- Tragic and very upsetting. Without any facts as to what happened though, not sure how anyone can condemn the person who did this. The farmer has 48 hrs to report the shooting after its happened.

- Very sad, and quite unjustified. I would certainly contact the police on 101. The law only allows a farmer to shoot a dog if it is a threat to livestock, so this is a crime if there were no livestock around. It is also a crime to shoot on another person's land without permission (armed trespass)..... Someone who commits firearms offences shouldn't have a firearms licence, and by reporting it you may actually prevent a more serious incident in the future.

- So very sorry for your tragic loss. RIP Ruby.
If you feel able, both the RSPCA and police should be notified. There may have been other incidents that you are unaware of. Over on the other coast (albeit only a 43 minute drive away) a cat was recently shot. West Briton link-

- I would most certainly contact the police too. If there was no livestock surely this is a crime? Nightie, might Ruby, sleep tight, and have fun at the bridge with the other "Rainbow babies" RIP+ God Blessx A~~~Candle~~~burns for you. Ruin free Ruby (HUG)X One day when the time is right, you will meet Ruby at the bridge, and cross over together; never to be parted. She may be gone in body, but remains with you in spirit. And you are able to lay her to rest:-(
Whilst I realize that farmers do have to take care of their livestock, some farmers are trigger happy I hope start asking some quetions; I would. Keep us posted - 2016-09-03 11:47 Sue - onestopalldogs

- Thank you so much to everyone for their help and best wishes. Ruby has passed away. I don't know what happened but she was shot. There is no livestock in the field where her body was found or any of the fields as far as the eye can see so I don't understand why anyone would have done this. At least I have her body back and I know that she's not out lost and alone. I so appreciate you all taking the time and trouble to help.
