Sue
It has been a hectic day. Got a call this morning at 9.45am from 2 friends of the guy who sighted him on Thursday pm. From speaking to them, they knew the area well. They had spotted him Friday pm in a field next to the Thursday night sighting. No sighting on Saturday, but this morning there he was. One chap telephoned us immediately. We were over there straight away but he was gone by the time we got there. He had approached the man fairly closely but he then took off again. The first man was taking me up this track to show me where he thought he was hiding, whilst the 2nd man was saying good bye and leaving and my husband was getting his wellies on by our car and said to me he would catch me up in a minute. Anyway the first man and myself were carrying on and we were talking when the first man's phone rang. He said to me its your husband, he has got Paddy. We then rushed back down the lane again to see Paddy in the car. Apparently, the 2nd man who had said good bye had gone down another lane and saw Paddy in another field. When he saw the 2nd man get out of his car Paddy headed straight over to where my husband was still putting on his boots. 2nd man phoned my husband and said he is coming directly to you now. Terry looked over and sure enough there he was. My husband called him and Paddy just rushed over to him, so excited, tail wagging. All my husband wanted to do was get him in the car which obviously he did as quickly as possible. Yes, he did still have his muzzle on.
He has some sore places on the top of his nose and his actual nose is red on one side and a small sore place under his bottom jaw. He is obviously thin. He has been to the vets and been checked over - not dehydrated and has lost about 4k in weight. He has some cream for the top of his nose. He has eaten, but about 3 hours later he brought it back up again. He has since had some rice and he has been ok. I shall feed him little and often. Thank you for all your messages.
Nina
So pleased for you at this wonderful outcome. You must be over the moon, I have been following your page as I was so concerned about the muzzle preventing him to drink or eat. This has made my day, keep safe now Paddy xLast edited: 2017-01-08 17:49:41 by Nina

Sue - I have watched your search for Paddy since he first went missing - it is so frustrating when a dog like Paddy goes to ground and is rarely seen - will you please pass my thanks to the folk who spotted him on Thursday and again this morning, who alerted you and did not chase him - patience paid off. Welcome home Paddy - lots of cuddles now.
Mary
Reading through I can see there has been a little confusion with there being two Sues - Sue(the owner) and sue (the helper). Clearly you are both caring and lovely people.

Hi Sue please don't give up hope or stop posting. The comments on here are not meant in anyway malicious or to offend you its just dog loving people feeling just some of the pain that you must be going through. I have only been alerted to Paddy's plight because I asked for doglost dog alerts in my area to be emailed to me because dogs have been a part of my family all my life and I can imagine your pain. I can help you in many ways and am happy to do so.This morning I went out alone in my car just before dawn. I have just got back.I drove over to the bmx site via Ford road and over the Thanet way. Firstly I realised that Paddy could have easily gone over the Thanet way its not far and could be around the farmers fields there. I am going over there in a mo and will alert dog walkers of paddy's plight, I will also print out some of the posters at work tomorrow and put them up over this side.I did see quite a lot of them your side still in place.I was shocked at the shear size of the dog walking area around the bmx site! you can walk for miles and this is not good when searching, but I still feel that Paddy may well make his way back there and there are loads of dog walkers. I spoke to about six when it got light and updated them. But I had a long and very quiet walk around. I was amazed at the amount of cyclists around and spoke to a few whist driving and stopping on a circular route around broomfield, marshside Reynolds farm etc. They were very helpful and I will be contacting some cycling groups to be on the lookout after all they also cover miles and have a great view. Just a shame that I could not have done it yesterday. I took with me Rays chicken broth and a container just in case and I must say that every dog wanted some! My friend from Essex who is a long distance walker, knows this area well and has a fabulous sense of direction has agreed to come today and we will walk the area later on probably after dark and look for signs and I think I should leave some chicken broth at the bmx site again after dark just in case ? , if foxes eat it they will also enjoy. If we could get hold of some night vision binoculars they would be a great help, as you say night time can be key and not all of us can walk around at night. Please keep your chin up Sue, wish me luck this afternoon and evening and with a little bit of luck thrown in we may get a sighting of Paddy.x ps the house near to the bmx has dogs barking has anyone been there to ask them to look out they have outbuildings and shelter which Paddy may go to on hearing other dogs? just a thought.

Oh bless him. Do hope to read good news soon. xx
Sue
Thank you Julie H. I have researched the muzzle and he can drink from it and you can feed him with it on. It may be a little difficult to get food from the ground but it can be done. He can also bark with it on. It is a basket type muzzle. We are of the opinion, he has got it off although it is looped through his collar so it will be dangling down. If you have read by latest post I can see that the dangling muzzle will also be a point which those unhelpful people will comment on by saying the muzzle will catch on some tree branch or something and he will be strangled. You just cannot win with some people. But thank you for your concerns.
Sue
Woke up this morning to read some less than helpful comments. I do not need reminding of Paddy's plight and the terrible time he is having. My imagination is already fuelled to the brim and to then be accussed of not doing enough or the right thing or not doing this or that is of no help to me. Of course you have to remember that we have had New Year and of course we have been celebrating without a thought for our dog and only now I have decided maybe I should do something. Really. Some may think it has been slow from the start - I don't think so. I am not messaging a moment by moment account of what we have done every day since he has been missing. There has been notification to ALL rescue centres, vets, etc in a 30 mile radius of here. Until I got a sighting, there was not a lot we could do in the way of searching. I don't understand Facebook too much. But I can assure you that at least 100 people who we know have put it on facebook and it has been shared by those 100 another 300 times. I cannot make Paddy come out and be seen. The time of the year does not help, being dark, people are not out an about as they are in the spring. Yes he would recognise some of the area beside the BMX track. I would say that if he is still at Marshside, he is about 1/2 miles from the BMX track. We are both OAP's and my husband does not does not always enjoy good health. We do not know anybody who has a camera to set up. I do not have a team of folk who would be able to sit at Marshside 24/7 for however long it takes. If he is still there. There is no further news at the moment. If I continue to post on here. I am thoroughly upset and I expect I shall get some bad comments about that - only thinking of myself and not my dog.
JulieH
Really hoping for good news for you.Can I ask what type of muzzle he is wearing? If its a cage type like sighthounds wear I can only try and reassure you that they can drink and eat through them,my own rescue lurcher still manages to pick up discarded food when out, much to my annoyance! Good luck and fingers crossed x
Georgy Porgy
Please sue rather than wait to be asked by the owner will you do what is needed? As you say it is past time to be worried about upsetting anybody, this is more important. Unfortunately l live about 200 miles away so can't be there but checking in regularily hoping for good news. This has been slow to take off from the start.
sue
God help him poor dog he really hasn't got time for "the long Haul" if his muzzle is on and he cant find small food or is injured.8 days is so long to be running loose and out in freezing conditions. Reading his story he has obviously had the most terrible time and deserves more than this. Without a sighting he could be anywhere and well away from any food or drink left for him. He is now living wild with his only form of defence and nourishment taken from him. It really is a desperate situation. Sue you need to forget about who you may disturb/annoy or where you may trespass and concentrate on where you think he may be and get all the help available to secure another sighting. You could walk for weeks with your dogs and be going in the opposite direction and no sighting will just drag you down more and more. He could also be so close but laying low exhausted. I wonder would he recognise his local area if he managed to get back in the night? or has he always been taken out by car? You have given him a loving home with companions which I am sure he would try to get back to. Even dumped gypsy dogs keep returning to the last place they know even though they have only lived there a short while,(I have rescued and rehomed 3 of these). As I said I have been available and waiting for instructions all day and evening, I will happily give you my full name/address and if required references to ensure that I am only interested in Paddy's safety. Surely it is time to scream for help from rescue centres/local media/rspca/dogs trust volunteers etc.all of which can be done by someone coordinating while you search. and yes Ray if he is willing. I appreciate that you probably don't want to flood the area with manic people shouting and scaring Paddy but there are an awful lot of caring sensible people who I am sure would do anything to help at this critical stage quietly searching for sightings. I know having read Paddy's plight I cannot stop thinking of him and where he may be so you must all be drained by now. One sighting that's all and constant available contact day or night. I wish you well and success and pray that Paddy is indeed curled up in the barn full of straw and at least warm tonight. Ps I have looked on facebook and have had a struggle to find details of Paddy maybe it needs re-posting ?
ClaireC
Sue and others when sharing please ask for sightings only to be phoned in and for people not to chase. Collies, if anyone has ever owned one are exceptionally noise sensitive and will pick up noises 12 miles away! Thats why they are working dogs and find sheep in snow drifts! Ray,I know, will be checking on this page for updates. He would need sightings but a regular feeding station set up and once established will introduce a trap. My gut feeling is that even a frightened, timid dog will eventually come out in order to find food. Frustrating as it is sightings are what is needed at this stage. Sue, we will continue to look in the area and share on Facebook etc to keep his photo in people's minds in the hope someone spots him, follows him and alerts you. Come on Paddy let someone get you home where you can be safe and warm

Georgy Porgy
Please don't lose hope. Keep doing what you're doing. I really feel for you. Perhaps Ray can give more guidance? Or anyone else with experience of finding elusive dogs. It is a very urgent situation.
Baydogs
Hello Sue. I'm sorry that Paddy is still missing and that you are having such a frustrating time without further sightings.

If you think he is only coming out at night, do you know of anyone who has any thermal cameras (trailcams) that you can borrow? If you could get permission to place these around the field he was last seen in, and put food plus your own human scent on the ground near each one(have you been told how to do this?) that might make him come close enough to a camera to get a sighting for you to recognise and then for Ray to work on. If a lead makes him feel safe that too could be used near one of the cameras.

With a good picture of him you'd also be able to establish if his muzzle is still on or not. Or whether it is a fox eating your food etc.

This way you don't have to walk through someone's property at night- you set up the cameras and check them in daylight.

Is there anyone in Sue's area that could lend her some cameras.....?
Sue
Update this evening. No news. Been to the house in Marshwide where last sighting was in the early hours of Friday morning 4 times today. Tied various pieces of bedding to the fence posts around the field he was last seen in. Have put some food down. Again the field he was seen in is totally bare of trees, buildings, etc it is just a vast expanse of open flat land all around. The actual lane where the houses are, have lots of outbuildings and places to hide in but other than that it is just wide open spaces. There have been no sightings at all. If it was not for the chap who was in one of the fields that night we would not have a sighting. I don't think it is coming out in the daytime otherwise he would have been spotted somewhere. He is only coming out at night I think. Paddy is not your average dog. He has lived his life in kennels, we have had him about 6 months and he is totally happy and relaxed with us - over time he has grown to trust and socialise with the folk we meet on our doggie walks but he will not socialise with any other human at all. Any friends or members of our family who come to visit, he is absolutley petrified and barks and just runs away to the farthest place he can go away from them. even if they visit every day, he is not having any of it. He is better when he is out. I think he has claimed the house as his home and territory and he does not like it being infiltrated by other humans. Absolutely no problems with other dogs. He likes them and likes to play and run with them. I cannot see him going up to anyone. Strangely enough, if you put him on a collar and lead he is fine with other people. If I know someone is visiting I put his collar and lead on and somehow it seems to have some calming influence on him and we don't have all the barking and going skitty and trying to hide. I don't even have to hold the lead. Unless we get some more sightings, either in the same vicinity or somewhere new we don't stand any chance. If he stays in fields,it sounds good that he is not on the road, but to me its worse, nobody is walking through fields, people are walking on payments or roads, in houses and gardens. He will be keeping well away from any humans. I have got to be 100% sure he is in a particular place before I would even ask Ray to come over. I think this is going to be a long haul. I have looked up on the internet about the muzzle he has and it says the dog can drink and be fed with the muzzle on. Indeed I could see how he can drink with it on no problem and you can feed him food through the muzzle. We have done it. It would be necessary for him to push the muzzle to the ground for the food to get into the basket. He can certainly bark with the muzzle on.
Juls
Come on paddy , time to go home , hope have a sighting soon take care sue sending you best wishes x x

Thankyou bdurrant :-) just found a tin of smelly mackeral in the cupboard and an old heavy cast iron saucepan which wont tip the broth over so just waiting for a very happy update or instructions. Just love dogs and cant bear the thought of any animal in distress with no help, the rest is just a challenge to be conkered. And yes I do bloody hope the muzzle has come off without serious harm.
bdurrant
You sound like a very wonderful lady,Sue,if I luved near I'd sit in the car as well watching,do try mackrel,a few tins the smell is very piwerful,so even if he might not be able to eat it,it will lead him to the chicken soup.Ikeep checking this post for updates and really feel for you and having my fingers crossed that if not,Ray will come and help.Best of luck you will get him with the soup and jumper, rub it all over your body,to get a good scent.I have a feeling you will be successful, god if the muzzle is still on,I bloody hope so
sue
morning Sue. I hope no news is good news. reading your post, at least fields are safer than roads. I have tried to download maps of the area and footpaths and will print them out. Ref the big houses if you text me the addresses I could visit and ask permission for you or ask if they have seen Paddy and if there is public access to the fields, sometimes there is a footpath that is public but is not used so overgrown and hard to find. These people may be unaware of Paddy's plight and very willing to help, they can only say no to the temporary intrusion but that would be very heartless and I can be very persuasive. You must all be exhausted and with people free at the weekend I hope you have had lots of offers of help. I have made some chicken broth as I am sure the more the merrier a great bit of advise from Ray, I have also added some plain rice, easy on a deli belly and carbs. If its not needed no probs. the local wildlife will love it. Spoke to a friend who has worked in rescue for years and he agrees that a cage may be the best option for a frantic dog with observers to watch over. If you wish I can phone round and see if I can borrow one (free landline calls). As I said I am available certainly over the weekend 24/7 and can sit and watch from my car anywhere you set up a food station or sighting spot.maybe with the good tip from bdurrant something smelly of paddy's, yours or your dogs.Just call or text good luck hope its today!
bdurrant
Oh god I know, lol, just tried to expkain with the not calling name, lol and mine was only gone for a day,yet twice he bolted as soon as we called him, literally running as if someone was chasing him
ClaireC
Wish they were all that easy!
bdurrant
Yes this no name calling and no eye contact paid off when mine went missing. No torches either.I just sat in the car all night with his blanket and my jumper on the floor and a tin of mackrel,I'd put soup there and mackrel for the smell,he came out of hiding and the min we called him he legged it,An hour later he came back,i opened the car door no eye contact just sat still and he put his head on my lap.
ClaireC
Thanks Ray. Sometimes dogs think they are in trouble by calling their name!Last edited: 2017-01-07 08:49:44 by ClaireC
Sue
Thank you Ray for your advice. I wonder why we should not call his name, how strange. We will go over with a container and soup. Praise the Lord.
Sue
No further news as yet overnight. We will be over at the sighting this morning. The trouble is he seems to keep to the fields. Where he is at the moment there are houses, big places, set in their own grounds and we cannot find any access to the fields behind these properties, our only hope is going to the chap who rang us and we will have to rely on him to put food out etc. Although he said we could come up at any time, I find it very difficult to just start walking through someones garden and grounds to get to their field behind especially when its dark. Its pitch black out there. He and his wife are my only chance of setting up a food station. We will speak to them when we go over this morning.
bdurrant
What a brilliant adise,Ray,as always,you are a true star
RAYDEDICOAT
I,m not sure if a feed patternstation has been set up but we found we kept a greyhound going for 11 days on CHICKEN soup which gets through a muzzle easy enough. we put it in a very heavy container like a pressure cooker.if a pattern has been set up i can loan a good sized cage trap. or i can get over monday.. its a long journey, so if a pattern does appear i will get over there Ray.. please remember the worst thing you can do is to call PADDY by his name.why this is so, i will never know.keep DOG LOST UP TO DATE.. THANKS
sue
no problem be glad to help. The more the better at this stage and may be able to pin him down. speak to you tomorrow but willing him is home tonight!
Sue
A sighting to see if he still has his muzzle on or off will be most helpful. Even if the muzzle is off, it is attached to a collar so it will be dangling down.
Sue
Following my post of this morning saying a man contacted me last night. We were out again this morning and decided to check out the barn which we saw last night. We decided to go up the drive to see if we could see someone to ask if we could leave food and some bedding there. We came across a house and after knocking on the door a lovely chap came out and when I started to say about our lost dog, he said to me, your the lady I rang last night. What a coinsidence, I had knocked on the door of the man who rang me last night. Anyway, he told me his wife was concerned about Paddy and was already out on her horse with some other folk looking for him. Long story short, we are keeping in touch with him and taking some bedding and food over there. He and a friend will be out tonight looking for him. Tomorrow a friend has a drone which he is going to fly over the area to see if he can spot him. Unfortunately, the camera does not have night vision, so he can only fly it in the daylight. Sue, I will call you tomorrow if you are able to sit in your car for an hour or so - I think it will have to be when its dark - the sightings have only been in the dark. I have got number. Thank you

Poor Paddy after this length of time he must be getting desperate, exhausted, starving and his paws will possibly be blistered and cut from constant running and trying to get his muzzle off which my sighthounds never ever managed and would not try to eat or drink with it on. The Baskerville type. Please ask for help, he needs it. Your obviously looking yourselves but maybe others could sit quietly in cars or quietly walk in the area he was lost or sighting areas and alert you on sight especially over the w/end when people have more time. I am sure people will help. I live in Beltinge so near and will happily sit in my car for a few hours day or night this w/end anywhere you think may help spot him. I know if my dog was in this state I would be beside myself by now. just call or text from your listed mobile numbers to sue 07931174144. Really wish you find him soon.
Seeks
Sue your doing all you can.

Maybe he got the muzzle off? Folk tend to notice them & my hideous foster dog has got out of any muzzle he has tried if unattended for even a five min drive. Perhaps Paddy is as clever?

You hang in there and I am sure he will be fine. He just needs to stop panicking and running but someone may have chased after him to try and catch him? Keep doing what your doing and will up date my shares with the latest sighting xx
Juls
Really wish you find him soon , watching posts wish was nearer to help x x
Misha
We used local radio stations to help us as they have missing pet slots and luckily a delivery driver heard this so we were able to narrow down our search and we found our boy at 5am the following morning. Not where we expected him to be at all so may be worth a try. Thinking of you and best of luck from Cornwall x
ClaireC
I have alerted Ray to this one.
ClaireC
Try using a very smelly Tripe trail. This is what RayD uses. I will alert Ray to this missing dog and feel.sure he will offer some sound advice to you. He is the best man to advise you.
Sue
Incidentally, I did ask the chap on the phone whether he noticed if Paddy still had his muzzle on, but he did not know. It was all over in a flash. To add also, on the other side of the lane is a stream running, so there is water about.
Sue
As you can see - bdurrant - we are doing something.
Sue
We had a phone call at 11.20pm last night 5.1.17. from a chap who sighted Paddy at that very moment. He was in Marshside just the next village on from Broomfield where we live and very near to the first sighting on 1.1.17. Apparently Paddy run past him at speed and was heading towards a village called 'The Gate' but when this chap saw him it was at a pub called the Hog and Donkey. The pub does not exist anymore it is a private house, but everyone refers to the pub as a reference point because it was so well known in local circles anyway. The road itself is no more than a lane, in places no two cars can pass together, one would have to stop. We spent an hour or so last night calling etc etc but nothing. Interestingly, there is a barn right on the roadside, it just has a roof and 4 corner posts but it is stacked with straw/hay. I am hoping he may be sleeping there. We are going to try and make it a feeding station. We shall drive up there with our other dogs, walk the dogs up the lane and back to the feeding point and then put the dogs in the car, then their scent will always bring him back to the feeding station. Thank you to everyone for your concerns. Please continue to facebook and do we have anyone who lives in Marshside following this post.
bdurrant
I really feel this search needs to stepped up,looks to me like not very much has been done,I am so shocked really.what are the owners doing? It would drive me stir crazy knowing my dog is out there a whole week slowly dying!!!!I have trouble thinking about itGood help this poor baby
sue
By the way we used some lovely smelling hotroast chicken late evening when quiet and she came in on the first attempt.

Has there been any more sighting? If he is staying in the same area a baited cage may help. Wild animal rescue centre's have them such as the South Essex Wildlife in Thurrock near Grays. Or try local ones. We succeeded with one catching a very frightened lost dog this way. Obviously they have to be watched but I am sure lots of lovely people would volunteer. Hope you find this poor dog,so distressing.

Paddy was seen on Sunday 1st Jan 2017 by a family returning home, in a field which does have horses in behind the log small holding that sells logs and duck eggs etc just beyond the BMX track I think towards Marshside. Not sure of the name of the road but will find out.
