- Thanks so much for the update Janet.
You did really well following all the advice and a big thank you to the people who called in the sightings. Without them we would not have know Kai had gone out to Danehill.
A huge thank you to the rangers at the Ashford Forest Centre who gave so much support and help by passing the information on to you.
I'm so glad Kai found you and came straight up to you! He must have been very relieved to see you again after being out for 4 days. Good to hear that he is well other than a tangled coat :)
Thank you also for the reunited photos which I have added to the page (you may need to refresh/reload this page to see them) Lovely to see you and Kai together again.

- I just wanted to tell you how we found Kai. As you know he is very nervous and timid and we thought he was probably hiding during the day and moving in the evening. We went out yesterday evening to go around the car parks on Ashdown Forest that he is familiar with intending to visit them all later in the evening again. However we had a call from the duty ranger who reported a sighting of him behind Danehill primary school but he had 'disappeared into the bushes' when approached. We went and looked in the area but could not find him. Whilst there we received another call from the ranger saying he had been seen in a garden in Tanyards Lane on the other side of Danehill. Off we went, located the area of houses, parked up leaving the car engine running and the boot open as we had been advised. We knew it was a matter of him finding us so we walked around gently calling and trying not to fall over as it was now completely dark. We had a torch but knew Kai was used to one so we hoped he would not see it as a threat. As we started a second circuit walking into the centre of a small field he suddenly rushed up behind us completely overjoyed to see his delighted Mum. His coat is tangled with allsorts but he has no obvious injuries. Many Thanks to Doglost and Jenny for giving us the advice we needed to find him and to every one who helped in our search.

- Great news :) Well done to all involved.
Welcome home Kai.xx - 2017-04-10 22:02 Folly
- I am so thrilled and hugely relieved at this great outcome. It just couldn't be better. Knowing how a nervous dog reacts in a crisis, I really feared the worst. In the past two days I have also learned how supportive various people, either on their own or from dog searching groups, can be. Thanks a million to Clarkey who rang to tell me the news 5 mins. ago, just as I had come in and was about to look on Kai's page with the usual feeling of apprehension. Thanks to the family, friends and supporters we have the best possible outcome. Enjoy your favourite scrambled eggs tonight Kai. You are very much loved. Sandra

- Delighted to hear from the family that Kai has been reunited!
I will leave it to Janet to let you all know how they found him but basically someone spotted him and called the rangers. The family went over there and there was no sign of him but after a while he appeared behind them. Kai was overjoyed to see his mum so a very happy ending!
Thank you so much to all of you who shared for Kai. If you put posters up please would you take them down! That's the best job of all.
Welcome home Kai :)

- Kai has just been found!
He has been found in a garden - the owners got a call from the ranger and the owners went and after doing as I said and what they already knew they easily caught Kai. So pleased - saves me a trip tomorrow. - 2017-04-10 15:09 Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
- Another sighting of Kai on Friday, the day he was lost:
" ... near Broadstone Warren on Friday at about 5pm. It was walking on the verge so I turned back to see if I could stop and get her in the car but I turned back and a lorry had stopped and the driver was looking in the forest, as she must have run off"
Good to hear that Kai was walking at this time and not running. Certainly sounds as though he is back in the Forest again which is encouraging.
From what I understand Janet goes to several different car parks to the Forest so it's possible that Kai could try to find any of these although I'm hoping that he will be going back to where he was last with Janet.
Fingers crossed we get a more recent sighting soon. - 2017-04-10 13:09 Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
- Folly: The photo on the page was given to Admin to add to the page. You may need to refresh/reload the page to see it.
Janet: Have there been any other sightings of Kai since Friday please?
I've shared to the Riding clubs on Ashdown Forest as they are more likely to see Kai whilst out and about.
My hope is that, as there have been no more sightings of Kai, either on the road or anywhere else that he has holed up somewhere. Normally a lost dog will try to go back to where lost so hopefully Kai will be back in Ashdown Forest now although is very likely to be hiding as he is so terrified of people. As mentioned already Kai's family have stressed that he's very, very timid as he was a rescue dog and this will mean that he will not go to anyone other than Janet.
What we need now is a new sighting of Kai so we have an idea of where he is or which direction he is moving in.
For those of you asking about tracking him please be assured that Jenny is aware of Kai and we are both giving advice to Janet and her family.
Come on Kai .. show yourself so we can get you back to your mum.

- Thanks to everyone who is helping to find Kai. I am horrified to read that he was seen on the A22. He will be running blind in terror and have no awareness of traffic.
Please could someone in admin. change the photo to the one of Kai himself rather than the "poster image"? Thank you, Sandra (BMDCGB Rescue) - 2017-04-09 23:53 Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
- Thank you Jayne.
Thank you to all who have been sharing this evening. Please note that the 2nd landline tel number on this page is for the Ashdown Forest centre.
If anyone is able to help put posters up in and around the area it would be most appreciated please. Posters can be printed directly from the poster page.
Would anyone be able to get one to the Wych Cross garden centre please as it's right in the middle of the area where sightings have been.
If you are on Twitter please tweet for Kai (again you can click on Tweet symbol above) or share my Tweets (I'm @Mivvidog on Twitter) Thank you. Last edited: 2017-04-10 00:11:55 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex - 2017-04-09 22:40 Jayne - Founder Doglost.

- I've just had a chat with Janet and also sent out Doglost advice emails.
I have had several Berneses myself over the years and I would NOT suggest trying to trap Kai.
Janet does not like the idea either and is following the normal lost dog advice such as leaving bedding/scent items (like unwashed socks/clothing) that have familiar smells on that Kai can settle with when he returns to the car park area. She's doing everything she can to find him and has said that Kai is very unlikely to go to anyone as he will be very scared. So if you do see Kai please do not try to catch him, just keep him in sight and call Janet as quickly as possible.
Ashdown Forest rangers are helping Janet and from the information on the Centre's Fbk page Kai was seen (on the day he was lost) back at the car park but unfortunately he was scared off by the people there. He was seen a little later at about 11am that day at Colemans Hatch and then in the afternoon on the A22 towards Forest Row and last seen around the Wych Cross traffic light area on the A22 heading towards Forest Row.
I'm hoping that when Kai calms down he will make his way back to the car park area.
I have shared to lots of Bernese friends, Doglost East Sussex and my timeline as well as other local pages to try to get the word out that he is still lost.
I've everything crossed that Kai will be found soon. Very best of luck to you Janet. - 2017-04-09 21:18 sheltielover

- Kai has been with his new "Mum" for a year now so it is not a case of wanting to get away from an unknown person. A mobile number for the owner is 07746 374521. This will enable her to spend more time in the carpark area, rather than waiting at home. Can anyone tell us, please, how to organise a trap as Bernese quickly become feral and will not even go to a familiar person within a couple of days? BMDCGB Rescue 01202 872217
- 2017-04-09 12:59 Folly
- Kai is a rescued dog and had a very poor start in life. He got separated from his "Mum" on the walk and made his way back to the car where he was seen but is nervous and will not be caught by a stranger. If you see him, please ring one of the numbers here and just watch him without trying to catch him until his family come to where he is.
