Chase's owner is in the newspaper making an emotional plea to find his dog 30th August'16

A frail widower has made an emotional plea to be reunited with his pet dog after receiving cruel messages that the whereabouts of the dog is known and won't be returned.

Desperate Paul Riley, 70, is heartbroken without black Labrador Chase who vanished from a field behind Cox Hill Farm, Chacewater, six weeks ago.

Since the death of his wife Patricia in May Chase has become his only companion and "lifeline".

Jenny4 know the Facebook page....have been communicating with Tamsin. I also shared Chase on Paw....but have not changed anything in there as we still do not know what the real outcome is, ie whether he has passed or is still missing. But thank you for the link, but I am already on it. X
AlisonH
I have read through most of the comments and would politely ask that you all stop discussing the family and concentrate on getting Chase back to them. No matter what anyone thinks Chase belongs to Tamsin and her father and nobody has the right to keep him.
If this continues I will delete the comments.
DogLostOwl
They are not my co-ordinators, I am simply a team member without any particular area. If you have concerns about Doglost please email them to admin as this page is not the place to discuss them.

Doglover please understand all we know is what is on the public page for you to read on facebook....it is specutaions from others not us .We too want Chase home more than anything this is the page. There are several but you will get the drift ....https://www.facebook.com/groups/272546836440665/Last edited: 2016-08-09 09:58:57
Doglover
Owl ......then speak to your co-ordinators they are the ones that have brought up family. That is all I am going to say. CHASE IS my main concern and has been from the beginning and always will be......
Unknown
Doglover I know less than you do most probably, but am going through all the posts on facebook and here, and my statement was based on what I have read, not even sure if its facts. This is not some mystery where you have to guess what is going on.None of us are hiding anything .we are just concerned for Chase and his family.from what I read Tamsin's Father is very frail that is all I know .And some where concerned for the dog's welfare.whether that is true or not its not for me to judge.I was mearly pointing out a way out of this which would have a happy ending for all. Please lets not go round in circles nit picking at each other we all want a happy ending here
DogLostOwl
This page is here to locate Chase, not to discuss his family situation. We do not want to cause any more distress to people who are already grieving. So although we are all concerned, please can we keep this is mind? Thank you.Last edited: 2016-08-09 10:14:23 by Owl

Yes welfare should have been addressed and yes Tamsin and her Father do not need this at this very sad time, but I have just looked in your profile page in Facebook and your mobile number is nowhere to be found.?????
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
My Facebook name used to be Poochpal South West Co-ordinator till Facebook wanted proof that it was my real name. My profile then changed to a page and I had to set up a new account in my real name.
None of the speculation is helping, the facts are that Chase is still missing, Tamsin and her father are still grieving the loss of their mother/wife and now having to deal with this nightmare.
If anyone was concerned re welfare then this should have been addressed in the correct way, not by liberating Chase and then leading owners to believe he had died.
Doglover
The only mystery Poochpal is who would know your Facebook profile......as Poochpal is not your name....,,,and the person who has Chase certainly would not know your real name....would they. I just pray that Chase is ok and this is not a hoax call . Jenny4 you obviously know more than we do, but why would the person who has him be concerned for his welfare and you want to make sure he will live with Tamsin and not her Father ???????
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
I agree whole heartedly with everything you have said Jenny4.
Jenny Tigga, my number is on my Facebook profile and as I have been with Doglost for so many years many people already have it. No mystery there.
Unknown
I have a feeling the person who has Chase , if they have him, has so because they are concerned for his welfare.I like most, dont understand the ins and outs of this. But if they are genuine then maybe they can contact Tamsin again and things can be sorted.Maybe if she can guarantee Chase will be living with her it may change the outlook.I dont know , but the only thing I am sure of with everybody getting angry , which is understandable, nothing will be resolved. The finder will hopefully get in touch again and see that Chase is a last link to her late Mother and realise that she needs to have that closure to have her pet back. Please whoever has him just see the pain that is going on here.I do understand you must be a wonderful animal lover and am sure this was not done lightheartedly , but clearly there needs to be a way around this .Could you see it in your heart to talk to Tamsin again ?She has lost so much it is truely heartbreaking. If you are happy with an agreement you can leave Chase with a vet no questions asked. He will be missing his owner too, while they dont show it Dogs do suffer.I hope you can look into your heart and feel compassion.
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
My question is - who will have had Poochpals phone number? It would not have been on the collar and I don't think it was on the posters .
Doglover
I rang and spoke to Tamsin,s father in the landline number. He feels that Chase was run over and is hidden in bushes....I have relayed this information to Tamsin, but she said her father gets confused. Poochpal...is the person that is phoning asking for money???? Otherwise what reason would someone want with an 11 year old dog......
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Not at the moment Onestopalldogs, I hope everyone will give the caller time to either call again or call owner direct.
Sue - onestopalldogs
Admin, do you want me to put Chase back out there as lost?
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
I have spoken to Tamsin this evening as I too had an anonymous call saying that Chase is safe and well. We discussed the call and believe it to be genuine, I would like whoever called me to call Tamsin on the above number, she deserves to know the truth to then be able to move forward. Tamsin has recently lost her mother, her father has lost his wife, they need to know that Chase is safe and well if that is the case, if not then they need proof of his passing.
Baydogs
Does Tamsin's dad have caller display that could be checked back for a number Max?
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
I have spoken to Tamsin (daughter of owner of Chase) & she was told he was involved in an RTA. However his body has not been found. There was a phone call by someone to say they had found a dog fitting his decription & described collar. When someone attended the location, the people had gone & so had the dog, only the collar was there.
Tamsin has made enquiries with vets/street cleansing etc & no dog has been recovered.
It is thought someone has him somewhere.

Crossposted-Tamsin Riley's comment-
"Possibly a sighting of chase at twelve heads tonite at about 7.30 crossing over the bridge.. Young girl rang dad about 7.40 to say she had seen the poster and it could be him but was not close enough to see if he had collar on or the scar he has.. I know from local people that there is a few black labs that live down there so could be something or nothing but if she sees him again she's going to try and catch him"
Tiana
Any new sightings? Believe local fire rescue in area yesterday doing a brilliant job reuniting 'Indie' so hopefully the publicity from that with the video on BBC website may trigger more volunteers to help find Chase?
Baydogs
Apologies beforehand because this has possibly already been explored but I cannot see it mentioned under comments anywhere-
When I look at the map I think I see a pond in someone's garden in the area he went missing from. If it is a pond, has it been checked?
As I said, probably already done.
Doglover
Am following Chase on Facebook and on his own page. It was suggested that a feeding station and trap be set up, but before a feeding station is set up, positive sightings need to have been seen. Of course once sightings are definitely Chase, then feeding station. I have also suggested scenting, with either late owner,s clothes nand or some of Chase,s blanket, toys.
Baydogs
So it is uncertain whether this was a firm sighting or not...Does the owner think that Chase (at 11years old) would jump over a hedge?
Where would the residents of this area socialise? Fox and Hounds at Scorrier? Any other pubs or restaurants that could do with a poster?
When I was looking at the map I saw Four Burrow Hunt Kennels. Are they aware?
Anywhere to BBQ at dawn/dusk that wouldn't be trespassing?
Anywhere a feeding station could be set up (again not trespassing - or with permission) along with cameras? A firm sighting would be so useful!
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
I spoke to Julia one of the volunteers who went down to the area. She had a search around Scorrier house estate where there are quite a few houses too. She spoke to someone who said they had a thin black Lab, but it was unlikely to have been theirs wandering off, but someone else in area had one too!
Hard to know really, but more posters are needed there, to be posted rather than put up, as is a private estate.
Baydogs
I'd like to think Chase was found tonight - someone is there looking now.
If he isn't, I wonder if the new owners of that property would be agreeable to setting up a feeding station? If Chase is skinny, he is hungry.
Baydogs
Hopeful news! I see that someone has put up a postcode for that area Max.
Crossposted-
Lesley Andrew "I think its Zimapan, its a house on the road towards Scorrier, near Tregullow. Was for sale recently and the ad gives TR16 5AY as the postcode x"

Someone out riding a horse this morning saw a thin Labrador, in an area where there was a previous possible sighting, hoping it is Chase. Here is the info....for those of you who don't know the area very well, take the B3298 from Scorrier towards St Day/Carharrack. On right hand side opposite Killifreth Farm is a pull in with a lane with boulders across. Go up the lane, ahead of you is a tunnel. The lab was seen coming towards the tunnel but then jumped up the hedge on the left hand side. Hope this helps xxx

Thanks Baydogs, will do that.

What about sharing to this Cornish group? Their own dog Bryn the Blind Dog went missing earlier this year.Home again about a week later but they kept the group going to support rescue dogs and other missing dogs. Lovely people.

Hoping Chase stays safe until we can find him. Very hard area to search as so rural, so the more posters the better to engage locals. Fingers crossed for new sighting soon.Last edited: 2016-07-28 15:14:32 by Tiana

Another thought;
I read that Chase was very close to his lady owner who sadly died suddenly and it is felt that Chase may have gone off looking for her....were there any favourite walks that they did together? Favoured places that they visited? If so, maybe he has gone to look for her there?
Baydogs
Thanks for the update Max. What I am going to suggest has probably been thought of already but did any of the nearby industrial buildings close down for a summer break when Chase went missing? It's just that Oldies tend not to go far and I was wondering if he had been shut into one of them by accident?
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
Have emailed the local scout leader, for the site at Tomperrow, which isn't too far away, to see if they could assist on their travels with posters etc, as it seems to be fully booked for the summer.
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
There have been no positive sightings of Chase since he went missing. The 2 sightings ( which were in opposite directions ) are not confirmed to have been Chase.( One was at crossroads on Bissoe road, dog seen heading towards Twelveheads, seems that could be a local wanderer).
I have been out postering with another volunteer, the area is vast countryside with little villages/hamlets dotted around. It is a mining area, although it is thought most ( if not all) the mines are capped.
There are some woods near to where he went missing, with mine workings, most are fenced. People have been searching when out riding & walking.

I have left a message for the 'West Briton' local newspaper, to see if they would be interested in doing a story on Chase, awaiting a call back.

From CHASE's dedicated Facebook page Please Find Our Chase #findchase (https://www.facebook.com/groups/272546836440665/?fref=ts):

**** UPDATE****
There has been a sighting of a big black dog running around the St Day crossroads. If anyone lives down that way, or knows anyone who lives down that way, from there to St Day/Carharrack if you could please be vigil and keep a look out, that would be fab!

Initial search of the area this morning has drawn a blank but as this is close to the area where CHASE went missing there is a good chance this sighting could be him.

Further search is planned for later and details left with local farm.

Further drone footage from Mark Thomas (part 3 of 4):

Chase is an elderly dog (11 years old) who has recently had an operation. It is thought he may be depressed as his lady owner has recently died & her husband says the dog was very attached to her.
The area is fairly rural & there have been lots of posters put up in the area & surrounding areas.
Today, Mark Thomas ( our drone helper) did a search of the area to try & highlight any further areas for search on foot.

Sorry to see that CHASE is missing.
  • If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
  • Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
  • A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (102523)
  • Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
  • You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
  • Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
  • DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
