- I must be lucky with my Rommie Rescue Millie, she is really frightened if you go to pick her up. Rory her Rescue GSD brother has been a big help to her. She does go on walks and even goes off the lead. She will always come back for a treat. She is disabled so she needs to walk on flat grass but we all love her to bits..
- 2016-10-20 16:57 susieq666
- I really hope she finds the right home soon. She must be living in constant fear and stress. I can't help feeling that some street dogs will never settle. I hope she's not one of them.
- 2016-10-20 08:54 NickyB
- my Romanian rescue was lost from adopters garden on day 1 because they ignored all advice given by rescue organisation. most of these dogs are street dogs and are terrified, quite rightly, of people. these frightened dogs need peace quiet 100% secure surroundings, lots and lots of patient understanding.........even now after 2 years i must never forget she is afraid of strangers, and i she never leaves our home and garden......... lots and lots of people have kind hearts and lots of love to give but these terrified abused dogs may never really relax in all situations. rosie is a sweet loving gentle dog - but she is easily scared and in her case she will attack when frightened. she is a very large responsibility but we love her and understand her needs - some of these dogs from abroad and fine - but as you see on doglost.co.uk so many are lost and need very very understanding owners and very very secure homes.poor Mango has gone thro hell - i do hope he finds peace and security soon and an owner who fully understands his needs

- I have been informed that Mango has been trapped in the owner's conservatory so I've updated her status. I'm afraid I have no more details than that but I'm sure the wonderful people who caught her will let us know how they did it later! Many thanks to everyone who helped over the last weeks.
- 2016-10-17 17:29 ann
- I have copied a link to an article which is about catching a dog in a trap which closes on the dog after food was put inside. I don't know if this helps?

- Sadly not much to report as Mango is still evading capture. Julia and Claire are going over each day to watch the trap but although she has put her 2 front paws in she has not taken the bait. Unfortunately there are still some people who are feeding her so she is not hungry enough to go right in for the food.

- 2016-10-11 19:50 Ninja - Area Volunteer, Lincolnshire
- Mango had her 2 front feet in the trap last night and was very close to getting a third one in! Hopefully tonight she will be abit braver now she has had over 24 hours to get used to the trap, she has been laid next to it this evening.
- 2016-10-11 17:54 Butternut
- Thanks for the information about the behaviorist Keja. However I feel the DogLost volunteers and a couple of other helpers are doing a fantastic job right now and working as hard as they can to catch Mango.

- I have just got back from trying to contain Mango. it took me 2 hours to gain her confidence and I managed to get her to put her nose through the back door but then something spooked her. She has a safe and comfortable place to sleep and i will go over again tomorrow to try and get her to take that final step through the door.
I would like to thank Helen for meeting me there and introducing me to Mango.Last edited: 2016-10-08 19:29:23 by AlisonH - 2016-10-08 18:49 DM2345
- The police will only attend and catch if it's a dog under the dangerous dogs act. The council dog warden will only collect if it's already captured and the RSPCA will only attend to a sick or injured animal or a cruelty case. No one will do anything, it's all left to the owners and volunteers I'm afraid.
- 2016-10-08 18:15 Juls
- I wished I lived nearby I would sit there all night , bless this dog everyone is trying so hard, why don,t police help help , and rspca they must have trained people and traps to help and why not !!x
- 2016-10-08 18:08 Star3
- Has a trap been sourced???
- 2016-10-08 17:16 Shelagh
- Is anybody complaining about police behaviour? This all needs reporting, utterly disgusting behaviour
- 2016-10-08 16:10 Skywalker99
- What's an 'indecent reg'? Doesn't surprise me, police thought it was socially acceptable behaviour to get owners out if bed at 2.30am, and as for the person who made the complaint, what do they expect the police to do, magic up an unscarred mango?
- 2016-10-08 15:46 Mel
- Why would they do that? A rescue dog, frightened out of its skin anyway; I really don't get it at all; does she bite? Mango needs to be caught or its going to end in tragedy.
- 2016-10-08 15:25 Keja
- We have 2 lovely ladies helping with mango and guess what. A police car came up the road and drove at side of her and chased her off. We said you have an incedent reg her which they were aware of and it advises not to approach her.
- 2016-10-08 10:04 Alibob73
- Currently liaising with 2 dog tracers. Volunteers also going today to try to help x
- 2016-10-07 22:53 Star3
- Would setting a trap not be the best solution now? Create a den with some good food in it. She is more at risk now from being run over or scared out out if the area :(
- 2016-10-07 20:19 Mel
- Aaahh! Wished I lived nearby, I'm sure she wants to go home, just a bit nervous, otherwise I'm sure she would have disappeared. Hope you manage to coax her soon. She looks just like a dog I had years ago, Holly, she was a cross Chow-Chow,her brother had a black tongue, sweetest natured dog she was. Hope Mango (love the name) is home soon xxx
- 2016-10-07 20:19 Nicky - Area Co-ordinator London, Home Counties & Police Liaison
- Thanks for the update Butternut. Really hope there is someone local who can help get this lovely girl safe x
- 2016-10-07 19:37 Butternut
- Two fabulous volunteers linked to the rescue went to the area this afternoon and spent a few hours there trying to win Mango's trust. They got so close, they really almost could have caught her but unfortunately she was scared off before they managed it. Very very frustrating but it gives us hope that she could be caught if someone has the time (and patience) to just sit, throw treats, and get her close enough without lunging at her. She is currently staying in the area of the owners property but just won't go back in.
Unfortunately the two people who went there today can't go again tomorrow, so I wonder are there any volunteers on here who are local and who might have time to spend an hour or more trying the same thing please? I know it's quite a big ask, but if anybody thinks they could help, please could you call 07502293939 to speak to one of the people who was there today and who can talk you through what to do?
Or if anyone knows of a dog trainer or behaviourist or similar from that area who we might be able to help us do this, please can they let us have details so we can contact them?
Many thanks everyone.

- I think Shelagh's point might have been that she would understand romanian better than english...not necessarily the voice
- 2016-10-07 14:18 Juls
- Can,t understand why the rspca won,t help , shame on them !! They should be helping that poor dog to be safe .
- 2016-10-07 13:10 Alibob73
- Shelagh - Mango was in private foster care in Romania for a year before she came over. We have recordings of her foster careers voice calling her. She responded to her voice at first, but is no longer responding to it x
Alison - the police were less than helpful! But, somebody has made a complaint so I suppose they had to respond. But, they won't help, nor will the council or RSPCA. It's a nightmare x

- Mango no longer in the area. Owners were woken by the police at 2:30am this morning telling them they have to get mango off the streets. They have been trying day and night for 3 days! The policeman kept shining his torch at mango even though they told him not to and mango ran off scared. Please report sightings urgently to the number on the poster. Owners can collect a trap today but are obviously not experts in using a trap!
- 2016-10-06 17:21 AlisonH
- Ninja advised Janet when Mango first went missing and is still on the case. mango is so frightened that a trap will probably traumatise her even more. Ninja will be calling Janet again this evening but right now is at a feeding station for another dog.

- 2016-10-05 21:51 BorderCol
- If she is hungry then a knowledgeable clicker trainer can probably get her into a safe place and teach her to accept some handling. I have successfully, and quickly, done this with a feral cat. It is the method used to manage captive wild animals which cannot be handled. a soft clicker sound can be used or muffled in a pocket to avoid frightening her.
- 2016-10-05 16:28 NickyB
- the fact this scared dog has again returned home to me means its a safe place for her. i beg the people who have her please to adopt her as clearly she has bonded with you. although she has run away twice she has got home twice........ keeping fingers and toes crossed she will be home before bedtime today

- Could you leave the gate open, crouch down low inside the gate with your back to her and throw her bits of food ( the smellier the better) gradually getting nearer to the inside of the garden (if that makes sense)
- 2016-10-05 15:52 Alibob73
- Mango is still on the end of the owners drive but will not enter the gate. She has been fed on the drive and is very hungry. It is a very windy day which we think is spooking Mango. It was also very windy last week when she escaped.
As Mango is in the same area, does anybody have a trap to catch her urgently so the owner can get her in the house and safe??? - 2016-10-05 15:21 Alibob73

- Update from owner this morning:
She spent the night in next doors garden. I went out at 6 and saw her. She goy up wagged her tail and cleared off. She never came for her food which we left for her. We have been round looking for her this morning but we assume she has gone back to her dogs on the river. We had several dogs and owners outside our house last night and she sat watching and wagging her tail but wouldn't come near. I think if she doesn't come home soon a trap will be needed as she keeps coming back - 2016-10-04 17:10 Jayne - Founder Doglost.

- We have rescued dogs in the past. They have been frightened, or angry. The last two were angry and nearly went back. The rescue asked us to try Bach Flower Remedies we were advised to get a bottle of Holly and one of Walnut, two drops twice a day on a biscuit. Over a couple of weeks they calmed right down and they were a pleasure to own. Have a look at Bach Flower remedies there are about 37 different types on offer, you may even find one that helps.
- 2016-10-03 17:06 Alibob73
- Mango is currently being cared for by her adopted Mum and Dad. She is very slowly starting to learn to trust people and is even starting to raise her leg for a tummy rub :) No decisions will be made for another week, but whatever happens, the decision that is made will be what's best for Mango. She really is a beautiful dog, just incredibly scared and nervous.
- 2016-10-03 16:06 ann
- Please note that the organisation which brought this dog to the UK is trying to find another home for her 'urgently' even though she has returned and has gone through all the trauma of being brought to the UK and escaping and returning.

- Thank you Lindsey for the update on the lovely Mango please continue to let us know of her progess. She has such lovely eyes I am sure she is longing to love someone .
- 2016-10-02 21:25 Lindsey
- Hi all. I was so stressed last night and so relieved that Mango found her way back this morning. Romanian dogs are known for being very smart, strays in general I guess. The family were also very stressed and hadn't expected these difficulties, something my rescue will address in future adoptions. 99.9% Of the adoptions are successful and those families have a friend for life. What's happened today is that Mango is letting the family stroke her and they want to see what the next week brings before they decide if Mango needs to be rehomed. If that happens it would be great to keep her local. Mango has only been in the Country just over a week and this experience is huge, overwhelming and scary. Thank you Dogs Lost for your dedication and to all for thinking of her. Lindsey
- 2016-10-02 21:17 Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
- Brilliant that she returned of her own accord. She obviously has some trust, bless her. She will, one day, realise that her people love her and wont harm her. Welcome back little one.
- 2016-10-02 20:59 Nina
- Thank you for the updates. I can tell you that last night after speaking to Lindsey a rescue helper I was so concerned I could not sleep. The news from this morning has given me hope that Mango is willing to accept her new life.
- 2016-10-02 20:51 Hollieberry
- I am very pleased that Mango went back of her own accord I was just worried about where she would go from there. Poor girl I hope she can find peace at some point in her life.
- 2016-10-02 20:15 Ninja - Area Volunteer, Lincolnshire
- The adopters did everything right for this girl!
Put posters up, spoke to all locals and dog walkers etc.
They followed up every sighting and got a feed station set up!
I had been in contact and was ready with a trap if needed!
It seems they weren't given correct information about Mango.
She came into the country and spent her 2 days in kennels, which she was then taken/collected and went to her new home.
She was so scared that nobody could even get near her let alone touch her, hence she wasn't wearing a collar!
Also it seems she had bit a kennel maids in her time at kennels!

- 2016-10-01 22:31 Nina

- 2016-10-01 22:27 Lindsey
- I'v asked and just waiting to hear if there is anyone. I have contacted the transporter she travelled with, but no reply yet. I was hoping she would have links in the area
- 2016-10-01 22:15 Nina
- Lindsey do you not have any members in the area she is missing from
- 2016-10-01 22:00 Lindsey
- She is pretty much on her own, so really will be so grateful to local people keeping an eye out. If a trap can be set am not sure who can set it. I'm in Merseyside `

- Difficult situation but just keep letting doglost know of any sightings. I presume posters are up in as many places as possible. Schools ,dog bins, bus stops etc. Facebook and twitter.Last edited: 2016-10-01 21:58:31 by Nina

- Yes I'm in the rescue, no he won't be returning and will be rehomed once caught
- 2016-10-01 21:48 Nina
- Does the owner not want the dog back If so has the rescue been informed of the situation.
- 2016-10-01 21:46 Lindsey
- The owner won't be involved. The situation is there is nobody that we know of who will be doing these things. What do you do in situations like this please?
- 2016-10-01 21:46 Nina
- Lindsey you are doing a grand job letting us know can you continue.
- 2016-10-01 21:44 Lindsey
- Dogs Lost - people are calling the number on poster, but the family aren't writing the sightings on here. What's the best thing to do please?
- 2016-10-01 21:41 Nina
- Try the scenting method ask owner to collect pee and sprinkle a route back to home front or back door. You can also use smelly old clothes and cut into small pieces and leave a trail. Leave the front gate and back gate open if you have one.

- rescues bringing in these absolutely terrified street dogs must really appreciate their terror - far too many are lost virtually on arrival - i adopted one that was lost on day one - three weeks later a brave man grabbed harness she was still wearing and got bitten 6 times. dog warden picked her up and she was in kennels 11 days before they were able to scan her............... do hope mango is found safe and well and is kept 100% secure until she can cope with a domestic life......it takes weeks and months of understanding their fear of everyone and everything as they are virtually wild animals
