I am so very very sorry to hear your news. I have been following news about Bea since the beginning. I used to occasionally walk my border terrier in Hatfield Forest. It has been some years since we have been for a walk there, but I know how much she used to enjoy running around there. My heart goes out to you. They are such special little dogs. Thinking of you. Sleep safely little one. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I wondered if you considered asking the police under the freedom of information act to tell you who the attending officers were? Surely if, by law, a dog is required to be wearing a collar and tag in order that they may be identified and in an incident such as this, the owner notified, then they should adhere to their duties to alert the owner?? If you would like me to do this on your behalf I would be only too happy to help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Laura & family - I'm just so sorry. I saw the news the other day but didn't (and still) don't know what to say. As you say, there could be a miracle but at the cost of someone else's feelings. It's all so sad. I always say that our angels are only on loan to us and that we are just so lucky and honoured to have them in our lives, if only it could always be longer. Bea was a much loved little girl and had a happy life unlike lots of other dogs - you did your best for her. Run free at the Bridge little Bea, with our other babies.x Thinking of you, Laura and family at this sad time.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

By the edge of a wood at the foot of the hill, Is a lush green meadow where time stands still, Where friends of a man and woman do run, when their time on earth is over and done, For here between this world and the next , Is a place where each beloved creature find's rest ! On this golden land they wait and play till Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer in pain or sadness for here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness!!!! Their limbs are restored their health renewed their bodies have healed strength imbuled !!!! They run through the grass without even a care, untill one day they Stop and sniff the air !!! All ears pricked forward, eyes dart side to side, Then all of a sudden one breaks from the pack ! For just that instant their eyes have met Together again person and pet, So they run to each other these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last !! The sadness they felt whilie they were apart has turned into Joy once more in each heart, They embrace with a love that will last forever and side by side they cross over together !! Run wild and free BEA the warmth of the sun on your back forever x x What a sweetie x xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm so sorry, I don't know what to say why can't some people stop for just one moment to do one small thing that can make life for others more bearable and at supposedly a giving time of year. It only takes a moment, just one out of a lifetime to do a goodwill gesture for another... this breaks my heart. May all the wonderful times you spent with dearest Bea fill your hearts and minds with joy which I hope will override your pain. Thinking of you all, deepest sympathies, Annie xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for posting the update on here Laura, I know it must have been very painful for you and of course not the end result you and everybody else was wishing for. I can only echo what Laura has already said about the tremendous amount of effort many people have put in to try and get to the bottom of this all - thank you to all. And of course huge thanks go to all the local helpers who searched for little Bea. Run free at Rainbow Bridge Bea. My thoughts are with you and your family Laura. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

After many months of tremendous effort, I feel I need to update everyone on the progress in the search for Bea. Following our story making it on the front page of H & E Observer we received a call from a very upset lady, who had witnessed a dog killed on the A120 (nr Priory Wood Roundabout), which is the fast stretch of road which leads down from Stansted Airport. Despite several conversations with police, highways agency and Uttlesford Distric Council I have been unable to establish 100% that this was Bea. However the timing was 12:26 on Christmas Eve and although she would have had to move fast, it does seem to be her. We are all of course devasted and just wished that the police who attended her, had had a moment to retreive her tag - although upsetting would of made these months less painful. Of course there is always a chance of a miracle but our delight would only be misery for someone else. From the bottom of all our hearts, I cannot thankyou all enough for the help and support you have shown us. Bea was a very special part of our family who, we were fortunate to have. Thanks so so much xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Laura this is Charlotte Clarks (from Thorn Grove) mum we had already been on the look out for Bea over xmas as we were over the forest many times and have been mentioning her to everyone we talked to. This was before we realised it was your dog. We are keeping our fingers crossed that you hear some news after the Observer did the piece and get her home soon. We will be back over the forest at the weekend and will be on the look out again with lots of treats in our pockets just in case. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have today sent Bea's poster to over 50 email addresses for various people/organisations likely to visit Hatfield Forest or people located nearby. These include all local rambler associations, orienteering groups, local scout groups, stables, bed and breakfast accomodation - all where email addresses were supplied. Poster sent to Hallingbury Hall EC and sent one to Astron Dog Training who appears to hold training sessions in the forest itself. ~ Bea's owner - can you please PM me your email address as I found a couple of other places it may be worth you calling. Thanks.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, there were alot of deer around! I got excited at one point thinking it might be Bea but it was a monkjak (not sure of spelling!). Obviously no tail was one sign but the deer was grazing with 2 rabbits, like a scene from Bambi!! My dog got excited by a large hole but I'm pretty sure the hole was too small deeper down. Surely if she's in the forest, between us we'll find her. Maybe we'll bump into each other joshnbecks! Donna xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

spent over 4 hours at the forest. Covered alot of ground. Checked out alot of the badger sets that I know of around two of the surrounding coppices. Have put up more posters at the south footpath entrances and another at the main carpark. Spoke with loads of people and also the fishermen who were there thru the night. Also chatted with a team of guys felling trees who said they will keep an eye out. The number of deer running round there today was amazing can't say that I've ever seen so many there before. Maybe Bea just got on a scent........Come on Bea we want you home! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jayne, we were in the area Bea was last seen and looking down a hole with my 2 young dogs. I thought it came from behind us but Laura was standing behind me and didn't hear anything. So possibly one of my other dogs who were running around made a sound. There didn't seem to be anywhere that she could be trapped. Maybe she ran further away chasing a deer, we saw a few while we were there. There are lots of posters around the entrances to the forest so hopefully if she has gone further, someone will spot her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have put a poster up on Great Hallingbury village notice board (opposite the green) and on the back footpath entrances to the forest. Will go tomorrow to ask Takeley/Brewers End pub (four ashes) and the caravan/mobile home place if they will display posters (post office has a poster up according to owner). Will also poster Grange Paddocks in Stortford and other dog walking areas to get the word about. Bea's home is in Stortford Vicky and went from the Beggers Hall area of the forest.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just returned from a 2 hour search for Bea with owners Laura and Eleanor, sadly to no avail. I took my dogs who did their best, especially around the holes we found but I think there were too many other nice scents to be followed! I thought I heard a cry but no-one else did so I think my ears and eyes started to play tricks! Laura's friends turned up aswell with their dog who was there when Bea disappeared but he was more interested in collecting logs bless him!! It's such a vast forest, we need a sighting. The good thing is that the whole forest pretty much gets covered by walkers and dogs so hopefully someone will flush her out if she's there. Stay safe Bea xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Any news of Bea? We live very close to Hatfield Forest. We have avoided it so far this festive season as it does get very busy but I know the forest wardens are very nice and helpful. My husband found a stray there once and they kept it at their office, not on the site, until owner came forward which was very quick. Actually whilst typing this I decided to call the wardens but she's not been found by them yet so hopefully a member of the public has picked her up. Please keep checking the area she went missing from. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Not been able to get thru to the owner but if they are over the forest looking they won't have a signal. I spent a good couple of hours around the forest - it is heaving with people, stayed off the beaten track but is a very large area. Entrances well postered and having asked people to keep an eye out as I came across them (all dog owners avoiding the busy routes) all had seen the poster so that is good. Drove round the surrounding villages, no sign sorry. Will continue to try to contact owner on number. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
