Very much appreciated khoward. Thank you. You have really helped out such a lot. Harlow Farmers Market is coming up on Fri 16th Nov, and looks to be a really big event with loads of stalls. Held in the market square between 9am and 5pm. If there is anyone in the Harlow area, this would be a very good opportunity to poster. Come on Wilma, show your pretty face xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have put up more posters in Epping forest. I have now added "still missing" to the posters. Will keep postering. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Josephine. Valid point re- microchip company. Will message Tony to remind them she is still missing. Thank you for postering and keeping watch. It just takes the one poster in the right place sometimes, or that little bit of luck. The trouble is that after a while, local people often think the dog was found unless the publicity is kept up. Can anyone local please check all vets and pet food stores have a poster on display? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Put up few more poters and keep looking but no sign yet. I did a double back and follow on one possible dog being walked near Toot Hill but it wasnt her. This dog has been so well publisized round here, I suspect she has been taken further afield, but we can't rule anything out. She'll have to be taken to a vet at some point. Lets just hope they do their job and scan her on her first visit and get her home. Assume her microchip company has been informed that she is missing. Something I didn't immediately think or know to do. Be safe Wilma-sniff out a good person to help you home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Where are you Wilma? Owner has been trying to follow up on the builders, but there were so many of them on the site, and some came from Norwich. Also another lead in Cambridgeshire, but nothing has come from it. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner rang last night, and we had a long conversation. He is very grateful for the amazing help from everyone on here, at what continues to be, a very difficult time. His luck hasn't changed I'm afraid. He wants everyone to know that the search is still very much on, and has established many contacts re his whippet clubs, and friends in North of the country, and 'the word is definitely out'. I know it is hard without a lead, but anyone local who sees posters coming down, please replace them if you can. He has remembered that there were workmen in the area around the time Wilma went missing, and this is always a possibility. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you fendog and khoward. Thats Great. Also Josephine, thank you for your help, and I'm so sorry Poppy isn't home yet. It will be two years on Wednesday since you lost her, so please Poppy, and Wilma, show yourselves soon. I have now done all vets, Suffolk, Norfolk, and Cambridgeshire, plus all CM and all CO postcodes in Essex. Owner, if you read this on friends PC, I know you have been spreading the word quite widely yourself, and have contacts all over via the whippet world. We all hope you are feeling better and have contacted some of the local and free papers in Epping area. Have there been any leads at all ? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Toot Hill posters rather delapidated now. Have printed off some posters from the info page to put up here, Tawney Common and hopefully some in the forest. Bridalways particuarly useful as the riders cover large area's and many of them are doggy people and would be happy to help. We get the Essex Chronicle as you mentioned and also a local monthly newsletter, which usally features recent sitings of our big cat. Most are around the village but the last was on Tawney Common, about 7weeks ago, not far from where both our dogs went missing. I found my Northweald posters were continually ripped down and had to keep replacing them, so the vet kindly put one in his window as well as on the noticeboard there. Unfortunately I am meant to be away this wknd but will do what I can. I wish I had received an e-mail on this one so could have helped sooner. think I'd better re-send it to Jayne as it may have been lost! Good work all!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Crumbs, everyones been busy on here !! And a couple of new helpers, fendog and Josephine. Thank you so much for helping find Wilma. Have sent posters to police HQ Norfolk, and all police stations Norfolk area. Had some good replies saying posters have been forwarded to various departments. Lost track now, but the word is going out. Have emailed all vets I can in Suffolk, and like you fendog, have done Norfolk, so they'll know the name of Wilma !! Am still faxing Suffolk and Norfolk, but just had a wrong number and got someone out of bed so had better hold fire until tomorrow LOL. Thanks for your brilliant effort again khoward, and will fax your lists tomorrow. Friend of Wilma, you're going great guns, and local papers are a really good idea. These should get into almost every home, and may flush her out if someone has her locally. Whippet people will also spread the word, and will cover the country, so brilliant network there. Really good teamwork on here. Well done eveyone. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
FRIEND OF WILMA'S OWNER
Thank you fendog and khoward. I have been in touch with a whippet racing lady who has members in east anglia, up to lincolnshire, down to essex and links with kent too, she will forward poster link to her contacts and will be attending a championship meeting shortly which will have whippet people from all over the country - the more people who see the poster/can look at the poster link on this website the better. Am working on getting something in the papers - hoping Tony will be able to make the relevant phone calls but am doing the ground work for him - Josephine - could you let me know the name of any free newspapers delivered to the area? Not sure Tony gets them as up a long drive!? Also does the observer (dunmow-herts) or the essex chronicle or the east anglian daily times get sold in that area? Any feedback on this gratefully received. One further thought - has anyone postered Fidler's Hamlet? Is it classed as part of Coopersale? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Will be in this area again next week so will continue to poster and will do A12 garages north bound. Rescue centres and vets in Norfolk have been emailed Wilma's details. Stay safe Wilma. Oh no! This is truly awful, if only I had read this sooner, i could have perhaps been more help. I know the owner through my missing dog Poppy. Wilma is not the first dog poor Tony has lost. When Poppy went missing he told me he had had a dog stolen before. I know the area very well and will get out and search-ideally start running there again, like I used to with Poppy. More chance of seeing her that way if she is living there. I know most of the watering holes as Poppy liked to seek them out for a nice wallow!xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I saw the posters going up in my village (Toot Hill). I think they are still there, but will check on this tomorrow. I've been seeing the posters everywhere and think you're doing a great job. Many of them are in the same places I put posters for my beautiful Border Collie, Poppy, who is sadly still missing (2yrs next Wed). I do hope Wilma is home soon. I will keeep looking out for her and keep my fingers crossed. Let me know if you need any more help/idea's. Havn't read right through yet to check where you've tried so far-will read more soo! Anyone looking at those gorgeous big eyes must surely feel bound to help her home. Good luck! xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
FRIEND OF WILMA'S OWNER
What is the D1 area?? (Sorry to be ignorant). Many thanks for all help. Sorry I've not been in touch lately, have been feeling a bit negative about getting her back but things are still being done. Tony attended a meeting last weekend and handed out flyers to everyone there and the people came from all over so we're getting the word out. I have emailed whippet people the link for the new poster this evening. Any chance, khoward, of postering Toot Hill village again/the road that leads up from Toot towards Tawney Common if you are in the area or is that too far away for you to get to? Unfortunately I cannot go myself the next couple of weekends. Posters were put up in that area but I'm not sure how many and I'm not sure there are many now. Other news from Tony is he got a phone call from someone in Epping (St Johns Rd I believe - don't know where that is) who had seen a whippet-type but wasn't sure it was the one on the poster. He checked it out but no sign of the dog by then I believe. He doesn't think it was her but he knows people in that area so if any more sightings I'm sure he'd be told. He also stopped a van driving down the high street with a fawn and white whippet but again, sadly, it wasn't wilma. I'm not sure how many shops etc have been done so it would be great if you could do the high street like you propose. Many many thanks. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Epping Farmers Market is on this Fri Friday 5th Oct. It runs on the first Fri of each month, 9am-1pm, and is located in the High St. Would be lovely if some of the new bright posters could be put around the area before then. Wilma could still be local to the area, if someone has taken her in. We are keeping all avenues open, as someone knows something. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

NEW POSTERS OF WILMA can be downloaded, printed, and displayed from our 'info centre' which is on the front page, top left, under the donation button. Please print and display, as it now shows most of her markings and will help with her identification. So far over 200 new emails have been sent out to those previously contacted and more. My printer is temporarily blocked with a damaged cartridge but I have asked Majorjet to please print a poster and mail it to Wilma's owner tomorrow, in order that he can order his copies from the printers. Unfortunately he is not on line. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Posters do not need amending, but it does now seem likely Wilma has been picked up and taken further away, as still no sightings at all. Poster does say she may have been picked up by passing car. If anyone could poster public houses around Epping, Theydon Bois, Thornwood, High Beech, North Weald etc it would help, as difficult to get email or fax numbers for them. Tony has had another call. Different accent, but saying they may know where the dog is. It will now be a waiting game, and we will see if any more comes from it. Tony wants everyone to know that he is so grateful, and completely taken aback by all the help and kindness that has been shown to him, at a most difficult time. Due to the nature of his work, and the time of year, this could not have come at a worse time for him, and he wants everyone to know that we have restored his faith in human nature. I said, but that's what we do, we get dogs back !! and so, we carry on postering, until we get Wilma back. Thanks everyone. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Great job khoward. You are doing everything right. Thanks for the market postering. Yes I know what you mean, but after the first couple, it becomes 'what the heck'. Most people are sympathetic. You get to be on a mission, and not care in the end. Will give that number a call. I dont know who they are but will see. Have emailed poster to Ashlyns Farm Shop, but if you are passing and could one in, just in case he doesn't read his emails. Hi just come back from North Weald Martket and managed to give out 80 leaflets in an hour - mostly targeting people with dogs, pet stalls, ice cream vans and groups of people sitting at the refreshment ares. Its quite scary approaching and talking to people but everyone seemed concerned about Wilma. A man gave us a rescue number that he works at in Bishops Stortford 01279 501 547 so may be worth a call. if not called already. On way back I put some posters up in Thornwood including the Garden Centre, Aqua Center, Happy pets and few more up in Theydon Bois and Epping. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We will make our way down to to North Weald Market tomorrow morning and hand out 80 of the small leaflets I have had printed today. I can also get some posters up in Epping Green and Thornwood. I spoke to a school in North Weald today asking them to put some posters up but they said they were aware of Wilma by the posters outside the school. So at least people are taking note. I really do hope we get a sighting soon someone must have seen her! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I spoke to Harlow DC enforcement this morning and they were not aware of the recent illegal encampment. However, in a conversation with Tony this evening he says that they had moved on when he went up there. I have also spoken to the G&T Services Manager at Essex CC, but he did not have any useful intelligence. However, the warden who covers both official Harlow sites will be taking a poster of Wilma in there on Monday. There are a coule of other people I can speak to at Harlow DC and I will do that on Monday. I think it highly unlikely that Tony will be able to get away from work to do North Weald Market, so it would be wonderful if KHoward and her husband could go.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi khoward. Sorry but have been at work. Unfortunately Friend of Tony is not in CM16, so not sure if is able to help with postering. Also by earlier post, will be away some of the time at the weekend. What I usually do when its my area, is drive around, and just do anywhere I see that needs posters. Re the farms, I have got a couple of fax no's for farms, Warren Smith Farm, and Thrifts Hall Farm, so will send posters to those two with a letter. I am going to look for businesses in the area to send posters to next. Re- the market, it would be lovely if you could hand out leafletts for an hour. So many people go there, and people with dogs would be most concerned about Wilma, and likely to walk in the area. Feel free to contact Tony, by calling, or texting. He has no iinternet access I'm afraid, so cannot update himself. I'm sure he would be pleased to hear from you. We WILL see Wilma in the blue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a big ring round this morning and have email/faxed and sent posters to Hobbs Cross Farm, North Weald Golf Club, Toothill Golf Club, The Travellers friend (Epping Green), The Moletrap pub (Tawney Common), Forest Gate Inn (Epping), Blakes Golfe Club, Hobbs Cross Golf Club. Everyone was really helpful. Have also spoke to some professional dog walkers to keep there eyes out too. Will now give some of the Farms and Petshops in the area a call. My husband gets back from work will get some posters out tonight. Really want to see Wilma in the Blue soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry my post has crossed. Thanks for the update freind of Tony. we are so pleased to now get information back, and great that he is so positive, and working hard on this. The footpaths you mention definitely need postering asap. Thanks.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have Emailed North Weald Golf Centre, and Theydon Bois Golf Club with posters, asking them to inform all staff, display posters, and forward to anyone they know who could help or do likewise. I do hope they will help. Have had no more updates from Tony yet today. I think he has problems during his long working hours, and is out searching the rest of the time. Have left him text messages. Come on Wilma, please show your face baby !! Dad needs you home xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
FRIEND OF WILMA'S OWNER
Hello again. Have just spoken to Tony to get the latest. He is hoping someone he knows (or a friend of a friend?) is going to get in touch with the travellers and has apparently said if they have her, he WILL get her back. He feels if she was still in the area she would have been seen by now as he knows the neighbouring farmers, gamekeepers etc and he has had people on his estate yesterday I think who covered a lot of the woodland areas. He says he doesn't have any friends who would be able to do North Weald Market but he will try to go himself. Re putting ads in newspapers apparently someone phoned him last night regarding that and said they'd get something in the local ones?? Not sure who. Have told him to stay positive and that everyone else is being so helpful and saying we will find her. If no news by early next week, I will try the Essex Chronicle which I believe covers a fairly large area. Unfortunately I am away from Essex over the weekend but will hopefully still be able to look on this website and stay in touch, will be back monday when I can do some phoning/searching as necessary. There are public footpaths near the estate so hopefully over the weekend we may get a sighting, I do feel if she was local and able to she would have made her way home but fingers crossed for some good news. Many thanks again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh my goodness. Well done, and welcome Friend of Wilma's owner. How lovely that you have made it. Please be assured, that many of us have been through the trauma of losing a dog, and know exactly what Tony is suffering. We know it's very difficult for him, but please be assured we will do our utmost to get her back. There are some lovely helpers on here, and we wont give up very easily. It is still very early days. Probably if you were to ring the kennels every 2-3 days they shouldn't mind too much. Please would you keep us updated now, if you speak to Tony, before we do. Thanks x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
FRIEND OF WILMA'S OWNER
Hello, at last I'm in! I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for the massive amount of help everyone is being. I have phoned the most local kennels, police, dog warden who all have Tony's phone number and I will try them again tomorrow along with those further afield. I'm worried about annoying them by doubling up and keeping calling but hopefully that won't be the case!? I can't believe how much everyone has done to help poor Wilma - really really hope she's back safe soon. I can't thank you all enough - this is also on behalf of Tony, as you know, he has no computer access. I keep telling him how positive everyone is being and I know several of you have been in direct contact with him as well.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I will start getting some more posters up tomorrow . The ones that I have done have been in plastic wallets so should be weather proof. Just so you know Toothill golf club is gated off so I couldn't get in there on Wednesday. I will let you know how I get on with the posters tomorrow. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortunately I can't be of great help at the moment as I'm living in Newham (took me 45 minutes to get there last night) and don't get home from work most nights til nearly 7pm. From what my work colleague said today there is very little in this area apart from fields. The posters I put up were in upside down wallets. If my boss goes out tomorrow :-) I will try and print some more off to post out to any golf clubs etc I can find. I also gave Lin, the Harlow dog warden, a poster when I saw her on Tuesday night (she knows the people at Normandale Kennels very well - they also run Mutts in Distress).Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Chingford Kennels, Hillside RSPCA Kennels, Normandale Kennels, Danahar Animal Home Braintree. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Khoward, and Michelle, looking at the map, all of those areas you have mentioned definitely need postering. We are all so grateful you are willing to help this little dog. I'm sure she is so terrified somewhere, and will be holed up, not liking the cold night air at all. I just wish I was near the area to help out, as I feel it is awkward for Tony during the day, due to work. I'm sure you are doing this, but if you place each poster inside a plastic pocket with the opening at the bottom, and secure with waterproof tape, or cellotape, round and round, or drawing pins, you will not have to worry about the weather bringing them down. Re- the M25 and M11, I think she will stay away, unless there is anywhere she can get underneath. Sorry, dont know it at all. She wont be in open fields, but will find shelter in woodland, or hay bales, stables etc. If there is anyone around there with stables they need checking out, as she may search for food around there. I'm sure people must use those lanes as cut through, either by car, or bike, so we need posters everywhere. If soemone can go into the golf club and explain the situation, they may put posters inside, and inform all their staff. If there is a golf shop, ask to put one in there, or near the refreshment or toilet areas. Are there any little shops, or places people go? If there are any houses, or farms, they need posters. Also dont forget to put them in your cars, and also North Weald Market on Saturday. If there are any helpers in the area, or a little further out, that could lend a hand here, even for an hour or so, we would be so grateful, or anyone that goes to the market who would be willing to poster there, please come forward. I will try to find stables, rambling clubs etc in the area. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Brilliant all of you. Tony's friend has been trying to register on here to thank everyone on his behalf, for all the postering, and wonderful help he has received for Wilma. He is so very grateful. Yes Tony did have a call, which was a youngster asking about the reward. He said he may know where Wilma is, but he hasn't called back. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This area are very reluctant to give out the names of the dog pounds as they do not want to be telephoned out of hours !! They have said that they may stop taking rescues in if they DO continue to be bothered outside of normal working hours, so please be careful of this. For our information, dogs picked up by the Epping dog warden would be taken to either - Hillside RSPCA Kennels at Waltham Abbey, tele 01992 892881, or - Old Harlow Kennels, Old Harlow. tele 01279 429448. - If however the police pick them up, then they are taken to Littlehallingbury Kennels, Nr Bishops Stortford, tele 01279 654785. This area is also on the borders, and if dogs stray into Brentwood or Chelmsford areas they would probably go to Walace Kennels Brentwood, tele 01277 821032. This kennel is the pound serving Brentwood, Harlow, and Chelmsford. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Michelle. Tony is very touched by the support he is getting. He now is more positive, and feels that perhaps after all she may be still loose in the area, as from a young age has been used to chasing rabbits etc, and there are water troughs in the park which she drinks from when out walking. She wont like the chilly nights, and any wet weather though, so hopefully will decide enough is enough, but I fear it could take quite some time. Little monkey !Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My pleasure. I have posted pretty much the whole of Coopersale (every other lampost etc!) including even the trees on the way in. I put about 15 up in North Weald, and a few more up in Epping (about 100 in total). I text Tony earlier tonight and suggested when your posters arrive he also gives them to bin men, postmen, milk men etc. and to let me know if I can do anything else.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Michelle, Tony will be so grateful. He accepts texts messages, so he can be contacted that way. i felt so sorry for him this morning. No harm meant, but men with nobody to help, sometimes don't know what to do. That will give him a real good start and tomorrow if my posters arrive hopefully he will get one copied and get some more up. I don't think he realised what he had to do. Thanks so much again. Will PM you my contact numbers etc. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just printed 80 posters off and will cover the Coopersale area tonight. Coopersale itself isn't a very big village from what I remember, so will perhaps also venture down to North Weald (I think the farmer's fields link the 2 villages). Saturday night I put posters at the Epping traffic lights which you would see on the way from Coopersale. If I can do anything else, please let me know.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you so very much Michelle, you are a star !! I'm afraid I'm nowhere near to help, but have got the posters in the post to him, and have given him lots of pointers. The trouble is with the private estate, I get the impression that maybe the public are not allowed on to it, so could be a problem sighting the dog. He has spoken to the farmers around, and is about in his truck, but no sightings. Don't know where she would get water, but that would probably be a place to look. I'm hopeing horse riders will be about, and that bridal paths can be postered. Anything you can do would be a great help xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner, Tony. He could really do with some help with postering if anyone is in the Epping area please. Main trouble for him is he has no internet so unable to contact us via the page. Phone will be our means of contact, on the number shown below. Has got out of the garden, when the gate was left open by accident. Went off with an older dog who has come back, but no sightings at all of Wilma, who is mostly white in colour, so should be easy to see. Tony is a gamekeeper in a private estate, and Wilma knows all of the wooland area around, but has not been back to the cottage. Some posters have been put up, but I'm afraid not many, and am posting some to him that he can photo copy. have stressed that he needs hundreds to be put up, plus he must poster in the town, around the supermarkets and where most people go. He believes someone has taken her in, but in the area he lives, she could just be off on a major adventure. Have suggested he gets small posters done to hand out to dog walkers etc in the area. So far he has only informed very local vets and police, as relying on them scanning the chip. Has suggested newspaper advert, and he will try that now. I think he feels rather overwhelmed by the task in hand, so any help at all locally would be fantastic. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As soon as Admin receives a photograph, the poster will be emailed out to helpers. Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Wilma well. Stay safe Wilma, until you are found x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
