Great news, I am sure a follow up in the local paper will bring some news of Nook. Please remind everyone you know to update microchip details, I found a Husky a few months ago and scanned him, got the address of his owner and a phone number, but when I phoned and said I would bring him back (about four miles) we discovered I was talking to a person who lived only ten doors away and had recently moved!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Fantastic news! It is so gratifying to hear of people who derive such pleasure themselves from reuniting pets with their owners even though they do not know the people concerned. One thing I would love to know - did it appear from Mikkas condition that she has been on the loose ever since she went missing? If so astonishing that she had not been seen in all that time! Hope this means that Nook can be found very very soonLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well, what can I say, all afternoon I was sitting on my tightly crossed fingers really hoping that the found dog was Nic's Mikka and was so pleased when Nic called to say it was Mikka and that she was at home playing with the pups and Blue!!! Wooo hoooooo!!! Mikka is certainly pleased to be back (reunion pic will follow)! Another massive thanks to Neil (glad you have registered and posted Neil!), he was as chuffed as the rest of us that it was Mikka, and he really did go the extra mile where many others wouldn't - if it wasn't for you we may never have had this fantastic ending. Especially with the changes in the law for stray dogs, its makes what you did and the time you spent on this even more commendable......and as we've discussed hopefully we can get something set up to help others in the future! The lady who found Mikka is really pleased as well to have tracked down her owner, she did good too, not only catching her but for looking after her so well. Her boyfriend actually had Mikka at his house (as the lady had dogs and they wouldn't have all got on) and lets just say Mikka made herself feel at home......rather a lot of breakages and she even locked him out of his own house lol!!! He says its quiet without her and misses her! Well done helpers as well as I know many of you have been helping in the search for the Dagenham 2......now we've got to find Nook and get him home where he belongs too!!! As a police officer and the owner of two dogs, It gives me great pleasure to have assisted reuniting you with Mikka. Well done to Dogslost and the website as without it my attempts to investigate and make a link between a caller and you would have been more difficult. Also thanks to the kind lady who took mikka in and looked after her and her attempts to try and find her true owner. Well done to the fabulous policeman who went the extra mile (I shall call you Hens Teeth - no I'm only joking - you have made me eat some of my words and I'm truly glad).x Nic contact the local press for a reunited story (I'm sure they would do it) and it would give some more press to Nook. Everyone keep your fingers tightly crossed!! Call received via a fantastic policeman (a dog lover himself!) after a lady called them who had found a Husky in the Romford area. The policeman had checked DogLost and saw Mikka missing from a similar area, and other bits of info sounds as if they could match. Nic is speaking to the finder and is going to go and see the found dog later. Really hoping it is Mikka.....will let you all know as soon as I hear! Massive thanks goes to the policeman who really has gone above and beyond, especially given the recent stray dog law changes.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

what a sad story i really do hope you have a happy ending and i see both your husky's in the blue in the near future. What is it with these people who see a dog wondering about in the street/park whatever but dont ever think to help the dog (and the frantic owners who are searching for the dog) to hand them into the local police station?? Having had my husky diesel go missing for over 10 months i really do feel for you and i know exactly what your going through. I'm too far away to help but i will keep my fingers crossed and follow you story. Dont ever give up hope and best of luck.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Nic, thanks for the update. I know it is difficult to stay positive when it has gone as quiet as it has recently with no sightings but rest assured we are all still looking for Mikka and Nook and doing what we can. Given the lack of sightings and our previous suspicions that they may have gone to ground in the Chase area, it would be worth postering like mad in and around the area again, maybe moving over to the far side of the park as well incase they venture out that side rather than the side towards home. If they have gone to ground in the park, sooner or later someone will see them. Use the small flyers (download from the info centre) to post through houses all around the park. You really need to keep spreading the word. As we get nearer to summer (so I say given the awful forecast for Mon!) more and more people will be out and about in the open areas so there will be even more eyes looking. I know its difficult as the area is so vast but posters need to be up in and around the area......each entrance, adjoining routes to other parks, visitors centres, farms, local pubs etc. May also be worth calling some of the neighbouring police stations around the area incase they have been reported. I hope the puppies get on okay in their news homes, I am sure they will be just fine and very loved as they are at the moment. Keep your chin up Nic and come on Mikka and Nook, time to come home. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The RSPCA chief inspector for the area has just called me back and having done a sweep of the computer system and asked all his people in the area, there was no record and no-one knew anything about a call to Heathway flats for 2 Huskies so I think we can rule that out completely now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Nic, any news or any more sightings at all? Hope you got the scenting instructions I sent you okay - any queries just let me know. Local helpers you are all doing a great job.....keep at it. I've discussed the idea of scenting and bbq etc with Nic as given the lack of sightings, especially recently, it is quite possible that Mikka and Nook have gone to ground in the nature reserve. This isn't a bad thing in that they will be able to find a safe area, food and water but obviously we need to tempt them out and move closer to catching them both and getting them home. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I know Jayne, they are definitely rather elusive these two! I don?t know the area myself either but have been trying to follow each sighting on a map and familiarise myself with it as much as I can. I am sure someone more local can advise better but to me it seems the sightings are generally quite close to each other. Originally when they first went missing sightings were coming in from near the Chase Nature Reserve area but then also others from across the town (a distance away but perfectly feasible for them to travel this distance) more in the direction they went missing from. However, then we had a spell of no sightings and the recent ones have been around the Chase Nature Reserve area again so its possible they have gone to ground in this area. It is a large area connecting up with other Country Park areas so they would have plenty of oppurtunity to find somewhere safe to bed down. Also there are several lakes so there?s a water supply too for them (presuming they are not all fenced off??). Nic, I have found a more detailed map of the area today and from that it seems there are a couple of pubs and farm houses at the end of Dagenham Road and also down The Chase ? have these and also the visitors centres been postered/alerted? Also, the maps show what possibly are allotments near the sports grounds down towards the water works and Eastbrookend side. If these are allotments, it is worth postering and alerting people in that area too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

He will call me back if he finds anything out (probably tomorrow he said) and I did ask for a call back either way so we know for certain which he said he would do his best to do but to assume if I didn't hear from him over the next few days that there was no call/it was not the Huskies. So pleased that we are getting somewhere regarding this call at last.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owners had a call from a man who believes he saw one of these dogs over at the Chase area again yesterday at around 2pm. Sighted by the bird centre. Owner is going to pursue the idea of spending several hours over that area, with the car open, BBQ going, scent etc.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just spoken to Nic and no real progress to report I'm afraid. She has contacted all the people we have spoken (or rather written!) about - Battersea, B&D council, Police, Hillside kennels, Danaher RSPCA, local RSPCA branches but no joy getting any closer to finding out whether the RSPCA did attend a call at Heathway flats and if they did whether it was Mikka and Nook. All contacted have taken details. Battersea did phone regarding a Husky they had but it was not a match but good to see they are aware and contacted Nic. One of the people I contacted today said to try the RSPCA Southridge (they are closed Wednesdays) so have given Nic the number for them and she's going to give them a call tomorrow. She is also going to try regularly ringing (aiming for daily) the main RSPCA number and requesting information in the hope we will get some joy. Nic's partner went down to Heathway flats and asked people around there but nobody knew or had seen anything. There have been no additional sightings around Dagenham so it is possible they are still out there but have gone to ground somewhere away from the built up areas so are not being sighted. We discussed the idea of spending some time over at the Chase Nature Reserve having a BBQ etc incase the dogs have gone to ground over there. As its such a vast space its difficult but starting at the side of the Park where the most sightings have been would be a start. Nic has got the week off next week so is seriously going to consider this idea. She is reading all the comments people have been posting on site although she's not posted for a couple of days and is very grateful for all the help and support the DL helpers are providing.....keep at it everyone, the Dagenham 2 must be caught! Stay safe Mikka and Nook until we find you. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As Nic was at work, I have just called the Branch Secretarys number GeminiStar provided. She had already been called by owners so was aware and advised me to contact RSPCA HQ but when I explained the trouble we had all been having with getting in touch even though we have all been phoning around and the fact that I'd logged numerous calls with RSPCA HQ and was waiting for call backs she said she'd have a ring around and see if she could get in touch with an inspector for the area through her contacts. Left a message for Nic to call me back later to update but her partner said they had no luck with trying to find out about the RSPCA taking 2 dogs nor had they had any more sightings (apart from one which was a false alarm as when they got to the man reported as walking 2 huskies it wasn't Mikka and Nook.). Thanks everyone for your continued help. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still no call back from the RSPCA despite repeated calls to them requesting an RSPCA inspector for the area calls me back....will keep trying. I have just called a lady local to me who has links with the RSPCA/rehoming and she?s going to phone a contact and see if she can find anything out. Nic, if you can provide details of who you?ve contacted as Titannia has suggested that will be of help in deciding our next step as we all want to find out here what actually happened ? did the lady that originally reported this to you phone back? Have you tried visiting the flats and asking people going in/out whether they know anything? If 2 large dogs were taken from the flats I would imagine someone else would have seen or heard something. Stay positive Nic, I am sure with everyone?s help on here you will soon have Mikka and Nook home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Xena's Mum, I sent posters to Battersea originally and Nic is aware that she should contact the rescues, kennels etc regularly and if possible in person. Nic did you have any joy taking the father of the pups to the flats to see if he could sniff something out? Even if he can't it may get some people approaching you with possible info. Also did you have any joy with the Civic or Dagenham police again re a report of an aggresive dog (then passed to RSPCA)? Please can you let us know where we are at so that we aren't all contacting the same people? We still shouldn't rule out the Chase as it's a big place and they may have gone to ground for a couple of days. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks everyone. I called the RSPCA 0300 1234 555 number on Friday and it was via this number that I was promised the RSPCA Inspector for the area would call me back - never did! I am happy to chase it as they already have my details and the call logged so that makes sense rather than them logging another. I also called Wanderers and Frankie gave me several numbers to try which I did but with no joy. This incl Barron Kennels in Orsett who do take some dogs from B&D and also house for RSPCA. I passed Nic the numbers for Hillside and RSPCA Danaher last week for her to try so I can only presume they couldn't help either - Nic was this the case? So......looks like we have all those places covered, thanks for the suggestions......keep them coming because as I said before getting in touch with the RSPCA is proving to be a challenge! But we're all up for a challenge eh' so we won't give in!!! We really need to find out the facts here one way or another.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Might be worth giving Wanderers Haven in Cranham a try, they open today till 3pm 01708 220168, Hillside RSPCA Kennels in Waltham Abbey 01992 892881 or Danahar RSPCA Rescue Centre in Braintree 01371 851201 you never know if they were taken from this flat in Heathway they might have ended up at one of those. Good Luck. XXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Like Jo I have called the various RSPCA numbers. I called 0870 0101841 and have been advised to call 0300 1234 555 tomorrow as this is the HQ but cannot do this from my landline (keeps saying it's my providers test number). Can anyone give this a go to see if they can actually get through? Spoke to Gemini and they too said to contact the RSPCA HQ. Another idea may be to contact B&D Council at the Civic tomorrow as they may have had a report. Nic's partner has tried Dagenham police but no joy at all (surprise) so will try and pop in myself sometime in the week (may need bail with my mouth)! and Nic has spoken to Peggy (RSPCA Essex SW) who has given her a number to call tomorrow. Still spreading the word with flyers etc locally and at Rainham Road South area because as Jo says, although this call seems plausible, this pair may still be out there. Stay safe Mikka & Nook. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I spoke to Nic an hour or so ago and no more sightings then since those already listed on here. Her partner was out driving around, armed with posters looking for Mikka and Nook. Nic can't drive and with the puppies at home cannot always rush out and get to sightings immediatly (especially if across town) so if any helpers out there are near to the Eastbrookend area where a couple of sightings have been it may be helpful to link up with Nic incase you can assist with any future sightings. As RnS said, the sighting this morning by Dagenham East was of 1 husky and a SBT type dog. Nic said it was reported that the SBT dog was wearing a harness but was not with anyone so if anyone should hear of a SBT type also missing in the area, owners need to link up. Keelah - Heathway station & area has been heavily postered. Dagenham East hadn't but that was one of the places her partner was driving to this afternoon and would put posters up too. Such a shame there was no sign of them when you got there Nic but as you say comforting they were sighted together. I have emailed St Georges Church, the local scout group (which meet in St Georges Church) as relatively close to this latest sighting. Also emailed the safer neighbourhood teams for Alibon, Eastbrook, Goresbrook, Mayesbrook, Parsloes, River, Valence and Village which were all the ones with Dagenham addresses. I wasn?t sure if you had already spoken to these teams but no harm in emailing again and duplicating as hopefully they will display posters and spread the word further. I know you have been out there postering, in between puppy duties, but did you manage to get any posters up at a bus station and bus stops. Many of the roads they are being sighted on are on bus routes aren?t they so worth doing. I have emailed their poster to Transport for London which I understand is one company that runs the buses. Also Nic, I know you have had good press coverage, have you also tried the local radio? As RnS has just posted, please anyone in the area can you assist with postering? Even if it's only a couple in your own nearby area, it all helps. We really need as many eyes looking as possible. With Mikka and Nook still out there on the run, we need as many sightings as possible to establish where they are heading, if they are working in a pattern etc and to ultimately catch the 2 of them......who must have had enough of an adventure now, time to come home. Great to hear you have had a sighting of the both of them together again.....and if there is an old disused building they could be using to bed down in fingers crossed again. I am sure you will, but check around the building you have mentioned for ways in for a dog/s and if you can get in there you may be able to see an area they have bedded down in. Have you been plotting the confirmed positive sightings of Mikka and Nook on a map as I suggested? A lot of dogs when they go missing travel in a triangular shape. When this is seen to be the case we can then look at incorporating scenting and attracting them to a safe area within the triangle. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Great article in the B&D recorder, and even better that the B&D Post are running a story too - well done and thank you papers! This should raise awareness even more and hopefully Mikka and Nook will be home soon as a result. You are doing a great job Nic, keep at it, the posters and the press coverage will come up trumps before long and you'll catch up with your 2 babies! The bit in the article about Nook getting on a bus did make me laugh although thank god you're getting sightings or may have worried he'd jumped on board again and be taking a holiday somewhere!! Although if they did jump on a bus I guess it wouldn't be a bad thing as at least they could be contained!!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jotty - I think the Chase (as it was called) is now the Chase Reserve and goes from roughly the RM10 to RM13 area. You have Eastbrookend country Park to the North of it and Harrow Lodge above and to the right. This seems a really good sighting as from Heathway across country over Rainham Road/Dagenham Road way, Mikka & Nook would get to the Chase. Nic have a word with the Civic in the morning and ask for the traveller liaison officer to see where current camps are just in case. We now need posters out that way too which will also cover Rush Green, Romford, Hornchurch, Elm Park etc. Large area to cover so any extra help would be greatly appreciated. Can anyone help that has a fax please? Gave lots of flyers out today and had a good look around but nothing. Gave flyers to local Tesco delivery driver too. Will give to milkman & postman tomorrow as they cover quite large Romford and outer area. Spoke to RnS who spoke to Nic and little pup seems OK. Also RnS Rottie baby has had his op and hopefully will be well soon, thankfully. Be brave Nic and keep your chin up - you are getting closer and we are all with you. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Nic - great you have had some more news. Is Chase Park the Chase Nature Reserve? I couldn't find Chase Park on the map - how near to you is it? If it spans into other areas, make sure you ring all the local police stations incase the finder reported them. Same for additional dog wardens, kennels and vets if it is out of the area you have covered already. Do you know if the man that was seen leading them away with a rope was a fellow dog walker? If it is the Chase Nature Reserve then you could try the Barking and Dagenham Ranger Service - 020 8595 4155 and also the Project Manager for the nature reserve is Gareth Winn 020 8593 8096 lwtchase@cix.co.uk, incase he could assist in anyway. Can you let me know the postcode area of the park and I will double check that this area was covered when posters were initially emailed out by Jayne. As you have already gone off to do, the park and surrounding area needs postering - more people may have seen them, especially if they were approaching dogs to play, and hopefully someone will know the man who did catch them. Fingers crossed that you are getting closer to getting your babies home. Also, how's the little pup you had to rush to the vets?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If in the chase cross area there is gypsy site near the rush green area, please see if they are there. Down Dagenham Road are some cottages and they do breed dogs there worth seeing if they have been offered to them at it be obvious she can be breed and not sure if the male can be. Poster at Brettons and on Sunday mornings at about 9am there are dog training classes that are worth a try as they cover that large area when walking. Also there are horse stables in the chase so speak with them. I hope they are home soon at least there is an area to concentrate on and it is possible for them to get there. I hope the pups stay well just wish love could be enough.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

just had a call sighting on sunday over chase park (elm park side) 2 huskys run up to a man walkinh his dog. very play full. another man said he had been there for 30 minutes and the dogs were not with any one. men just walked of and left the dogs there. later saw a man tying a rope around dogs and leading them away. off to poster around the park and surrounding area. if you know anyone living around the area tell them to keep an eye open. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Nic - Excellent new re the B&D Recorder. Our locals are normally helpful. Did you try Angela at BBC Radio? She is quite dog friendly and worth a go. Don't want to pour cold water on the sighting but I'm wondering if this is the Husky I was telling you about yesterday and that Mikka & Nook are still together. The one I was telling you about is in the Rainham Road/Oxlow Lane area (a few people mentioned it to me). Have you popped in to Park View Nursing Home and the Health Centre (just off Broad Street). Worth postering as they have a lot of 'comings and goings' and also they both back on to the large school playing fields. Would be a good place for the dogs to 'hole up' for the night as it's really quiet at the back there. There is also a park around that area that could be worth a go. Have given some more local cabs companies posters and spread the word a bit in Chadwell Heath. I'm back in Rainham Rd area tomorrow so will take some posters to dish out to people and I will go and come home by different routes to have a nose around. Any luck with Dagenham Police yet? They may have had a call so keep on at them. May be an idea to blitz the Heathway area too. Hand the small flyers out to everyone coming out of the station and do the shops as quite a busy area. As I said to you, people may be a bit wary to approach Mikka & Nook so possible they are still out and about (rather than someone has them). If you plot the sightings they seem to staying in the same areas so I'm wondering if they are laying low during the day now and moving around at night/early morning. They are both strong dogs so probably like a big adventure for them, not knowing the worry they are causing. Stay safe you pair until we get you home. - Katie. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Nic, I have had a look on the map at the roads you have said there have been sightings in. Was the last sighting in Chequers Lane your side of the A13 or the Thames side? I presume it's your side and they haven?t crossed the A13! I would suggest it would be an idea to phone some police stations a bit further afield. If they are near?ish to the A13, someone travelling through Dagenham may have picked them up and only reported them to their local station. It would be worth putting some posters up at major junctions near the A13 as with the volume of traffic flow you may get some people travelling through who have seen them. I have sent you a link via private message/PM (access your PM?s via the top of the DogLost site once you have logged in) which is a link to the Havering safer neighbourhoods scheme. I am not sure if you have looked at this sort of thing already but the link goes to various local units in the scheme who spend a lot of their time out and about in the community on patrols ? they could keep an eye out for Mikka and Nook so well worth contacting them. All the names and numbers are on the page the link goes to. A couple of others, South Ockendon police 01375 362128, South Hornchurch 01708 779425. Also, ring around your own local Police stations and kennels again or take a poster down there in person. Did you manage to get in touch with the railway/station people as I know when we spoke last you were going to. Have you postered down the Chequers Lane area on the basis of the last sighting on Saturday morning? Also, make sure posters are in the railway station/s that are nearby, contact any local taxi firms as well. As you have had no more sightings it would possibly suggest they have either been picked up by someone or have travelled further afield to an area not postered. I know Titannia said she had sent you her list of Essex contacts already if you haven?t rung some of the ones further away already I think it is time to widen the search a bit. Come on Mikka and Nook where are you?!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

rottiesnstaffs I'm sorry if you felt my comments to be harsh, this was not my intention, but to highlight the fact that this dog having just had pubs and two lots in a short time and being young herself, and that she may will not be under her normal condition, as we all know having children can take it out of a women no different for a dog, now my comment was to HIGHLIGHT this to make helpers and a like that this poor girl needs to be found ASAP, and it is bad enough that dogs go missing at the best of times but in her case this is more desperate. But if others are reading into what my comments was about, then they must be thinking on other lines. I will say the longer she is away from her pups the more the risk of her rejecting them, also in herself will need to recover from any ordeal she may have encountered while she as been missing. I do hope she and her son are found soon and that all is well that ends well for her and her pups, and her son. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to hear about your boy rottienstaffs, sending get well wishes and hugs to him. You take care too. The owners are doing a great job searching for Mikka and Nook and with their hard work hopefully the reward of having both of them safely home will just be around the corner. As you have postered a lot locally, we should get some more sightings so we can establish which area they are in or if they are still running. I know Nic planned on ringing around all the relevant places today now there will be people back in work - DWs, vets, kennels etc and I would also advise ringing the Police again. If you haven't already done so, take some posters down to your local postal sorting office and ask them to display there so the posties are aware as they may spot Mikka and Nook on their travels. And continue with the postering - parks, supermarkets, shops, taxi firms, pubs, streets, bus stops, outside schools etc - need to have as many eyes on the look out as possible! Come on Mikka and Nook.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Doglady, i think the last part of your comment came out a bit harsh. I know there are some of us with our own ideas on what and if and how often a dog should be bred i would like to say that these dogs are very well looked after by a very experienced owner. Nic and her partner are doing everything they can to get these two home and i think that is what we should be concentrating on. That is not the sort of comment you would usually make and i dont think you meant it to come out like it did. Any way, Nic, i just came on here to say that i may not be available for your partner to call for help with going out to sightings as i have just got back from the emergency vets as my Rottie collapsed. He has been kept in on a drip and i have to call them tomorrow afternoon after they have done blood tests and xrays. They said they will call me if he deteriorates so i can be with him. I left him my nightshirt so it has my scent on so he can feel a bit more comfortable having something familiar to him. Im sorry but my brain's just not with it at the moment but i will help when i can and when i know whats happening with my baby boy. I think i'll sleep on the sofa tonite as it wouldnt be the same going to bed without him xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Double flyers and double poster now on the info centre left hand side just above Dolly's Directive Logo. Please download and print. Use the flyers for handouts and for posting through doors. Good luck with these two. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I'm a bit far away to help but will e-mail all my Newfie friends in the area to keep an eye out. Hopefully the mothering instinct will bring Mikka back and Nook will follow. Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner and i will be helping to poster tomorrow afternoon. I have told them they can call anytime if they have any sightings and i will try to get there as soon as i can. Owners very competently handrearing pups til mum comes home. Its so nice when owners know what they are doing when it comes to handrearing. They really cant be that far so hopefully there will be good news tomorrow xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Mikka and Nook escaped (via gate blown open by the wind) at 7am this morning. Owner has contacted the local police, battersea, local vets, kennels although at some no answer and will need to call on Monday (although hopefully they'll be home by then). She is going to contact the railway tomorrow. Gave owner several numbers for local DW's and kennels which she will call on Monday and advised other things to do. Owner has been out today postering locally. Poster like mad everyone - people won't have missed these 2 running through the area and Mikka has 7 2 week old puppies at home so we need to find Mikka and Nook asap. Stay safe. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

ncjhnsn I hate to say this but you should get in touch with the railways and that a poster with you also get your local dog warden involved too, also poster like mad it just takes one person to see the poster. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
