- I'm so sorry to hear this, but thank you for the update Mike. Yes, I hope also that he is safe with someone, and that you will get lucky if the chip is read. I hope the local people will renew the posters and keep up the search, especially as winter months are here. Fingers crossed for you. Stay safe Ludo, until you are found xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Fishing through my maps I found an old OS one of the area, and there are a number of streams coming down from the main ridge on both sides so Ludo should have enough to drink. I'd be following the streams down if possible as that is where small rodents will be. Any idea what his hunting skills are like? Even if he hasn't caught anything before, it's surprising how quickly some dogs get the hang of it when they have to especially when they belong to a hunting breed. The main thing is shelter as it is going to be cold up there at night, so that is why I am betting he will have found some kind of hole or shelter where he will be out of the wind and rain. Mike has told us that people have been out searching regularly and will be out this weekend.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Thank you Mike, but the question is, is there anyone searching the area for him now? Owl has mentioned culverts, badger setts, and holes etc. It is likely he is holed up in something like this, and is highly unlikely he will pop out to greet someone. If he is still there, and alive, he could be very weak and dehydrated, and will be very frightened. You need to get a search party organised asap if you want to save this dog. - We are back now. Ludo went missing from the Offa's Dyke path. It is difficult to be precise. We were, as far as I can tell, directly above Capel-y-ffin. We were heading towards Hay's Bluff. He turned tail and ran back down the path and we followed him, with occasional sightings for about half a mile or so. We then met people walking the other way who had not seen him and concluded that he had left the path. He could have gone either side - towards capel-y-ffin or down towards the Olchon (?) Valley. The terrain off the path is very rough (we had to carry him over a stretch earlier in the day) - however, there are no doubt plenty of sheep/rabbit tracks. We searched either side of the track as best we could.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Mike, if you can get on here, could you give us an answer to Owl's question please ? We are more than worried about this little fellow. Do you have any plans to return from Canada yourself soon please? We would like an update asap. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Is anyone doing a very close ground search of the area Ludo went missing? It's important to spread the news all round the area so that walkers are ready to look out for him, and in case anyone has picked him up, but if he is still loose he won't have gone very far and with recent chilly nights he will have found some cosy nook to den up. Is anyone checking disused badger setts, hollows under fallen trees, culverts, anywhere a little dog could make a dry nest? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hello Mike, and thank you for the update. It makes it so much easier to communicate if owners register and post. How dreadful for you to be so far away when Ludo is lost. Can you tell us more about how he went missing? Is he a friendly little dog, and would he run up to anyone else, or tag on to someone with a dog? Or does he just run off, and ignore you calling? Only it is quite possible he has been picked up by someone. I am trying to widen the publicity. If you could cover any phone numbers mentioned below, and make sure you ring those Hunt kennels. Pedigree dogs get re-homed almost immediately, so don't rely on people calling you. The following Tourist information Centres have been notified, and sent a poster:- Llandovery ? Brecon - Builth Wells ? Crickhowell - Lake Vyrnwy - Llandrindod Wells - Machynlleth ? Newtown ? Presteigne ? Rhayader ? and Welshpool. The following libraries :- Brecon - Builth Wells ? Crickhowell - Hay on Wye ? and Llandrindod Wells. I have also done the Forestry Commission Talybont ? Talybont Research office - YHA Brecon Youth Hostel - YHA Danywenallt farm House - Talgarth youth Club - 1st Montgomery Guides ? Scouts - Talgarth Army Cadet Force - Cwm Fforest Riding Centre ? The British Horse Society - Wales Trecking and Riding Assoc - Heart of Wales Riding School - Golden Castle Riding Stables llangattock - Trans Wales Trails - Bushwakkers Pony Trekking - Underhill Riding Stables - Tregoyd Mountain Riding Holidays - Llanthony Pony Trekking - Llangorse Multi Activity Centre - Llangorse Multi Activity Centre - Gilfach Farm - Criollo Farm Powys - Dolygaer Activity Centre - Plas Pencelli Centre ? and Wilsons School Bunkhouse. Any more newspapers you can contact would be a good idea, or free papers. plenty you can do from a computer. Come on Ludo, show yourself! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hello everyone - your help is massively appreciated. We are in Canada currently so a bit hamstrung in some ways. I had alerted vets, police in Abergavenny, dachschund rescue in Cardiff, placed ads in abergavenny chronicle and last weekend spoke to people in the local vicinity one of whom is retracing the route again this weekend with her Cocker. Thanks again - fingers and toes crossed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- White hart Inn and Bunkhouse has bounced back, so please contact them on the number I gave earlier for them. They are at Talybont-on-Usk, Nr Brecon, so should be notified. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Posters have gone out to all fourteen bunkhouses, but a follow up phone call from owners would press the urgency of the situation, and may get more help on board. The dog pound for Brecon is at The Hunt Kennels 01874 622091. They are run by the Brecon and Talybont Hunt, and receive strays from the dog wardens. They are then under the RSPCA. Dogs are held for a week before re-homng. If you speak to Darren the huntsman, he will be able to let all farmers in the area know. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Try contacting the Hereford Times, The Brecon & Radnor Express and Abergavenny Chronicle. These are the local papers and give free "lost & found" ads. I presume you have spoken with as many local farmers as possible? Posters in the local pubs may also be a good idea - The Half Moon at Llanthony, The Bulls Head, Craswall, The Crown, Longtown and shops in Hay-on-Wye,Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Ludo well. Stay safe Ludo, until you are home x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
