Yeay!!!!!Brilliant news. I am sooooooo thrilled that this gorgeous boy Marley has been reunited with his mum (owner) and sister! Well done to the person that handed him into the kennels. At least he had somewhere warm, food and a dry place to stay. I am soooo delighted, hugs and kisses to him. Stay safe now Marley. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Wow I am sooooo pleased for you Leonie, and you mum, AND MARLEY of course!!! How wonderful to see DL helpers leaping in to the breech to help a "visiting" dog in our area get back to safety. There is no substitute for local knowledge, as has been proven here again! Leonie please can you let us know how you get on with the kennels and the fact that the microchip wasn't picked up? Happy days for another DL dog............well done everyone!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is lovely to see. perhaps an escape proof harness for future. Once you've read the book about Marley's namesake you'll see the funny side of him escaping. At least he's home safe.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What fabulous news, i have been thinking of Marley constantly i know gentle these lovely dogs are and how bewildered Marley would have been to have been alone! My Goldie today spent the day with my elderly father whilst i took my mum out for shopping trip, anyway Milly managed to scale the garden wall and get out, my father was almost in tears when he discovered she had "disappeared" he knows how special she is to me and only 15 months old and very friendly, anyway a passer by saw him upset and confused (alzheimers) and asked what the problem was upon which went off to hunt for the "large sandy coloured dog" described (what an insult he couldnt remember that she is a Golden Retriever bless him, she was found half a mile away (its a small village)sat in middle of road just waiting to be found apparently! Thrilled & relieved to be found and spoken to and followed the wonderful lady back to my parents house, my relieved dad almost kissed the lady and the dog! Otherwise it would have been another "lost dog" for doglost, Grateful thanks to "Mary" this lovely lady, a happy ending thank goodness but shows how easily it can happen. Marley & owner will have an extra special sleep tonight now he is safe!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Excellent news! I have just read the email about him missing and was pulling my finger out to do the posters in our local vets. Very pleased. DogLost did a fabulous job in getting my stolen EBT back last year - a true labour of love as it certainly is not in the slightest bit profitable for Jayne or her helpers! Let your friends know about DogLost please (and no, I don't work for them!)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Marley was named after Bob Marley! My sister liked the name! I got the book 'Marley and Me' for Christmas and will enjoy reading it. From the reviews I have heard it is great and the dog sounds just like our Marley! I will be sure to post when I know what happened to the chip. And I will make sure he is regularly checked to ensure the chip is still in place.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So glad you've got Marley back. No doubt you'll be getting the vet to check his chip, and getting him rechipped if necessary. I'd be very interested to know why his chip was missed, so perhaps you could post that up here when you've found out. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That is such wonderful news. I've owned Goldies for almost 30 years and it really tugs at my heart strings whenever I see a missing one on here. I do my best to help look for all lost dogs, if possible. Is Marley named after the book 'Marley and Me'. I know that was about a Lab but it was a fantastic book. Welcome home MarleyxxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We will definitely check out what has happened to the chip - a worrying thought that his identification could not be verified. Mum is very happy to have her boy back. Thanks everyone.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Leoni, great to see Marley is back home. I had a goldie for 13 years myself. Owners should never rely on a chip alone when checking with rescues, which is why it is so important that they are contacted and visited in person as least once a week. Thanks to everyone who has helped in the search for Marley and a big welcome home boy. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Welcome back Marley. Stay safe now. Would suggest that you get your own vet to do a full body scan to check for that chip, they do sometimes migrate. Other than that, check about haveing another one done. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Marley is back!!!!! It was him in the kennel! Good thing I called because they could not find his microchip and his collar had slipped so they had no idea who he was! But he is safe and sound with my mum and his sister Shishka. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR HELP. What a wonderful website. It is such a comfort to know that there are so many people out there who are willing to help. Thank you everyone very very much. Best wishes for a happy 2008. Leonie. Now, how do I move Marley to 'dogs reunited'?...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I just looked on the East Devon council website under the section about dogs. They said that most dogs are taken to Drum Kennels. I called these kennels and told them about Marley - they said a golden retriever was brought in last night with no collar! They are going to call me back in a minute once they've checked to see he matches the description. Let's hope it is him...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My mum unfortunately does not have Internet access where she is, only her mobile phone. I have texted her a picture of Marley should she need it. She is making posters but these will not have a picture on unfortunately. I have just had a call from her to say there was a sighting of him yesterday and they are going off to investigate. The sighting was only two hours after he disappeared - outside a pub near Sidmouth. He was possibly heading up the road so at least he was away from the cliffs. I will call the council to inform them and see if there is anyone else I should let know. Thank you everyone for all your good wishes. LeonieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi i really hope and pray that he is found soon, i take it that mum is going poster mad? Has she got access to the site and is she able to print them off? I am sure he is ok, someone should know where he is and probably doesn't know where his owner is. My mother too has a goldie and use to breed them, so because of their sweet nature i am sure he's ok and in the warm. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I just spoke to my mum and told her to tell the coastguard and to find out about local kennels. I told our vet, who is located here in Surrey. I do not think my mum has informed any vets in the area. It is diffiult because I am limited to how much I can talk to her. I feel completely useless back here. I am about to go to my mums house to check her answerphone for her, and arrange forwarding of calls / answerphone messages. I will also look up details of the microchip company and inform them. THank you everyone.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Leonie ~ have you told the coastguard please? Can you list here the vets and rescues you have told? The local kennels for strays there will be Foredowne at Newton Abbot, but over the holiday period any dogs may well hae been taken in by local kennels. Please get Marleys story in the local paper ~ the Express and Echo is the local Exeter one, but someone on here will be able to advise you about a more local to Sidmouth/Branscombe one I am sure. There is a lot of local help on here which I am sure you will find useful. Have you told the microchip company that Marley is missing??Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear everyone, Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and help. Marley is still missing. My mum was supposed to be coming back from Devon earlier today (3rd Jan) but due to losing Marley she is extending her stay. We live in the Guildford area so Marley is not familiar with the area that he is in. The local police have been called, as well as local farmers, walkers, neighbours etc. I have informed our vet. Marley slipped his collar, so has no id on him, but he is microchipped. I have driven over to my mother's house so see if there are any messages on her phone but no luck. My number is 07929195711. My mum's mobile number is 07956867027. She is in Devon but has very poor reception. She is with a friend and our other dog, Shishka. Shishka is Marley's sister and misses him very much. They are very special dogs as they were born from our previous dog, Amber, who died after having them. We love them so much and hope that wherever Marley is, he is safe and warm and finds his way back very soon. Thank you so much everyone for everything you do. This is a wonderful website and I hope to be able to help other people in future. With love and thanks. Leonie xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have since found out that Marley went missing near Berry Barton near some shacks in the woods on the cliffs, above the wreck of the Napoli. It is between Branscombe and Sidmouth. He went missing at 9.30 am on Thursday 3rd January. He slipped his collar so does not have one on but is microchipped....message from owners daughter. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I live in Beer which is only a few miles from Sidmouth. Do we know exactly where Marley went missing from? There are alot of walks around Sidmouth, both along the coast and some in wooded areas further inland. Once we have a photo I will help to poster. Come home soon Marley.
