- email from a freecycler, who is now signed up to Doglost: I'm so very sorry to hear this sad news. I suppose there is a some consolation to at least know what happened, but I am astonished by the actions of whoever did this - what would it have taken for them just to call this is in to the relevant authorities? Please pass on my condolences to your friend. Kind regards, Caroline Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- By the edge of a wood at the foot of the hill, Is a lush green meadow where time stands still, Where friends of a man and woman do run, when their time on earth is over and done, For here between this world and the next , Is a place where each beloved creature find's rest ! On this golden land they wait and play till Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer in pain or sadness for here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness!!!! Their limbs are restored their health renewed their bodies have healed strength imbuled !!!! They run through the grass without even a care, untill one day they Stop and sniff the air !!! All ears pricked forward, eyes dart side to side, Then all of a sudden one breaks from the pack ! For just that instant their eyes have met Together again person and pet, So they run to each other these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last !! The sadness they felt whilie they were apart has turned into Joy once more in each heart, They embrace with a love that will last forever and side by side they cross over together !! Run wild and free with the warmth of the sun on your back forever x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Jake's dad has just called me with very sad news. Some cyclists found Jake's body in a ditch not far from Ornamental Drive. The family would like to express their thanks to Doglost helpers for all they have done. Run free over the Bridge, Jake. We are so sorry. The other lost dog, called Shelly, who was mistaken for him, has also been found. She has a broken leg and is in the animal hospital.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Owners just missed the deadline for Lymington Times so it is going in next week. They have repostered all the footpaths for miles around Ornamental Drive. A few have been taken down but most are still up. However, a man called them from Totton about a collie which had been accidentally shut in his garden. It wasn't Jake but Shelly, complete with red collar! She was terrified and he got her into the house but she shot past him and cleared the fence. DWs have been notified.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Deepwith has discovered from a Freecycle contact that another BC went missing a couple of days ago, ran of from Totton. One sighting so far. Owner has been advised to get this collie up on our site, but meanwhile I thought it best to mention this here to prevent confusion. This BC is a bitch called Shelly. She is wearing a red collar, don't know what ID she has. One of her forelegs is all white. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Has owner contacted the Verderers (based in Lyndhurst)? They not only will know the area but will know which Commoners have stock in this area so are likely to be checking their horses/cattle. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Find your local livery stables, riding schools and anyone else horsey, the local hunt etc etc - riders most likely to spot a dog in such a vast open space. Use yellow pages, Horse & Hound etc etc to find tel/fax numberLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi this area is absolutely vast and goes on for miles and miles, on the other side of the A35 is Bolderwood, which is just as big again.did not see one other person there in two hours let alone another dog !. Most car parks are now closed at this time of year as well, so there are limited places to park and walk from I will be walking there daily from now on, different times and places. I have also been in touch with the owners Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- The Ornamental Drive is a famous landmark and tourist attraction in the New Forest. The area is known as, and signposted, as Rhinefield from the A35. This will make sense to any local and most tourists in the area where Jake is. Have asked local group NFDog to send out poster to all members, am sending details to NFeast and west freecycle groups and am presently printing poster for local vets.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I couldn't find a village called Rhinefield anywhere near Lynhurst so have just called owner. It is the Rhinefield House Hotel, and Ornamental Drive leads from the A35 through to Brockenhurst. Will ask for poster to be amended.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
