- Jake has now been found. I received the following update from the family.
Hello,
Just to let you know that Jake's body has been recovered today by the highways agency from the central reservation on the a404 where we were told the incident happened. It was only spotted as there was an accident on the road yesterday and cars queueing in the traffic jam saw him and reported it. There is so much rubbish and debris down that road anyway and as it was behind the barriers that's why he wasn't spotted sooner. Obviously the person who hit him just drove on. Just thought you might like to know what had happened and that this can happen. Best wishes - 2017-02-10 23:15 AlisonH

- I am very aware of what is written on fb page and posted my comment on as per post originally as set out below. One daughter is very aware of what my findings are when I spent a vast amount of my day checking out the info that was given to the owners as a result of the advert placed in the local paper both by Thames Valley Police and the other agencies as per my original post. The info given by this person who has "seen" this accident has stated that there is no body as it was embedded in the car!. I sent out teams through contacts of mine who are involved with the Highways Agency to check for any deceased dogs. They have been more than thorough in their searching for any animal. Be it the police, Highways and street cleansing there has been no fatalities found not at the time nor indeed before the date Jake disappeared. The daughter had asked me to take off the post on fb because she is happier to let her father believe this is what has happened to Jake and I did as per the request.. As time is going on then there is always the thought that Jake is deceased but not in this way and as you know we don't put to RB unless there is clear evidence which there isn't in this instance! I have left it to admin to decide whether to put to RB.Last edited: 2017-02-16 14:18:43 by ClaireC

- Doglover, I had already read the comments , thanks, but owner is sure he passed over as it is a very dangerous road and I am told it will be difficult to search .i was just enquiring if someone will contact owner. I will not as it is not my area , but am sure the relevant people will and will notify us when they are able

- Someone needs to talk to Jake's family fast as they certainly believe he went to the bridge...
My worry is a fast moving road leaves little trace of bodies at times....
I just hope a live Jake is found very soon - 2017-02-10 15:07 Unknown

- Jenny4.......from Owner on Facebook page Find Jake...
I had a call last night to tell me that Jake had been killed on the day he went missing. He was hit by a car travelling at speed on the A404 so there is no body to retrieve. The gentleman and his wife had stopped when they saw Jake to get him into their car. If he hadn't been such an independent spirit he might have been saved. Instead Jake tried crossing the road and was killed.
Jake wouldn't have suffered any pain and knowing that he hasn't suffered is a great relief to me and my family.
We would like to thank everyone who has involved themselves in the search for Jake. Your response and efforts trying to locate him have overwhelmed us. Thank you x - 2017-02-10 14:04 Unknown
- on the Find Jake on facebook it states , by the owner, that Jake was killed and it was seen by someone. Can we have confirmation one way or another please as people are leaving condolences and will stop looking if they dont know

- ClaireC, I take it you have spoken to Gary about this, as there is no notification on Jakes fb page to say otherwise, it may confuse people :(
- 2017-02-10 12:09 ClaireC
- I have spoken at great length this morning to various agencies namely the very helpful Highways Agency, Street Cleansing Dept and Thames Valley Police. There have been NO fatalities of dogs on any stretch of the A404 or surrounding areas during the time Jake went missing. The police have confirmed that on the morning of Jake's disappearance the weather conditions were exceptionally bad i.e. Freezing fog and visibility was very poor and sometimes people can be easily mistaken on what they've seen!
There was an incident of an RTA on 4 Feb but this was not Jake confirmed by no chip having been detected and not same breed!
This is sometimes the danger of placing adverts in papers that can lead folk to say this is what has happened to "your" dog without paying careful attention to dates.
As far as myself on behalf of doglost, the search for Jake continues! - 2017-02-10 11:41 Karen - Area Co-ordinator London, Home Counties & Police Liaison
- Have just read that Jake is at rainbow bridge. Unfortunately killed in RTA on night he went missing. RIP beautiful boy x
- 2017-02-10 11:32 ClaireC
- This is NOT Jake. I have now spoken to the Highways Agency, Street Cleansing Depts and the Thames Valley Police for the area and surrounding areas who have ALL confirmed that there have been no fatalities of dogs from when Jake first went missing to today's date. The search for Jake continues.

- No further news to add. With absolutely no sightings this is a real worry. There are still lots of people who are out searching but the original area from where he originally went missing from is very dense thicket area. If people are out and about please can they take a stick to poke into the thicket. Can they also look for a rounded hole, maybe with fur stuck on the branches, flattened grass etc. Binoculars if poss for peering across the open fields as well. Thank you.

- just phoned gary to see if he had left some of jakes bedding in the area - as i have learnt from doglost so often owners come back to continue search, having left some old bedding or even making a shelter too, only to find there is their beloved dog waiting for them. hope this happens for jake

- Jenny and Tiga have been out tracking this morning. Please see her comments below and if there are any local folk to this specific area can help poster it would be much appreciated. Thank you. I will try to find out if any different postcode for further alerts to be sent out.
The heavens have opened so tracking has stopped.
Please can the Altwood road, Leas road area/estate be postered. - 2017-01-29 11:14 ClaireC
- I have asked local groups to the area that whilst out walking/searching that they keep an eye on any lakes, ponds, rivers and swimming pools! As it has been so cold they would have been frozen over. Further updates later on will follow as folk are still out searching.Last edited: 2017-01-29 11:15:55 by ClaireC

Are people going out around the area lost at night perhaps with a BBQ or really smelly sausages to call as it will be quieter he will hear you better and may be tempted as hungry. Maybe just owners should go as he may be spooked with people he doesn't know xx

- A big thank you to the 15-20 people that helped to search for Jake this morning and also to all the other folk who came out this afternoon. Sadly, there is still no news to be able to tell you. I have notified most of the farms, nursing homes, golf clubs, hotels in the immediate area. Lots of people are aware of Jake and just waiting on that all important call. Hoping that Jenny and Tiga/Yogi fame will be in touch and able to come along on Sun.

- I have posted this on Jake's fb page tonight.
Gary Robson Nicky McCarthy and I have been discussing that due to the cold weather, Jake being elderly the merits of a search party for tomoro morning! If there are any folk, with their dog(s) would be able to come along please can you comment on this page. We have decided to meet on Sat 28th at 0930-0945 hrs at The Thicket Car Park nr Clare Court Ridgeway School, off Cannon Lane, Maidenhead SL6 4QQ (for Satnav purposes. Gary will be able to work out how to spread folk out in various directions etc. He is also going to put together some little treat bags suitable for dogs only folk (dont get excited!) that may be used if necessary. I believe the thicket can be quite dense so if you have anything suitable to prod into deeper parts the better! Thick boots and gloves may prove useful for you. If you do bring a dog please please can you keep on a lead, Jake may respond to perhaps another dog barking. Gary is going to give you a mobile no to ring if you find Jake. Maybe bring a spare lead just in case. I am going to post this on Jake's doglost page for others to see and maybe offer their help in addition to local folk and family. Please if you can the more eyes the better on finding this golden oldie. Thank you.Last edited: 2017-01-27 18:25:52 by ClaireC - 2017-01-27 11:52 GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland
- Seem to remember that area (Maidenhead Thicket, Pinkneys Green, Littlewick Green, Burchetts Green and surrounds) is popular horse riding area. Are there any stables that could be alerted? Riders on horseback have a good view of surroundings and may spot Jake if caught up in undergrowth.Last edited: 2017-01-27 11:55:10 by GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland

- Spoken with Gary this morning, he was out from 0500 and will be going back to A404 again. He has gone back to area where he was first lost from. Re the drone I will ask Nicky to ask Maidenhead Gossip if there is anyone local they have one and if they are allowed to use in this busy fly space area.
- 2017-01-27 08:43 Nina
- Gary do you know anyone with a drone who might be able to search the area.
- 2017-01-27 08:27 ClaireC
- Thanks Gary for the update. Hope the leaflet drop brings in some news. If you get any postcodes for areas around there let us know on here and we can send some alerts sent out to volunteers in those areas. If there are eating/fast food outets around, any postmen, delivery drivers they are all good places to offer posters to. Posters on school gates where mums wait for kids is another good place to poster. Kids are usually good for spotting a lost dog.Last edited: 2017-01-27 08:30:27 by ClaireC

- hi, My name is Gary and I am the idiot who lost Jake. I have been in touch with the Highway England Agency who said there had been a sighting of a dog on the A404 between junctions 9B (this is close to the wood I was walking with Jake) and 9A. The times of the report are very close to when I lost Jake. I have driven along the A404 and the only place where there isn't a solid fence is by the railway track. I have contacted Network Rail who said there have been no incidents involving a dog on that part of the track. The bank is very steep and if Jake had gone down it is unlikely he could get back to the road - good news. Bad news - I have driven/walked around the area. One side f the track is blocked by a security gate guarding an electruc sub station for CrossRail. The other side is a housing estate where access to the A404 is blocked by fences, garages and other constructions. Today I will be dropping flyers into the houses.

- There are several schools either side of the A404(M) at point of sighting - a quick way to spread the word would be posters at the school gates before end of school day tomorrow to get the message out to outlying areas.

- Message from owner. If there is anybody who is in this location please can they notify any of us straight away:
Ok . I have been in touch with Network Rail, who do not have any dog related incidents and Highways England who said one had been reported at the time Jake went missing. A brown and white dog was seen on the A404 between junction 9B and 9A. The timing and location is too much of a coincidence to be ignored. It's a shame that Thames Valley Police didn't have this on the system when I rang them. The police didn't find the dog when they investigated. Tomorrow I will be putting up posters around the new location. We really appreciate it. - 2017-01-26 18:42 cockerspaniellover

Does he have a squeaky toy or ball he likes or a favourite smelly treat you can shake for him? Jake had a collar with a tag on. Dense woodland so he could be caught up with his collar DW & vets have been contacted. Hopefully chip company will be contacted today. Posters are being put up & flyers to local homes. Stay safe Jake until you're found.
