Many thanks, Patlucky, nciolapicola and NickyB. I've actually placed an ad in the local paper today. Doesn't come out till Thursday, but IF (if ... if... ) Marshie's been found, presumably whoever has him will still have him ...

dont forget to get ad in local paper as still tons of folk who do not use internet.
i use internet but also buy local paper

as a result saw an ad for an old blind dog lost locally so phoned them and told them to get details on doglost.co.uk - which they got their son to do. as a result mssg got spread further and wider and they got lots of help

Budgies are parrot family and there is plenty that they can eat in the wild - plenty of greenery, cherries are ready, other fruits on trees and bushes, seeds on other peoples' bird tables. They are also intelligent birds and will see what the other birds are feeding on. There are also water sources - bird baths in gardens, shallow streams (quite shallow at this time of year down South!).

The only budgie we ever owned we found
That was years ago now.
Think the one we found was tired so easy to pick up
Fingers crossed someone picks him up when he gets tired

Thank you again, NickyB - I'll keep on looking of course, but it was so near to nightfall, and there are (gulp) SO many possible predators round here ... And many thanks, SimonH: coincidentally, I put an ad in Gumtree under 'Lost & Found Stuff' about an hour ago - didn't realise there was a specific category for budgies. Will see if I can get it moved - or post another ad ...

It's a nice idea, but Ian would probably have a heart attack if I tried to put him into the travel cat - it's bad enough when there's a vet's trip in the offing! I think the best I can do is wheel his cage (with him safely locked in it) to the open window again, so that his shouts carry as far as possible ... Though I really don't know how poor Marshie could have survived without seed and water all this time ...

Really, I would not give up hope yet. The weather is nice and warm - it would be different if it was cold and pouring. Re. the cage thing - how about (only when you are nearby to keep watch, for his safety) putting Ian out in the travel cage for an hour or two so he can call and maybe Marshall will hear him and approach? Ian may be your secret "weapon"!!

Many thanks, NickyB and Jane. Absolutely no problem with spending money on an ad but, would you believe, all the classified ad people go home at 3pm on Friday till Monday morning?!?! However, I managed to speak to a news editor chap who's said he'll put something on the digital version, which at least is something ... And the trouble with the cage idea is the main cage, which Marshie would know, is not very portable - plus also Ian's home! I only used the small cage for very occasional trips to the vet ... Plus I really can't imagine he could still be surviving in the wild, four days on ... Oh, and Nina, I took some time off work and earlier today went round schools etc: must have left a good 12-15 posters with people ... So thank you so much, everyone.

You bird will only be able to recognise looking out from inside of the house. SO, if you have a cage put the cage outside and familiar objects specific to your budgie. There is still a chance you of you getting your bird back. As NickyB has said below - GOOD LUCK! I'll look out again today, don't give up!!!

our budgie flew out of the flat window (guess who forgot to close windows first). mum put an ad in the local newspaper -- - and a lady phoned up to say a budgie had flown into her flat........... we rushed round and it was our budgie........ so owner PLEASE SPEND A FEW POUNDS FOR AN AD IN YOUR LOCAL PAPER - still many people buy the paper and still many people do not use computers

Really appreciate all your help with finding Marshall (I managed to not put his name on the listing and I can't see how to add it). I've just looked up John and will ring him a little later (i.e. don't want to ring him bfore 9!). I left the travelling cage outside for a couple of days, but it's not one that he'd be willing to approach, and in any case there are so many cats round here it probably wouldn't be a good idea ... (His poor dear brother Ian occupies the main cage, which is far too big in any case to put outside.) I've leafleted/put posters up in the immediate area, and today I'm going to put posters up in local supermarkets plus anywhere else I can think of ... Thanks so much. Rose X

As with missing parrots, please notify John who keeps a national register of lost and found birds and will also give you good advice about best steps to take to find your budgie. My own advice is to (if you have a garden) put his cage outside with some food and water in in case he sees it and wants to go back "home". Also be up at dawn and out at dusk (dawn better) to listen to birds, either yours calling or others making a fuss about something - not just around your house but a bit further afield if you can. Poster EVERYWHERE, tell all your neighbours and the local schools (children are excellent at looking for animals and usually keen to help). To all looking - binocs are indeed a good idea but the sound thing is the most likely way you'll find out where this lovely boy is (unless he arrives on your lawn or windowsill). Very best of luck from a parrot owner (thankfully still inside the flat with me, chewing my t-shirt)

I'm going walking in the area this evening, I'll take some binoculars and look out for this little chap...Owners please notify Rangebourne Pets if you haven't done so already. I know when they lost a bird they actually got him back...!! Good luck
