- If anyone of Millie's supporters can help another newly arrived Romanian rescue is missing Yossi 116692 Crambe YO60 North East

- I am so happy Millie is captured and being taken good care of. I was so worried about her.
I will certainly donate to her.
Over the years I have been involved with Doglost I have noticed that when a Romanian rescue dog goes missing there is a lot of controversy and regret and bad feeling etc and groups tends to split/argue, which sadly can hamper the rescue/capture.
Look at Fetita still missing. It will be 5 years this October. |Her original Doglost page had to be deleted because there was so much controversy/fighting on it.

I just hope lessons can be learnt but as SimonH says sometimes with all the best will in the world a dog will still go missing and we are here to try and help them home again.

- I quite agree, Simon. Let's hope little Millie finds a happy, well chosen home!

- Nicola - I've not seen the garden so can't comment - it was just a cut and paste and maybe the adopter felt the garden was a reason to avoid responsibility - ive no idea. I've never previously heard of the Dream Dog Rescue so again can't comment on their general set up but more fool anyone who takes a direct adoption (which includes UK rescues) without the means of having a Plan B if things don't work out. Personally I think all rescues should take their time to assess and then rehome to people who can meet their needs - This IMO, is vital.
- 2017-06-22 16:23 nicolapicola
- SimonH: the bit about the garden was presumably deduced from the Facebook entry you copied onto here in an earlier post(21/6/17 at 1829)
"As you know the adopter doesn't think she would be able to cope with Millie and her garden currently isn't secure. "
AND, from same facebook page: "The Dream Dog Rescue said they couldn't take Millie back as they had no where to put her"
I also wonder whether a truly responsible rescue organisation would bring a dog over and hand them onto an adopter and have no contingency plan and no accommodation for if it did not work out with the adopter. The Romanian rescue near me and the one in Norfolk will take them back if it doesn't work out. They get them to UK and safe house them and assess them for weeks/months before they adopt them out. - 2017-06-22 15:20 SimonH
- Kim - I had nothing to do with the capture of Millie. I'm very aware of the issues with Romanian dogs as have been involved with many. Perhaps you didn't read Jots comments but I'll break them down for you.
Is any authority looking at the rescue which handled her? No. The error as far as I can see was that the adopter didn't have a firm grip of the dog and so the dog saw her chance to get away, and did. This is not peculiar to a Romanian dog, I've handled many slippery UK rescue dogs.
Putting her to an adopter who had no secure garden and a futile harness for an oversea rescue? I don't understand this sentence but will try and respond - there is no evidence that the adopters garden wasn't suitable and the dog didn't escape from the adopters garden. There is no evidence that the harness wasn't suitable.
I agree with the last sentence.
That you have 4 Romanian dogs and "countless UK ones" is wonderful. Good for you.

- SimonH Congratulations on catching Millie and getting her to a safe place! I think Jot Cotswolds has a point: there are lots of mostly Romanian dogs loose in the UK because adopters are not properly warned about the special nature of ex-street dogs who are used to being independent and running when scared. They relate to dogs and not to people. Great care is needed in the early days of an adoption to prevent escape before a bond is forged. I have 4 Romanian rescues - as well as countless UK ones. They are different. And rescues should be vetting adoptive homes much more carefully.
- 2017-06-22 08:42 SimonH
- Millie is in the care of Nicki Scrivens who's spent the last few weeks sorting out capturing Millie and not "new adopters".
Jot Cotswolds. No authority is interested in what happened, it wasn't illegal and your comments are unhelpful - do you apply the same logic to others who have lost their dogs? The dog jumped from the adopters arms, I have transported hundreds of UK rescue dogs and quite a few Rommies- in the early days a UK pound dog jumped from my arms, I caught her thankfully. No one is perfect - the dog is safe. - 2017-06-21 21:31 Doglover
- Fantastic news xxx

- thank heavens this is brilliant. do hope millies new adopters will be fully aware of just what a scared street dog needs. my romanian rescue was lost day after she arrived by her new adopters and found 3 weeks later. their heart was in right place but sadly werent aware how a terrified dog can escape from what you think is escape proof garden.
- 2017-06-21 20:58 Jot cotswolds
- Is any authority looking at the rescue which handled her? Putting her to an adopter who had no secure garden and a futile harness for an overseas rescue? Too many tragedies coming from amateur rescues with overseas dogs.

- HELP NEEDED FOLKS - Update from Millie's FB page and a copy and paste
"It is with great pleasure I can confirm we have safely caught millie moo. Last night at around 10.30pm we tranquilised millie and safely got her enclosed in an area where Kaye could manage to grab her. She has been to the vets to have the dart removed and at the same time she had a foreign body under her arm pit removed and a pocket full of fluid which they have now emptied. As you know the adopter doesn't think she would be able to cope with Millie and her garden currently isn't secure. The Dream Dog Rescue said they couldn't take Millie back as they had no where to put her, so without option to safeguard millie I legally took responsibility for her. By doing so we were able to organise to tranquilise her having come up against much obstruction! The cost to tranquilise is £388.07 and her follow on vet bill is £549.85. Both Kaye Wicks and I have fronted the money to cover these costs but we both cannot afford and it really should be considered fairly by the rescue who brought her over to the uk and the transport company who also contributed to her predicament. But it has not. She is currently at the kennels where she will get first class care from Jean and Julie. Thank you to them both.
We are going to have to do a fund raiser to help with the cost as this really is something we cannot personally afford! We will have to pay kennelling fees, food, more vet treatment if she needs etc. When we set out volunteering to return these lost dogs safely it personally costs us a lot of money, not to mention all our spare time and energy. If you can help with Millie's vet bill and tranquillisation costs both we and Millie would be very grateful and it would also help us to be able to help more dogs. We will do a fund raising page specifically for Millie but if you would like to help her and donate by PayPal you can by sending your donation to:
nickiscriven_29@hotmail.co.uk
We also need to say a few massive thank yous to Terri, Leah and Neal who have helped by feeding Millie every night to gain her trust. To Mike from Premier Wildlife who always does a great job. Village Vets in St Albans who have treated millie and been great and very friendly staff. Thank you"Last edited: 2017-06-21 18:31:37 by SimonH - 2017-06-07 17:26 charlie and sooty
- Lets hope that she is staying in one area and that alot of people are not out looking, as she will be frighted and could moved to a different location.
- 2017-06-02 06:21 SimonH
- The team involved looking for Millie have eyes on her a fair bit. Just time , cunning and a bit of luck will hopefully bring her home safely. They're doing a great job.

- Marbie....The details of wearing a collar, harness and 2 leads was not noted when I asked the question....I WOULD not have asked otherwise!!!
- 2017-05-28 07:39 SimonH
- From her Facebook page and I quote
"Nicki Scriven
12 hrs
Millie went missing yesterday we have had three sightings of her two yesterday and one today. She is between abbey wood and erith. She was wearing a collar and lead and harness and lead. I am part of the trapping team and have great support from them all. Millie will not just walk up to someone she is too scared and nervous. We can not trap until Millie stays in one place her safe place and this involves her not being chased or felt like she is being hunted. The rescue and adopter have been great and have been out searching and putting posters up even tho the adopter fell over and has badly hurt her ankle. Please keep sharing. No negative comments as this takes time away from helping Millie and won't help get her back home any sightings please report them too 07496 097646 "
End of quote - 2017-05-28 01:30 Marbie
- Charlie and sooty you ask why the poor dog wasn't on a lead? It says the dog is wearing a collar, harness and 2 leads. I suppose she was just very frightened and bolted as they do. I hope she stays safe and is home safe and well very quickly x

- The bottom picture I'm told was taken in Romania. Without the facts as to what happened I can't comment with authority as to how this dog ended up on the run. What I would expect from 'Team Doglost' is support rather than criticism.
