Admin can you please change the status - this dog was not Brecon . This has now been confirmed
Baydogs
Not sure how much wider you are contemplating but what about approaching the Devon Cubs and Scouts Movement to see if they would be willing to help with leaflet distribution?

Is anyone able to help with a wider leaflet drop around this area ?
Dartmoor runner
This sighting is still unconfirmed , no one else has seen this dog . Still unclear whether it is Brecon . Leaflets dropped in around the area and posters are in the local shop and pub . Admin - please change this back as he has not definitely been sighted .

Could a house to house leaflet drop be done in this area? If this sighting was Brecon it is possible that he has taken refuge in someone's garden and could be living off bird scraps.
Baydogs
Would your local radio put out another alert re this sighting Dartmoor runner?
Dartmoor runner
We have a possible sighting of Brecon in Bedford Road Horrabridge at 2000 hrs last night - Tuesday . Please keep your eyes peeled if you are in the area . This is the first possible sighting in 10 days Last edited: 2016-12-07 08:18:31 by Dartmoor runner

Hi, sorry to hear this little one is still missing. has the owner contacted the local paper, Tavistock Times, to see if they would run an article. its very odd because he couldnt have gone that far you would have thought and the area is quite flat and open. what about the local farmers who keep their livestock on the moor? and to help with that, could South West Equine Protection help? they know the moor very well. cross fingers he is found very soon

Admin - i have just uploaded another image of Brecon as he was not wearing his coat when he went missing .are you able to change the details for me please
Dartmoor runner
We still have no news on Brecon ,no sightings at all . Where is he ?
Mandaqu
Sharing on FB but this lovely chap isn't getting as much attention as I'd hope. I wonder what makes a lost dog campaign go viral.
Mandaqu
Can doglost help with getting assistance from k9search based in Devon?
susieq666
Oh no - I keep checking to see whether he's been found. Poor little lad - he needs to be home.
Dartmoor runner
We still have no news on Brecon , no sightings and no sign of him on the moor . A report this week that a local lady may have taken him in has proved to be unfounded.
The poster campaign is underway and my printer is working overtime tonight . Any helpers that can spare some time over the weekend are welcome to join us for a mass leaflet drop . Let's find him and get him home Last edited: 2016-12-01 20:40:18 by Dartmoor runner

Owl those were my exact thoughts.I see so many posts on FB where someone has found an elderly dog or a dog in poor condition and it's automatically assumed the dog has been dumped by an owner who no longer wants it so they don't report to dog wardens (or are told by others not to do so) I so hope this is what has happened to Brecon.I don't know the area but gather it's very popular with dog walkers. He may even have been picked up by someone not local.I do hope this is the case and they see the publicity for him
Dartmoor runner
We still have no definite news on Brecon despite a poster campaign and a Facebook page . We are also on the Tavistock Times page . So over the next few days we intend to distribute posters and leaflets around homes and the local area , including all of the access gates on to the Whitchurch Down area. If anyone in the local area is able to help out for an hour over the next few days it would be greatly appreciated . Have contacted Radio Devon and waiting to hear back on whether they will put out an appeal Last edited: 2016-11-30 13:17:05 by Dartmoor runner
DogLostOwl
It is not uncommon for very old dogs to be picked up and kept by someone who assumes they have been dumped because of age, and then does not report them in case they are taken to pound and pts. This is why you need to get the publicity further afield.Last edited: 2016-11-30 09:57:12 by Owl

Dartmoor runner - have messaged Find Brecon fb page regarding possible ID for dog walker. Not sure if you have seen - may appear as message request.
Baydogs
Disappointing not to have found Brecon today...yet perhaps this isn't all bad news, as it would be good to think that someone has him undercover, in the warm, and being looked after. However, that person hasn't notified the dog warden or local vets in order to find the rightful owner either.
Dartmoor runner, re your comment about distributing posters further afield, it might be an idea to include dog wardens, vets and rescues from outside your immediate area in case this finder has notified the authorities elsewhere in Devon.
Would Radio Devon put out an alert about this potential lady finder? Maybe this person does not have access to the internet and are currently unaware of Brecon's Facebook Page and all the shares - nor looked on here for a match.
Your idea of a wider distribution of posters should certainly help with that, as will eagle eyed dogwalkers who HAVE seen his details and may recognise him with someone else.

A huge thank you to all who helped in our search for Brecon today - your time and energy is very much appreciated. We searched a large area of Whutchurch Down today with no sign of of him . We do however have a possible sighting over the last few days . This is a very vague third hand report of him with a lady called Lucy who may be a local dog walker . She may live in the area of Westmoor Park or Priory Close in Tavistock . Does anyone local know this lady as we really do need to trace her . In the meantime please keep sharing our posts - we still have not found him

Thank you for the bump Millypod :)

Useful kit to take for those able to attend-
Gardening gloves/gauntlets
Secateurs
Small folding saw.

As well as looking inside any permitted outbuildings, please also look around the base of those outbuildings for spaces where a small dog could crawl underneath for shelter. Underneath wooden sheds is a favoured place for hibernating animals so there is often a little ready made "dug out".

Good luck and please wrap up warm x

****SEARCHERS NEEDED PLEASE****for this morning's search for BRECON.
TIME 11am
MEET The Pimple, Tavistock.
General searching has been to no avail. Thorough searching of the area needs to take place. If anyone has a snakecam for looking within bramble and thicket and down into holes and ditches please bring along or contact above number.

It seems that his old unstable confused boy has been out three very cold nights already. PLEASE SHARE. HE NEEDS FINDING ASAP.

Dartmoor runner,I see that you have already contacted Jenny and Tiga (K9 Tracker). Do hope she is available. In readiness, just in case she is able, if you have something only Brecon has worn ,like a coat or even a collar, please put this in a sealed bag.Last edited: 2016-11-29 01:13:21 by Baydogs

Thanks Geoff. Can't post there as I'm not an FB member but can now follow any developments :)

Dartmoor runner, it might be an idea to post on Lostbox FB and also the Lostbox website as well for those who are not on social media.
https://mylostbox.com/
Also put posters in any postboxes in your area for the postmen. Give delivery people details too and, if you have a local post office, see if they'll put one up there. Again, people who don't have internet access will see it.

Have added visitor post with link to this page with instructions on how to print poster.

You need to post the full link for the facebook page, facebook is selctive about what it shows people in searches so it may not come up, and there can be duplicate pages called the same thing....
Dartmoor runner
I have set up a dedicated Facebook page - it's called find Brecon missing border terrier . Please share if you are on Facebook
Baydogs
Please remember on your searches to look in ditches and any small streams or rivers. If his back legs are none too steady he could slip. Also between rock crevices (if terrain similar to your picture) because old confused dogs sometimes do strange things and get themselves stuck. Also look (as best you can) within bramble and thicket where he may have got caught up as Geoff suggested. Often tangled dogs make no noise in reply to your call.
I do hope you have some good news soon xLast edited: 2016-11-28 10:57:30 by Baydogs

If someone has picked him up they will hopefully take him to a vet and notify the DW today, and his chip should be scanned. You've notified the chip company that he is missing?

Posters are now in place all around the Whitchurch Down area. We have carried out a further search this afternoon with no reported sightings. This area is used be a lot of local people , so if he was still there I feel that he would have been seen by now. Both local vets contacted. The golf club have been very helpful and have a poster . Don't know if the owner is on FB Geoff but glad you've picked up on this as not everyone is aware of this Doglost website and go to the FB automatically.
Extra info-Brecon has problems with his rear legs and wasn't wearing a coat at time of disappearance so will have been cold last night if not found by someone and taken in.Last edited: 2016-11-27 14:42:19 by Baydogs

Have you mentioned it to the staff at the golf club in case any of their members see or hear Brecon while out playing? Are there any outbuildings he could have hidden in around the golf course? Could he have got caught up in undergrowth around the course? Hopefully Baydogs scenting and bbq suggestions will bring him home. Spoken to owner. This old lad is also on daily medication and becomes confused which makes his disappearance even more concerning. Have given scenting instructions (hoover bag and human) to leave a trail from area he disappeared to home which is only minutes away. Also to leave a worn item of clothing at place of disappearance and a way for him to get back into the home again whenever safe to do so. Owner will also have a BBQ up there tonight in case he has wandered off track in the hopes it will carry on the wind - Brecon enjoys his grub and hopefully this will guide him back.
Lots of posters with phone numbers have been given out today as it is a popular dog walking area.
Sorry I'm not close enough to help in person Dartmoor Runner but thinking of you and hoping for a sighting later x
Baydogs
Has anyone given you scenting instructions to leave in the area that he was originally lost?
Dartmoor runner
Thank you Baydogs - we are really worried about him as his health is not too good . We walk with him and our other border every day on Whitchurch Down, so he knows the area very well. We walk to the Down as it is very close to home . Had not thought about the radio - will get in touch .
Baydogs
Dartmoor runner, so sorry to see your elderly boy is missing. Do you walk him to this area or you drive there? Frequently dogs will return to the place that you usually park your car.
Will Radio Devon put out some alerts for you? Radio alerts can be very effective.
Dartmoor runner
Thank you everyone and please keep sharing our post . We have searched the whole area again this morning with no sightings . Posters will be going up this afternoon around the Whitchurch Down area. We need to find him as he is 15 years old and a little vulnerable.
