The law written on this kind of thing is pretty pointless as the Police seem to show no interest in missing or stolen dogs. Not known
Will try and explain this simply, if this woman found a dog and didnt report it to the police or dogwarden. She has committed theft by finding. If she did, then by law she had to keep that dog at the registered address for a period of one month. After that period she can do whatever she likes chip, neutered, rehome, BUT, should an owner come forward she has a LEGAL responsibility to return that dog to the owner or she can be prosecuted. All she can ask for is reasonable costs from the owner for the care of that dog. However if she handed the dog to the dogwarden and the dog served the statutory waiting days in a pound, and was then returned to finder, there is little any of us can do....the finder is the legal owner. If you want to ask me any more questions email me jazzi@doglost.co.ukLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Stay strong Melanie, Amy knows you're coming to get her soon!!! Is there any way of getting a huge group of you together one evening/weekend to literally comb the estate, all spread out so no inch is missed???? I'm sure there must be lots of local dog lovers willing to help you?? How about a plea in the local free paper? Wishing you so much luck and great big come home safely vibes to Amy. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you, thank you for rescuing the Border. I have been so worried about her since seeing her in rescue but could do nothing myself as at the other end of the Country. She so deserved a new home and will obviously be loved. I'm sorry though that you still have the worry of Amy hanging over you and do hope you find her very soon, you certainly deserve to. Best of luckLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Melanie sorry that the Border in the kennels was not Amy. Shows the importance of going in person and not just ringing as you would not have known about the dog in there if it was not for Molly's owner seeing her when looking for Molly. Melanie has been ringing the kennels and they had said they did not have any borders in. JanLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi. Also lost a dog in this area. In touch with local Rotherham dog warden so I will pass her a poster. Have you tried kennels at Hampole, Barsnley. Apparently this is where Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley Police and Dog wardens take strays. Also Mount Pleasant at Bawtry take in strays. Will ask my husband to take a picture with him when he visits them. Take care, hope she is found safe soon.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

EMAIL FROM OWNER: Update as follows: 1st August - Amy was seen by the butcher on Badsley Moor Lane, Eastdene, Rotherham. He thought she was with someone. 2nd August - The butcher said she came back and sat outside his shop and he fed her some scraps, but he only found out that she was missing when he spoke with one of my customer's on the following Saturday, so he is now watching out for her. He said that he saw her go over to the Old Badsley Moor Lane Hospital which is across the road. I went there on Saturday and spoke to the people that worked there and they said that they had seen her, (or a dog resembling her), so again, they will look out for her if she returns. 5th August - A man rang at 8.30 am and said that he had seen a dog like Amy on the Herringthorpe Leisure Centre Fields, while playing rugby. He said she was just sat about and going up to people. He rang us when he saw the poster. After he had rung, we went to look and shouted her name and handed leaflets out to passers by. A young lad said he had seen her and she was around the walk at the top of Eastdene so they will grab her and ring me if they come into contact with her. On Sunday teatime, a lady rang from Belvedere Parade, Bramley to say an old dog resembling ours had been sat on her front garden on Friday. She went out to catch her but the dog ran away. She rang me after she had seen the poster. It seems to be that everyone is seeing her and then seeing the posters afterwards. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As soon as Admin receives a photograph, the poster will be emailed out to helpers. Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Amy well. Stay safe Amy, until we find you x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
