Just to let you all know, that the dog that was washed up on the beach at Brean on Good Friday. was NOT Rosie. I had a phone call from someone who saw the body, asking me if Rosie had a long tail. I have phoned Rosie's Mum to find out that Rosie does not have a long tail, hers has been docked. I have tried to find out more details of the dog that was washed up, it had a long thin tail and had a patch of brown fur on its back, and had obviously been in the water for some time. I drove down to Brean yesterday and spoke to the Beach Warden, to find out what had happened to it. He thought that it had been picked up by Sedgemoor District Council, Cleansing Dept, I phoned them and was told that when they attended the scene, the body had gone. After several phone calls it is now thought that this dog has yet again been washed out to sea, or disposed of by a member of the public. I have been told that SDC would have scanned this dog had they been able to recover it. I have left my phone number with Sedgemoor District Council, who said that they would get the Dog Wardens to contact me. I thought that it might be a good idea, for me to have them on board. Rosie, we are still looking for you. Rosie's Mum, sorry that I had to make that phone call, but we live in hope that we will find her. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ok I understand what you are saying..............I still think it would do no harm to send the National Trust local office a bunch of posters, just incase someone picked her up. Very often the Nat Trust have working parties of volunteers, not just their paid staff, so I wonder if someone could have picked her up that day and taken her home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

On the day Rosie went missing there were loads of National Trust helpers working on The Down. We obviously spoke to them at the time and some even helped in our search. We last saw Rosie near to where they were working which is close to a water container that the goats drink from. (if that means anything to anyone). Its now been just over 5 weeks. I think of you every day Rosie and hope you are safe somewhere. xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I watched a programme today about the National Trust working on Brean Down. It said they don't allow members of the pblic up on to the Down in vehicles, and only Nat Trust vehicles are allowed access. Not sure exactly where you and Rosie were, but was it out on the headland? I know you and Millies Mum have sent posters to the Nat Trust, but I wonder if it might be worth speaking to them direct there to ask if one of their staff has picked Rosie up and taken her home thinking she was lost/abandoned? You could follow this up with a letter and several colour posters of her asking them to diseminate them amongst their staff. Just a thought.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rosies mum don't rely on what is on the internet as this in reality is just a fraction of the dogs most rescue centres have in their kennels! Its so difficult for you I know, as you are out of the area, but sending posters out to the different rescues is a must. Please let us know if you need help with locating addresses for them.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Don't we just! Millies Mum is a doggy detective extrordinaire!!! Scaling a cliff face looking for a JRT is just a walk in the park for her and all in a days work! Thanks so much Millies Mum for all your hard work here and lets keep our fingers crossed that one of those 38 posters and the newspaper article throws something up soon. The area where Rosie went missing is on a cliff top at the end of one road that leads only to Brean Down, just a couple of car parks, a Bird garden and the beach. There is only one way in and out of this area. Most of the surrounding land is caravan sites (holiday vans, summer use only). This is a sheer cliff face, no boats in that area. I don't think that there are any mountain rescue people, due to the sinking mud that surrounds this prenomitory (spell check needed here) other than the air ambulance, which is often used to rescue people that fall or slide whilst walking on the down. There are a couple of farm type houses, which I have covered. I don't know what else I can do on this one, I have put up 38 posters in and around the area, unless someone wants to put more posters on telegraph poles. I have a friend from Cornwall staying with us for a few days so I won't be spending much time on DL. Debs-Rosies Mum: there is a railway line that runs inland from Highbridge via an area near Brean to Weston Super Mare , not something that we want to think about but may be worth phoning Railtrack, also environmental health, who I am led to believe clear the beach, this may well be Sedgemoor District Council. I will be going to a Doggy event on Sunday, and will take a couple of posters with me to pass on to some people I know who live in Weston. I am still praying that Rosie is safe somewhere, and we can get her back with you and your family. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thank you everybody for your offers of help. I'm not sure either which areas I/we could still poster, not knowing the area (I was just visiting for the day). I managed to get hold of a vets directory which enabled me to e-mail all the vets in the Weston area. I think Millie's mum covered all or most of the vets on the Burnham side. I have also now put an advert in this weeks Western Mercury, using a different picture of Rosie. I believe that is a weekly paper which will be on sale at the end of the week. I also re-checked all the local dog wardens yesterday, but no good news. I still can't get Rosie out of my mind. The house is so empty without her. I'm missing the exercise and fresh air as well. Here's hoping that Rosie is out there somewhere safe and well.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello Millie's mum - wow, you have been busy. Thank you so much. I've been having trouble with my computer today, every time I try and do something it looses its connection to the internet. Nevertheless I did manage to send posters out to all the vets in WSM. I can't believe that since Rosie disappeared that I have not received any phone calls, not even one. This web site, and your help especially, has given me that little ray of hope that I will find Rosie again one day. I'm back to work again tomorrow so I wont be in a position to do much ground work until I get home. Rosie wont be far from my mind though..........x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank's Dillondog for posters, they arrived this morning (from Cornwall). Out of the 50 there are 12 left, that I will try to put up when out and about. Went back down to Brean this morning, Put posters up in Berrow church carpark, Burnham and Berrow Golf Glub car park enterance, Berrow bus shelter, Sandy Glades, Northam Farm, Unity Farm, Warren Farm, Brean Church Enterance, Brean Post Office, Both beach (drive on) entrances North and South, also on Warning signs on the beach, At the bottom of steps leading up to cliff top, also near gates on the right of car park near pathway leading to cliff top walk. Put poster through letter box of cafe, Did see owners hand written poster today in the cafe window, that I didn't see there 2 days ago. Also posters on telegraph poles along the area. DL helpers please note that McColls will NOT display posters, albeit the lady did take a poster, for private use. We know where to take our business, so if visiting Brean, make sure that you have every thing you need before your visit, so you won't have to go to McCOLLS in BREAN. Other than that please shop in Burnham. Hope to find you soon Rosie. Please help find Rosie missing Jack Russell page, is on burnham-on-sea.com web site forum. You can view the pages, but have to sign up to enable you to post.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I will contact White church kennels as this is where the RSPCA hold all there dogs locally. I will do that now and ring round some of the Vets in Weston-super-Mare on Monday morning to make sure they are aware of this missing girl. I know a post has been made on Burnham-on-Sea's own website as well so people are aware of her. Good luck all.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Debs-Rosies Mum. I have covered Blakes and Blackrock vets in Burnham. If you could find any in Weston Super Mare, or the Uphill district of Weston. Maybe phone the beach wardens again, and RSPCA kennels in Weston. Dillondog has very kindly printed off some posters and should be with me tomorrow. I intend to go back down to Brean tomorrow and put more posters up there. If a regular user of the Downs has picked Rosie up or seen or heard anything, the more posters we have will at least give them your contact number, and make more people aware of Rosies's plight. I will also try to get some posters put up in the local pet shops. Not enough hours in the day. It seems that DL helpers are non existant in this area. Hope we find you soon Rosie. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks so much Millie's mum for all your hard work. I have taken tomorrow off work to enable me to concentrate on posting out some posters to vets in the district. I have found today quite hard, being a week since we set off with our picnic for a family day out. Can you think of anything practical I can get on with tomorrow? Your local knowledge would be of benefit here. Thinking of you Rosie. Hope you're safe and well. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went to Burnham on Sea motor boat and sailing club today, gave them a poster, so when their members are out in their boats they are now aware that Rosie is missing. Also went to BARB hovercraft Rescue (Life boats) they now have a poster and will put on their notice board. Great guys they saved 2 little girls from the Weston sinking mud last week. I am just praying that someone has rescued Rosie. Not a good place to go missing, especially on the Weston side of Brean Down, there is literaly NO ACCESS to the cliffs on that side due to the sinking mud. The hovercraft is the only hope, but at least they are now aware of Rosie and some of them are also dog owners. Thanks again guys. Hope that you are safe somewhere Rosie. Some great work going on here........we have such wonderful people in our SW team!! If there is anyone else here who can help with some practical Hands-On postering then it is DESPERATELY needed at Rosie is not a local dog and her mum and dad are so far away. Millies mum is a trooper as always, but all hands on deck here please! Can you try Whitehouse kennels near WSM which is an RSPCA kennel and takes some strays. Millie's Mum your idea about BARB was a great one, do you know if that has been followed up? Also please can someone try the Coastguard? Are there any search and rescue groups in that area who use the cliffs for training?? I don't know the area too well, so we really do need some local ideas please..........!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Having problems with BT Broadband today. Easier to get an audiance with the pope than get on to BT to fix it. I have started a thread on Burnham-on-sea.com forum for Rosie, let's hope that gets some results. Also is there anyone on the Weston Super Mare side of Brean Down who could help, I am thinking that Rosie may have came off the Down on that side, more Uphill way, or Bleadon areas. Thanks Dillondog for your help on this one. I will be out and about today, doing what I can for Rosie. If I don't post later it's because of this wonderful BT service. thanks so much Millie's mum. We actually live in Gloucestershire and were simply out for the day visiting Brean Down and Sands, our first visit. We try to get out every Sunday, somewhere different, to give the dogs and children a good run! I also have a dachshund. I bought Rosie to keep Dachs company. He misses her too. He cries at night which breaks my heart because I've never heard him make that sound before. I appreciate your local knowledge as I am not familiar with the area at all. I've made contact with the beach warden, local vets, 3 dog wardens covering different areas, local houses and farm, parish council, police, rspca and a couple of re-housing kennels. I also plan on putting an advert in the Burnham and Highbridge Gazette ready for its next issue. I've re-checked some of the above people several times, but with no luck. I also put up a few hand made A4 posters on Monday but at that stage I didn't have a photo. I put a couple up on the Down, one on the steps and one in the bird centre cafe. I hope they haven't been taken down of blown away already. If you are able to put up some coloured Doglost posters for me I would be most grateful. I will happily send you some money towards petrol etc. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just come back from delivering posters to Black Rock Vets and Blake Vets in Burnham (earlier email went to Bridgwater surgery). Receptionist at my vet is also searching for Rosie. Found out that you are not a "local". I guess that you have done the obvious ie: notified the microchip registration people, local police. Taunton Police Station phone no. is 0845 456700, not sure if Burnham Police is the same no. I have emailed Rosie's poster to: dog warden @ Taunton deane (phone no 01823 356550) St Giles Kennels (which is where strays are taken) phone no 01823 490333. CustomerServices@Sedgemoor.gov.uk hopefully this will be passed on to sedgemoor dog warden, (phone no. 0845 4082546. It will pay you to phone all of the above numbers to check if Rosie has been picked up. Let's hope that we can find this little girl soon. My Millie is wondering why all these extra trips out. Thanks Millie's Mum, you are very kind. I checked around the cliffs on the southern edge on Sunday. All I could see were the goats! As you say, it could be worth checking with the sailing club. We spent around 5 hours looking for Rosie on Sunday and Debbie went again on Monday. It's difficult to say where she went missing but it was soon after the dip in the middle of the headland. We noticed she was n't with us on the rise towards the trig point. It was our feeling that she'd headed into the scrub on the right hand side of the headland as you face our to sea. Thank you to all who are trying to help find Rosie.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just come back from Brean Down looking for Rosie. How far was she from the cliff edge when last seen. Maybe an idea to contact BARB, and Burnham Sailing Club, they could check cliffs when out on training exercises. Not a poster in sight! We need to FLOOD this area with posters, several dog walkers and ramblers here every day. I put one A4 poster in the phone box opposite the car park, and another one on a telegraph pole on the pathway leading to the cliff walk (both in plastic wallets). Spoke to lady at the Bird Gardens, who was aware of Rosie, believe owner spoke to her on day Rosie went missing. Also spoke to a few dog walkers, post lady, and ramblers and made them aware of Rosie. My printer quality is not good, so if owner can get some posters printed, and wants me to put more up just PM me. I am in Burnham on Sea. Poster emailed to Blake vet group. Pray we find you soon Rosie. Stay safe poppet. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Brian from the Fell and Moreland WTG has just called to say despite several hours searching he has had no luck in finding Rosie :-( He is of the opinion that she has been picked up by somebody, and I must admit that is how I now feel. My heart felt thanks to Brian for his, and his dogs, efforts. I think my next step is to get some posters sent off to some local vets but would invite any other ideas from anybody. Dear Jayne Please find attached 4 photos of Rosie. Thank you for your advice about phoning the Fell and Moreland Terrier people. I ended up speaking to several of their members, one of which has offered to go to Brean Down tomorrow morning to have a look for Rosie. I have my fingers and toes crossed in anticipation. Further to my original description I would like to add that she is of slight build for a Jack Russell, being the lovely runt of the litter. She also tends to walk on 3 legs, lifting either of her back legs. She shakes alot too, as if she's cold, but she does it in the Summer as well. I think she just does it for attention, (it always worked for me anyhow). Her tummy is really spotty, like a dalmation. She bounces really high on the spot. I don't need to bend down to catch her!. She likes to be totally covered up at night............the list goes on. I just want her back safe and well. My children (6 and 9), and my partner miss her like mad, as I do. Mike no longer has his running buddie and the girls no longer have someone to take down the slide and bounce on the trampoline with. I miss our daily walks. :-( . I just tried to register with your site but am having trouble accessing it. I'll try again later. I don't tend to use my computer very often. There's something wrong with it and I get frustrated waiting forever for it to boot up. Please could you ring me for anything urgent. Hope to speak to you soon. Kind regards Debbie, Mike, Poppy and Lola....e mail from owner. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
