How sad to come all this way for a better life and have this happen. It really isn't the owners fault as they were doing what they had been told and I've had a dog wriggle out of a perfectly fitted harness.Until you've had one of these dogs you can't understand how difficult they can be. They appear so settled and happy but the slightest little thing can freak them out totally, or just the opportunity for freedom like an open door or a fence with a gap and they're gone. Poor Poppy isn't the first and she won't be the last unless the rescues make 100% sure new owners understand....fitted harness plus well fitting collar and lead PLUS slip lead as back up. And no walking other than the garden until the dogs have some level of training and have bonded with the new owners.Last edited: 2017-12-12 18:24:35 by fionap58

I am truly sorry that Poppy didn't make it home. X

How upsetting to read the comments from someone who has a user name of 'shoot the owner'. All humans are fallible (?) , Poppy and her owner were in front of the house, not even reached the pavement when she was spooked. She covered a huge area while out and so many people tried to help with sightings and posters. I think everyone is sad there was a tragic outcome. I would not want to come on a course lec by someone who writes posts liike yours...

Tragic.

Tragic - I hope the rescue advise 3 points of contact on any Romanian dog - collar and lead, properly fitted harness (perfect fit or Ruffwear webmaster) and a slip lead.

Sad news

Moschi/poppy. Was hit by a car on the motorway and died on arrival to the vets.

Thank you to everyone here for taking time looking for her Last edited: 2017-12-12 10:44:44
Heather
She moved from Stevenson Way to Waterlea area of Furnace Green. Slipped away from the dog wardens last minute and no other sightings since. She hasn’t travelled as much today and possibly limping which may mean we can narrow the search and use a dog trap
Jo Golder
Possible sighting. At. Stevenson way industrial estate. Three bridges.

Heather heading over now. If anyone can follow would be great
Thank you

Selotape is not suitable, use string or tacks to secure posters. Be more specific in sightings, i.e. name of road it gives a point to work out from for those who are trying to help. She may well be making her way back to Goffs Park as they tend to make their way back to somewhere known to them often in the shape of a triangle or circle so you could make that your first call in the morning unless you get a call with a sighting.
Heather
Posters and leaflets were also handed into all of the outlets like the bowling alley and cinema
Heather
To respond to the previous comment - vast quantities of posters were put up and small ones taped to the lids of all the poo bins. We also handed out directly to owners and friends that were there today have confirmed that they were still visible. Posters and leaflets are also with taxi cab companies, pubs, shopping parades, in shop windows, bus shelters, garages, DIY sites and supermarkets as well as McDonalds etc. It is possible that due to the high winds and heavy rain throughout the day some ma have blown away or been taken down but I can assure you they were up!
Poppy managed to avoid the two dog wardens that saw her in Kilnmead car park and she was later spotted in West Green in the townmead area which is where we have been conducting a thorough search this afternoon. If you know the area you will be well aware of all the wooded areas, garages, alleyways, streets, shops etc and only three people spotted her today who made calls to me directly as well as dog warden. I will be out again at first light. My only consolation is that she hasn’t travelled as far as yesterday so we can narrow the search area. Thank you for helping x

I think what's happening is some of the posters are being taken down. As there have been hundreds out out . But will make owner aware.

I have just come back from Crawley Town Centre, and thru West Green and Leisure Park this last hour as there are food outlets, and this was without seeing the latest update! Only two posters in Goffs Park, one on a tree alongside a path and one on a notice board. Local dog walkers in this park I spoke to are not aware. More postering needed.

UPDATE... Poppy seen in West Green Sunday afternoon
Jo Golder
Latest update,

Poppy/ Moschi was seen in the Crawley town, near Morrisons this morning, Lots of help their right now.
Jo Golder
Last sighting by the owner was in Goffs park . she is slowing down now, so must be getting tired.
May I ask that not to shout to loud when calling as this will just make her run more. Best to just call to report sightings please. She wont understand her new name of Poppy but should Moschi .
Jo Golder
She is running and not stopping for no one

I’ve driven round the area she bolted from (RH11 0PD) with no joy 😥 I did bump into her Mum who is out looking, she said she only arrived Saturday and is a Romanian rescue who is nervous, she went from Creasys Drive and towards Hyde drive and it’s possible she went towards the mill pond but could have stayed in the residential area, so hope she is found soon
