- Craig - It's horrible what's happened and I understand why you say you won't get another dog, yet so many lovely rescue dogs would love the life style you could offer. Perhaps with time you could think about fostering a rescue dog - not to replace her, but in her honour. I am so sorry for your loss. 🌹

- Can I take this opportunity to say huge thanks to everyone for their sound advice and kind wishes. It looks like it was already too late, when I posted online (and I did put some posters up). She was so spooked by the fireworks that I think she fell in the canal very soon after bolting. She was was always very sensible and confident near the water during daylight, and she'd become a proper 'boat dog'. She'd never failed to come to my call before. I have to admit to feeling very guilty that I wasn't able physically to stop her getting past me when I went out to the local shop. I opened the door as narrowly as I could, and she'd been cowering in a corner until that point, but she jumped up and squeezed past and was off like a shot. I feel I was negligent, although it's not as if I wasn't mindful of the danger, or being blasé. I won't be getting another dog, I think. Not for safety reasons: many narrowboaters have dogs. It's simply that she was really, really special. Everyone who met her was smitten. So bright, so affectionate, so playful. Not replaceable. A very kind person retrieved her from the canal, about 200 yards from our boat, and took her to a vet's for her chip to be read; the practice manager got in touch with me. Thanks again. Much love, Craig.

- Craig if you have friends or family with a printer ask them if they would print you some off.alternatively you can print some at the library for a small fee.Plastic wallets are £1 for about 50 at the bargain shops.x
- 2016-11-09 19:50 Nina
- Craig in the past I know that other owners of missing dogs have managed to get printers to print some off don't know the cost involved. Then get some cheap plastic wallets from the pound shop put them up with the opening to the bottom in case it rains
- 2016-11-09 19:13 CraigHarris
- Will do, everyone. I need to fix my printer and find my laminator, though! It's a small community where I live so I won't need loads. Thanks again.

- Craig posterers really do work. We all know about facebook and twitter but not everyone uses these methods of making contact. Reading a poster and getting the picture of the missing dog firmly imprinted on your mind for a lot of people is the way it works best. The suggestion I made about contacting schools is valid 'remember kids don't miss a thing'Last edited: 2016-11-09 18:53:04 by Nina

- Creaig, there are countless stories on this site that show your thinking is wrong, there are also people who find dogs who just don't know about microchips and reporting to the dog warden and just naively think they can keep them....you need tons of posters.Last edited: 2016-11-09 15:23:06 by Skywalker99

- Craig: There is NOTHING to beat posters. Don't assume that if she has been stolen, the posters won't work. Other (decent) people who have seen their neighbour or acquaintance has acquired a dog like yours and who have seen one of the posters may report her whereabouts. Try everything you can to get her back and this definitely includes LOTS of posters everywhere.
- 2016-11-09 14:04 CraigHarris
- Thanks Alison. I have to admit my thinking goes like this. If she's alive and been found by decent people, they would have gone to a vet's to have her chip read, or alerted the nearest councils' dog wardens, who've been informed. If she's been nicked, no amount of posters will achieve anything. But I may be wrong. At the moment I'm just hoping she's warm and safe, whether or not we're ever reunited.

- Craig someone who doesn't use social media may have taken her in so put up posters all around the area and post notes through letterboxes. Contact all vets and your local council/dog warden.

- Thanks everyone for advice and help. I won't give up hope of finding my daft little girl! Bloody fireworks...

- Owner try putting posters in post boxes for the postmen, ask schools to help offer a reward towards school funds, contact taxi firms, poster bus stops and litter bins,
