Wonderful news! :-) Hope beautiful Martha is ok & owner will recover well now shes back x

Cows are fine , Bulls are mostly fine BUT Mummy Cows & their Calves + Dog on a lead maybe not ! 9 times out of ten fine but sometimes they just want to investigate usualy the Dog, guess its an inate thing, regarding perceived predators .
Poor owner thought he was doing the right thing by keeping Martha on a lead but it just wasnt his day :(Last edited: 2016-08-22 15:44:37 by Reynard

Martha was found with her lead still on, indicating she had not gone far. She was hungry but is now sitting with her injured owner on the sofa after some food. He is so so happy and thinks he will recover much more quickly now!

***possible sighting of Martha***
A lady has said this yesterday...........

This is the first time I have seen a photo of Martha and don't want to get anyone's hopes up if I am wrong but think I have seen her. About 7.30am was down on the batts and on the other side of river under bridge was a very sad looking dog having a drink from the river

The Batts are where Richmond Live is held

If ur over there please keep an eye out, don't chase her. Just sit and calmly say her name, she's extremely timid xXx"

good luck everyone xx

***Sunday search for Martha***
If anyone wants to join in tomorrow's search of the area she went missing please let me know, u can meet at 8:45 at Tesco petrol station or 9am at the Hurgill Road car park by the racecourse, also a 'dark, wire haired terrier' was seen looking lost near The Hilyard Pub which is on the coast to coast path so a good possibility it could have been her, I'll be heading there tomorrow afternoon if anyone fancies it, all help is greatly appreciated***

I wonder if they could assist with a thermal imaging camera???

I wonder if the Farmer would consider moving the cattle so a good search of the field can be done?Personally being brought up on a farm I would not enter a field at all with a bull and calves so would not suggest anyone go in

Good luck i hope you find Martha x

NAME OF LOCATION AMENDED CAPTAIN...Thank you x

Thank you nicolapicola - that is very helpful. There will be some organised searches taking place from this afternoon in the area.
If anyone is out looking can I point out that the field with the cows that trampled the owner also consists of a bull and calves so please do not walk through this field with a dog on lead. It is a public footpath but apparently there are no warning signs on the footpath at the gates into the field. We are following this up with the local police and the owner/farmer and we are also trying to arrange a 'safe' search of this field which is quite large and undulating. Until
Martha is 12 years old and the lead is still attached. Last edited: 2016-08-19 12:10:39 by Jenny & Tiga k9tracker

I don't "do" Facebook but I found this description of a walking trail and I think the relevant bit is in para 2 (the link is http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/activity-adventure/activity-holidays/have-a-swale-of-a-time-walking-in-the-yorkshires-dales-983586.html:
"Cross the road and go up the steps to the tourist office and enter Friary Garden. Pass through the gardens with the remains of the 13th-century Franciscan friary on your left, and leave via the far right-hand gate by the well. Continue across the roundabout and Quakers Lane to climb the steps to a snicket (a narrow pedestrian way). Continue uphill to emerge at Green Howards Road. Below you can see Richmond Castle. Turn left for around 20 yards, cross the road and go through a narrow stile in the drystone wall.

Head half-left across the field, picking up the waymarkers as you cross two fields, before arriving at the old racecourse, now a public common. To the east, the view extends to the North Yorkshire Moors. Turn left and head west for three-quarters of a mile towards a large ruined grandstand. From the grandstand head north, following the clear track through a gap in the wall and walk through a small plantation and through a gate. Bear left and, with the wall on the left, follow the waymarked footpath up and then down into the Coalsgarth Valley.

From Martha's FB group -'Can I make a big plea to anyone that can help to trace the kind person that took the owner to the police station and on to hospital. We are keen to find out where exactly the owner was picked up roadside.
The person we believe was only visiting the area to do some mountain biking'.
Captain
ADMIN - this comment has been made in the Northern Echo regarding their article in relation to the area where Martha was lost:
"Holgate Rambler 9:18pm Tue 16 Aug 16
For those who want to seek it out - it is actually Coalsgarth not Coles Garth. It will be known to locals and although I live in York I walked there myself in 2009 when it featured in one of George Wilkinson's Country Walks in The Press. I remember walking through a long field where there were indeed a number of cows. Happily I survived unscathed but I did feel uneasy even though I didn't have a dog with me. It seemed to me that there was no obvious way of avoiding this field other than doing another walk entirely. All sympathy to this gentleman."
http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/local/northyorkshire/14685014.Elderly_man_trampled_by_cows_needs_help_finding_lost_dog/
Is it possible to amend name of location where lost to avoid confusion?

Is somebody checking alternative routes around the cow field? Could it be possible that Martha is trying to get home but sensibly doesn't want to go back on the footpath?
