I am so pleased and amazed they came back twice!! i agree with the posts totally,,but they are down as chipped and hopefully the owners will take the advice as its meant?? but will also not be put off posting again if they are gone again,,fingers crossed -) Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good to see these two home Again, it is a shame that they dont have a chip & also that owner doesn't appear to have posted at any time. It's hard not to critise when we spend so much time helping people look for missing dogs. Maybe if anyone is nearby they could call in to see how they are doing & maybe help owner to see where they escape from-you never know they may appreciate some advise.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

daisymay66 I agree your concentration can slip But twice now these dogs have gone missing and that should have alerted the owner to be more carefully and the whole purpose of a tag is so the dog can be identified and owners can be contacted too, it is a legal requirement to have a dog tag. and if I was lucky enough to have had my dogs returned unharmed I would make sure, One they would be better supervised and Two a tag just in case. Having all the ID on a dog will help in getting a dog back, there are many dogs in pounds now who may well belong to an owner who loves them, but because they are not Tag or Chipped they get put down after 7 days in some pounds because of the lack of funds. So if you love your dog make sure it has all the ID to get it back safe to you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well just look at this site and it proves how many do lose their dogs-My own dogs have appeared on this website quite often I assure you! Gates left open, wind blowing down fences etc etc as Daisymay says lets not be too judgemental on the victims.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, buffysmum, I know I was lucky with them. It was only because the area I live is very rural, and most people around knew them. My dogs are tagged and microchipped, but that only helps (maybe) if they're found. I still think anyone can lose a dog - it doesn't mean you don't care, just that the concentration wavered a bit.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Stay safe now Jet. Missing once is bad enough, but twice!!! What can I say? Just pleased that you have been found unharmed. Have now notified all Lab Rescues AGAIN.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Glad that both dogs are home safe and well AGAIN, I agree, ALL dogs, no matter of the breed, be it pedigree, cross or mongrel should be chipped AND tagged, my boy is tagged, chipped and tattooed and I check that his tag is secure on a regular basis, not because of what we paid for him (Dogue de Bordeaux) but because I love him to absolute pieces and would be devastated if he went missing, that being said, I'm sure (I hope) the labbies owners will, after this second escape tag their dogs. Welcome home you two xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Daisymay66 all I can say to you is you were very lucky. As Millies Mum has said there is no excuse for not tagging your dogs. If you don't feel that chipping is right for your dogs them get them tattooed or do both, it will increase the chances of getting your dog back.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I had a similar problem with several hounds. Solved problem by getting together with a couple of friends and renting a field which we securely fenced and are able to let dogs run with no worry. We also sub-let field to others with similar problems. There must be lots of farmers out there with small fields that aren't being used who would welcome a regular income.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, we all know that two or more dogs can lead each other astray but there is NO good reason why Jet and Kipper don't have ID tags on their collars. Apart from anything else, it is a legal requirement! And, as many of us are aware on DL, scanners and microchips are not failproof. Welcome home Jet and Kipper!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Don't be too hard on the owner - I had 2 setters like this. I could never let them off the lead at the same time, despite all training. Individually fine, but if both were loose, they'd sort of look at each other and run. All training forgotten. Several times I risked them - when one was very old for example, but always 'lost' them. They'd come home on their own eventually, sometimes after 24 hours, but I was lucky they were never run over or shot (I live in rural area). My solution was to walk one on the lead and one off - shame, and not so much fun for them - but I never solved the problem. BTW, one is dead now - old age - and the other is very very old.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yep agree with everything that as been said with buffysmum and Jazzie, they are such lucky dogs and they need an owner that will look after there welfare and that is up to the owner as they are supposed to be the top dog, even new owners should make sure they will do all that is right for there dogs, and the one thing that a good owner would do at first is make sure that there dog as all the ID it will need just in case accident dose happen and they do, but once bitten so to speak, and you learn your lesson, well some do anyway and with all the comments last time about getting the dogs TAGS what more do the owners want, SO PLEASE OWNERS GET THE DOGS COLLIERS WITH TAGS AND LEAVE THEM ON ALL THE TIME, UNTIL YOU HAVE THEM PROPERLY TRAINED. Welcome home again. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ditto. This owner clearly needs to learn that he may not be so lucky a third time. Please get a tag for your dogs asap!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Im glad these two are back.....but, maybe if the local authorities used and enforced the current laws on stray dogs, specifically repeat strayers, the owners would be a little more careful about tagging and letting their dogs roam!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How lucky are these two, and more to the point how lucky are the owners. Corbiere, I do hope you ment for the owners to go to training classes! Thee dogs are no different to lots of other dogs and just need firm but fair training but then as humans the owners need a stiff talking too. Welcome back Jet & Kipper. Hope your owners start bein responsible.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

These dogs are just pups so prob very hard to control, esp if these are new dog-owners [which it sounds as if they may be LOL]. Also I found that with more than one dog they flick into a 'pack' mentality. Hope these two get tagged and only let off lead one at a time til they learn their manners... if found again. Hope DW gives them some lessons - and they go to obedience training!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Someone else who hasn't learnt from the last time this pair went missing. Still no tags. If they get rehomed this time because they are not scanned I do hope they get a tag - IT IS THE LAW but then some people think they are above it.Some people don't deserve dogs if they can't keep them safe. Sorry if it offends but if the cap fits. Stay safe Jet and Kipper.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done Millies Mum got to say that not all DW are the same and some do more then others that goes across the board in all walks of life, and some DW do it for the love of animals and other well it is just a job. Well done to Lab rescue for matching them up, also another lesson is that the more people get there dog chip and tag then they may well have been home sooner. and to keep the tag on at all times with there collier just in case they get out. So I'm hoping that they have now got both chip and a tag. Welcome home you two.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Brilliant work by Millie's Mum and Lab Rescue. Yes it cannot be stressed enough to go further a field when searching and contacting DW's out the area where they have gone missing. Pearl recently reunited Patterdale ended in a kennels where her owner would not have thought of contacting because of the distance. Jet and Kipper's owners are so lucky to get them back. Well done again Millie's Mum. Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A VERY BIG well done to you Millies Mum !! Without your actions these two dogs would probably have been rehomed , possibly split up and never reunited with their owners. What a different outcome there could have been if it you had'nt sent that poster !!! Its a such a wonderful feeling when you get a dog home! Also well done to Lab resue for matching them up to Millie's Mum's poster. Its a shame bordering Dog Wardens dont liase with each other as this must happen time and time again !!!welcome home Jet and Kipper and stay safe from now on xx Pam Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Millie's Mum !!!! Very well done indeed!! Doesn't it make you feel good to have sent that one special poster. Just goes to show, you never know where these dogs will turn up, so no posters are a waste of time. So pleased that Jet and Kipper are now safely home. Welcome home the pair of you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just received another email from Lab Rescue. It would appear that Jet and Kipper were picked up by the Dorset Dog Warden on the borders of Somerset/Dorset and he or she didn't contact the Somerset DW. These dogs were reported missing to the police and Somerset DW when they first went missing. Not a lot of hope is there? The worrying thing is, that Lab Rescue was aked to rehome them. Is this a lesson for us all, to contact DW's over a wider area. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Big Pat on the Back Millies mum, as you say this could have been a very different outcome. It is fab that both dogs have been found & how they got to Dorset is a mystery. Hope owners takes advice to tag & chip-would hope that kennels didn't release them without but it is great that they 've been safe & together since going missing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Firstly, a big THANK TOU to LABRADOR RESCUE. I received an email this morning from Labrador Rescue, telling me that 2 dogs matching the description of these two were in their kennels in Dorset. We don't know how they got to Dorset. They had been picked up a week ago and taken to std kennels. Two days ago Labrador rescue were asked to take the dogs for rehoming. Fortunately I had sent Lab Rescue their posters, the descriptions were matched to them. Labrador Rescue contacted owners. They are now safely back with their owners. I have just spoken to the owner and stressed to her the importance of getting these two chipped. How different this story could have been without the Doglost posters. Stay safe now Jet and I do hope that you get that very important chip. xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
