and NO chip has been detected.
- 2016-06-28 19:13 Rubybella
- Phew, I am soooooo pleased she is safe. Well done to everyone concerned. If she is not claimed, I am sure she will find a good home. I have informed Spaniel Aid of this situation so I am sure they will help if necessary.

Sad it wasn't Nellie. I had discounted her on colour but Rocco was quite right to question that and make absolutely sure. Photos can vary. - 2016-06-28 18:48 Unknown

- GillyP, did the vet confirm that they scanned this dog and there was no chip present?
- 2016-06-28 17:55 Unknown
- Nothing from DW yet. The guy is responsive to messages and he may have entrusted his mothers friend to take to vets. We don't know yet. His mothers friend might have thought 'cute' and decided to take her home. We don't know. Let's not hang this guy out to dry just yet. Benefit of the doubt and all that. One thing he did do was take to the vets initially. Let's not speculate until I get facts from DW. I will let you know.
- 2016-06-28 17:11 Rubybella
- I don't think that is a fair comment! Everything was said out of concern for this dog. There were a number of things that didn't seem right about this situation, and although many of us would like to think good about everyone, it isn't always possible to sit back and ignore what you feel. I think based on what we have found out since, we were all correct to be concerned too!Last edited: 2016-06-28 17:19:57 by Rubybella

Gilly P - thanks for all your effort trying to get to the bottom of this. - 2016-06-28 16:37 Unknown
- Have spoken to all vets. He did take her in to one and they did send him off with her. Have now spoken with DW who hasn't been notified. Finder has told me a friend of his mother's supposedly took her to a vets but he will find out when he has eaten!!!. DW will now get an address for this guy and see what's happening. Will keep you posted.

- 2016-06-28 16:13 ClaireC
- Rubybella I am sorry but there are some vets, one of which is mine, that will ask you if you wish to take home with and notify DW as they too, are aware of how full the pounds are!

- I don't have a problem with a finder looking after a dog, but everything about this whole story doesn't sit right with me, principally the way that dog is scruffed and looks terrified. Also a vet would not normally say take it home, they would take the dog in and contact the dog warden to come out. Personally I don't believe that the dog has even been to a vet!
- 2016-06-28 15:44 ClaireC
- Rocco15 sorry but Nellie is microchipped and I personally dont think it is her!
- 2016-06-28 15:39 ClaireC
- Campion3 by advocating rspca then a dog will be there for 7 days and very likely to pts! Also police no longer take in dogs as has been handed over to local authorities. I have to say ive read the posts and to me looks above board. Some DW will.allow finders to look after a found dog and then rehome it. The dog has normally a longer period of 28 days in which an owner can go to the DW to inform them they have lost their dog etc.description taken and cross matched against any of the found ones "living" outside of LA kennels and probably in better conditions in lot of these places. It is less stressful for the dog as well. The pounds are full to bursting point and any offer of help of "fostering" must surely.be a good thing! Please try not to judge too harshly the people who are helping this dog in the interim and also offering a future home!Last edited: 2016-06-28 15:48:54 by ClaireC

- I only joined this site very recently as I had info about a lost dog to pass on (dog was subsequently reunited) and I am heartened by all the time and effort put in to help others who have lost pets. I now do a quick daily check to see if any dogs lost in my area. I do feel for this dog though and hope someone closer is able to check with the Dog Warden and post an update here. Even dry this dog does not look happy in the way it is being held. Going back to the earlier photos if an individual is prepared to care for a lost dog (and the vet agrees?) then surely he would have put a collar and lead on the dog rather than grab it by the scruff of its neck. Apologies for going on but this little ones plight has got to me.

Has anyone actually spoken to the DW about this dog ?
- 2016-06-28 14:53 Unknown

- I really hope that something is going on behind the scenes to get this poor dog somewhere safe. Hopefully Police, Dog Warden and poss RSPCA can be involved. Like others I feel very very uneasy about this situation and wish there was something I could do to help. Is anyone aware of which vet was involved in this case?
- 2016-06-28 14:44 Baydogs
- Thanks for your update missalice and for sharing this dog to some gun dog sites. The more we share this girl the better.
Generally (!) I personally do not have a problem with dogs being cared for by the finder - as long as the home meets suitable requirements for that dog AND the finder is willing to (at best) be pro-active about seeking the proper owner or (at least) not obstructive (because they have a vested interest in the dog.)
My concerns here are that this dog has not been seen by the DW, or photographed for the pound site. If this girl were mine, stolen (say) from Sussex, how am I going to know she is in Yorkshire? And, even if I phoned that particular pound, would whoever answering the phone actually remember that she is with the finder-not having photos to hand, or the dog in situ? It would be very easy for her to be overlooked or forgotten.
According to the Dog's Trust information:_Legal ownership is not automatically transferred to the finder who keeps the dog in their home for 28days, during which they are responsible for any vets fees incurred. After 28days, if they do not apply for formal ownership through the proper adoption procedures, the 'proper' owner can claim the dog back at ANY time.
But I'd rather like the proper owner to find this little lady ASAP :)
- 2016-06-28 14:44 Unknown
- I've just read all the finders comments. Seems legit.

Please can someone do something to get that dog out of there? I wouldn't be surprised to see that dog advertised on a free site pretty soon! - 2016-06-28 13:14 Jasper - Area Volunteer, Somerset
- This dog should be handed to DW. Surely it not a case of ' finders keepers' but rather finding the most suitable home for the dog in question when the time comes which may not be the finder. To handle an already stressed animal in this way is wrong. This dog could be bred from then kicked out on the streets again. I do hope the local DW will step forward.
- 2016-06-28 13:03 Simbarose
- I don't think its possible to turn off a chip as such. They can and do fail. Not all halos are universal and may not pick up all the databases. It may be possible to change owners details if they manage to get the chip number. Owners must make sure the chips details are up to date and report to their database if the pet goes missing or is stolen. My stolen dogs chip details as been locked and not even I can change them online. I have to phone and give security details.
- 2016-06-28 12:44 Rocco
- Could it be Twist or Cassie? 86717 or 49820 I know some dogs are registered as chipped, but I am concerned they may not always work or whether it is possible for thieves to disable them somehow x Is this possible anyone?

- Am in touch with finder. looks like his vets are aware and dog warden but other than FB doesn't seem to be much on the ground work done. Is there a Doglost co-ordinator for that area please? We really need some posters out, locally, pet shops, vets. Am happy to email some but won't be until later or tomorrow
- 2016-06-28 11:17 Lin Iddon
- I'm the person that registered this bitch on Doglost after being tagged in a FB post about a found dog. The information I have is pretty vague, I know, but it has been very difficult to gain the truth as the finder was not on any of the FB groups that the dog appeared on. I will share to gun dog sites, and if everyone else can do the same that would help a great deal. From what I can gather the finder has working dogs, he's got the bitch with him, apparently dog warden and vets say he can keep for 28 days then claim if no owner comes forward! Which is strictly true but there are strict rules to follow whist fostering for this period, i.e. secure garden, no kids, etc and it doesn't sound like this has been done? Dog is getting on with his dogs he says, and wants to keep it.I don't know if enough is being done on the authorities part to publicise.
- 2016-06-28 11:03 Rose
- Could be possible DW gave vet permission to return to finder? A finder on here last year was able to keep the dog they found if it was not claimed within a certain time. The dog doesnt look too happy but hope that is because it is held by its fur and not on a lead so they could get a picture out to the public!! Hope the owner is out looking for this beauty and she gets home very soon x

- Can someone share the photos on that link to all spaniel lost and found websites and forums if not already there please?
I've taken a look at the missing spaniels here on doglost and have not found a match though if someone else wants to recheck please do so. We need to search for this dog's owner.
One of the dried off photos showed this dog's belly. I thought I could see dropped teats so the lass has been bred from. Anyone else agree?
Yesterday when Karen was attempting to find out which vet this dog had been taken to there seemed to be a reluctance to provide that information. I question the reason why. I also question the reluctance to have the dog rescanned even though there was an offer to do so. Maybe that has been corrected since. - 2016-06-28 08:25 Baydogs
- This is the link to photos and comments about this dog. FB are still blocking me so I cannot personally read any updates. Last night I was briefly allowed to see this page and the photos of this spaniel dried off were there.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1717501528479137/permalink/1819762021586420/ - 2016-06-28 08:16 Rubybella
- Why have the vets given the finder the rights to this dog after 28 days ? This dog could be passed on/sold. It should be with the dog warden for 7 days and then handed to a rescue like Spaniel Aid. If this dog is a gundog then it is even more important that it finds the right home. Why has the finder not contacted Doglost itself and instead posting photos on Facebook that are hard to find?
- 2016-06-28 07:45 Simbarose
- It is thought this little dog is a trained beaters/Gundog so someone must be missing her. There are better photos on facebook showing her when dry and much calmer. They may take a bit of finding. There has also been a lot of comments posted about this little girl. Though she looks identical to Jazz when wet I can confirm it is not Jazz dog lost id 99179
