Owner sent text back to say the dog was not hers. apparently they have only just managed to get close to the poor dog as it is so scared and have found that it is in fact a boy! So details changed on the 'found' dog and let's hope they find his owner or at least manage to find him a new home when he is more settled. So I see this is your little girl Gay. She is truly adorable. I keep an eye open when I am out looking for Sarafina. Just wanted to let you know some interesting information. I posted it to Sarafina's site. One of Spencer's (my husband) co-workers told Spencer that a couple of taxi drivers, or maybe it was only one taxi driver, but anyway he said he has seen Sarafina still in the Perkinsville area. Now I don't know when this was and once Spencer gets back to work he will ask the guy (he comes in practically daily for petrol for his taxi) and try to get more information from him. But he said he was hesitant to tell me because he didn't want me to get my hopes up and then the information not be reliable. I told Spencer I appreciated what he was doing but to find out the information as quickly as possible. Spencer goes back to work on Saturday. Then tonight I got a telephone call from a Lawrence, who also is a taxi driver. I don't know if it is the same guy or not, but he asked me to give Spencer about 10 flyers so he can have them to give to other taxi drivers and he said he would post them as well. So I am very happy to hear this information. Once I know when she was last spotted then I'll be able to post and let everyone know. I know she's coming home to me, just don't know when. Now that I know what Princess looks like then I'll be able to keep an eye out. I am going to look again on her site and see where Princess was lost. You are in my thoughts and prayers Gay. You have been so wonderful to me and Sarafina. Thank you so much. Hang in there sweetie. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Mizzy Thank you for that, I checked it straight away and unforunately the photo is 3 years old and the dog was rehomed. But anything like that helps so please give me anything you've got guys. The place the rescue home was, is where my family live so it could have been. That would have been weird as its 230 miles from us, but who knows. Katie and I have been trawling the woods in the area no sightings but have lots of people taking leaflets and I have made some little cards to give out with her picture on our phone no's for people to keep. I believe we will get her back one day I just have to keep going. Gay xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Also a young lad told me he reckoned he'd seen her on chester le st park a few weeks ago so have postered there too.

Hello again Gay - been looking at my atlas this morning - could be a slim chance, considering the length of time that Princess has been missing , that she has made it so far as Leeds. They can cover a lot of ground when on the run, and are easily spooked as we know. I have just updated the sheltie & collie forums AGAIN this morning for you. I have asked for help from anyone in the areas concerned to help poster etc. Best wishes, Nina x.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jumanjii Yes its the same post as on Gumtree and yes I have been in touch with the lady her name is Laura. She is going to put posters up for me where the dog was seen. I have phoned the dog warden down there and also the rspca and the kennels that they directed me to. There wasnt a lot more that Laura could say she wasnt sure wether it was a young rough collie or a sheltie, whatever he.she was it was very like Princess. and unless the owner has found it I cant find any listing of a sheltie or rough collie missing. So until I know it def wasnt Princess I have to make everyone there aware. Gay xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Gay am i correct in assuming from your post that you have been in contact with the lady who saw the dog in Leeds ? Glynafon one of our co ordinators pointed out  a post on gumtree about a similar sighting and I presume it was made by the same person . Glynafon emailed  them to try and find out if they knew any more about the dog but has so far had no reply. Is there anyone in Leeds that could help with posters etc. Original post. From Laura Leeds Halton: I have just seen a young stray lookin very frightened and limping... He/she ran away from me! Looked similar to lassie but younger, the hair was beige but long and brushed - she looked like she is loved! she was clean and may have only been a stray for a few days! She was running up Hollyshaw lane, LS15 in Halton Leeds but I lost her near the main road although I did look around I think she went to hide in a garden mayb! She had no road sence... Hope her/his owner reads this and is able to find her/him!! Gay x

Hi Annabel, I dont know what is going on with Princess, we had nothing then two sightings I am beginning to wonder if it was her. Why cant I find her? She was last seen at the football field at grange villa. before that Newfield in Pelton mews, there is a field behind that and I put scent down and made a den there for her, unfortunately it looks like the kids have made more of that than Princess and the blanket has gone. I have a new little sheltie, she is called Katie but dont think for a minute I will forget Princess, Katie is going to help me I hope. Thanks all for your continued support and help, let Princess, Cassie, Barney, Ziggy and all our babies come home to us very soon. Come on Princess I have someone here I want you to meet darling. Come home baby mam loves you very much and I miss you with all my heart,.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still no luck but the food I am putting down is getting eaten. The t shirt I put down went missing which was weird. Never mind I put another down we have made a little spot nearer home as the spot we were putting scent and food down was too near a fire today, someone was burning wood shavings. I am going to sleep on an old blanket tonight and put that down tomorrow. Gay xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Nina, I know maggie has been looking she text me yesterday that she would look in the areas she has been seen. No luck today but put more posters out, everyone I speak to has seen them so thats good. I put more scent down and also an old t shirt that I wore all day, as Princess didnt have a bed she slept on the sofa. I am going out early in the morning again, and my niece and nephew staked out the football field tonight where she was last seen. I have food and scent outside the house too, luckily I live in an end terrace lol. Keep praying for us everyone I am so worried if she is that thin that she wont survive the winter out there. She needs to be home and soon. Gay xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

e mail received: Hi Sylv   Princess was spotted by my niece yesterday, unfortunately she didnt have the sense to ring us. John and I found out this morning and we have been out all day on the fields with the binoculars we have put posters on nearly every pole, so they cant be missed. Scent is down with food. Am gonna set the alarm for very early so i can be out at first light.   We have told the kids in the area and my daughter attends the school she was seen at so she has put it around the school to keep an eye out.   I've told maggie who is a friend of Ninas off the sheltie site  she is going out looking too and she is asking all her dog friends to look. I just wish gemma had told us yesterday I was looking in the wrong place grr. I put 100 posters out yesterday and the same again today, I will be camping out in between school contracts which luckily only takes up about 3 hours of the day. Keep your fingers toes and everything else crossed and hopefully I will give you good news tomorrow. Thanks for all of the advice its taken on board.   Love Gay xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone, No sign yet unfortunately but still trying, Sylv is there any chance that you can get in touch with the couple that peed for England and asked how they did it? It may sound like a silly question but I was wondering if it was one spot or several they did it in and how wide a circle they went. Frankie b did the sheltie that came back after 10 months come back on its own or did the owner do anything out of the ordinary? Trying to get some ideas here as its so rural here I can only keep going around in circles trying to coax her out. I was amazed to hear about the Sheltie that was found after 10 months but what a boost I felt when I read that. Dont worry about me forgetting about her that wont happen. I think about her all the time and still dream about her nearly every night,  and cant wait to cuddle her, 'god I miss that'. Anyway guys I am off out now wish me luck. I can only support what Bee has said.  These little dogs may be small but they are bred to be hardy.  As long as they stay safe and are able to get the minimum amount of food and water to keep them going, they are bred to resist the harshest of weather and other conditions.  My friend's sheltie turned up after almost 10 months of living rough.  Another friend's corgi was also missing for over 6 months and wandered back one day, safe, dissheveled but still well.
Best wishes.  I hope you find your beautiful girl soon.

did the owners check with deerness kennels? thats where the warden takes them,,7 days then rehomed, although they offer chipping so would imagine they would check her, they get really loads of dogs through there,,i find it hard to believe she is living rough in that area,,some-one would surely have seen this breed of dog,she would by now be looking rough! Gay, do not give on this little lady, I have owned shelties in the past, they are tough little dogs, I helped a friend track and find her sheltie, it was missing for 6 weeks, survived very well, found through a gamekeeper on his rounds early morning. One thing that might be useful to you is that within the 6 weeks she was missing my friends sheltie literally changed colour from a very pale blue merle to nearly black on her back, maybe it is their survival "mode" but it did mean that she did not look same colouring as original, we were able to get sitings by literally staking out the fields all day. Hope she is home with you soon. Bee XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Indeed I did mean wee. I remember when Bailey the pointer went missing his mum and dad peed for England they told me and it worked. Bear in mind Shelties are very tough and can live off vegetable and roots. My youngest Sheltie is a cracking mouse catcher so they can survive very well. Could I suggest you phone Jayne the website boss or one of the co-ordinators and they will give you loads of tips on how to leave your scent trail. They are very experienced. I can't believe this girl has just disappeared. The breed is so distinctive, but they are shy and she may well be bedded down in undergrowth and popping out and back for food. Might be an idea to expand your postering area or even an advert or editorial in the local paper with photo. Call the newsroom. I may be miles away, but with you in my thoughts. love Sylv xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Sylv, No news of Princess, I don't mind the hard work but I wish something came of it but there's nothing. Somebody must have her otherwise she would have been seen somewhere. We have a band of gamekeepers scouring the woods and fields which is very kind of them. we have posters on our minibuses postrers in all the villages I've put posters through doors. I just keep going and hopefully soon something will happen. For the next six weeks have more time to put to put more into it. I am also going to do the scent thing anything is worth a go. Have I got it right that you mean put my wee down? Or were you meaning something else. Thanks for your support I really do appreciate it.   Gay xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think that's a very good idea Gay. Are you keeping up the postering where she went missing because she may well be living off vegetables etc. They are very tough in the wild. I may be wrong but I can't remember one sheltie having not been returned on this site. I remember one found sunning herself in someone's garden and that person thought they could adopt. Postering has a huge success rate. Parks, lamposts, vets, nearby supermarket to where she went missing. If it were my baby I'd be staruating that gone missing point because they usually return there and have you scented that area. Jayne and team can advise with that. We've got some good people on this site. I know Sheltie lady too is trying her best to get the message to her contacts in your area. Wish I was nearer because I'd be out looking with you. love Sylv xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I feel the best thing to do is to start another postering campaign as someone else has suggested. Inform local dog warden AGAIN first and foremost . Posters (In plastic folders) need to be put up in the area where your dog went missing, or where there have been sightings - on lamposts, entrances to parks and strategic places in parks, like at the start and finish of tracks and paths, at vets, petshops, carry-out food shops, local shops who often allow postcards in the window, supermarkets who have notice board, community centres, schools etc. You can ask the postman, milkman, binmen (even put poster on bins). You can ask school bus drivers and kids on the bus, or if you have kids on the bus, get them to hand out flyers at school.  Deliver flyers to houses & pop through letterboxes . Hand out flyers to people in the street, especially dog walkers. Put posters or flyers  in car windows. Rescue centres and kennels, preferably visited in person, by owner or someone who knows the dog, because your dog or it's breed may not be recognised by other people.  Get some more media coverage if you can, by asking the local radio station to broadcast her as missing and put an ad in the local newspaper again with a picture of her. Postering is the best way to get her back. All these things might spark someone's memory. Good luck. we will all be on the lookout at Doglost.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I really think this girl is in someone's house and probably closer than you think. You have to keep postering because eventually she will be seen. Hand them out to dog walkers etc, blitz the vets. Shelties usually return to the spot they went missing in. What's your dog warden like - helpful? I know the breeders are aware of her, so there are eyes looking. Praying for an early return love Sylv xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think you're doing the right thing putting posters through people's doors bebcause I suspect she's been taken in. Possibly found someone's garden and was enticed in with food, in which case she will show herself before long. I've known them to be on the run for weeks and eventually be caught, so keep right in there. She needs you. Don't worry about anyone thinking your sheltie's been ill treated. My two are the same, spooky. It is a breed thing and they don't like strangers which is good from the dog napping angle. They do tend to come back to the place they got lost so I doubt gone very far. They can also live off even root vegatables like turnip. They are tough as a breed. The trick is to poster like mad as probably only you will be able to catch her once sighted. Were it me I'd sprinkle some of my scent near my car and bed down for the night with the doors locked. This could well bring your baby back. SylvxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am gutted the sheltie seen around Aycliffe has turned out to be a tri colou or it could be a border collie.r, it was seen again on Friday and they rang us from the quarry. I am going to keep an eye out for a missing tri colour or border collie it may be good news for someone.   If anyone has either of these missing I would take a picture to the guys there, they were so helpful with us. There has been a possible sighting of Princess in Aycliffe village at the quarry on Mon and Tues of this week. The sheltie sighted was bedraggled and I dont know of any other shelties missing so its a good possible. Also seen around the quarry was a black labrador so if anyone knows of a missing labrador thats a sighting for them. If anyone knows anybody in that area please pass on the message and hopefully soon she will be home. We have been down and put posters up Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please advise owner/carer to search in the area where the dog was lost as they tend to circle. Our sheltie was found within 1/4 mile of where he bolted (after being spooked and slipping his collar) in a strange area, 2 days after he was lost.  Good luck and don't give up - make sure dog wardens are aware.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
