So pleased to see the little found feller is now in a foster home, but sorry it is not Scraps, who we know is very much deeply missed by all his family, who have never given up looking for him.  Deb we are all still looking out for your lovely boy. The found dog is an ENTIRE male and Scraps is NEUTERED. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Can anyone help me get hold of the dog warden for south gloucester?  They have picked up a dog (on lost pages) that is the spitting image of my boy and I am desperate to see this dog this lady promised to call me back on Friday but I have not yet heard and I am not able to ring them as it goes straight to answerphone.  PLEASE if you can help ring me thank you Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jayne  I got your voicemail and I have just looked at the photo and I agree this is the spitting image of my boy in fact its the closest I have ever seen even the way he is sitting with his ears down is typical of him if he was worried or in trouble its too late to call this evening but I will ring them first thing tomorrow for further details.  I am confused about the message that says it cant be him as this dog has short legs as scraps has short legs?  I will get more info tomorrow as Scraps is chipped and neutered so this will narrow things down surely?  THANK YOU for all your continued help please keep everything crossed for us xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scrapsmum, a scar could appear white as hair does not grow on scar tissue so it would just be skin. Good luck on Sunday  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone,  I continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness of everyone on this site and all its friends that so many people are still thinking and looking for my baby dog helps so much I will never ever give up hope.  The last time I saw my boy he had no white on him, could it be a scar that has healed white? I have seen it happen before on such a dark dog?  Does this dog match his description other than the white?  I am going to Rochdale on Sunday to meet Scraps although I am convinced it is not Scraps we are in the position to offer this little boy a home so I will let you all know how it goes.  Once again my thanks to you all DeborahLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Fareham dog warden and thankyou for posting on Scraps page ! I have emailed & text Scraps owner to check if he  has any white markings at all. His owner is usually swift to reply  and I will post on here as soon as I get an answer from her xx PamLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
many thanks to the volunteer at Rochdale Rescue for spotting the possible match ! I  saw Angus on the RDR site last week and also noticed the likeness to Scraps and also realised he was going to a rescue local to where I live. I made contact with both the rescue and Scraps owners who   said this dog was the nearest match to Scraps they had ever seen. Unfortunately I dont believe it IS Angus as having spoken to the rescue Angus is entire whereas Scraps had been neutered and also Scraps was chipped and despite several attempts no chip could be found on Angus. Scraps owners  have been in contact with the rescue and as far as I know were going to drive down to see Angus in any case. Will update this page if I get any further news. Pam xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scrapsmum, have faith in his microchip. Frudow the boxer from YO62 came home on Friday after 7 long months - he too went missing from a tourist area during holiday time same as Scraps. Hi Rescue mum I have not heard a thing for weeks now the posters are still out there and new ones get put up but nothing it is so hard to hear nothing I think it was better when we had all the false alarms at least people were calling. Will we ever get him home? I ask this every night and every morning and just pray that we will but its hard some days to believe it! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes scrapsmum, it was Buddy. Poor lad, what an awful time he has had, and his mum and dad. I agree I would sell everything I own to get my dogs back if they'd been pinched. Some idiot on another forum wanted to know why they didn't buy another dog for ?150 and go on holiday with the rest! They just don't understand do they?! Anyway, still looking out for Scraps - have you had any news at all? xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I never cease to be amazed at the kindness of people on this site thank you 410 and rescue mum. My oldest friend is married to the head keeper of swinton estate and she knew scraps very well as he was always with me so all keepers have been looking out for him from the minute he was missing. the children have friends in young farmers so they also have been watching for him. I put posters in all the local quarries as the wagons come from far and wide and have actually had a lot of calls from drivers saying they had seen a dog like him all false alarms sadly but the important thing is that people are still looking and have been so kind. I do a poster run on sundays so look out for new inventive places! I hope all our much loved dogs are being loved by someone else until we get them home, which we WILL stay positive I know its not easy but it will be worth it in the end and with all the support we get from all at doglost how can we not believe?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Deborah,(Scrapsmum) I would like to thank you for your concern about my choc Lab Nell and your postering efforts for her locally, it's extremely kind especially when your own dog Scraps is still missing. I did see your own poster for Scraps when I called in the newsagent opposite the Co-op in Masham in late July and I have also noticed them in strategic places since, I work most of the arable farmland from Masham through Middleham Catterick Richmond Yarm Northallerton Thirsk Ripon and Bedale. Most days I drive from home over Dallowgill to Masham and then to a specific area, I assure you, from the first day I saw your poster,I have had one eye out for Scraps. I presume the Swinton estate keepers / beaters will know - do you communicate with them? I do know this part of North Yorkshire better than most and if I can be of any 'physical' help please give me call anytime. John. 07702012700Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I go to a clay pigeon club just outside Thirsk every Saturday and it attracts people from all over the North Yorks area. I will put up a poster in the clubhouse and the 4x4 place next door in case anyone has seen Scraps. On the way there I pass Skeldale Vets and a pet shop just around the corner - will off a poster of Scraps at both places, and also leave posters for Cleo (YO7) too. Good luck xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Thanks for your message. Scraps has been missing 15 weeks today it feels like forever! Can you remember I said we had come home one day and found an air ambulance in our field? and we had given them a poster. well they were filming for a series on the yorkshire air ambulance and it will be on next monday at 7.30pm on bbc 1. I am sure you wont see a lot but it might give you an idea of how rural our area is and how many people go to Druids Wood, the tourist attraction we are so close to. I am convinced that someone who was visiting there just picked him up and I pray every night he will just get out and be picked up and scanned. Sounds simple doesn't it? fingers crossed we hear something SOON xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If it is half term where you live and there are any activities going on or car boot sales you could get the children involved with the postering again. HELP I have had a call to say that a dog matching Scraps's description is in a rescue kennels near darlington, been there about a month apparently. I need help as I cant find the telephone number or address! All I know is they are called Kayhills Animal Sanctuary and are on the A68 between Darlington and West Auckland and that the RSPCA take animals there. I know that the chances of it being my baby dog are low but its the first call for MONTHS now and its driving me mad not being able to track them down!!! Been and done the usual sunday poster run today but much further afield this time. It is so depressing how many missing dog posters there are everywhere and nearly all small dogs I have counted at least 9 terrier and terrier cross missing posters within the area that counts as HG4. I have spoken to the dog warden about our posters being taken down within a certain area and she says the council would not have taken them down and she will keep an eye out for us. Anything is worth a try I am getting VERY desperate now He has been gone for so long! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Deb it is a pain when the good work of postering is being hampered by them being taken down. It could be someone who knows where Scraps is but it is also worth checking if it is not the local council. Hope it is not the latter. You are doing brilliant and eventually your perseverance will pay off. Thanks for helping with the postering and looking for other dogs on DL. Jan xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have noticed over the last few days a lot of posters locally have been removed and I then they are taking down the replacement ones I put up please stop taking them down we want Scraps home whatever it takes and I will keep putting more up. If the person taking them down has something to hide or knows anything of Scraps whereabouts then beware I will find you I have people watching to see who takes them down. It's good to hear that you have some extra money to spend on helping to get Scraps back home. It's so much better if you can get the posters laminated. When putting them up on trees, use at least 6 LARGE drawing pins to stop them flapping in the wind and it also deters kids from ripping them down as they walk past (always a problem round our way). I find that 6 drawing work well but sometimes use as many as 10! I've even been known to take along a small hammer to make sure they are really secure. I really hope that you will receive the phone call you have been waiting for very soon - hopefully this weekend. Just plaster the place in posters - you really can't have too many. Good Luck!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i have just spoken to a lady who has just had her two terriers taken from her back garden in the last few days very near me ( both on doglost today) and this lady tells me that including hers and Scraps that there has now been at least 7 terriers gone missing in this area over the last few weeks!! What does this mean? We are going to see if we can get local papers to do an article as so many in such an isolated spot MUST be significant?? Anyone have any ideas? Surely this cant be a coincidence?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Deb check with the insurance if they will cover the costs of ink cartridges and laminating pouches it is still costs encored in advertising for Scraps. Even when you get Scraps and payout a reward you may need something in writing from the finder. Jan xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Everyone thanks for all your great ideas! we have so far been printing the posters off at home and we bought a laminator so the posters dont get wet but it expensive in ink cartridges and laminating pouches. The insurance company do want receipts but say they are happy to pay direct if need be. Also this ?500 does not include the reward that is a totally seperate amount, all good really. Still it was not an easy thing to deal with as they tell you very matter of factly that after a certain amount of time I can claim his value as they consider him permantely lost!!! Well the day that I accept that will NEVER come so onwards and upwards and all that! thanks again keep the ideas coming Debs xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks CJ. Deb I deliver the free local paper for my area and every week have leaflets to go with it, if there is one in your area they may do the same. If you could find the actual delivery person maybe worth asking them and give them something but the insurance company will most probably want receipts, so make sure you get them. Is the reward included in this ?500? Jan xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I would suggest thinking about an advert in a local paper. think about which one seems to be the most popular- even ask at a newsagent. if you have one of the free type papers that are put through lots of doors then contact them as will cover a large amount of readers. Look at prices for an advert- go for the biggest you can get in budget- with a photo. make sure MISSING is put in large letters. details keep brief and make sure there is a contact number. it might be worth approaching a printers for lots of posters- they may even give you a good deal if you tell them the story- say they can add at the VERY bottom - printed by***** in return for a free or reduced price. need loads of A4 plus gets some smaller flyers done to hand out. printing is not too bad- best get quotes then use the ?500 to best advantage. Hhave you checked how it works- do you claim money back after you have paid out or do they pay up front. best of luck and hopefully this brings a positive result. CJLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The schools are opening soon for the Autumn term. Perhaps posters with a carefully worded letter would capture the children's imagination, something like how you are missing scraps and are sure he is missing you and could they help to make a little dog very happy. Children are very good at spreading the word aroundLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Debs this is brilliant for you. The printing of posters runs to a lot of money and putting a lost and found add in the paper with a picture is not cheap either. I would try and find a private leaflet distributor and see how much it would cost to do door to door delivery etc of small posters. Keelah or other helpers may have other ideas. How are you getting the posters printed? Jan xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Try scenting the new area, and if you are walking, try humming or squeaking a favourite toy, very quietly, but never loudly, and never calling him. He may pick up on your sounds if he is in the area. One thing is for sure, if he has found food around those parts before, then he will be back. You could also try finding a safe and secluded place to leave a little food, and an old blanket with your scent. Also don't forget to poster the area. Good luck, but do go gently, gently, catch a monkey. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Everyone, pc all fixed now so I dont feel so cut off! We had another sighting last night a little closer to home but the odd thing is its a long way from the last sighting so I am very confused, however this was a very late last night from a lovely lady whose baby would not sleep so she put it in the car and went for a drive and saw Scraps and rang us straight away as she drove past a poster. We went down but it was too dark to see anything so will go back down as soon as I get away from work please please please let us find him he is really getting around! Will let you know asap Debs xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still thinking of you Scrapsmum and willing the little tinker to come home, enough is enough ! If he is with someone else I feel sure his chip will come to light one day soon. Just keep going with your search and I am sure that day will come We are all behind you though you cannot see us!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have been down to the Rec every day and walked our other terrier but no sign of anything at all. There are rubbish bags left by tourists and they have not been touched so he has either moved on or been picked up. It is very busy down there with lots of visitors and is surrounded by houses but no one seems to have seen a thing. I am fairly certain that this was him as the man seemed very reliable and he described Scraps behavior towards his own dog and it was exactly how Scraps would have behaved! So we will carry on with the posters and desperately trying to get his photo into local papers. I have very limited access to internet at the minute as my pc is not very well but I will keep you all informed if I hear or see anything. The place he was spotted is Masham recreation ground and the postcode is hg4 same as mine and is roughly 4 miles away from home as the crow flies xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I just wonder have you thought of taking something that Scraps would associate with home like bedding or clothes plus food and hiding them near the place where Scraps was reported seen just in case he is in the area. this may keep him nearby and then you could start to lay a scent trail towards home (I don't know how near your home this place is). There is some very good advice on Doglost about scent trailing (admin would help). This has worked with other dogsLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi everyone, sorry not answered sooner but had technical problems ( I am better with dogs than computers!) I have been looking for the last couple of days following the public footpath where he was possibly spotted but nothing. I have done all the kennels and dog wardens and police again and let them know of a possible sighting, so just back to waiting and hoping someone will see and let me know we have told everyone to please ring us immediatley day or night! Scraps is a min pin crossed with a jack russell and we have also had people tell us he looks like a manchester terrier so I am just telling everyone we speak to that the main thing to look for is his very docked tail as I have never seen another so short. we have been round all local pubs and they have mostly all put posters up and I have just come back from Richmond horse trials, kids put little posters on windscreens and we put the big ones on all the trade stands and the secretaries tent. We will never give up till our baby dog is home but we are so very very grateful to all of you for your kind thoughts and words of support hurry home baby we miss you xxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Are we sure that Scraps isn't a pedigree Min Pin???????? If no-one is sure, then maybe he is. People who deal with dogs daily will know that and he may be some kennels looking for a new home having been picked up straying. Just a thought. I looked at the photo and said Min Pin and so might others. Especially as he has a docked tail a liiks like a tiny Dobe.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I'm also hoping that this sighting turns out to be your Scraps. What a little sweetie. Good to hear that he has been chipped and tagged. You may have already done it, but have you postered at any nearby (and further afield) pubs and restaurants? Don't know your way at all, apart from the area around Bainbridge/Aysgarth/Askrigg where we stayed on a lovely holiday with our dogs many years ago. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this weekend will bring the news you have been waiting for. We are all rooting for you on DogLost site and so just carry on doing what you have been doing!!! Oh Scrapsmum I do hope this lead turns out to be positive. I really wish I was near you and could come and help you. I have a definite feeling that scraps is still in the area and that he must be seen soon. Keep on doing everything you can think of to keep him in everyone's minds and above all remember that Terriers are very strong little dogs and very able to look after themselves when the need arisesLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

we have had a POSSIBLE sighting!!!! I was out putting posters out tonight and someone who pulled out behind me flashed my car down to say he was sure he had seen the dog on the poster when walking his dog this morning on Masham recreation ground. I went down there straight away and spent a couple of hours walking and shouting but no sign, I have put posters up all over down there and asked the man who stopped me to ring me at anytime if he spots him again. I know it might not be Scraps but its the closest I have come.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have you managed to establish which rescue centres take dogs that are picked up and handed into the police or dog wardens in your area? I have been trying to find out on the internet without much success. I am also regularly checking all the lost and found sites I can find each day. The other thing I thought of is Parish Council noticeboards but I expect you have already thought of those. It is worth bearing in mind that dogs are not always taken to the nearest rescue centre (if they are full) so cover as wide an area as possible and check them regularly in person if at all possible. I am willing Scraps to come home - I know what you are going through. Can you think of anywhere you could target hikers and walkers etc. i.e. tourist information centres and hostels, campsites that have not already been contacted. Obviously you are in a very rural area so those are the sort of people most likely to spot a loose dog, also anywhere a lot of people would visit. I am not familiar with that area at all but if I could help with emailing I am happy to search the internet to find places that have not already been done. It doesn't appear from the map that you have any towns very nearby. Do you have a lot of tourists visiting your area? Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Come on Scraps, the joke is over and its time to come home!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Debs, have a look on the internet and see what is going on in your area, and not too far away that you can get to, and hand out your leafletts. He could have been picked up by a holiday maker that does not live too far away, but just came near you for a day out. Anywhere where there are meetings. Put leaflets on cars in car parks - boot sales, church services, supermarkets, sports centres, dog shows, farm animal shows, horse shows, race meetings, and when the schools go back, inform all of those. Are you getting a list now ? xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I wonder if you have any scout,cub/guide and brownie groups near you that you could poster. Children who join these are usually eager types and could spread the word among all their friends. As the schools are closed it is a way of getting young people involved and the encouragement of a small reward is often a good enticement to the younger generationLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We are busy today putting posters in nearby towns that we have not done so far, I keep ringing the dog wardens etc and have now been asked by the police to stop ringing them as they have the details and will let me know if they hear anything! Had some ramblers past the house the other day asking if we had any news as all the ramblers have been talking about him and all the posters so that is good. Hi scrapsmum. Any new developements today? Are you still postering the area where the posters are being taken down, and some new places? Why not have a look on some of the other dogs pages in order to get some more ideas. Look in the local paper for events in the area, and hand out your small posters. Every new person you tell, knows at least ten others. Just keep spreading the word until you hear something. Come on Scraps, show yourself little one xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scrapsmum, come on, you know you can't give up hope. There will be times when you feel like this, but so many people know about him now, the publicity has been first rate, and so many people are on the look out. I thought the same when I saw the new photograph, he looks rather like a jack russell. Perhaps another call to the rescue centres is due. Even the police could have logged him down as Jack Russell. We will not stop looking for him, and don't forget, he has been chipped, which is the best ID of all. If someone has him, the posters will eventually flush him out, because he will be seen. Just keep on puting them up in new places, and replacing the ones that come down. Sending you positive thoughts xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We had a call last night to say that someone knew of someone who had found a little dog/ terrier just across the valley from us, so we went to knock on the door and of course it was not my boy. the thing is the lady, a lovely lady, who found this little irish terrier, really cute puppy about 5 months old, had just put it in a kennel outside her house mentioned it to her neighbours and that was it! She did not inform the police or the dog warden and had never even heard of microchipping even though she had 3 dogs of her own!! I advised her to take it to her vet and get it scanned so hopefully it is now on its way home. With this kind of ignorance albiet with every kindness is it any wonder so many dogs never get found.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Deb if he's been picked up by holiday makers they may be going back at weekend. See if you can beg local radio to put out an appeal for the person in a black car seen picking up a small black dog on Sunday, every day, for as many days as they can. This is a matter of urgency now. It could be innocent of course, and they may have been exercising their own dog xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have sent another photo to admin@doglost that shows his whole body and his markings better as I agree with you he does not prick his ears up if he is worried. he is a lovely boy but can be nervous of strangers Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It's going to be important you keep ringing all police stations in area and shelters and pounds etc every single day then, in case they do eventually hand him in. Be aware that he may be described as a different breed, or different colouring etc. If anything sounds similar visit in person. Is he a very friendly dog who would go to anyone? I wonder if he has been down a hole, and has managed to get out. If someone has seen him covered in mud, and in a state, they may have wrongly assumed he is homeless. May be worth targeting the camp sites again now you have the small posters. Thinking of you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yasa You are right we live in the middle of nowhere! Druids is like a VERY small stonehenge and attracts thousands of people god knows why! We have checked with all gamekeepers who are very active at this time of year as Grouse season approaches and also all the farmers anywhere near and far. he is not very big at all possibly only 12" at shoulder he does love chasing rabbits and could be down a hole but I am sure with the huge amount of ramblers/keepers/dogwalkers/farmers around someone would have seen or heard something by now. Last night had a call from someone who says they THINK they saw someone stop a car and pick up a little black dog on Sunday but cant be sure? it was at the top of the hill opposite our house. Deborah I have just looked at Ilton on Google Earth. There is nothing there! Where on earth has he gone? Druids wood doesn't even look very big. Tell me, what is the tourist attraction all about in Druids wood, and why would people go there ? He can't be shut in a barn or farm building can he? Nobody's gone on holiday have they, and the place is all locked up? No wells, or traps or badger holes about? It just seems incredible. How tall is he to the shoulder? Were there any tradesmen, or delivery people about that morning, can you remember? It just seems so daft. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yasa Yes Scraps is microchipped. We do live in a very isolated area although we live right next to a very popular tourist spot called Druids Wood. First thing in the morning all dogs go out, we live in the middle of nowhere on top of a hill and all the dogs came straight back in as usual and Scraps did not. I have been to Council kennels for all local councils and spoke to ripon, richmond, bedale and leyburn police. spoke to Gerry Green rescue, blue cross and local boarding kennels, pet shops etc. we have now put up 120 posters chip shops, auction marts, local shops, pubs, caravan parks, post office sorting offices, vets, doctors, garages/ petrol stations and more than I can remember. We have also spent all weekend knocking on every farm door in the area and there are hundreds and posting posters through letterboxes in case he has got stuck somewhere. I have put ads in all local papers and have asked for a mention on the local radio. I continue to be grateful to dog lost for all the moral support you are amazing thank you deborah & scrapsLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scraps mum? Can you tell us which shelters, pounds, rescue centres you have been in touch with please? Police, etc? Also can you confirm that he is microchipped? Also what actually happened when he went missing on the walk? It's quite a remote area looking on the map. Could he be stuck somewhere, in a hole, or fallen into water? Is it an area of dogwalkers, or very remote? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Keep up the postering Deborah, and pestering the police. Also re-visit the rescues, and shelters in the area. Ring your local papers and free handouts, and ask for news desk. Try and get a mention on local radio. Go to all dog walking areas, pubs, clubs, and hand out smaller reduced down posters which you can get done at printers. Speak to everyone you see, and poster, poster, poster. Someone may have taken him in, and you need to make him too hot to handle. Hope you get some good news soon x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We had a false alarm today and the dog warden informed us they had a black and tan terrier in kennels I drove through (very fast) and it was an elderly bitch so if anyone knows of a missing one? she was picked up in Ripon. I have now put posters everywhere and in our and our friends cars. Miss him more everyday stay safe my baby till we get you home xxxxxxxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Scrap well. Stay safe Scrap, until we find you x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Isn't this the same area as the one where Murphy (Patterdale Terrier) HG3 also went missing on his walk? May be worth getting together with his owners. They believed he may have been taken. Do hope Scrap is home soon. Keep safe Scrap. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
