- Gemma, we are still searching for you, and won't turn off the heat until you are reunited with your family. A copy of your poster is now in a plastic folder at my local vets surgery on a table for clients to peruse, (TA8 Somerset). People do travel and hopefully anything that we can do to bring you home has to be worh a try. Hang on in there Gemma, it's your time for the blue zone, we are having a good success rate in the South West so please show yourself. You will be home soon, we don't give up. - Hi Kate. Still checking for news on Gemma. Have you managed to get an article in your local paper yet? Would really be worth it incase she's been taken in by someone who hasn't seen the posters. Hoping for some good news soon xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Have you asked local landowners to look in outbuildings (NFU might help here, also hunts and shoots) - and everyone to check sheds and garages. A fit spaniel can cover a lot of ground, so please don't give up yet - don't forget Suzy was missing for 6 weeks - and I'm sure Jayne told me the average time is 5 or 6 weeks. Lets hope someone has taken her in, but they need to know that you are looking for her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Kate, I've just read a posting left by Islander on 13.10.07 (Collie Cross Dog missing in PL21 - date 6.10.07) and they mention that a couple of years ago a dog was hit by a car and ran away in fright and was found SIX MILES away!! Sounds like it could be an idea to widen your search ??Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Just a thought Kate, but are there are barns or other outbuildings in the area that Gemma could possibly be hiding in? I expect she's extremely frightened right now and could just be trying to keep away from people. I expect you've already postered the area you used to live in?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi Kate. Sorry to hear Gemma is still missing, but please don't give up. Did you leave a poster at the pub near where she went missing from? What about getting her mentioned in your local paper also giving smaller posters to your local newspaper boy/girl (if you have one) to put in with each delivery - even if you have to give them a small payment for doing so, it might be worth it. If you've a school near you perhaps you could try to get the schoolchildren involved? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Edited repost from Kate W from 9.24 this morning: Thanks. She was hit up by the Royal Oak pub at Broadway (near the police station) and ran down Egford Lane really fast apparently. She knows that area (I used to live in Horton Street so we went there am and pm) and now being the other side of the valley we still use the same sort of areas. Its like looking for a needle in a haystack though. There are 3 lurchers missing in the area now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Any luck this afternoon Kate? As Gemma's been missing for a couple of days now she'll probably be feeling hungry, unless she's been taken in by someone. One thing you could try - if you've a rough idea of the area she might be hiding in - is lighting one of those small disposable barbecues and cooking a few sausages or something. This might just make her show her face and seems to have worked in the past for some of the dogs that have gone missing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi Kate. We have been keeping our fingers crossed for you - Gemma is probably lieing low if she has been hurt. It sounds like you have plenty of people looking for Gemma - and I agree, children are a good source of info - I used to hand out posters outside schools. Actually, I handed them out everywhere - you just need the lucky break. Lots of love and everything crossed Marian Alan and Suzy xxxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- That's right at the end of my road! Do you mean Egford Hill (i.e the Main road) or do you mean Egford Lane the little cut through which runs down the back of the houses to Vallis. There are some stiles along there to put posters on (sorry I have run out). Have you tried the Pig Farm at the bottom? If it was Egford Lane you could try going along Landsdown Terr (?) and postering in the playing field at the end, kids are a great source of info! Will get out there myself later.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- that would be great Keelah I will definately do that, probably at lunch time. Mendip Council have been rubbish I still haven't heard from the Dog Warden despite leaving messages on Friday and Monday. There is only one number they will let you have for anyone at Mendip, but will try to get highways though-good idea. SB, I wondered if they had her before and have been up with my posters and gone in to 2 actual sites and loads of similar places speaking to every dodgy person I can muster, but nothing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- kate - feel free to give me a ring on 07843 681980 if you want a hand trying to get some media coverage. am assuming you have done a call round of all animal hospitals and vets as a refresher in light of this news. Horrible thought but, to put your mind at rest, make sure you call the local authority highways department as well. Fingers crossed for some good news on this one and please call if you want to see if we can get a story in the papers for you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Oh Kate, I'm so sorry to hear this. If Gemma ran off though, hopefully she wasn't too badly hurt. She's probably holed up somewhere feeling absolutely terrified and may not even come if she hears your voice calling her. I think it would be a good idea not to rule out areas that have already been covered just incase. Wish I was closer so that I could help you. Keep checking local vets and also the RSPCA numbers I left for you incase someone finds her and takes her in for treatment. Good luck - I'll keep checking for updates. - hi Kate, what a worry for you............where was this last sighting of Gemma (I live in Frome and walk my dogs in this area so know it well) Strays from Mendip go to St Giles kennels near Taunton, and BANES go to Woodborough in PSJ. Thanks for the offer of the posters, but I don't have a printer either!! When I get the next lot done I might take you up on that, and will of course do the same for you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I heard some news about Gemma tonight, apparently she was knocked into the air by a car about 1 1/2 miles away from here, then she ran off really fast down the lane (on the 4th or 5th). People went off looking for her but didn't see a thing, some people were out for about 4/5 hours. It's all feilds and woods around there. Still going around houses and going looking again tomorow, if she is alive don't know how far she could have gone. The area is full of dog walkers and seems strange that no one has come across her dead or alive as usually she is really friendly with people and dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Thanks that's really helpfull. Have left messages for the dog warden and am expecting a call from her today. The quarries are a good call, there are loads around us and have only tried one so far. Did all the pubs/takeouts/corners shops in Frome last night before I spoke to you and will try to get Coleford/Holecombe and some places that way tonight so will take your poster with me. Have you got alot of posters printed? because if so and you are around this way would you like to some off with me? I don't have a printer and am borrowing everybody elses at the moment. I think initially she went wondering off (I was at work and someone else let her out) but no that she would come back if she could, she's clever and always wants to be with me so it doesn't make sense. I guess now that she has been picked up/stolen and am going along that route. How did yours go?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I have done (postered) Great Elm, both ends of the path through the quarry, from the begining (Frome) through to the pond and then the other end at Mells. Have put a poster on the board up in Great Elm, and also in the shop/Post Office at Mells. Have you spoken to the Dog Warden at Mendip? (she doesn't work on Mondays) but she is helpful, and also the vets at Garston/Vine Tree? Also try the quarry at Tor Works (on the Shepton Road) as they have a quarry line running through Great Elm to Frome. Also try Mendip Bridleways assoc as they have a bridleway through there, or at least the bit that goes onto Chantry, about the river from Great Elm. Which bit of the path did she go from? Are you sure she has run off or has she been stolen? So sorry this is happening to you too xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Gemma well. Stay safe Gemma, until you are found x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
