The saddest update from Charlie's mum posted in the last hour:
Dear all,
We are devastated to have to tell you that Charlie’s body was recovered from the rail track outside Dorridge station today; so very near to home. He had been found by rail workers on Monday, reported internally, and we were notified earlier today.
He has been positively identified by his microchip number and taken to our local vet for cremation.
As you can imagine, we are heartbroken by this, but felt the need to communicate with you as soon as possible. The help we have received from you has been inspirational and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Could we ask for one last favour though, which is to take down any posters you come across?
Thank you again for your help and support – goodnight Charlie boy.xxx
Maggie
Professional tracker will be working with Charlie's family.
Please keep looking and sharing with everyone.
Charlie's team are overwhelmed by the support they are getting and are so very grateful for the help and support.
Positive prayers for Charlie's return home this week please.
Maggie
Come on Charlie, home time.

SIGHTING!!!! Just picked up from Charlie's facebook page this evening:
Arbor Tree Lane sighting is genuine. We have left food and searched.between Warwick Road and Rising Lane but no luck. Will try again in the morning. We've checked with owners of Livery yard opposite and it wasn't their dog.So could any walkers concentrate their searches on an area wirhin a radius of 3 miles. Please bear with us - we're reacting to circumstances - never done anything like this before. THANK YOU for your continued support.
Maggie
Covered in local papers and on radio. However attempts to get on Midlands Today for TV coverage have failed (not news worthy enough and there are too many lost each week!!). If anyone can pull strings at Midlands today to get Charlie a mention we will be eternally grateful.
Maggie
Primarily with the help of the flatcoat community we have set up a group to check all major online dog/puppy sale sites twice a day. Also a paid feed has been put on facebook promoting his lost poster.
Tomorrow we will be identifying on-line sales sites in Southern Ireland because gundogs have apparently been stolen and sold in southern Ireland.
Work continues behind the scenes advertising and searching for Charlie.
csquaredb
Thank you

Here is a comprehensive update from Charlie's family, posted today:
Dear all,
Firstly, we cannot begin to thank everyone enough for all the help and support that has been offered. We have had extensive local press coverage, Radio WM coverage and a complete blitz on social media. This is all down to your efforts, and we are humbled by your continued support.
We had a lot of professional help last week, but unfortunately there is no consensus on what has happened. We need to bear in mind that Charlie is a gregarious dog who loves company (human and dog) so should have sought it out. However, he is only 7 months old, not street wise and over time, will have become frightened. Nevertheless, it remains a mystery why he was not sighted in the days immediately after his disappearance.
So, we are taking forward several scenarios.
1. Charlie walked into the local urban area and was taken in by someone close by in a kindly gesture who doesn’t “do” social media – possibly an older person who lives alone. We have leafleted extensively here and have been told to look out for Charlie “hiding in plain sight” i.e being walked on a lead by whoever has taken him – please be aware that there are some flattie owners nearby and we don’t want to alienate them. So please be on the lookout for such a dog, photo if possible and report.
2. Charlie has been stolen. We have shared with the Flat Coat Society who are looking for sell on possibilities but we also need to keep an eye on dog sale sights such as Gumtree, etc.
3. Charlie has stayed close to the area he knows, i.e. Dorridge Park and surrounds, but has not appeared in daylight hours as he is now nervous and frightened, so we must continue to patrol the area, look out for lone dogs or signs that he may be nearby.
4. Charlie has strayed further afield. Likely routes are east via Darley Green, west via Dorridge cricket club and south via Millpool Lane. From here, likely routes are canal towpaths, rail lines, minor roads and footpaths i.e. lines of least resistance. In this scenario, we are looking for places of shelter: outbuildings, barns, stables, sheds etc. where he may be sheltering. Also, outbuildings / barns where hard food for sheep, cattle etc may be stored which he may stay close to.
Please see Google maps for detail. Thank you again for any continuing support you are able to provide.

Thanks Alison

I'm constantly sending prayers up for this lad and have everything crossed for safe reunion and very soon xx
Maggie
Charlie's mum and dad have had another hectic day searching for Charlie, with lots of help from volunteers.
Search dogs were used today, but no positive result.
There have been a couple of sightings.
Mom and dad are currently working out their strategy for the next few days.
Please continue to share Charlie's poster and pray for his safe return.
Come on Charlie, things are looking more positive. It's time to come home.
Ruth
Maggie, it depends how big their triangle is, they might take a day to cover one side of a triangle or it could take them several days. It's difficult to know when he might return to a certain point until you have his triangle identified. I posted this morning on his Facebook page about identifying funnel points and in the comments added information from a blog about using maps to help the search. I'll tag you in it, so you can read it.
Maggie
Lots of activity today postering and searching. I'll update more later.
BUT does anyone know the answer to my question below regarding triangulation and how frequently they return to the different points of the triangle??
Ellie
Can Admin please bump Charlie's page due to recent sighting? Owners are taking all advice and doing everything they can to bring their puppy home. Also any additional email alerts please Last edited: 2017-01-20 23:37:53 by Ellie

Fantastic - what with all that effort and two possible sightings close to each other in last couple of days I think and hope Charlie will be home soon. Keeping everything crossed xx
Maggie
Question to admin experts: when a dog triangulates does he spend one night at each point? So if he was spotted at Dorridge Park Wednesday night, Finswood Barn Thursday night, ?????tonight (Friday) will he be back to Dorridge tomorrow. Or do they not move on a daily basis??
Maggie
I've agreed to update the doglost site because Charlie's family are struggling to do everything. I went up there today to help leaflet distribution and I'm so impressed with the effort.
Every house in the area has received a flyer. There are posters everywhere. Everyone I met knew about Charlie. They have left his bed and clothing where he was last seen. They have been there at night with a barby. They have trailed an item of clothing to lay a scent. They have contacted all of the relevant people (network rail, highways etc etc). People out searching.
Maggie
Charlie's mum and dad have arranged for tracker dogs tomorrow. Not sure if it K9 tracker, but they are professional trackers.
cockerspaniellover
Come on Charlie it's time to come home now, your family love and miss you.
Is it worth getting k9 tracker involved to search the area of last two sightings to see if they can scent Charlie out ?? Just a thought xx
Maggie
This has just been posted on Charlie's facebook page:
URGENT Just had a possible sighting of Charlie. 8.30 pm Thursday 19thJan.
Outside Finswood Barn Equestrian Centre CV35 7DL. Black medium sized dog not on lead. Ran away when approached. Could anyone in the area please keep their eyes open and if you see him take photo if possible and contact us on 07767037084.
Doglost Admin - would it be possible to send alerts to people in the CV35 area? It's only a few miles from where Charlie was last seen. Could we also bump as this is the second sighting in the last couple of days.
