After reading the post below from Facebook I have spoken to Claire who has now had a report of a body found close to where Ruby went missing. The family are hoping to retrieve the body for definite confirmation but it was agreed to move Ruby's page to Rainbow Bridge.
Sorry it is not the outcome we were hoping for, RIP Ruby. X

Claire Farmer Having been in contact with witnesses who were on the beach as Ruby was swimming in the water,it appears that as she swam away from the shore she disappeared under the water. So we sadly assume she is dead. Thanks everyone for all your help and support. By sharing on Face Book, the internet, local paper and radio, we have managed to piece together what happened to Ruby and that has helped us enormously.

Update from Claire F,
Quick update on Ruby.
We have not found her yet though there was a possible sighting of a dog matching Ruby's description in the Clyst St George area this morning around 7am.If anyone lives in this area, can you keep eye out for a wandering dog.
Thanks for all the messages of support

Thanks for all your messages. We think that Ruby was indeed the dog in the water, spotted by many members of the public. The coastguard did come down to the beach and look with binoculars, but she couldn't be seen. There may be a faint possibility that she has come ashore somewhere alive up the River Exe.I hope that any sightings of her along the river banks will be reported.

Is this the dog that was seen on Exmouth beach swimming out to sea, then came back in, people trying to catch but couldn't yesterday? It's ok, I realise now that it is.Last edited: 2016-12-07 18:04:56 by sued

Sandy Bay beach was deserted - no sign of anything sadly - i have spoken to the head of security at the park (Devon Cliffs) and he is now aware and will let other workers know - as i was leaving he stopped me and said he had heard an appeal put on local radio station BAY FM - really need posters in the beach area - car parks, beach front cafes etc and some in side streets coming off from Foxholes area
