- It is now a legal requirement for all dogs to be chipped, surely it can't go be too hard to enforce scanning by vets. Come on folks lets get on the case!

- This is so sad - but nobody is legally obliged to scan - never mind check the database to ensure the animal presented is with the right owner. Please can we all approach our vets and tell them this awful story so they start to understand WHY we want scanning to happen? That would be an amazing tribute to this poor lass and her heartbroken family, if we could ensure that this was the last time this happenedLast edited: 2016-12-12 11:02:48 by wensmum

- This is so awful I am so sorry for you & Jessie. As Claire said most vets will check for a chip but I have changed addresses & vets several times and my 3 dogs have never had their chips checked when registered .I also took my eldery sick dog to a vets to be PTS the Vet did this without knowing the dog or me or even a proof of address.

- Still under investigation Jayelle. I have to say tbat most vets do scan now, especially if a "new" or unknown dog gets brought in. Maybe their scanner was used but didnt pick up chip! I am very sorry to read this sad story and the heartbreak that has been caused as a result. Run free Jessie xx

- What a sad outcome for everyone.
Are we able to know how this discovery was made and the euthanised dog linked to Jessie so long after the event, since the vet did not check her microchip? - 2016-12-10 14:35 susieq666
- I can't understand why vets don't automatically scan. My vet always scans mine even though we're regular customers. He says he's checking the chip is still in place and functioning. It takes a couple of seconds.

- For God's sake, let's keep petitioning to get vets to scan every dog at every visit. What on earth is going on, very upset by this. Goodness only knows how the owners feel. My deepest sympathy to you.

- Admin...think Jessie may need to be moved to Rainbow Bridge
- 2016-12-10 07:31 Skywalker99
- If ever there was a reason for vets to scan dogs they have not seen before this is it! And why steal a dog and put it down? unless you are a seriously nasty person who has a grudge against the owner.

- Disgraceful story - I hope that someone gets to the bottom of this and finds out why a 7 month old dog that is chipped and reported stolen is put to sleep by a vet on the say so of someone who isn't the owner saying that the puppy had bitten their child?
- 2016-12-04 21:05 sheltielover
