Its now over 5 years since my beautiful Pippin went missing, just to let you know Pip that Mummy still thinks about you constantly and will always look for you. But I hope that you are happy and warm where you are and hopefully loved nearly as much as I loved you. I was there when you were born and I really tried to protect you, I'm sorry if I let you down. Take care my little one and think of us sometimes. XX

Thank you Yasa and Greylady it is comforting to know that Pippin has not been forgotten.  I still think about him constantly, thinking back to last year and what I was doing.  I just hope that whoever has got him is looking after him OK and that he is loved, but I shall keep on searching.  Don't worry Pip mums still looking xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello Audrey. I was going to contact you and let you know I had put him forward for the Countrymans again, so really pleased you are still checking on here. No he's not been in yet. Should be 17th July, unless the articles are running late, and then it will be the next week, or week after that, but he is on their list. Please let us know if he doesn't go in. You may need to email admin@doglost.co.uk at the moment as no PM system up and running just yet. Good luck to you. I know how much he means to you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thankyou Doglost for reinstating Pippin, I was devastated when I couldn't find him on the new website, as I really dont want him forgotten, even though it is nearly a year since he went missing, but I suppose it is the same for everyone, no matter how long it is you never stop looking, even when abroad you still find yourself looking at everyones dog, even though when you are 9 hours flight away it would seem a bit irrational.  Unfortunately I  have not had Countrymans Weekly for the last few weeks (I usually get it every week), has Pip been in yet?  Once again thanks for keeping him there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Your new companion looks full of fun and very pretty. She will be good comany for Pippin when he's back. It's great that so many people took you posters. When Ellie was missing we went to Lurcher meets. The people there will take leaflets and offer as much help as much as they can. there are usually a few Dog charities there that re-home stray dogs too and they are pleased to see your posters. Also when we were putting leaflets out, we were stopped by a lady how delivered pet food to peoples homes. She asked for a leaflet and said she would copy it and hand it out. I don't know if there is anyone like that around you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

audrey, I am over the moon that you have taken the lurcher puppy in and given her a home, which we are sure is a home made in heaven. I gather that she did not belong to the person who you thought may have been her owner when we spoke about her on the found pages. Glad to see you have been to the carboot sales, makes you feel a lot better that the word is getting spread. Keep up the good work. Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The people that had her before us called her Daphne (after a dog on Scooby Doo), so David said we should keep some continuity in her life so Daphne it is and she is certainly gangly, when she runs with the lurchers they beat the spots of her and she cannot corner very well!!! and the brakes are not too good yet either!! but the teeth work well at tearing things up, but thats puppies and she certainly has character.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ohhh Audrey, what a lovely kind person you are. I've just looked at the picture or your baby. She's so sweet, and looks so gangly with those long legs. And what an unusual sort of colour. I hope you have a lifetime of fun with her, and that Pippin will soon be back to play with her. If it all works out, and you get to keep her, what are you calling her? Thanks for that Yorkielass, but not Pip. The leaflet at the car boot went well on sunday, gave a leaflet to a lurcher man from the other side of Leeds who advised me to do all the shows starting in March, he also took a few posters and said he would print some more and distribute those around for me. Last night I had a phonecall from a lady who wanted to remain anonymous but got a poster from the car boot, she told me about a lurcher in a back yard of a house where the owner was allegedly gypsy, he had not had the dog long and it looked like Pip, my husband went looking today and managed to see the dog through the fencing, but this was not Pip, but at least it was another possible and we just need another call where the dog is Pip and it did prove that the postering does have some effect. On the plus side we have taken in the Lurcher from LS25 on Dogs Found. she was found tied to a lamp post in a pub car park. She is about 3 mths old, very large and very puppyish, which is probably why she was tied to that lamp post, but we think she has so far in her short life had about 5 homes and she is still very loving and trusting. So if no one comes for her she will have a loving home here with us with the other dogs, horses, cats, cows and lots of land to run around in. She will never replace Pip and when Pip comes home she will be an added bonus, but at the moment I feel that some good has come out of the bad. All the normal channels have been contacted about her, RSPCA, Dogs Trust, Police, vets etc. I would hate to think that someone is missing their pet like we are missing Pip, not quite sure when to say she's ours and get her chipped etc. Has anyone got any ideas on this? We are hopefully doing another car boot this weekend.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

audrey, great that you have now got your internet sorted and can now be more pro-active and step up your search for Pippin. Hope the smaller posters help spreading the word of Pippin and the car boot sales are an ideal place to go to. Ask any food vans where people tend to que and read posters if they will display a large one, sometimes they may not be willing to display a large one but are happy for smaller ones. Put the posters in plastic wallets to protect them, especially if they are inclined to get wet. Some sellers at car boots do go to more than one site, ask it they can display a poster wherever they go. If possible make a list and say you will contact them when you find Pippin and would be grateful if they could keep the poster displayed until then. Good luck at the weekend. Thank you Elliedog. That makes great sence, and you have given very good advice. So many dogs change hands at these events, its just frightening. But also contacting the travellers liasion officer is a must, if there is a large site there. Pippin may have just wandered in there if he had been attracted by any other dogs around, especially if he could smell food. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I have mentioned this before but I have been told that there is a big and permanent travellers camp up there some where it's near the M62/M18 junctions and it seems that there are a few non-residents in the areas in and around Leeds visiting. If it is a premanent one there will be a police officer that works with them. Does he know about pippin? These are the kind of dogs they go for. Also there are a lot of Lurcher shows up in your area, just put lurcher shows Leeds in google. We did and the people there are really nice and will take and put up posters for you. I think the Earth Dog Trials are still on and they are all over. This is Lurchers and Beddlington Terriers shown and raced. Hope he is home soon. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Audrey can you tell us please, how far you have gone out with posters, and who you have contacted in the way of rescue centres, vets, and newspapers etc. I think we have just got to push on. We are getting dogs back after many many weeks by just making them too hot to handle. farm and agricultural shows need attending along with boot fairs and markets. Every single person you make aware, is a bonus. The more eyes the better. Try postering companies that employ a number of staff, who travel in to work from outside. Any trading estates, near you? Sorry, I know you are out in the sticks, but I'm way down country, so have no idea. Places where people get animal feed stuff, that sort of thing. It's probably time to do the newspapers again though. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Yasa, but I really don't know where to Poster now, I really think Pippin must be further afield. the posters that were being taken down are now staying put, think that must have been a prank. We are now hoping that if lampers have him he will be howling in a shed all night, as he is used to sleeping on the settee, and they will get fed up and turn him out, then we might have a chance, we have had no sightings of him at all, and its nearly six weeks now. Now I am walking properly again, (got kicked by a horse) we have starting walking down the sides of the dykes around here, (and there are miles of them) to see if he has been injured by a car and crept into the undergrowth, at least I would then know that he was finally safe at Rainbow Bridge. But I dont think that will be the case, I think someone has him.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi AudreyT. I have just logged on and was looking though again to see who was found and if anyone was close and I noticed Ashmark's comments. It is a point as when we went to pick Ellie up, we decided to pull all the posters because of the area and the prank calls. ALL the posters from the area Ellie was had gone. It strikes me that someone may not want to be spotted too. I REALLY hope he is home soon. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just keep going Audrey. Eventually someone will see him and there will be a poster to hand. If there is not a poster, they will not have your number. Take a look at Scraps page, missing from (HG4) Ilton, N. yorks, who is in much the same position as you, and is just pressing on. She has just had a possible sighting after weeks with nothing, also Poppy from SE9, reunited today. This is amazing, but again, it took that one pair of eyes, and a telephone call. Your turn will come. Come on Pippin, show yourself lad xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Ashmark and Yasa, I would say that Pip is very slightly brindle, but predominately fawn. He has a bit of brindle across his back and down his legs and a thin dark stripe from his muzzle up his stop to the top of his head with slight brindling on his head. I think the posters are being taken down by kids, as this is the area where the kids made the hoax call, but someone has also taken the one down in the Co-Op we have replaced this and so far it has stayed. The calls have stopped coming in now so really don't know what to do now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for your update audreyT. Just because we don't post, doesn't mean we don't call in here for news on Pippin. You have done such a good job with publicity right from the very beginning and still doing everything right. Stay strong, and full steam ahead. I agree with everything Ashmark said in regard to sightings. You cannot afford to not go, as one time it will be Pippin. Also, with the posters being taken down, yes, someone may have him. Replace them and put more up besides. What type of fawn would you say pippin was ? as in his photo, he looks very much like brindle. Good luck and come on Pippin, show yourself little man x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Audrey I would consentrate on the area where the posters keep being taken down. This usually means someone in that area has him and doesn't want to be spotted, in the meantime folow up every sighting because one day it will be Pippin. Good luck with your search.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry not updated for a while, but my computer has broken terminally, but managed to borrow one - unfortunately most of the sightings are of the tan greyhound lurcher and not Pip, I am in contact with this dogs owner but they cannot catch it, they only had it for one day, having got it from Dogs Trust, so it will not go to them. There have been other sightings but there appears to be a few lurchers like Pip around, there are 2 on an estate within 2 miles of here. I have spoken to the Bin men who thought they say him on the Wed morn, but when they saw the poster they said it wasn't Pip, so seem to have been looking in the wrong area. The only definite sighting seems to be about 8pm on the Tues evening he went missing crossing a Pub carpark near the railway line that we think he has run down chasing rabbits. The railway is at the back of our land and he does go on the enbankment chasing rabbits. So he seems to have followed the railway and come out at the pub carpark, the customers said that they saw him running across the carpark with the black collie type dog. The pub is very near to Sherburn in Elmet bypass, so we are now thinking that he could have been picked up on the bypass, I have had a phonecall of a possible sighting at Kellingley Mine, which is on the other side of Brotherton, but again as the Greyhound lurcher is from Brotherton, this could be him, but we are going to look anyway, but the caller said this was late last week. He also told me to look on the Warwick Estate in Brotherton, as alot of lurcher men/lampers live there. The local lurcher people have been great, putting the word around, but nothing yet. We have even had a hoax call from some kids sending us to an address, where the occupant knew nothing about it. Posters are also being taken down, so we keep putting them back up. I have found the local radio, Radio York, Radio Aire and Radio 828 to be very unhelpful, they have apologised but said they could not give Pip a mention, Minster Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, my Lurcher Ellie went missing on 2nd August from Hatfield Water Park, will we were staying there from our home in Derby. I don't know how far away this is from you but I have been told about a Gypsy Camp - I think its a travellers park - somewhere near the M62 and M180 Junction. I was told about this from someone in Hatfield they said they came from Leeds.I used to come up your way via the A1 so I have no barrings on this one what so ever. Thanks Angelita, yes posted Squire's on Wed one of the first places I went to, as a former biker I know how helpful they can be. Unfortunately the sightings are not of Pippin, on my way to the livery yard I got a phonecall saying someone had seen a dog in Fairburn 15 mins earlier, so went straight there and met the lady, then we saw the dog and it is a greyhound or smooth greyhound lurcher, not whippet, it is tan coloured, darker then Pip and it has a brown colour (not a greyhound colour) with a yellow tag and a round brass tag on. It is very timid and my husband and I followed it around Fairburn for about 30 mins before we lost it, but even though I got to within 3 feet of it with food, it still ran away from me. Unfortunately we have not had any sightings around Sherburn, so we will keep posting posters and looking, We will next to the Sherburn Aero Club and see if they can keep an eye out from above also we will now poster out towards Wistow.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Milly's mum - have had another sighting of Pip this morning, again in the Byram Park/Sutton Lane area at the livery yard near Birkin, the people saw a poster in the local feed merchant, I have just come back from searching to get his bowl, some food and one of my socks, also some scenting liquid!, as the owner of the yard said she would put food down to entice him, but we thought we would put his own things there. Hopefully this is Pip and not another dog as the lady in the shop thought, as we have had no sighting at all in our immediate area, despite all the posters. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Your Pippin certainly is a little cutie - what a pretty girl. You are doing absolutely great. We have just recovered a dog in our area after 2 weeks. Like you, we made him the hottest dog in town and in the end, so many people had spread the word to others and knew about him. Whenever I was out and about, people were calling out and asking 'Any news yet'. We had to put Samson Is Home! posters here and there to spread the good news. Just keep up the postering - you really can't put up too many, believe me! I'm keeping my fingers crossed 'this end' that your lovely girl is found very soon and that this weekend will bring the phone call you have been waiting for! Show your face Pippin - your Mum and brother need you back home!!! Good Luck!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you everyone for your help so far - I had a call from the lady at Danewalk kennels yesterday (thank you) who had seen Pippin on this site who said that someone had reported a lurcher type dog in Brotherton/Byram Park area, this is a few miles from our home in a different direction to Sherburn School but we went over and took some posters, called at the village shop and the lady said she knew the dog running around and it wasnt Pippin, we left posters anyway. But last night a man rang who had seen the poster in a pub and he also reported a dog fitting Pip's description on Wed in Byram Park and Thurs morn in Knottingley, he is certain it was Pip. He said on Thurs he seemed to be heading back in the direction of Byram Park/Brotherton and Sherburn. but he could not get him as he was very frightened and timid. We are targeting that area today with Posters. On Wed the binmen who had seen him in Sherburn were then going to Brotherton, could he have followed the bin wagon, that is also roughly the way I have been to work taking Pip with me, could he be trying to get to work? I have done a leaflet in all vets, posted in railway stations and shops and all farmers in fields and also through letter boxes. Our DW comes back on Monday so hopefully I will then be able to find out what kennels Selby Council use. I have been contacting the kennels that West Yorks use - Marina and Springfield. Selby Times are doing an article next week and we are now going to contact the Castleford/Pontefract papers. We have taken our other dogs to the area behind Sherburn School yesterday afternoon but no joy there. If you cannot make your way home Pip, stay safe until we find you, missing your terribly, Katie your Mum and Sammy your brother cannot understanding why you are not here. Pip was my constant companion, helping muck out stables and coming to work with me. I can't imagine life without himLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Audrey you are doing a brilliant job searching for Pippin. I spoke to the office who are taking calls on behalf of the DW, the only reported sighting is the one from the refuge collectors. Have you left your details with them, if not DW contact number is 07970 595199. Have emailed a site poster of Pippin to them. Jan xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Young Lurcher on our found pages today. Described as Saluki type, but possible, if he has been picked up. Found not too far from you. Please check.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Audrey, well done for doing so much already. Do keep postering, everywhere there are people. You need to keep the sightings coming in. Get on to the papers that cover your area and try to get something in there as soon as possible. I hope you have another sighting soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Pippin well. Stay safe Pippin, and come home soon x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Pippin went off across our field with his mother on tues about 4pm chasing rabbits, his mother came back, he did not we think he followed the railway line to Sherburn in Elmet station, as he was sighted crossing the Wheatsheaf Pub car park about 8pm and also sighting at roundabout of B1222 and A162 near the Wheatsheaf at the same time, this was reported to Sherburn Police. At this time he was with a black/white collie type dog. The only other sighting is on Wed at 9am sighted by bin men near Sherburn High School and Highfield Villas, this was reported to dog warden, but he was on his own at this time. He did have a collar on but binmen stated no collar. Posters have been put all around surrounding villages in pubs and shops and also handed out to farmers in fields and dog walkers, and taken to local livery yards and horse owners, posters also going up at local horse shows this weekend. I think he will stick to fields as he is not used to built up areas. Have contacted Selby and Leeds Dog wardens and rang Marina and Springfield Kennels, but cannot find out who Selby area use as Dog Warden on holiday until Monday (apart from Rose Farm at Church Fenton, and they say they do not get many dogs ) Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
