Found on www.dogpages.org.uk : Young Springer Spaniel Bitch - Found yesterday afternoon at Gresley Rovers Football Club, Church Gresley running on pitch. No tag or chip. As I already have 5 dogs the local warden took it to Lakeside Kennels, Wcyhnor, Burton on Trent. - worth a call i guess as chips can be missed, good luck x

Might it be worth going over old ground and re-postering the area around her home? Maybe with 'still missing' so that people know that you are still looking for her? If she is in the area, her new 'owners' might be more relaxed about taking her out by now, and an influx of posters could just be the catalyst that inspires someone to let you know that a neighbour has a newish dog that looks just like Penny!

Hi, Thought you might like to know that a letter from Penny's owners appeared in the "Shooting Times" today and I quote: Thanks to Doglost On the afternoon of 6th January our five-month-old springer spaniel Penny was stolen from our garden. We registered the theft with Doglost the following morning and by lunchtime people from all over the county were putting up posters. The help we received was outstanding. I spoke to one of the vets at Metheringham yesterday, and I sincerely hope other vets are more passionate about the cause!!! I printed off a Vets Get Scanning Letter and took it in also posting one up on the board there.

It would be nice if there was an official DogLost letter we could all print off and take to our vets about scanning all new dogs. That way it would look more official and maybe get them to act. At the moment they just seem to think we are battie old housewives with nothing better to do. Sorry Kev I didn't mean to use Penny's page to have a moan.

Hi Ashmark, the key is getting vets to scan all new dogs. Bruce Forsyth set up a campaign called Vets Get Scanning, for those of you that dont already know about it, his daughter had her dogs stolen and as a result they set this campaign up. I will do a poster for my vet and hopefully it will raise awareness of the importance.

Don't give up hope Kev. She is microchipped and that will hopefully be the key to getting her back. If someone has taken her in then they will eventually take her to the vets. In the meantime it is really important to keep pestering all vets to scan every new dog that comes in to the surgery. Fingers crossed you will get her back soon.

At least we all know now that this isnt penny we can move on and start somewhere fresh. Jude and Kev keep hold of hope and dont give up. If you look at the many that have come home on the reuntited pages you will see that we must never give up. Hello, Having been out for several days in the area of Randall Way looking for Penny, I can confirm that the dog sighted is a male and belongs to a workman from a building site in the area. This dog has been left to roam and because it has been seen in the streets off Randall Way and in the fields adjacent, this led to the confusion. The dog warden has been informed and will talk to the gentleman in question and ask him to keep his dog under control. I'm very sorry this dog was not Penny. PL

HI Jude and Kev try not to get to down. Did leave a couple of messages with your daughter on Friday, hope you got them. I spoke to Nigel (the dogwarden) and he is going back out on Monday. Nobody has actually managed yet to determine whether this spaniel is male or female, but lets hope it is Penny. Cav any anyone else that is reading this, make sure that where you poster the council allow it. BUT if they will allow you to do it in Hartsholme park then poster away, and anywhere else that we can think of. Jude and Kev when you go over (if you have to again) please take over some old clothing that belongs to either of you and drag it around the area. If this dog is hungry try and take a cooked chicken with you aswell, also lead, collar, water, blanket, bandage, and anything that she may recognise by smell that is hers. we got to Randell way just before 9am and spent just over 7 hours driving, walking, whistling, postering and stopping every person, on every street. she has vanished. at one point i near just stopped the car and sobbed. no-one spoke on the way home. we really had got our hopes up and were convinced we were on our way to get penny and bring her home. she was seen at approx 4pm 18th jan in the field by the printers on Randall way with 2 other dogs. and later at about 6pm on morley ave but ran off scared when approached. she cant be far!! it didnt feel right today...she cant have vanished into thin air! any ideas would be so appreciated. we are going to contact the local radio station tomorrow and try to get hold of as many vet numbers in that area (this was tricky today as they all seem to be under different area codes that dont coincide with the areas they are addressed) Better spirits tomorrow :( jude xx

I've been following Penny's story and have put up posters around Norfolk and am overjoyed she has been sighted. I have a good friend who lives near Retford, she is going to poster some of her local pubs tonight and take her dogs out in the area tomorrow..are we still concentrating on the fields close to Randall way? or have there been sightings anywhere else? sorry I can't get there myself this weekend but I wish you the best of luck tomorrow and hope to see Penny in the blue very soon. Jude has been to see the lady that reported the sighting. She has told Jude where she saw her, Have spoken to loads of dog walkers in that area and had a 99.9% confirmation that this is Penny after he was shown a poster.

Can't stop thinking about Penny as I have springers and I know what lovely dogs they are so I have postered Kings Lynn and will do Downham Market in Norfolk this weekend (hopefully she will be back by then) but just on the off chance, in the Fre Ads paper this week it says 6 months old, very pretty (as Penny is) good with kids and other dogs, house move forces sales ?150 07039 558293 Spalding, more than likely very genuine but maybe worth a go!! maybe someone who thought she/he'd keep an eye open for her and wanted to have the phone number? But I'd have thought they'd also realise the poster was better staying where it was and them writing it down. So *might* have been a rather stupid if well meaning person I suppose? bit of a strange thing happened today so i would like some advice plz. i went into a local pub to put up a poster and the landlady said that someone had taken one in last week already HOWEVER at the weekend someone came in and took it down and took it with them. she doesnt know who it was but she has put a new one up and said she will make sure no one takes it. i thought this was a bit strange...why would someone take it down and take it with them??.....any suggestions???

Hi All - An Amazing team effort from everyone ! I know I am a little way down from Lincs but am more than happy to put posters up around the Thetford/Brandon/Kings Lynn area in Norfolk if you think this would be useful? All my springers are keeping their paws crossed for Penny's safe return x

The canine hydrotherapy pool people at Sturton by Stow will gladly give out posters to all their (many!) customers I'm sure. I can take some up when I go there next week if no one else has been by then? I left some posters at the garage on Caenby Corner today.

topjanner - welcome on board. good to have an update. yes, the people on here are rather amazing aren't they? please keep up the postering, as far and wide as you can go, it's hard work but it does work and you need to make sure you have the area covered, talk to everyone, spread the word and here's to a swifty reunion with penny. if you need inspiration, click on the dogs reunited page and read some of the crackers we have had recently, search for merlin, yiftaki, blue, ice, all of which have come back because the owners kept on postering and refused to give up. we are all here if you need usx

hello everyone this is jude, kev's girlfriend. i have spent another day in saxilby today hoping to get more leads on a possible sighting however she may have been mistake for a local brittany. i will shoot over to dunham bridge tomorrow with posters and also see lynn in the country store and get one put up there. can i just say how we have been moved to tears by the kindness and compassion we have been shown by complete strangers on here. i read this thread everyday in complete amazement. thank you so much for everything everyone xx

Have emailed to all contacts out Gainsborough & Hemswell cliff way. It may also be a really good idea to ask the men on the toll bridge at Dunham-on -trent A57 if the could display / hand out posters of Penny to people coming in to Lincoln.. anyone in that area? If not I can go at the weekend. Also has anyone postered in Sturton-by-Stow and other villages close to Saxilby??

I live in LN6 area, will keep my eyes open and I've sent the poster to everyone I know via email and will also contact local farmer I know in Doddington area. Hi Heidi, how are you? It would be great if you could cover over that way for us aswell. There are so many tiny villages. I have mananged to print off about 50 but for some reason the printer has started to print in stripes (and thats with a new cartridge)..anyway Paul is putting some up in the messes at Waddo today but has had to take the car. so I will hopefully get around sleaford, and the rest when he gets back. Hi, I live in Skelly, will keep my eyes open when out with my dogs & will spread the word. I'll be going to the Birchwood tomorrow so will look around there. Please stay positive. Two of our dogs were taken in Sept last year, it took five days, all of the usual postering, phone calls etc, many hundreds of miles in the car & an article in the Lincolnshire echo, but we eventually got them back. We'll help in any way we can.

Radio Lincs interviewed me re their Mogs & Dogs food donation campaign and I mentioned Penny. I asked them to high light dog theft amongst other things re the breed. Im thinking we need to go further afield now.

Thanks Cesky that would be great. Can anyone get up as far as St Giles, Waitrose, Fire station, and that area?? It may help to go as far up as (cant remember road name) but again has major car sales rooms (Honda, Chrysler etc) Mcdonalds, and maybe even the hospital area if they will allow the carpark to be done?? Stoneacre (Kia/Fiat dealers) on Dixon Street are very dog friendly - didn't bat an eyelid when I told them the two requirements for my new car were air con and enough flat space in the back for dog crates - I'm sure they would put up a poster.

WOW you guys have been busy. We have visited and left/put up posters at all the local petrol stations, Asda, Spar, Chippy, Ingham rescue, Collingham Vets, Baileys feeds in Collingham, TFM Feeds, Swinderby rescue, Spoken to the Postie, dustman, Dog wardens, RSPCA, Black horse farm, the Police (again). Hopefully there should be an artical in the Newark Advertiser and Lincolnshire Echo. Has been on Lincoln FM. Just to mention a few. Will be venturing towards Newark tomorrow. I know there has been lots of cross posting going on through all of our forums. thank you very very much for all of your help from all of us.

welcome on board owner. I cannot stress enough how important the posters are. While recognising the need to be responsible and remaining within the law in terms of flyposting please poster as much as you can. Often it is the case that dogs are stolen and then they wait for the posters to go up. consider all the places people would congregagate - pubs, takaways, video shops, petrol stations, supermarkets, leisure centre, the corner shop etc. there are helpers on here who are local to you who can share their expertise with you. please keep putting the posters up, as far afield as you can. keep us updated!

You will pleased to know that the powers of DogLost communication are working well - I have now been notified by three different sources that Penny is missing. :) Do let us know where you have postered - that will help others concentrate their initial efforts in new areas. No havn't done Park View vets yet, I'm stuck at Riseholme all day but have started to poster round LN2, will by vets tonight. I have updated front page of local rescue charity website 'Four Legged Friends' with Penny's details and picture (http://fourleggedfriends.bravehost.com). We get a lot of hits from people all round lincoln looking for dogs. Also keeping an eye out for Max (missing 10/11/07) while looking for Penny.

Hi all, Many thanks for all of your help so far. We are on Whisby Road opposite the Ibis hotel LA fitness just up from the Pride of Lincoln pub. Yes the vets have been checked and we have spoken to the dog shelter but will pay a visit shortly. Penny is a timid pup who doesnt do strangers very well. All evidence points to the fact that she was taken rather than escaped. We have thoroughly checked the surrounding areas including all the ditches along Whisby Road. I'll give out posters at my class (2 minutes away) tonight and do some postering near the hykeham roundabout. Some class members in the area have been told...I'll try and do the rest today. I assume hann w has done Park View vets? Has Ingham shelter been checked in person? I can visit wednesday if she hasn't been found by then.

Sorry if there is an obvious answer to this, but can you give some more information on which part of Whisby Road Penny went missing from? Whisby Road is a very long road, with a large number of industrial units at one end, extending across the main Lincoln by-pass, through countryside to village roads beyond. Obviously as large an area as possible needs to be covered, but it would be good to pin down a starting point.
