Firstly welcome home Louis, so pleased for your family. Regarding the unclipping of the lead from the collar, I had the same experiance with my dog lead, you will find it very easy to unclip if you just pull slightly on the clip whilst on the D ring. I now always use a lead supplied by Retired Greyhound Trust. This lead has a buckle, with holes in the lead, the same type as is used on a collar, so there is no way that it can "come adrift". The lead goes through the D ring and buckles up. Much safer, as once this had happened to me, I lost faith in conventional leads. Hope this information helps. Good luck with your new addition to your family. xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Justine, thank you so much for the update, great to see how exactly dogs are reunited and move into the blue, which is where we would like all dogs on DL to be. Louis looks like a lovely show dog, are you going to Crufts by any chance, would love to meet you and Louis, I might even learn some French. Hope you now stay on as a helper in your area. I just want to say I am absolutely overwhelmed by the response and the help that people have given. I can't express how happy I am that Louis is back home where he belongs. He was sighted at about 11.40 this morning by my husband and sister but he ran and ended up the wrong side of a fence (the embankment up and 6ft fence led to the M3...) I got another friend to bring one of my other dogs (Florence) down and while he saw her and wagged his tail I very unelegantly hoisted myself over the metal fence. I bent down very low and called his name and he responded (with me heart in mouth) by wagging his tail and coming to me. He still had his collar on as he had slipped the lead and not the collar (I can only assume the catch on the lead caught the D ring on the collar and freed it) and two leads later and a carry up the embankment and fence he was safely in the car. I now have some serious investigation into leads and what are the best type! Louis has been cleaned up of the gunk and burrs etc etc that he was covered in and has had a huge sleep and had some food. He walked in the door as if nothing had ever happened! Once again THANK YOU to everyone who has posted/put up posters and spread the word. Dog Lost is absolutely fantastic!!! Justine (who after the night spent searching and leafleting now has aches in muscles she never even knew existing in her legs!).Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Glad the puppy has been found safe. Best collars are the martingales or half collar/chain. So many dogs slip their collars when scared or even just larking about.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just pm'd owner to get chip details registered with petlog immediately. I did this with my boy when he came to UK with a Spanish chip. I would imagine if the chip is scanned here it will just come up as unknown??Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done eveyone, speed needed here and just to say that Louis will probably not behave as our other dogs when found. Absolute caution is a must and, if seen, follow at a safe distance, do not approach. Call owner immediately. This boy will need careful handling to be caught, he is scared and in a strange country. Justine I have sent you a pm (personal message). Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner has advised that Louis is very nervous of people and is unlikely to go to someone he doesnt know. He is however very friendly and inquisitive of other dogs. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have put up posters on Chobham Common and the recreation ground in Chertsey next to SWP School. Also my daughter has given out flyers in the school to staff etc. and put up poster there. Will do more posters later. Gave out leaflets to walkers on the common this morning but...not many of them today. Got a new recruit to sign up as helper on here though! She boards dogs in Virginia Water so is out and about a lot with dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What is up with the beardies this month? Just got two back and now another one hops it? Justine, keep up the good worl. PLease call microchip company and see what can be done in terms of a "message" coming up to anyone who scans the dog, that it makes it clear he is missing in uk since whatever date. Just a precaution based on previous experiences where dogs were scannd, chip came up as foreign and assumptions were made, calls to the chip company were never made etc etc.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Justine, sorry to hear about Louis, keeping everything crossed for you. Have put message on the Beardie List. HilaryLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you so much everyone - I can't tell you how much it means to me. I've just got back home to print off some more posters and leaflets to house (think the quickest way will be to go to the printers at 9 with them). We've been out all night and walked round the area he was last sighted at light. He raced across Abbey Green (the cricket green in Chertsey) and was last seen heading down the road to the day care centre next to it (Burley House) I think where there is assisted housing. Spoken to the manager and got permission to look all around the area and have been up and down the ditches on the green. I took one of my others out with us too but no joy yet......Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My daughter is taking the mini posters to school in Chertsey to hand out to girls and staff this morning. I am walking around Chobham Common shortly so will put up some posters around there. I dont have time to laminate them now so may need to replace later! Will put in plastic wallets and hope it doesnt rain. Hope this boy is found soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I'm Louis' owner and desperate to get him back - as it says he has only recently arrived with us from France (we collected him on Monday) and so he is completely unfamiliar with this area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
