Cant express how we are feeling at this moment but am thankful that we will have jess back home with us soon. The support from everyone has been amazing, and greatly appreciated, esp DJK,Reynard,Lynne,Katie, Evelyn and Anthony from doglost Wiltshire and also the people at drone sar, thank you . It certainly helped us knowing that people were out looking for jess at times when we were unable to.
At least she had a little bit of fame in her later years as we have been approached by people wherever we go, asking about her and being genuinely concerned. DJK has been a rock for me and supported my son when collecting jess today as I was not local at the time. Thank you so much xx

Posting for owner:

Unfortunately sad news, Jess didn't make it home. A kind gentleman pulled her from the river at Adderwell this morning. She has been retrieved and is now at rest. RIP Jess.

Still nothing, people still very aware and getting asked about jess regularly but nothing to give us an area to focus on someone somewhere must have seen herLast edited: 2017-09-14 12:42:57

Yes DJK, it is so frustrating and she must be spending a lot of time sheltered somewhere that we cannot access.

Try and think where you'd go if you were her size? Are there any little gaps she could get into. She might be under someone's decking or in a shed where the door does not quite shut.

DJK
I can't believe she hasn't been found yet with the amount of support we have around the town, the only thing I can think is she is in someone's large garden that is either away or doesn't go out much into their garden. Come on Jess, show yourself!
DogLostReynard
Thats a shame Debbie no sightings , lets hope those that sighted her the other day will go out and throughly look for you again just to be sure xLast edited: 2017-09-08 11:39:06 by Reynard

Bumping as in local paper today.

Reynard, they can often be seemingly invisible even when in the town. If you knew Frome, you'd know that not seeing her is highly probably in that part of town, there are a lot of alleyways and overgrown areas. Not helped by the wet weather, she could be sheltering from the rain and we walk right past. That is what makes it so frustrating, we know that and know she is there somewhere.
DogLostReynard
Still no positive news, it seems inconceivable that an elderly dog should disappear or travel a distance with out being seen or taken in as would be very easy to put a lead on this old girl and take her to safety.
Should be in press today Last edited: 2017-09-07 10:00:07 by Reynard

Still hoping & praying Jess is back any minute.
However - also want to mention when my dog was missing I had a couple of school girls claiming they had seen him but actually I am 99% sure they were making it up (possibly for attention) which was very frustrating & also very mean. Thank goodness he WAS actually found later that day (having been gone 4 nights) but nowhere near the area these girls claimed to have seen him.Last edited: 2017-09-06 18:08:59 by soapysue

Frustrating that she is so close, but if it is Jess who has been sighted in Victoria Park she is on the move and her area has shifted a bit.
Mary
If it was Jess in the park yesterday perhaps a BBQ somewhere safe if you think she may smell it. I do hope you find her soon.
debbie
Yes Victoria park reynard. Posters are already up around schools, done that at the weekend to be ready for Monday. Girls who seen dog say it's the one on the posters but i am unsure of the age of girls? Have thoroughly checked all of park, and surrounding area but no sign. Have also been back around local areas too
DogLostGeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland
Are there posters up at nearby schools - now the pupils are back there will be considerable extra footfall around those areas with better chance of Jess being spotted. Maybe ask schools to give out flyers to pupils & parents. Kids have phones and may be able to get a photo.
DogLostReynard
Hopefully this is Jess , is that Victoria Park? just wish someone would think to take a photo or indeed make sure any sighted dog is safe.
Good luck Debbie hopeful you will find her & soon.x

If you are not far from the river, this is an area that would need to be checked daily! Also ditches that are nearby need to be searched.
debbie
Someone has said they saw a dog at the park on its own yesterday approx 3:30pm that they thought could be jess. Was checked last night and this morning with no luck. Am going back up around the area later this morning when schools have gone in x
DogLostReynard
Sorry no more sightings of dear Jess today Debbie, hoping & praying you will get another sighting x
debbie
Still no news on jess 😔 Have been out in car between 3:45am-5:15am covering all areas and walking the river bank all along feltham area, back through Mount area, dippy and new buildings . DJK has been out through saxonvale and redone keyford gardens area but still no sign. Hopefully in local paper Thursday.

ClaireC and Jenny4 thank you, my thoughts exactly and now backed up by plotting from sightings. Owner is fantastic and has a great helper in DJK and family. We are so close now.

I agree ClaireC she cant of gone far. People need to be checking behind garages , sheds Greenhouses etc they sometimes will walk down into a tight alley but not be able to walk backwards xxxx
ClaireC
I personally think she Is not far from home on account of her age and that she is elderly and bit wobbly on legs! Have you searched ditches near you and any neighbour's with ponds, swimming pools or lakes nearby? Last edited: 2017-09-06 09:28:14 by ClaireC

Just to be careful with the scent trails, they all need to lead back home and not be able muddle her.
debbie
hi, managed to get back on!! so update is 2 possible sightings mentioned to us, 1 for yesterday at stonewall terrace and 1 for this morning at approx 9am very close to home but other side of quite busy road of a small black dog sat resting on the entrance of a driveway but got up to move and appeared to be hobbling. have been out to check all these areas again and about 50 more posters out and spoke to loads of people. lit a BBQ just before 6am this morning at caxton road area where there was a black dog seen thursday morning (found this out last night). we are lighting a BBQ again tonight late about 9pm at the front of house then am going to have another look around the local area, spraying wee as we go! have emptied hoover contents around front of house etc. have done other things too but cant remember! still open to suggestions x

I've been over to Frome this morning spreading the word, searching and dropping leaflets. Owner and Frome helper DJK have list of where I have been.

No sign, plenty of posters up, yet still people did not know about Jess. A few more do now.

Hi all, good news about the search, I've emailed Debbie to explain my situation but the long and short is I've been ill all night and probably won't make tonight's search. However my husband has offered to help so will be there with our Golden Retriever, husband called Mike and dog called Dylan. He is also going out this morning with Dylan for a look around the old Cuprinal area and field through to Culver Hill. And I suspect he have a mooch around Keyford Gardens. Wishing you luck with a good outcome and I'll be keeping an eye on proceedings from home and sorry to be a bit of a let down! X

DogLostReynard
Good thing to do Debbie, just post instructions here also and meet up with your volunteers, suggests you ask for dogs that can use their noses also to come along especially any that Jess knows.
Worth searching the area by Iceland throughly.

I would like to organise a search, but how it? Where is best to ask, would it be best on my Facebook post or on here or both?
DJK
No problem Bobble. I'm not around tomorrow in the day but have offered Debbie help after that if she needs, she only has to give me a call. Hopefully Jess will be back soon.
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
DJK thank you so much for all you are doing to help find Jess and get her home.

Somewhere like Frome local knowledge is so vital and especially so in the area she is missing.
debbie
Have put approx 80 leaflets through doors and more posters around. Had a pretty good look around old beswick area and spoke to everyone we have met, also had a look around old butler and tanner, keyford , Victoria park areas too but still nothing. Did meet lots of people who seemed to already be aware of her missing when asked so hopefully all the notices etc are working. I'm not expecting to find her well but still need to know where she is x
Unknown
Do hope shes ok xxxx
DJK
Safari. I've spoken with Debbie and like myself she is Frome born and bred so will know all the 'nooks and crannies' of which there are many given that it is a very old area. I went back down to Saxonvale very quickly this afternoon as aDebbie said she would be there but I must have just missed her. There were a few kids down there so I asked them to keep a look out for Jesd, but I must say I couldn't believe how dilapidated and rubbish strewn it has been allowed to become. I've said to Debbie call if she needs anymore help, I believe she is going to leaflet the area.Last edited: 2017-08-31 15:31:20 by DJK
DogLostReynard
Thanks DJK & Safari glad your helping Debbie & part of 'Team Jess' x
Safari
For interest, we also did a general search on part of the Cooperage and found a large number of hidden dead-end paths and open garden spaces tucked behind the houses - most you can't see from the pavement or on google maps. If talking to local residents when leafleting, it would be worth asking for advice on any they know of.
DJK
I've sorted and emailed a leaflet for Debbie.
DJK
I've now spoken to owner.
debbie
can anyone advise how to turn this poster into smaller leaflets to give out, am trying to get more on a sheet of paper?
DJK
Just got back from posturing the area, saw a couple of posters already up. Drove down the old Beswicks site, it's all open, but such a mess and overgrown in places would be difficult to find anything in there let alone a deaf dog! Hopefully we will get sightings once the dog gets hungry.
debbie
Jess still missing, got out of garden near top of locks hill opp chemist, was seen just after she got out at keyford gardens behind our house heading towards keyford but could easily have doubled back on herself. tracker dog led us down to lidl then through old beswick/Notts site and down to iceland carpark. jsut getting some more leaflet/posters printed then back out again to look. gate and dog flap laft open. updated warden and has been on local radio this morning, still no sightings at all. there maybe a drone going down to iceland area today.x thank you all for help and advice
DogLostReynard
Thanks for clarification Safari much appreciated x

Thanks DJK call owner Debbie im sure she will be greatful for your help, Bobble is also in area and im sure will update when she can, Debbie has had to go to work so needs all the help possible.
Posters may well be the key to getting sightings.
Good luck for today xLast edited: 2017-08-31 14:25:00 by Reynard
DJK
Any updates from owner yet?
DJK
OK that's great thanks, just gives me a better idea where to poster. What is the name of the road behind the property, I ask because depending on where in Locks Hill, I can look as there are quite a few back, passages/roads that perhaps non-locals wont know about all the way up Locks Hill.
Safari
Some context on the tracking done yesterday due to some comments on here. The dog used works on an scented item to discern track of interest - unfortunately there wasn't a strong identifying scent source as the dogs bed had been washed the day before and no other scent items available. Due to the urgency of the case, the tracking dog went out anyway to look for tracks leaving the property but with the risk being the track may not be from the target animal. A track was picked up on the drive which went to portway gardens and then down to Lidl and through the old Beswicks site. Because of the distance travelled, the missing dogs ill health, and the fact the missing dog was seen on the road behind the property, it was advised to poster the tracked route just in case but to continue to concentrate detailed searches on the area local to the home. It was also advised to keep walking routes to and from home and leave the gate and dogflap open.
DJK
I'll get some posters done. It would be really helpful if we knew where she used to be walked? How reliable is the sniffer dog that has been on the scene? Exactly what part of Locks Hill did she escape from and have the neighbours gardens, sheds and garages been checked?
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Just returned from looking walked up Locks Hill quite a way towards the town and explored some side roads. Went down Rossiter as far as the garages, no sign, met a few cats and an urban fox.
DJK
It's on the Facebook page for Frome Dog Walkers and also lost and found pets in Frome so hopefully get a good response, we usually do.
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
If it was her near Iceland she has managed to travel a fair bit. How reliable is this tracker please - who is it? I know not Whispa or Tiga.
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Thanks Reynard too for contacting owner and helping keep the page updated.

I have contacted owner this evening and I'll let colleagues who work in Frome know to look out for her.
DJK
That's quite a way from Locks Hill but I can see how she could easily get there. Loads of places on the old Beswicks site, might be difficult there as last time I was there it was all fenced up. If she's gone that far she could be down by the river at Willow Vale but Iceland side or by the Abbatoire. I'll keep my eye on this page and see if there are more sightings but take a look around tomorrow and put up more posters if not found in the morning and speak with the taxi drivers and get them to keep an eye out.Last edited: 2017-08-30 21:28:23 by DJK

Has any body advised owner what to do i.e. Leave gate open tonight in case she comes back, be out early morning 5.30am onwards as that is when they tend to mooch around when lost. Leaflets through local letter boxes etc. Locks Hill is not that close to fields especially if she was spotted in Keyford Gardens.Last edited: 2017-08-30 21:21:39 by DJK

Thanks DJK your local knowledge is invaluable and there are certainly lots of places in that part of Frome she could have gotten.

Please do go out and about looking for and put up some posters, I'm sure owners will be grateful for any help you can give.

Still missing
DJK
I know the area well, I have lived in Frome all my life and a fair bit of my childhood in that area. Although she may not have been walked recently she may still go where she has been in the past, lots of nooks and crannies areas and gardens in Keyford Gardens. Probably got in somewhere out of the rain we have had today. From this I am assuming it is the top end of Locks Hill she has gone missing from. Good that she has been seen even though last night. I'll wait and see if help is needed then?
DogLostReynard
DJK:, She has not been walk lately apparently as has bad legs, & they live in town but not too far from fields & Last seen in keyford gardens (BA11 1JQ approx) at 11.30 pm last nigh, but owner will update once the Dog Tracker has been.

DJK
What area of Locks Hill are we talking about please and where is she normally walked?Last edited: 2017-08-30 18:31:25 by DJK
DogLostReynard
Unfortunatly the gate was left open accidentally & have a dog flap so last seen about 11:30pm and discovered gone at 5am, Jess hasn't really been able to walk much for a while as her legs give out after a short time, about 30 posters have been put up & a tracker dog is coming around 6:30 , but no real sightings apart from possible one last night at houses near them around 11.30.
