Notice posters taken a beating in the wind and rain,so willprint more off and replace. We wont give up, until we know where he is or what has happened. I will also talk to driver I know again to check he is still on their noticeboard? Aggers family never a day goes by without thinking of you - remember you have support here at DL.

Still no news? This is such a mystery... I can't anyone stealing an elderly dog esp with a sore neck, and you'd think if he'd been found wandering he'd be taken to a vet. How can a large dog just vanish??

we have been away for a few days.His full name is aggememnon-but he was given it so that it could be shortened to aggers[tms].I have only just seen the golden retriever message.Have just spoken to Salisbury dog warden and they have had no sign of him. aggers owner. thank you all again. Thats a great idea! could you give Aggers' dad a call to find out? Could you also ask him a question....................was there a shoot locally on the day Aggers disappeared??? We are currently following up some info in that respect to this info could be helpful.

Just had a thought. Is Aggers named after Jonathan Agnew (cricket commentator) His nickname is 'Aggers' If he is I could email him for you to get a bit more publicity for your boy. I know him as my husbands Jazz Band played at his wedding a few years ago. England cricket team are in New Zealand at the moment - dont know whether J. Agnew is out there with them but I could find out fingers crossed your boy is home soon xxx

Some one rang to say they thought they had seen a body of a labrador but it turned out to be a deer when we went to look.Also after the newspaper ad a lady phoned to say she had seen a yellow dog in Broad chalk so we went to look[although the description sounded more like a retiever] and put a poster up there. Battersea dogs home have been contacted again and have not had him-nor the three local county dog wardens. All our friends are looking but there has not been a sniff. aggers owner.

Great minds think alike Aggers' dad, I was just going to phone you to see how things were progressing, so thank you for the update. Well done for being so proactive, you really have done well. Its a mystery what has happened to this lovely boy, and like you I am sure he has been picked up and taken out of the area. Well done for contacting all the Dw's further afield too, but keep at it! Don't rely on just the one phone call, make sure they all have a poster and you call them regularly for updates too.

Thank you for your help so far.We have had to be away for a few days.This week we are advertising in the Salisbury Journal.I do believe he is not very local as when I give out fliers at clubs etc 99% of the peolpe already know about him.I still feel that vets are the most likely but have heard nothing from those we have contacted. The Battersea dogs home have been intouch yesterday returning one of our messages-they have not had him but asked us to phone atleast once a week!!!

Met up with friend who (dont see often) drives between Shaftesbury Dorset & Ashford, Kent at least twice a week, sometimes does Hants area, A27/272 corridor via Shaftesbury/Ringwood routes. I have given him couple of Aggers' posters and he will look out for him and post the other poster at work for other drivers to see as well. Will keep actively looking for him.

I did contact Aggers owners and offered to help them mail all the vets, but they are being very pro-active and said they didn't need any help, but I left my number and said I was willing to help in any way I can (I have three Labs of my own!). I do suggest that if any more posters go up - it might jog a walker's memory - they are laminated - the original ones have faded/disintegrated quite badly.

Just read of local 'permit holder' Paul Henderson who uses the gallops at Whitsbury for his horses with permission of gallops owner Chris Harper [poss CH is owner of Whitsbury Stud/Racing Stables?] Sorry can't find Henderson's contact details. A permit holder trains Point to Pointers. Try local tel directory?

Yep, more good ideas there. Is there a local library van in your area? Lots of rural areas have a travelling van which goes around the rural villages so make sure there is a poster up in there and if possible give them a handful of scaled down posters, as flyers to hand out to people. You can never poster too much or too far. Check out Jasmine the Rotty from Salisbury who has been returned today following a big postering/flyer campaign. How are you and Bickton getting on with mailing the vets???

Thanks Bickton I am sure Aggers' family will appreciate your help with this as its a big job. I agree with you about someone picking him up, and I know Aggers' dad thinks that too, so its time to move the search a little further afield me thinks. Who has brought a new dog into the vets for treatment??????

I would be happy to run some posters off and send them out to vets in the area. I will ring Aggers' owners tomorrow and let them know - we can divide the area up. I'm sure he has been picked up as I drove up there again today and there are always people around - not just dog walkers, but the farmers and the people from the studs, and if he was still around someone would have seen him.

Aggers' dad you have done a great job here and so of course have all the DL helpers who are pulling out all the stops to help. THANK YOU EVERYONE! It seems very likely that if someone has Aggers that they will soon be thinking about taking them to the vets. I know you have been in contact with the vets and they are looking out for Aggers which is brilliant, but I think it could be good to re-inforce the "Aggers Message" by sending each vet a poster of Aggers (you can print them off of this site by clicking on the button next to Aggers' picture) I would do this in a wide area. This will be a big task I know, but I definately think it will be worth doing. Maybe there is a willing DL helper on here who might be prepared to share this task with Aggers' family? Maybe every vet in a 30 mile radius could be sent a poster??? I am sure you have already done this but have you let the Dogs Trust at Newto Toney know? Also will the Salisbury Journal run an editorial on Aggers (especially due to the fact he will be limping and have a sore neck) as this will be seen by more peeps than an advert at the back of the paper. Fingers crossed Aggers will be seen by someone eagle eyed soon, there are certainly lots of peeps looking for him!

An Update from Aggers' Owner A heartfelt thank you to everyone for helping us to trace Aggers. Still no sightings I'm afraid. We've kept in touch with Police (Wilts, Hants, Dorset) Dog Wardens, Vets, the RSPCA, Labrador Rescue, and this and another website. We' ve spoken to the Wilton Hunt Manager, the Keepers of local Shoots, farmers, regular dog walkers and residents in the area where Aggers went missing, and to the Racing Stables at Whitsbury. Posters have been put up in Downton, Whistbury, Breamore ( post offices, pubs, etc) and in a number of country lanes where we thought walkers would be who might have seen him. The area immediately around where he was last seen ( top of Wicks Lane) has been searched 4 times and a small part of his blanket carrying his scent left at a gate post where the car was parked just in case he returned. So far as possible, we've searched every ditch and piece of woodland and scrubland in the immediate area of Wicks Lane upwards of the derestricted sign just in case he'd got himself stuck after chasing a rabbit or even been put there after being run over- very unlikely as the track makes driving at speed almost impossible. We now think it's very likely that Aggers attached himself to someone very soon after getting lost/disorientated and was taken away in a car- hopefully by a well intentioned dog lover who thought he was a stray and thus hasn't yet contacted the police or a warden. Because he'd been scratching his neck ( the medication for his poorly knee had made him a bit scratchy) and there was a 'raw patch', he wasn't wearing his collar, so just might have been mistaken for an abandoned dog, especially just after Christmas. Following advice, for which we've been very grateful, we've now also enlisted the aid of our local postman, who's based at Fordingbridge and will pass Aggers' details to colleagues whose patch is closer to Downton contacted all the local BBC and Commercial radio stations( but none of them run a lost and found service any more, though 2 have taken his details and will let us know if anyone calls in) and will place an ad in the next edition of the Salisbury Journal. We are trying to stay positive and our next hope is that now that most people are returning to work, someone will phone the police or warden or take him to a vet, especially as his knee will certainly be much worse after a week without his pills. We've offered a reward for his safe return. Thank you all again. JSIO

PS I sent Ralph a personal email this morning, even if he is away as lots of flat trainers are right now, there will be someone manning [or more likely woaning!] the yard office. It's the yard where Desert Orchid and Persian Punch were trained btw!!

It's Breamore House - not NT - and I will contact them re Aggers. Where exactly was he lost? I was guessing that it was Wick Lane - as this is really the only place a car could have picked him up. I will also a poster off on the other farmer at the top of Wick Lane - can't remember his name, but know where he lives (in Wick Lane) and will a poster off there tomorrow).

Would be good to alert all riding establishments in the area as it's a big wild area up on the downs and hard to cover except on horseback - advise you look in Yellow Pages etc for all riding schools and livery yards. To the northern [Salisbury] edge, Clearbury Rings is the last stop-off for cars, must be noticeboards etc there where you could poser for walkers.

PS Owner might be able to work out which stables are nearest to where the dog is missing - go to and type each county into the search box for county, then all the names of the racehorse trainers will come up. if you click on the name, further details will come up inc fax or email. Almost all trainers and their staff have dogs, and are aware via the Racing Post how serious dog theft it etc, they would be very helpful. Might be an idea tho to ring before emailing poster as they get so many emails in, they might think they are being spammed!

Tomorrow morning I will email Whitsbury Manor Stud and also Ralph Beckett at Whitsbury Manor Racing Stables, the horses are exercised every day up on the downs over a large network of gallops, someone on horseback may have seen Aggers, or he may find his way down into the village which is iirc almost all lived in by people working in one of these two establishments. Will email Ralph personally too in case he can suggest other trainers using the downs. Suggest someone also faxes details/poster to Braemoor House [NT I think] on the edge of the Downs btwn Downton and Whitsbury, dog walkers prob use the environs/estate - 01725 512858 fax number, sorry I can't get this mac to send faxes! ggrrrr. Suggest poster is left at Rockbourne Roman Villa site.

It may well be Aggers has been taken in my someone who may think that because of the holidays nothing will be open (kennels/council dog wardens etc) until wednesday.Please check local Police stations regularly and in person of poss. I am sure if he looks poorly it would take a cold heart to ignore him. Stay safe Aggers until you are home sweetheart. xx

Jsio well done for registering on here, its always to much easier for DL helpers to have the owner of the dog they are helping, on the site. This means you can let us know the latest news and sightings of Aggers, and means we can avoid duplicating work. Great news from NFDW, great that you are all aware of Aggers and are looking out for him. And Bickton, you have been a true Angel, thank you for doing all that legwork! Keep up the postering everybody, I think Aggers' owner could well be right that a "good samaritan" may have picked Aggers up, so we need to let everyone know how much he is missed. Have you tried the local radio or the Salisbury Journal?

by now aggers has missed 3 days worth of steroids for his front shoulder and will be increasingly lame. we have walked the area now many times and have looked for him in ditches etc.He does love water of any kind but there is very little on the downs.We just think because he looks pathetic with his limp someone has 'helped' him .If anyone had a biscuit he would have happily gone with them! owner.

Hello, the NFDC Dog Warden Service and Salisbury District Council Dog Warden Service are both aware of Aggers disappearance and are both searching for him. NFDC has an out of hours service that operates from 5pm-1am weekdays and 9am-1am weekends and public holidays so should anybody report finding him it would be reported.

Have just been up Wick Lane to posters - as I thought industrial units all very shut up, but have ped them off. The chickens were out at the farm, so someone must be back there tonight. Also saw three boys off-raoding in a 4x4 and gave them a poster - they said they had found another dog some months ago and were keen to help. My husband and I also scanned a lot of the are with binoculars, but didn't see anything. Saw a few posters up, but looking pretty faded and bedraggled - might be worth putting some more up - if owners are unable to do it before then, I will have a go on Tuesday. Just a thought, but when I lost my Norfolk Terrier three years ago, it was just after Chistmas and the dog wardens were all off. She was found and taken in 24 hours after being lost, but it was three days before they were able to find out that she had been reported missing - the same thing could have happened here. Fingers crossed that owners get a call tomorrow.

I have e-mailed all details to the Wilton Hunt and also left a message for a friend who farms up above Downton and overlooks Whitsbury - she may be away as she has a house in France - but I will drive up there this afternoon and leave a poster for her son/daughter who help on the farm + will leave a couple for the industrial units in the barns - not sure if anyone will be there until 2nd of January, but will leave posters anyway.

Aggers' owner has been spoken to this morning. Aggers hasn't been seen since going missing on his walk, but his owner has been very active in the local area with postering and contacting local DW's/police/kennels/vets. The area where Aggers went missing is in the border of Dorset/Hants/Wilts so there are a lot of Agencies to cover! Aggers has no ID on him as his collar had been taken off as he had a sore neck. He does not wander off, so this disappearance is unusual for him. All local help and postering by DL helpers is really appreciated by Aggers' owners. Thanks peeps.

The Wilton Hunt met in Odstock on Boxing Day and there were hundreds of foot followers up on the downs between Odstock and Downton which is pretty close to where Aggers went missing - I will contact the Hunt to see if anyone spotted him that day.

I'm not good at all with Geography but have relatives living on Hayling Island and also in Portsmouth. Is that anywhere near where Aggers went missing? If it is I'll email them some posters. Just going out now to get some ink for my printer.
