Is CJ able to help get a CRN for this?
Pete Smith
Hi Mary...wish was that simple...
Loki may not have been able to get a clear scent initially because of cross contamination from my other dogs,...
I think I have made up my mind how to go ahead.
I will not drop this....
People can't just go and dispose of other people's dogs...he was an important asset and had value as a breeding dog with pedigree...

Pete, Sam and Loki have disproved the farmer's version of events, I hope you have made the police aware of that?
I'm just so sorry Shuck isn't back home, where he belongs.
Pete Smith
I think you have a very valid point there and it makes me wonder why the officers did not find it useful or possible to crime the case...I can only guess...
And will leave it at that...
The finder phoned the man, a farmer that has land adjacent to me and her...in good faith in order to see if he didn't know who the dog belonged to...she then helped him put the animal in the back of his truck...without the man volunteering who's dog it was...he also only came up with a rather unsatisfactory explanation when we found out and approached him.
Yes I feel the police failed me but it Is not advisable to say anymore...
The story has made its rounds...the reward did not stir anything...
I have a fairly good idea what happened and am considering my options.
I am very grateful for everyones input and encouragement , which has helped me a lot.Last edited: 2017-03-03 11:13:07 by Pete Smith

The bit I don't understand is this: whatever the mans stated intentions " returning dog to owner"), he surely had no right to take the dog from the finder when it was not his dog and the owner had not authorised him to get involved? If this had been a bag of money and the man had collected from the finder " to return to owner" and then "lost it" en route, would no crime have been committed?
Also, how did he know that the finder had Shuck?
At least worth plastering the area with posters and over the local FaceBook pages as local people will recognise Shuck and perhaps he will "reappear"?

Such a sad story , have posted below before , really feel for this owner must not give up to find shuck, would put a complaint to the police again , and maybe do local paper so locals are aware of shuck missing and story, then poster the whole village to get people talking and see if get a reaction x x best wishes
Pete Smith
We know he took him...from the finder, who I have spoken to... to take back to me...he never did...when confronted he came up with a story that satisfied the police but not me... and they wouldn't crime it.
So pro forma it is a lost dog...but I all indications are the reality is grimmer.
......I should be overjoyed to eat my hat if that dog turns up again.

How could anyone apparently execute a dog in cold blood? Horrible.

It is a rare case...normally a dog in these circumstances just disappears...but here we know that the neighbour collected the dog...he was the last one to have possession and his explanation of what happened is highly unsatisfactory. Hence I am at liberty to spread the word of what we know. Btw I still don't know he shot him...but it is safe to assume, having known this guy for over thirty years.
Pete Smith
I know the answer...I know that the way things are, I won't get satisfaction through the official channels...I am still looking...inspected a corpse of a dog found in a brook yesterday. It was a fox.
If it had been a dog with a chip and a billet hole that would have been a result because it would force the police to crime it...
They could have gone that way , but they decided to cuff it.
I will look for opportunities to be unneighbourly and let Karma take its course.
In the end what must it be like to be such a negative person ...to be able to shoot a frightened dog.
He is not a well man.

I feel for you. Is it worth making a complaint to Suffolk police to try and get them to crime. All seems very odd. Another officer might be more interested and worth a try to make sure original decision was right and not based on other factors. You can do online. If what you think has happened, has, hope the individual concerned rots in hell. Also try getting local press involved, tell the story and make life difficult for them. At least everybody will then know and you may get to the truth. If shuck was local to area and knew it, am sure he would make his way home if he escaped, none of it makes sense. Hope you get some answers

Posters in schools would be good...kids don't miss anything!

Followed up possibility of the dog having been passed on...
Keeping spreading word...
Interesting what you hear when you dig.
Nasty twisted local man... frustrating the police is so gullible...or lazy.
Mary
Any news?

Sam and Loki have been out tracking and no scent was found between the finders house and the farmer's drive. This covers the areas that Shuck would have been in if he had escaped from the farmers vehicle, if the dog did escape then Loki would have picked the scent up
Skywalker99
I am not surprised the woman who found him is upset. If as you suspect he has taken the dog to dispose of it he must be a very cold and unemotional individual, you need to have the stomach to basically 'execute' it.
Juls
Nightmare story , I really hope you find him bless him , such a lovely dog sorry police and farmer not being much help but do keep trying to get him home for you and shuck take care x x
Mary
Pete if you ring DogLost, to see what they suggest, as they do not monitor all comments.
Pete Smith
Skywalker.
He may have no right but in the real world there are nice people that want to help...
The lady who found the dog in the first place is terribly upset...I have also suggested to the Waveney Council dog people that perhaps protocol needs to be tightened up to avoid scenarios like this...she said working in her capacity for 15 years she has not come across anything like this before!
Pete Smith
The police has been going with his story...he intended to return the dog to me... it ran away
According to them he did not intend not deprive me of the dog indefinitely...the definition of theft...to permanently deprive..
No crime number as they do not accept a crime was committed no body with gunshot marks etc.. the dog ran away..
Following up other possibilities...he may have passed it on.. or keeps it locked up until shooting season is over...next week. Last weekend right now.

I'd agree, the farmer had no right to take him in the first place whether he said he was going to return him or not. He had been reported to the dog warden and the right procedures were being followed for a stray dog. I would phone Doglost as they can often help with the police when they are being 'difficult'. If the man insists he lost him then he should have no issue with helping to search for him, or paying for posters/adverts in newspapers and organisations like The pet detectives etc. behaviours can point to guilt as much as anything else. I guess Shuck knows the area and would have come home? Also contact www.lostdogtracker.com.Last edited: 2017-01-28 11:35:18 by Skywalker99

Pete you should go back to police and ask for crime reference number as your dog us not missing ..shucks was stolen by the farmer ..he wax taken without your permission..please send the CRN to admin@doglost.co.uk and they will pass to their police coordinator and the status can be changed to stolen not lost
Mary
Pete you need to make the details under other info shorter so that posters can be printed and put up in the local area. If you have a mobile put mobile number as an alternative phone number. Make sure microchip details are up to date and shown as missing.
Pete Smith
As to why...the man runs a shoot and considers all dogs not under permanent close control a problem dog..
My dog did take himself for walks...never did any damage, being a working dog. The man took the opportunity to take control of the dog under false pretenses and destroy him...it is a mentality that exists in the country side especially among game keepers.
Just annoying that there is not much one can do...
Bottom line ..I am gutted.
Pete Smith
Theft is the intention of permanently depriving of use.
The man said he would take it around to mine...and it escaped...
Hence no intent.
Police were involved but have advised as allegedly the dog escaped he is still a missing dog..
Without a body there is no evidence a crime has been committed.
Skywalker99
With or without a body this needs reporting to the police as the man who picked him up from the lady was not the owner and therefore stole him.
Mel
Why would anyone want to destroy such a beautiful dog? I don't understand. I pray he is ok x
Pete Smith
I am the owner...
I am getting resigned to the fact that the man targeted my Shuck (because he did take himself off for walks) as a "problem dog" and took the opportunity to gain possession and destroy him.

Shuck was originally called in as a stray to the Dog Warden, but when the Dog Warden contacted the finder back he had been given to a man, claiming he was going to return the dog to his owner. He never did. There is a £1000 reward for the return of Shuck.

Sorry to see that SHUCK is missing.
  • If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
  • Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
  • A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (110648)
  • Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
  • You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
  • Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
