- I HAVEN’T LEFT AT ALL
I saw you gently weeping as you looked through photographs
You paused for just a moment at one that made you laugh.
But as you turned more pages the tears began to flow
You whispered that you missed me but I want you to know;
I softly licked those stinging tears that down your cheeks did fall
I want to help you understand I haven’t left at all.
On those days that you are overcome with sorrow, pain and grief
I rest my head upon your leg to offer some relief.
When you take our walking path I’ve seen you turn around
Because I know you surely heard my paws upon the ground.
At night while you are sleeping I snuggle at your side
You stroke my fur as you touch that place where I used to lie.
You said it’s just your heart playing tricks upon your mind
But rest assured I’m really there, my spirit’s left behind.
I know your heart is hurting; it’s like an open sore
You think my life has ended and you won’t see me anymore.
But for those of us bound tight by love, death is not the curtain call;
It’s really the eternal beginning that waits for us all - 2017-01-14 17:20 JANI

- Charlotte, I know that you are in a great deal of pain right now ; this is such a tragic loss but no-one is to blame. I agree with the comments below - that after all this time it is only natural that she should be let off the lead and enjoy her freedom and a full life.
I also hope that,sometime in the future, when you are ready, another rescue dog will benefit from your love and care.
RIP Poppy, a very special and much loved girl. - 2017-01-14 15:50 Jasper - Area Volunteer, Somerset
- She was doing what all dogs should be able to do, to kick her heels up run around freely. She was adored and treasured by you, her family. What a very lucky girlie she was to be so well loved.

- I am so sorry, Charlotte. You gave her such a happy year and, having had her a year, it was quite understandable that you would think letting her off the lead occasionally would be OK. You are right, her love will always stay with you (and she wouldn't blame you or your partner - think of it that way - so try not to be so hard on yourself). - She should not have been off the lead and I am very upset. She knew her way home and unfortunately the motorway was in her way. I knew in my heart that she'd been on the motorway. I kept looking around it. But I still hoped I was wrong. She was such a special loving and beautiful friend to me. Truly devastated that she met such a scary end to her short life. She was nearly 4 years old. I'm not sure how I will get over this. Probably by helping others dogs and animals. Main roads are hell for lots of animals. I see road kill all the time but wild animals. Poppy has been taken to a vets and we will have her cremated and brought home. We are glad we know and she was found. I would never rest or stop looking for her if she hadn't been found. Roads really are hell! Nature must be protected more from them. In our case Poppy we could have stopped this by not letting her off the lead. Her last hour will haunt me. But her love will be in my heart

- Thanks to you all and to this site. Poppy was playing on the common in the snow with my partner Chris. She was a rescue dog and came from Bulgaria. We got her a year ago. She instantly was a valued member of our family. But she was still getting used to domestic life. She did tun off before and was near to home.

- Charlotte, please put on Mix 96 website, couple of posters into Royal Mail postbox as posties take back with them and display in their sorting office for others to see. Also give posters into florists and estate agents as they go out and about. Keep going back to area lost in as lots of dogs go back to where lost from. Inform Stokenchurch Dof Rescue and also Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.Last edited: 2017-01-13 17:59:24 by ClaireC
