We have a new puppy! She is called Smudge. I took her to meet the brave souls at Haddo who dragged Carly's body out of the lake. They were very pleased. We hope Carly will look down from Rainbow Bridge and help us with this new little one.I think she's helping already.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hope this does not make you to sad but i just thought it was beautiful. Treasured Friend I lost a treasured friend today The little dog who used to lay Her gentle head upon my knee And share her silent thoughts with me... She'll come no longer to my call Retrieve no more her favorite ball A voice far greater than my own Has called her to His golden throne. Although my eyes are filled with tears, I thank Him for the happy years He let her spend down here with me And for her love and loyalty. When it is time for me to go And join her there, this much I know... I shall not fear the transient dark For she will greet me with her bark. Love from sukimax. xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Carlymum, please blow Carly a big kiss from me when you scatter her ashes. Yes it will be so hard not to be sad, but sadness is part of the grieving process and we have to go there first to be able to move on. I still feel great sadness reading through this thread today, and wish I could do something to take away your hurt. She will always be in your heart and therefore she will always be with you. I was glad to be able to help, but I so wish there had been a happier outcome. Onwards and upwards. If you want to talk, PM me and I will let you have my number if you have not got it. God bless you and Carly. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

One week on. I collect Carly's ashes tomorrow and will eventually scatter them somewhere she loved to go. I know Haddo was one of her most favourite walks, but I just cannot bring myself to leave her there, so it will be somewhere else. I had not prepared myself for the actual shock of finding her dead. That's the hard bit: one can't be really positive about searching and also expectant of bad news. I know we will move on... she would want us to... but we will take a bit of her with us, inside, as we go. Sable, I am so very grateful to you in particular... you kept me going. Carly taught me lots of things in her very short life, and they centred around the importance of having a friend. She was my friend, and so are you. Bless you. Trying hard not to be sad... it will take time. Love and thanks to all, carlymum xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Carlymum, I was glad to be of help as I live quite near. when I called the estate office to see if it was Carly they had found, after reporting it earlier, the lady who answered the phone said you were there and did I wat to talk to you. I did not think you would feel like conversation, but could not really say no, so please do not even think about that. Just try and be strong now and think of the joy of the times you had her company, not any sadness. I am so glad you saw her and she was so peaceful and still so pretty. She will always be with you in your heart forever. We are so blessed to have our doggies in our lives, but sometimes it is for a short time only. I have been in that position myself and I know the heartache it brings, like many others on this site. My thoughts are with you, your family and Carly. God bless you all. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am trying to be positive, but it will take time. Just thinking of her makes me crumble, but I so want to think of her. I dont want to forget a single moment of the time we had together, and I hope this dreadful experience will help me to be kind and thoughtful, one day in the future, to someone else in the same position. I think you may have phoned the estate office, Sable, when I was there.... Im sorry I didnt speak. i had just been to see her body. She was in a bag in the tractor shelter, awaiting collection by Balmedie Crem. She actually looked better than I expected, though I didnt look too closely as i could see the fish had obviously enjoyed her company!!. It was like she had been for a dip in a swimming pool, and then decided to take a nap. Curled up. Still the beautiful glowing russet fur. The estate people were all so very nice, and as upset as I was. Her collar had started to go rusty, but I have it and her little red tag. I just want to thank everyone for all their help and support during this awful 6 weeks. I am so thankful to be one of the lucky ones who has closure, but also that I was the luckiest dogowner in the world: I was Mum to Carly. God Bless you always, til we meet again, sweetheart. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I feel thoroughly depressed and very sad. I want to cry. Tears are on the brink of flowing. How awful. Poor Carly. I know this sort of thing happens all the time after watching the website regularly, but I have been out searching, looking in the same area where Carly went missing, often, and I just feel dreadful, knowing I saw her there today, in the water. God knows how Carlymum must feel. The estate office told me they were taking Carly to the crematorium for Carlymum. How very kind of them. I still want to cry and can't think of anything else. Hi Carlymum, while walking my dogs round the lake at Haddo today, I saw the same "lump" as you, in the water and I went to the estate office to report it, as I have the same thoughts as you about it. We could both be wrong, but the estate was going to get the ranger to check it out for definite. Thinking of you and hoping for you. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It is very hard to be strong under these circumstances. You want to find her but dread what you might find. I know how awful this must be for you. I hope there is some word soon so you can have some kind of closure. It will take a lot of courage to go and look there again where you saw something in the lake. Best wishes. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I looked all around that area yesterday too but that area is impossible to access easily. It is mostly hidden by long grasses, but it is possible that it may be her, as the water in the lake is low just now. I would give the estate office a call and see if anyone can get in there an find out for definite. It would put your mind at ease and if you have pointed out a particular object in a particular place it gives them something to work on.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Sable for looking. Yes I have been round Haddo practically every day. makes me feel near to her, wherever she is. Sadly today there was a lump floating towards the outer part of the grasses between the concrete bridge and the corner(grassy, not the wooden bridge corner) Could not get near enough to get a good view, but it wasnt a log, and is the same size, shape and colouring as Carly, and in the area she would have gone into. Am too upset to tell the estate or ranger, bot they should see it too, and then I hope they may drag it out and see what it is. It just made me feel numb. have not yet heard whether they have been round to the kellylake yet, but there was a shooting party today... the last of the season.... so the earliest they would go would be tomorrow (fri) and if it snows it may be even later. But they have promised to phone, whether they find her or not. So I shall try and be patient.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

HI Carlymum, I went all around the lake today again looking, and I just said to my hubby, "I bet Carly's owner has been around here dozens of times". It was just so sad to think what has become her, and I came home thoroughly depressed. It was that grey sort of a day anyway but the stillness today made it very eery, and I just kept thinking of where she could be. The lake is quite shallow just now, but the streams going to the river Ythan are still fast and deep. I hope you have some news soon. Best wishes.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to Mrs Murrays and Gamrie doghomes again. They are still on the lookout. Also spoke to dogwarden, and to Haddo Estate and Aberdeenshire park ranger, David gordon. He is optimistic that she would not have gone as far as the sea, but has probably been carried down as far as the Kellylake, which is a fishing lake deep into the private part of the haddo estate. The Haddo Estate are sending 2 Gamekeepers with dogs(lots), when the shooting season finishes later this week, to follow the course of both weir streams, down to the Kellylake, and look round it too. I have been further reassured by the dogwarden that if someone has her, she will be picked up the first visit to the vet. So, rather perversely, I hope, if she's still alive, that she gets ill soon! Other than that, we have no news to report. It has become just too upsetting for the children to keep a very overt search on the go, although i am still very much on the hunt, and always will be. But for their sakes, we went and laid flowers where Carly disappeared, and have said our goodbyes.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Carlymum, if you have looked all down that area beside the river, unless she has now been swept out to sea, you seemed to have covered the area. It could be that she has been caught on something under the water, by her collar. This not knowing what has happened to her is so difficult to bear. You will be looking forever, but such a lot of people know about it in the area, I think a lot of people will be on the lookout. Thinking of you. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just noticed there is a beagle still listed as missing further back on the websitr, from Lossiemouth. She was also a microchipped bitch, and was about the same age as Carly at the time. there seems to be absolutely no news fof her either. Lossie is not that far away... I wonder if the 2 are linked? a massive longshot perhaps, but desperation rules!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Sable, Yes I have looked down as far as am able, down to the woods at the bottom. also exercised my 'right to roam' and have gone into and along the woods behind in the distance from where she went missing. I had a bad day today.... Its the month anniversary of her disappearance. Part of me is trying to look and remain hopeful, and part of me is trying to bring the closure we as a family all need, especially the children, facing the possibility that we may never know what happened to her. I'm trying to protect my children and my dog. Its really difficult to do. But I cant say goodbye....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Carlymum, there was a very fast current up at that end of the lake, at that time and place where she was lost, so she could have been swept away very quickly. I feel for you so much. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but with heartache added. Have you tried having a look down the banks of that stream where the lake goes down to join the Ythan river? If you do be very careful. It is dangerous and very fast flowing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thank you everyone, you are being so supportive. i just feel such a wimp in contrast. What hasnt helped is that i lost my brother the previous year in an accident, about the same time of year, and it brings it all back. Its so utterly awful to think someone may well know where she is, and may even be reading this sight, and cant see the misery they have caused our family. i dont want to punish or even know who they are... I just want her safe back. they can just leave her with a friend, the warden ,a police station, a dog home, a vet, or even tied up to our gate, i dont mind. just please bring her home. and if you know where her body is, think the unthinkable, please tell us too. We will never have closure unless you do. i keep phoning people, but, as you say, it is soul destroying to get nil response. I really do think she may have gone under the ice, but then why has noone found her body. And could she have struggled out and then been picked up? It was minus 5 the night she disappeared. If she froze, why no body? This is a popular area. If down a fox hole, why are the ranger and gamekeeper dogs(heaps of them) not finding her... she'd be smelling by now. I know the dogwarden has even visited local farms to alert them. But we will hang in there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm miles away from you in Kent but hope and pray that your lovely girl will show her pretty face very soon. You mention that there have been no sightings of Carly whatsoever but this really isn't that unusual, as other Helpers will confirm. Pepper, the Rottie went missing on the 17th Dec and there wasn't a SINGLE sighting of her until yesterday, when she was taken into the rescue centre and reunited with her family. She was skinny, filthy, smelly and very hungry but fine physically. And, bearing in mind, the size of a Rottie, you wouldn't think that possible, would you? You and your family are doing great - just keep it up. Just about everything crossed for you 'this end'. Hope it won't be long until you get the telephone call you've been waiting for. Come on sweetheart, time you were back home!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, just registered although I always keep popping in and out of this site. I live in Moray (an hour away), so will keep an eye peeled for Carly in this neck of the woods. Also have a friend near Ellon and will alert her as she walks her dogs daily at Haddo. She in turn will let all her doggie friends/dog clubs in the area know to keep an eye out for her. Carly I noticed, has quite an unusual white triangle on her left side, so should be easily recognised. Hopefully she will be home soon - don't give up, keep the faith!xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Carlymum - you must NEVER give up hope - she is chipped so you still have a chance. I lost my Maggie on 15 November and there hasn't been so much as a peek since but she is chipped and I wont give up hoping that I will get her back. Poster everywhere, live with the crank calls and the idiots, hassle anyone you can think of from bin and post men to the Highways Agency guys - anyone who travels round the roads - send posters to every vet in the surrounding counties and keep going. Unless you have evidence to the contrary she is still alive and out there somewhere - I know it's hard but have a large gin, a good cry, breath deeply and get back out there - GOOD LUCK and fingers crossed for you that you get some news soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I was taking my dogs along the beach in Aberdeen for a walk (leads on) and I saw a young man with a beagle and immediately checked it out, but it was not Carly. I double checked the picture of her when I got home and it was not her, but I will be forever looking just like you, although in the back of my head I don't believe she is out there. I am so very sorry. it is one of those horrendous things that you think will NEVER happen to you. I know they do happen. I have walked the walk. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a lovely phonecall from reunited Honey's Mum, to say a taxi driver in Aberdeen may have seen a man with a beagle at about 9pm last Fri night, in George street. The beagle had a lead but poss. not a collar. I have seen a man with a beagle in Drummond Str. a few times, so I know there is a beagle owner there.... but just in case, please can everyone look out for a beagle in Aberdeen with this man. or any other man. And if this beagle-owner can come forward to say he was in George street about that time on Fri night, then it will put us out of our misery (What am I saying... its all misery.) Having said that, Sable, I do think you are probably right. She is such a friendly dog, it is inconceivable that no one would have seen her by now, and given her last sighted position and the fast flowing water, she could have been carried away v. quickly. I have been telling the kids that Jesus thought she was so beautiful that he wanted her for an Angel, so he bent down that day and scooped her up to be his special Angel for all time. Soppy, but a nice way to think of it. I would still have loved there to be a miracle though. Might the taxi driver be it ??????Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am so sorry. You must be heartbroken apart from the fact you will never have closure if you don't hear or see something of her. I can't help thinking that she has gone into the water and under the ice that day she disappeared. As she was not in the habit of running off and was seen last at the lakeside, it seems the most logical answer. I know it seems the most awful, and the worst scenario but it makes sense, for there to be no sightings. If she was a friendly dog she would have gone to someone if she was wandering around on her own. I would be frightened to let your other dog, Honey, into the lake again if it was me. You just never know. There is a very strong current at the far end and it is dangerous. I just wish there was some news of some sort to put your mind at rest.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still absolutely nothing. No sightings, no news. Its like she just vanished. Im having to face the fact now that we wont see her again. The children are heartbroken. We are trying to get on with life and cope as best we can. Thanks to everyone for helping. We still pray for a miracle....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks carlymum for registering and updating us. If owners with dogs missing in the same area can team up with the postering and searching it will really help. Good luck in looking for Carly. Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Keelah, we've had Carly on the radio, the newspapers(incl. national) and the local paper has done a special article on her. The dog Warden phoned today to say the police are starting to get a bit suspicious as 4 or 5 pedigree dogs, all microchipped and wearing collars, like carly, have all gone missing in the same 30 mile area over christmas. But I dont know if they will do anything other than just be suspicious. i think our lovely dog warden is trying to chivvy them along a bit? Do hope so. She's lovely. Have heard from a dogwalking pal today who met one of the 2 people we saw out with their dog within 5 mins of losing carly.... and the lady saw nothing of carly either. Still want to trace the large man wearing a red jacket who came up from the woods with 2 big dalmaitions, just as we lost Carly, just in case he saw anything.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for putting up the poster.Sable. I phoned round the dog homes in Aberdeen and Gamrie.... nothing. Its very hard to believe no-one has seen anything of her, or even, dare I say it, found her body. We can never have closure unless we find her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, there is a picture on the National Pet Register. I will be going to the Methlick Vet this afternoon so I will put a poster up there. I am so sorry Carly has not come home to you. What an awful start to the New Year. I would be very wary of that lake from now on if I were you. I never realised how dangerous it was until I walked the whole length of it looking for Carly. Thank you Sable and Julie for your help. Im on the National pet reg. now, but I was not able to post a picture as my computer is playing up again (now of all times) Will try and put some posters out to some local vets. If you are able to do the same, it would be a great help. Again my heartfelt thanks. I think we have done our best, but i do feel I have let her down. I only hope, wherever she is, she's happy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Carlymum, you just never know if she has followed someone and they have kept her. It does happen and people do not realise the heartache they are causing by doing this. Was she out of your sight long enough for her to have followed someone without you noticing, or could she have gone after a rabbit and then got lost? Still, you have been looking for her so long now that she should have turned up somewhere. Any decent person would have given her up by now you would think, and there is not a lot of dog stealing up here. If she is in the area and someone has kept her, she will be found eventually if you keep up the publicity. Someone will notice. Post it on all the internet sights who have lost dog lists. Here is one of them. http://www.nationalpetregister.org/mp.php You can post a picture of Carly on there too. Poster all the vets in the north east of Scotland too, as people going there will see it and keep it in mind. I will certainly keep my eyes peeled for her. I Walk the dogs at Haddo quite a lot so I will be on the lookout. Best wishes and good luck.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you, Sable, for helping. We are just so very sad. Just cant believe it could happen. I am trying to think that, as it was her very favourite place in the world, it was a good place for her to go, but there is never a good place for such a young dog to die... and i keep clinging to the slight hope that someone thought she had been abandoned over christmas (as so many dogs sadly are) even though she was wearing a collar, and they decided to take her home to be their new dog. She is certainly a very friendly and pretty dog. She made us all very happy in her short life, and we are thankful for that. Can I just appeal to that person, if they have taken Carly home, to search their conscience and take her to a police station,a vet or anywhere safe... we wont see you punished or anything, we just want carly back.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My husband, myself and our dogs went all around the lake area this morning again but there is no sign of anything. Some bits are inaccessible, but we did a good search of the area around the water edge. If she did go under the ice, I suppose she could be anywhere now as there has been so much heavy rain that the current may have swept her away. Poor Carly. What a heartbreak . The not knowing is the worst feeling on earth. So sorry Carlymum. I wish I could do something more to help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It is good of them to have a look around the lake area but it is not necessarily a main priority for them. They will let you know if they find something hopefully, sooner rather than later. You would be hoping for that person to be very vigilant. Would they be, if nothing hits them straight in the face? It would be a good idea to go and thoroughly check it out yourself, with a fine toothcomb several times. It does look like the most likely scenario unfortunately. It was the first place I searched because there are so many drownings nowadays. I am going to go again today and search that area. I am so sorry. I feel for you, and I can't stop thinking about poor Carly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoke to DW yesterday and also Estate office. They are thinking it poss. she did go under the ice. Estate worker will have good look in particular area and around lake where she vanished. have not heard back from them... is this good or bad? Will also check pheasant holding pens again, in case she went in there today.. they have been checked reg. anyway. Police say today that dognapping is practically unheard of up here, so they would discount that as a theory. NECR radio are announcing her lost one more time, but it appears most of the experienced minds are now drawing only one conclusion. Thank you everyone for your help. Think we have only very weak straws to cling to now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I went all around the area yesterday where the dog went missing, and did a search with my dogs. The area is well postered so I think everyone will be on the lookout for her as it is a popular place for people who walk dogs. Unfortunately a HUGE area which spreads for miles, full of forestry and fields, so she may be lost. Come on Carly, where are you?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
