Sue and Keith thank you for your update. Have been thinking about you all, and Tom all day. I know how you must feel, having had no sightings at all. You must be very tired which doesn't help. Sounds as if the boy wont go hungry now, if he comes that way, and if he finds the food he will be back. Dont you worry about that. Stay safe Tom, until they find you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sunday update. We were back in Telford today even earlier start at 7.00am - no sign of Tom at all, made loads of food s, postering, scents - you name it we done it. Diane B had been last night to the Hare and Hounds bless her and left food in car park, we left whole tin of sardines there too before we left, she also left some at bus stop adjacent to Coniston Drive in Priorlees, we did same. Absolutely no sign of him - weather better today. We tried the Police Station - on intercom and no one coming to the door, so i will ask Mo who was helping us today who lives there to continue this approach. Also another lady Roz who 'tunes in to Dog Lost' and helps - she came from Kidderminster and turned up with posters in hand - how woderful are these people to give up their time so willingly. So big thanks to Mo - Sid and Roz and Diane B. We need the help now - we really thought there might be a chance of getting him this weekend - and we feel very dejected. If you haven't already can you go to the station where these policemen are based and give out leaflets and even some food for the men who have sighted him so they can tempt him in? It seems Tom's about when it's quiet and they're on their way to work so they're likely to be the best people to catch him. He's obviously not that shy with people so he will get caught fairly soon I think. Good luck xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good that Tom is staying in the area-shame about the weather-he is probably holed up in the area sheltering from the bad rain.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Everyone, quick update just before I leave for Telford. We were there yesterday in that awful weather with two helpers from our charity, absolutely hellish conditions. Left loads of posters and gave out cards and put down food in the Hare and Hounds pub car park and aroun d priorslee area and road to Ketley - at same time we sprayed our scent around and left items of clothing and put food down, but no sign yet. We are just on way to go to Telford this morning its 5.25 so there may be a chance of a sight if were early enough. Thanks everyone for your support. Felt very dejected and WET RIGHT THROUGH yesterday. love sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sue and Keith you have been doing a fantastic job with Tom and rooting for him to be home with you soon. Thanks everyone for all your support in helping them get Tom back. Another sighting is great Sue, so much easier if he's staying in the area. What a shame the PC couldn't have caught him. So sorry I can't get there in person tomorrow to help, got no transport. Following people is such a good sign, sounds like he might be ready to come home. Good luck over the weekend, I hope there'll be some good news very soon. SueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

HELLO EVERYONE its me again - this time with yet another sighting of TOM. He was sighted this morning 6.30 a.m. and he was following a policeman who was on his way to work. he followed the policeman for 30 minutes (the policeman had food in his panniers - but poor TOM wasn't given any !!!! this sighting is very close to Holyhead Road - the policeman saw him on Priorslee Avenue , Priorslee at the junction of Coniston Drive. Keith and I are going very early tomorrow. We are hoping to meet a few people in the HARE & HOUNDS PUB at 9.00 a.m. - 9.30 A.M. in the morning 8th December to have a little search party. IF ANYONE AROUND THAT AREA CAN HELP, WE WOULD BE MOST GRATEFUL FOR THE EXTRA PAIRS OF EYES. We know he is around this area now, and the HARE AND HOUN S PUB IS ON HOLYHEAD ROAD AND WE WILL BE IN CAR PARK THERE BETWEEN 9.00 a.m. and 9.30. Thanks everyone - SueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sue re your last post, when you mention the sighting near the pub on the Holyhead Road, is that the Hare and Hounds which i had mentioned in my last post, or is it a different Pub (I have looked on google maps and Holyhead Road is a very long Road!) I want to try and get up there tomorrow with some sardines and put them in the right place, also exactly what time was the sighting please. Diane xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone, there has been a first sighting of TOM. he was seen on Tuesday night walking along the Holyhead Road, Ketley not far from the pub. The lady said there is a housing estate not far and there are half finished homes there, which may be a place Tom could hide. This place is about a mile away from where he bolted - so could everyone around there please keep an eye out for him. I phoned jane Salisbury Dog Warden today who is passing on relevant info. and Nicky is going to have a look later, but at lease we have a point of reference and he isn't far away. Thanks again - we're going Sat and Sunday - wish us luck.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello Sue, good luck for the weekend! I'm sorry i can't join you this time, but i am working Sat. and fundraising for Gap on Sunday (so is Nicky) If you need a place to meet/have lunch in Oakengates i can reccomend the Hare and Hounds Pub, which is less than 5 mins walk from Reynolds Drive where Tom was last seen. You can smell the food there from Reynolds Drive, and there is a wooded area with lots of cover, leading from there to the back of the pub. Bev and i thought this would be an ideal location for Tom to hide in, so we visited the pub and the very helpful staff all came out to talk to us, and they put a poster up on their noticeboard. There is a covered area in the garden at the back of the pub by the wood where dogs are welcome. I'm pleased to hear there has been a reported sighting of Tom on Tuesday, lets hope there are new sightings soon. Diane xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone out there - how can I thank you all for everything you do and have done. This Saturday and Sunday we are coming to Telford and there is another lady Jo Stafford from Greyhounds in Need who is also coming to Telford and we are hoping for a few more to really pan the area, Jo suggested using a map and doing a circumference search!! Anyway I will bring lots of goodies, but the main thing is Tom knows us and our voice and my grey Fern, so he may respond if he is at all close. Victoria, my mentor in Ireland sent me a link to the GAP forum and there was Tom in full colour, and it just made feel so bereft and sad. Also i am ringing keelah tomorrow - the media lady - as Tom's story may be an interesting one. If anyone can suggest stuff to bring with me apart from the obvious ones like food, scent bottles etc. could you let me know. An d special thanks to Cadbury and Diane B for their monumental efforts, it has given me a more positive approach. Fingers crossed for a sighting soon. Sue CLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bev (another Gapper) and i went over there this morning and put up 15 posters around the Greyhound Interchange, (big traffic island by Reynolds Drive) bus shelters, local shops and businesses also Donnington Police Station. We then walked through the entire length of the wood which Tom bolted into, but there was no sign of him. This evening I went back again and met Nicky (Cadbury) who had been postering some more. We covered Oakengates town centre, including the Vets, Pet Shops, pubs, takeaways and Railway Station. In total we have put up about 45 posters today, so really hoping for a sighting now. Hilbrae Kennels tell me they are the official pound for all of Telford and Newport area Nicky. I emailed them a poster on Monday and they replied so are aware of Tom. They said any dogs picked up by the DW or police would go to them. I also sent a poster to Dogs Trust and she said she would send to Roden branch but it would be good to know they've received it. T42 is a bit of a mystery I think. I've googled it and come up with a company in Ballymena!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Tom is a lurcher who had been living semi feral in Ireland for quite some time. He went to a foster home in Runcorn Cheshire, in Sept and had come on in leaps and bounds. He was rehomed last Tues in Oakengates, Telford, Shropshire, the homing wasn't working out and this morning (Monday) the decision was made to return him to his fosterers. As he was being lead out to the car, he backed out of his collar and bolted for some woodlands. His fosterers, Sue and Keith are frantic, not least because they live a good way away and desperately need help with putting up of posters and posters through doors etc and for people in the area to keep an eye out for him Sue and Keith can be contacted on 01928 714558 or 07931 674161, if you can help, or you have a sighting of him, they would be delighted to hear from you Thank you.......e mail from owners friend.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poor boy. This is so much like my Merlins story...feral for ages then fostered by me, escaped, caught and escaped again. They just don't know when they're well off! I have got my 3 lurchers in martingale greyhound collars now which stop them pulling their little pin heads out when they panic or see something worthy of chasing. Hope to see Tom in the blue again soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone out there, can anyone around Oakengates, Reynolds Drive, Telford, put up some posters as we are in Runcorn, Cheshire. As you all know this is the second time Tom has escaped - he was rehomed last Tuesday, sadly it didn't work out and the lady was bringing him back to us this morning when he slipped his collar and ran off into woodland 500 yards from her house. He is chipped. Keith and I are foster parents for the Greyhound Rescue Shropshire and Borders, and Tom does have some behavioural problems, but he is very, very gentle but as you can appreciate, he is also very street-wise, being used to living outside for 4 years from his time in Ireland. He does have a very good bond with us and our greyhound, and did give himself up to us very willingly after four days, so could everyone be alert, and ring us anytime and I will get to Telford if he is sighted. Tom may hide in the day and come out at night, but we intend to go down and leave some scent trails etc. After all the heartache Tom has had to endure going missing now is the last thing he will need. Please help us find him. Thanks - you are all amazing - Sue and Keith Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If we have missed any thanks you - I am sorry. Words cannot describe the joy we felt today, after the lows from last week. We really thought Tom had reverted to his feral ways, but he was so ready to come to us that he took us by suprise, so this four weeks he has been in our care, must have had some impact on him. He came in to the house, tail wagging and straight into his favourite basket. What an amazing charity this is, Victoria in Ireland (from the Charity Tom originates from - Shopshire & Borders Retired Greyhound Trust, is so relieved too, as she has been so instrumental in Tom's rescue from there - and 'her charges' are all extremely important to her, that she was so relieved when I spoke to her today. sue_keith welcome on board DL and thanks for updating us. Keep putting the food out for him as he may well return, he could possibly be in the woods not far from your home. As we discussed look at a few of the other dogs now in the blue (reunited) for advice on what to do if you see him etc i.e. Rambo, Fable, Cloe and Whisp (who was not far from yourselves). These are brilliant success stories. Once the posters have been circulated you may start getting sightings of him. You both do a brilliant job in what you do to help these dogs find loving homes and it is not your fault he has escaped. Please keep us updated on any sightings or where has been posted etc. Jan xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We are (or were) Tom's foster parents. We foster for a Charity - Shropshire & Borders Retired Greyhounds - a subsidiary of the Registered Greyhound Trust. This charity also takes lurchers, salukis, any sighthounds etc too, and we funraise for the non-greys. Tom could never be considered where he was in Ireland for rehoming, as it is not a great rehoming centre. The whole plan for Tom was that he be socialised into a home setting and then found a home. Tom is more a saluki cross and has definite saluki traits. I think if we'd have had him another few weeks, the penny may have ped that a home setting is "good". We think the operation on the day he escaped unsettled him and he just made a dash for it. Our worry is that his mouth will become infected (he had stiches) and was due to start antibiotics on the Friday!!!! We did a funraisers for Shropshire & Borders yesterday at our local pet supermarket and gave out loads of flyers and posted them about. We have made a large poster too before we got the flyers, and Radio Merseyside put out an appeal within five minutes of us ringing them. Thanks to you all for your messages of support, we feel more "responsible" because he was "on loan" - if you like to us and it is a great responsibility. Sue and keithLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoken to owner they have only had him for three weeks so Tom does not know the area. Missing from house, he had not long returned from vets and has just had a tooth out so he needs antibiotics. Owner thinks he may have returned home last night and is leaving food out for him. Halton DW and Police have been informed. Tom is a rescue dog from Ireland. Owner said they will register and update us. Jan xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As soon as Admin receives a photograph, the poster will be emailed out to helpers. Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Tom well. Stay safe Tom. until you are home x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
