I'm not sure that Suky's page is the place for a debate on copyright, but here we go: Firstly, the originator of the image is the copyright owner unless they assign it to someone else. To get round this on DogLost I changed the T&Cs to say that by uploading an image to DogLost owners have assigned the copyright to us. That makes it less problematic when we need to use the photo for publicity purposes. If you share posts on Facebook or Twitter you are sharing it with the originator's name/post so no problem. It is when you lift a photo and use it in a different context that there is a breach of copyright. Editors and journalists have been debating this for a number of years and using images from social media without permission may be considered OK if it's in the public interest and the photographer credited. The added complication is that Facebook now deems all images uploaded as their copyright.... So the answer to the TVP photo is yes we have breached copyright but as it's in the public interest and we have credited them here they probably wouldn't make a fuss. In answer to Bo's question, if a photo has been lifted from a third party - perhaps a local newspaper - without consent we are breaching their copyright. The penalties are severe which is why I do remind people from time to time. I hope that clarifies a little. Last edited: 2016-10-08 23:09:39

Once in the public domain ie Facebook, Twitter or any other there is no copyright unless specifically stated.

On another issue why would anyone think that a domestic pet would make a good courser. Beggars belief. Welcome home Suky xx
Bo
Nik PR Advisor - Does that mean that every photo cross posted from external third parties can no longer be uploaded due to copyright in the future unless direct permission has been given - just so we know what's allowed to be copied and what is not? TaLast edited: 2016-10-08 21:27:05 by Bo

Well done TVP and also those who notified them of the coursing.please if people see illegal activities dont hesitate calling the police. There are so many missing dogs out there xxx

We would not usually breach copyright, but I am sure TVP would not mind us using this photo of Suky.

Thames Valley Police were called to challenge some 'individuals' that were hare coursing in the #Watchfield area this morning, 08/10/16 at 7:36. They made off, leaving dear sweet Suky Dog standing there. TVP returned Suky to her anxiously awaiting ménage. Suky is now sleeping her ordeal off, at her Family home. I have spoken with her Owner, Darren, and he has confirmed that Suky is well, albeit a few cuts and marks. She will be checked over at the Vets.
We are so happy for you and your Family Jade Louise <3
Doglost Oxfordshire would personally like to thank each and every individual that shared Suky's details, and held her in their thoughts.

Well done TVP for being in the right place at the right time. It was only a matter of time before the hare coursers realised that Suky was not the girl for the job and dumped her.Last edited: 2016-10-08 19:52:35
