- I need to thank everyone. Problem is, I don't know where to begin. It's been quite a journey, in a number of ways. So please bear with me whilst I think it through. Thanks. Paul.

- Millys Mum The engine house I knew I had seen is part of Callington United Mines. Bobs thread isn't really the right place for links etc so if you like email us non.hannon@yahoo.co.uk or gpogle Redmoor Mine Kits hill... xx

- I just added his picture to a post we put up the min we knew he was found lol... I got to say its the best news we had for a long time as if any of you know that area it would have been looking fr a needle in a hay stack....When you add to that the risks from well for me its always been water.....
I just hope so much he has slightly strained his ligament rather than torn it.....Like Millys Mum's dog my Haz tore his and its long job. With luck its a strain from trying to jump oup to get out.... Bless him I just so glad he is safe xx
Millys Mum there are old workings all over Cornwall.... Because there was so much being got up from West Cornwall and then United Downs mines there were exploratory holes dug all over... Those are the not mapped very well and often un marked....Thats what they have in the Valley were as further west you get real shafts which often are capped properly (here is capping and capping)
I can't think of any productive ones Callington way but there is at least one engine house over that way.... Most of that area though was slate and quarries. Give me 24 hours and will find out for sure as I do have a couple of books on old working and their what they yielded .. Lol I not only come from not West Cornwall but mining stock on one side lol Drys only ever seen to be with the productive Mines but where they got clay out there is some kind of Dry...
I will go see what I can find out xx - 2017-08-04 23:40 Millys Mum
- Meant to say what a lovely photo of handsome Bob resting back at home.

- So sorry to hear that Bob may have injured his cruciate. We've experienced this with our dogs (Rotties). Our Heidi had an inherited cruciate problem and had to have both cruciates operated on but when another of our Rotties injured her cruciate we 'just' rested her with very limited exercise. It took a while but it did get better without invasive surgery. But hopefully Bob only has a minor injury not related to his cruciate. Seeks - thanks for the explanation about Drys/Driers. I had never heard of them. Mind you hearing about them now does worry me because a work colleague is moving to Monks Cross soon along with his young large (daft) dog. I mentioned to him about the possibility of unmarked mine shafts in the area (but don't know if there are any there) but are the Drys also found in the Monks Cross, Callington area? I just need to know so that I can warn him. I've also read that a company was hoping to get permission to extract oil or gas. Is this correct? But finally wishing beautiful Bob a speedy recovery.

- Have added a photo of Bob back home. He has lost a little weight & may have a cruciate injury which the vet is looking at, but he is having a well deserved snooze.

- Millys Mum we been asked so often as we are so Cornish we thought everyone knew lol They are Driers but we tend to calls Drys lol
They are 18/19th century (the valley ones are old) buildings that have a floor and under it some sort of room/pit etc depending on the age....
They used to use fire at the valley and I not sure it ever had steam pipes as it was a very small place with very few employed there.... They used the bottom bit to either run steam through or burn a fire (often charcoal ) then spread the clay out across the floor as when it dries it separates out the china clay... That is a very good clay for making porcilin with.... In fact Cornwall was one of the best yields of that quality
Think cellar only the valley ones Nikki just told me are not as deep as the ones down west....Deep enough to not be able to get out of at my height and even worse for a dog
The real Drys are limned with concrete sides not sure what the valley ones are but if they made it to the mid 19th century they will have concrete sides.
They are usually still roofed in some way but most of the floors have long gone....In St A they have converted the bigger ones to houses and they look good actually lol xxLast edited: 2017-08-04 19:42:51 by Seeks - 2017-08-04 19:21 redrose

- Shared on FB, have friends near the area so hoping they can also spread the word with all of their friends and family in the area. Also agree with radio lost bulletins as a Tesco driver spotted one of our dogs to help pinpoint the search area so Radio Cornwall, Pirate FM etc. Good luck finding Bob x

- Postered all round the valley but only had 75 to put out...Got more to takeout tomorrow via post now today to....
Did some along the A330 .... Did Pontsmill though he had to share with Pup....
Found the owner of the field! He also has some of the workings in his back bit as well as 2 of the tanks..... The shafts for want of a better name are fenced but any dog over a Laps height could jump the fences....They not very deep, one you can't see into as its a slight slope the other 2 you can. He is going to check all 5 of those for Bob.....
He also helps manage the valley (and explained a lot about its ad vibe lol) ... The top leate is dry, the others probable aren't after all this rain but pretty much were a couple of weeks ago.... I ca't hobble that fr in to check 2 of them but can the fastest flowing leate near the river.....
The river was calm till this monsoon rain came in day before yesterday.....Its now a very fast moving torrent.... I was going to check the canal basin but not too good today and its too far..... Will try and get someone to go look for us
Not any sightings and again knocked on doors and talked to a lot of people....They hadn't heared about him but they have your number now and will all keep an eye out.
We saw a few other posters today and we also have done all through the village and back to the A390.
Will laminate these ones that came today and get more out tomorrow xx - 2017-08-03 18:32 Max - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland

- Thanks Geoff as I got 50 today and almost all are now out ..Will pm you later as only just back in and soaked through and through with hint of swamp monster just now lol xx
Last Chance Hotel bless them did 50 posters today (bless her she said she will do more if needed to) so went from Pontsmill up round the valley (man there is a shortage of things to put posters on there) Then up round the outer parts and out to Redmoor....
Called in farms, cottages and stopped dog walkers, runners and arg workers. .... Nobody has seen him though a collie was seen this morning but the farmer thinks the markings were not like Bob....That was over towards Redmoor near to something beginning with a c Hill....
I know exactly where he meant... Went over there and there was dog muck in the middle of the lane that looked very collieish (I got collies lol) Bob would have to be a large collie like one of mine to do that though?
I asked around the farms over there to and they said there is a collie that often mooches the lanes (not like Bob) and a gds that walks about the lanes so more likely one of them....
Will go out again tomorrow with more posters etc xx - 2017-08-02 17:32 GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland
- A thought ... on the interactive map I have mentioned below, there is a "hotspot" Trevanny Dry, which when you click on it shows an old ruin which "has become somewhat overgrown, but along with the settling tanks now provides a home for many kinds of wildlife". Could Bob have made that his base? Maybe there are rabbits to catch? Might be worth checking out if safe to do so.

- Just got back from searching Prideaux wood and the top of North hill wood which is where Bob was last seen....sorry no sightings....on the plus side most of the mine shafts are between the fenced off areas.Last edited: 2017-08-02 16:39:24 by K9 Pat

- There are a number of old mine working/shafts high up and to the left of the ponts mill path....It would be worth coming in from new road and walk down to the ponts mill path.I'll try and do this walk later if I can fine someone to go with me.

- Radio Cornwall were very helpful when I lost a dog. They put out an appeal for help and a farmer heard it. The dog was on his farm sheltering in a barn. He'd thought he might keep her if no-one came forward and he hadn't looked too hard for any owners.

- Paul Luxulyan is clay workings not mines. There are a few very very old workings but the valley has old clay workings not actual 19th century mines. I think the nearest real shaft is out Sticker way.
There is a wheel and water works, old tram lines etc, they are further up than where it sounds like Bob went. They are Luxulyan side of the aqueduct and accessed via the car park Luxulyan end of the valley road. It sounds like Bob went in the Sweetshouse direction? There are a couple of farms just up from the Pontsmill turning down the next lane that back on to the valley... I can go talk to the farmers there and also some this side of the valley if needed.
Will try to get hold of posters to as the whole area could do with being flooded with them .... Sadly I not got a printer just now but will go grovel to try to get some printed. Our own dog was stolen from Pontsmill and we shared Bob to her page late night asking for help on the ground as well...... Will keep looking to xx - 2017-08-02 09:39 Max - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
- Paul, from the link that GeoffA put up, you can see that there is a subtitle 'Archeology' There is a pdf to download ( rather a big one) but it gives info about the area & mining etc. It may also be worth John or yourself getting in touch with someone from 'Friends of Luxulyan valley' & see if they know a bit more & can point you in the direction of any mine workings near to where Bob went missing. I will also put a note on their page.

- Good morning everyone and thanks for all your help, especially Corrina who is a star! I know there are others if you trying really hard for me and I probably don't realise you are so thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart. I wanted to try to clarify where we last saw Bob. Coming from Lostwithiel towards StBlazey the road goes from Nat speed to 40mph. There is A crossroads and Porcupine lane is in the left. Turn right on the Pontsmill road and go to that car park. Enter the valley trail (on the right as one enters the CP. about 1/4 mile along, the river crosses under the path from the left to the right and there are some railings. Just beyond the railings is a tree stump about 800mm high. Bob turned left off the path and went up the hill zig zagging first to the left then to the righ before we lost sight of him. John, his owner went up the hill after a while and came to a fenced off field but there was no sign of Bob. I've been told there are open mines in the area. If anyone knows of theem can they tell me where they are please? Thanks.
Thanks again. Paul. - 2017-08-02 00:35 Seeks
- Thanks Max & Geoff ... Think I worked out where and heading up this way I think but its unlikely he will come this far over....
Been out lurking till I got too spooked lol... There are 2 areas here that spook me..Redmoor is one and the Valley is the other... Had a calming cuppa talked my self into realising I anit 5 and can't hide under the bed and will get back out there lol
Its a good moon to see by to which helps ... Will also ask Nikkie and Kev to keep an eye out as they are at Pontsmill to xx - 2017-08-01 21:09 GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland
- Seeks - would this interactive map help?
http://www.luxulyanvalley.co.uk/interactive-map/
Could the lower Car Park be the one adjacent to the Canal Basin at Ponts Mill? The path from there heading west crosses the river between the red dots for Lower Tramway and Trevanny Dry, which is about 1/4 mile from the car park. Would need verifying but that is my best guess.Last edited: 2017-08-01 21:25:53 by GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland - 2017-08-01 21:03 Sarah - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambs Twitter Co-ordinator

- We walked with our three dogs for over an hour from Ponts Mill up the valley looking and calling for Bob after seeing the poster. Sorry to say we didn't see any sign of him. I hope he is found soon. I'll share to friends in the St Austell area, but we won't be in the area again for 12 days. I'll check on LD for updates and sincerely hope by then he is home where he should be.
