‘Distraught’ family offering £500 reward for return of lost parrot Alfie
A MAN is offering £500, no questions asked, for the safe return of his beloved parrot Alfie after he 'flew off' on Christmas Eve.
Adam Saye, 30, from Capron Road in Leagrave, said the festive period was ruined this year after the African Grey Parrot got frightened and escaped.
Adam, who lives with his mother, told BoS: "We heard a bang that startled Alfie on Christmas Eve and he flew off and somehow got out of the house.
"I don't believe in caging animals so Alfie has always roamed the house free, but he has never disappeared like this.
"We haven't been able to celebrate Christmas this year, we are so distraught that he has gone."
Alfie has lived with the pair for more than a decade, growing up in the Leagrave home from a tiny baby.
Adam added: "I have had him since he was only a couple of weeks old and he is not just a pet, he is member of the family.
"He is so intelligent, so bubbly and always such a chatterbox.
"He can speak in full sentences and you can have a real and complete conversation with him. He is not your everyday bird.
"We miss him dearly and are desperate to get him home."
Adam has distributed almost 1,000 leaflets and posters calling for Alfie's return.
But he fears someone may have taken him.
He said: "These kinds of birds are not really built for flying.
"Their muscles can't really get them that far so he must have landed locally.
"I feel someone may have picked him up and taken him and I am just appealing to anyone who knows anything to let us know and anyone who may have him to return him to us.
"We are offering £500 cash, no questions asked, just so long as we can get him home.
"I don't care about the money, I care about Alfie."
If you have seen Alfie call Adam on 07958 388715.
Adam added: "2017 has been such a hard year already so I hope someone can help us get Alfie back and turn our lives back around."

- Dear All
No news of Alfie.
Had a phone call telling me he was scared off from a garden in Beechwood Road Luton LU4....not sure how true this is.
Some people telling me they have seen him in the woods behind high rise flats in Marsh Farm. Again I don't know how true this is.
There was an article on Alfie on page 6 in the paper Bedfordshire on Sunday. I have contacted many schools to also put out something in their newsletter.
I think someone has him. I just hope he is returned to me safely. - 2017-01-09 15:32 Baydogs
- Any news Adam? Has Alfie been seen anywhere?
Certainly a substantial reward available for him. - 2017-01-04 21:32 AS
- He was in last weeks local newspaper.
I will put another article in next week with the local paper highlighting the £500 cash reward.
Thank you. - 2017-01-04 21:29 Baydogs
- So sorry that Alfie is still missing Adam.
We done for getting a radio interview. Perhaps your local paper would do an article as well?
I have never owned a parrot but it was suggested somewhere else that if they go missing to boil up some corn in the cob and leave it in the garden as they can smell it.
Would that be good advice nicolapicola? - 2017-01-04 20:52 AS
- Dear All
Please Click this video of Alfie.

I have contacted all my local schools to put a poster in their newsletter this week.
I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Please share everywhere.

- I am so sorry to hear this - I am a parrot-owner too. If you haven't already, get out there and poster EVERYWHERE - go in all the shops/pubs/schools etc and ask everyone to look out/listen out for Alfie. Early morning (sunrise)is a good time to hear him or hear birds making a fuss about him. Go out on your bike/by foot, whatever and walk the streets telling everyone and listening and looking out for him. I do wish you the best of luck and hope he is spotted and rescued soon.

- Dear All
I am thinking someone has already found him and they are keeping him! John Hayward who is a Parrot expert told me African Greys are not really flyers and he must be within 2-3 miles of my house.
I have contacted all Vets in the area, the RSPCA and the Wildlife Rescue in Houghton Regis. - 2017-01-02 21:43 AS
- Dear Jayne
Could you please add that my Alfie is 10 years old.
Also please can you change the pics around where the Extra Image is the main image and the main image is the extra image.
Thank you so much. - 2017-01-02 21:40 AS
