- I cannot fathom why the application to ban this moron from keeping animals was not granted. Shocking. Good luck to Marley.

- Marleys location will need to be kept secret to prevent any further attempts to steal him this is the only reason x

- I seriously hope he will be returned to the dogs home for rehoming and not kept in police kennels. I would be very concerned about what his future would be as they are keen on bull breeds being seized under the DDA. Dont understand why he was kept while the investigation was ongoing tbh.
- 2019-06-08 00:12 Micky
- Yes the statement seems to be worded very carefully as not to mention where he now and what plans for his future. It may be they dontvwant anyone to know where he is for his safety but it would be nice to know ge is safe and going to be safe in the future.

- Micky, this is the comment i saw on Birmingham Dogs Home fb page...
Cp, Birmingham Dogs Home Good evening everyone. We would just like to let you know that Marley has been found safe and well. He has been with the police for sometime after their investigations helped locate him. We just wanted to say thank you to everyone for sharing his post and keeping him in your thoughts. A big thank you to the police for catching the man responsible and he has now been prosecuted for his actions. Kind Regards, Rachel ,

- Reading this it suggests the police have still got him, and the statement for Birmingham dogs home does not suggest he is with them or going back to them. Does anyone know what will happen to him going forward.

- Did a vet remove the microchip with the stolen alert on it? Wen it says ‘surgically removed’ surely a vet wouldn’t do that - this poor boy has had a terrible time all his life - I hope a kind forever home is found for him Last edited: 2019-06-07 20:27:13 by Debbie123

- Sentences never seem to reflect the crime, not to mention the distress caused to the dog or the owners of the establishment that was broken into!

- “Martin Carter, aged 32 and from Mercers Meadow, Coventry was sentenced at Leamington Magistrates Court on Tuesday 4 June, after pleading guilty to handling stolen goods and causing a prohibited procedure to be performed on an animal.
Marley - recovered dog (Opens in a new window)
The court appearance came after a police investigation across the West Mercia, Warwickshire and West Midlands police regions recovered a stolen dog, taken during a burglary at Birmingham Dogs Home in November 2017.
The XL Bully breed, known as 'Marley' had been re-homed to the home by the courts after his previous owner was convicted of using the dog in an attack on a woman earlier that year.
Staff at Birmingham Dogs Home never gave up the search for Marley and after a number of appeals, police recovered 'Marley' from an address in Keresley, Coventry.
Martin Carter had arranged for Marley's ears to be surgically cropped off in an attempt to conceal the dog's identity and even had his microchip surgically removed and replaced with another.
Carter received a 6 month custodial sentence for handling stolen goods and 3 months (concurrently) for the animal offence. An application by the prosecution for Carter to be disqualified from owning animals again was not granted.
West Mercia Police is committed to preventing any unnecessary cruelty and suffering being caused to animals and will seek to prosecute anyone involved in such practices to the full extent of the law, asking for owners to be disqualified from keeping animals in future wherever possible” - 2019-06-07 20:05 Sharon - Social Media Volunteer

- Wow, What a Result !!!.
People often ask ' what are the Police doing ?! They are Useless, They won't do anything" etc etc, but Many Forces DO take #DogTheft seriously, particularly when there is concrete evidence , & often carry out Investigations 'behind closed doors'.
& Yes, janiejewel1649 Good that this Male Thief has been Sentenced & Hopefully They #chopoffhishands !!.

- Saw this yesterday on FB: Solihull Updates .. It's heartbreaking to think the thieves may have targeted Marley for fighting. I'm just praying he's not..The poor dog was stolen from where he was being kept safe, I haven't heard why he ended up there in there in the first place ..We need to make him "TOO HOT TO HANDLE" It's not known if the B'ham Dogs Home has Cctv and as it's in a long country lane there won't be any cctv along that road ..The poor boy could be anywhere now.. I've got everything crossed that he's found safely xxLast edited: 2017-11-09 12:14:55 by Jaycey
