Taking down Sooty posters around Cobham, got the one at Oxshott station. There are posters for another Spaniel missing in the area. Liver and white springer, missing 6/2/8. I've phoned and left Dl info on their answermachine, also sent details to Sue, sorry KT people !! Maybe he is found.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes we were very fortunate with the response we had this time, whether its because they though they had a mad woman on the case or were genuinely in the area to help I guess I'll never know. In any event this was the first case for this officer of this type, so my parting words were 'you know where I am now, theres more to come'! We will get the police onside, but its going to be a slow process and lots of patience from helpers - hard as it is at times. Keep picking away at them will only serve to get backs up. We will win, with everyones help and support. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just to say he is definately home and looking good. Patsy rang me earlier today to say she had spoken to owner and that he had received a call from someone who claimed to have Sooty. Would I call and have a chat. Spoke to owner and the call originally came through last night, but owner was not able to take it. Man rang back today and spoke to owner, said he was fairly sure it was Sooty and he had bought him in a pub for ?400!! I can hear the comments now!! So long as he got his money back owner could come and collect Sooty from an address in Claygate. Owner was concerned to go alone so I said I would go with him in my car. Just as I got to owners house he had a call through from the police who were in the area. Owner advised them what we were about to embark on and they agreed to come with us. Owner got his paperwork of proof together and I nipped home to get my scanner and meet them at the address. When I arrived the man was being interviewed in the police van and Sooty had been placed in 'custody' in the back. We got him out before he dug a hole in the bottom of the van and I scanned him. Chip number was of course a match. Matter will be passed on for investigation, but it seems the finder thought he had bought a Springer to mate with his one. He did not let up about the ?400 he had paid out and tried to get owner to pay out. Police advised him several times owner was under no obligation to pay him anything. I of course said I found it hard to believe a man of the world, as he came across as, would be suckered into buying a dog without papers in a pub. No comment back! Suggested he find the guy who sold it to him and ask for his money back. Went back to Sooty's home and he just couldn't contain his excitement, let out in the garden and went for a dip in the pond!! I think his mum will be bathing him later when she gets home. So there we are another happy ending thank goodness. Well done all you lot for the posters and thanks Annie for offering to door to door for owner. Lots of posters to come down but we enjoy that don't we. Sooty had lots of hugs, I got lots of hugs from him and a bit more ( I said licks were enough!) lol. Suggested owner might consider castration as a deterent and to calm him down. Off to get some painting done now before OH gets home and asks what I've been doing all day, lol. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have owners put small leaflets through all the doors on the estate? I know this sounds a huge task but if they've got swimming pools and ponds it's got to be worth it - this is the one thing that's bothering me the most having not heard anything also that a lot of the big houses with enormous gardens are sometimes overgrown and I dread that he's got stuck with his little jumper... sorry to sound on a downer but it has to be thought of doesn't it :o(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had to go into Epsom to the Derby Centre this morning, coming out of the car park, right by the lifts, lovely poster of Molly ! Main parts of Arbrook done - I hope that I've postered enough, I started at the Claygate end (Arbrook Lane) & went up the LHS. Did all the main 'cross roads' went to the livery yard, & then on up between the fields under the A3 & railway. Did not do much beyond that. Came back along the horse riding path, & put some more out there. Did not do any on the bits near Copsem Lane. Dropped one in to my vet in Claygate, went to the tree surgeon (what a lovely bloke!) He said he would notify neighbours but I did also see a DL poster on the corner. Went to Barwell & got a very enthusiastic reception from a woman rider who said she would distribute some posters around the estate. I so hope this boy is home very soon. Have put posters in Tesco garage in Leatherhead. Main store still did not have poster on display this evening - gave them another one to put up. Have also postered Oxshott Road (outside Cloudshill Farm stables, Charlwood Drive, Wrens Hill, opp.The Bear pub by Daneshill), Also Blundell/Steels Lane in Oxshott and outside Woodlands Park Farm livery stables. Many, many more posters needed in the area. I don't have much time tomorrow, so please other helpers do poster for Sooty where you can, especially where lots of people see posters (outside schools, pubs, shops etc). Can someone get to big Sainsbury in Cobham (Annie?) Sue: could poster be amended to be more accurate as Sooty went missing from Crown Estate, Oxshott (not Leatherhead). Was it Birds Hill Rise/Road? Annie: no, this is not same part of Crown Estate as St Bernard went missing (that was Queens Drive). This is the area behind Oxshott, between the village and Fairoak Lane. I did mention the danger of pools to owner when I spoke to her a couple of days ago (they have a pool themselves) and suggested that winter pool covers could be a danger. Lots of pools in the area. Also ponds in Princes Coverts/Crown Woods. She said she would check with neighbours. Thank you for postering Esher Common Jan - that's great as lots of riders and walkers go there. Anyone have time to do Arbrook Common tomorrow? That's the common that links Claygate with Oxshott with a bridleway under the A3. Will have more time at weekend myself. Forgot to say, postered in various places over Esher common this morning, including main car park, near black pond and this side of the various pedestrian/horse ride bridges that come over from the Oxshott side. I was thinking of the garden centre this morning Annie, wonder if Mollys people have taken one there ? Might be worth owners of Sooty speaking to Chessington W. of A. asking them to look round, as it's closed to the public at the moment (I think), there may not be that many people about. This is rather an 'affluent area' as has been observed, I imagine lots and lots of private swimming pools around. Hate to think this but have they definitely all been checked out ? Thanks everyone. If posters are going on to the Ashtead / Leatherhead common side please do not poster the trees. We have an agreement with the rangers and respect their wishes. Has anyone been to Chessington Garden Centre? Patsy, is this part of the estate that the St Bernard went missing from? I basically put them anywhere that isn't going to cause any problems with owners, if I see anyone I always say we take them down once they have been found I look at it that if we put where there's a problem we'll know about it soon enough, though generally I believe we're all pretty good. With regard to trees, only on ones with thick bark as it won't damage them, nothing can get into the workings of the tree unless put right through thick bark into the layer underneath... though do-gooders might try and tell you otherwise! (I'm a horticulturalist so I should know!!)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Think Jan (Xenas mum) must have been a suffragette in a former life, such initiative and determination. Sudden thought, have Sootys family contacted Chessington World of Adventures ? If he came out the Fairlawn Lane end of Birds Hill Rise he wouldn't have far to go to the back entrance and perimeter fences of Chesssington. There are contractors cutting down trees along that stretch as well, although owners have probably spoken to them, mention it just in case.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If you have a problem getting posters put up at Supermarkets try putting some on the inside of the cubicle doors of the ladies toilets, the cleaners are unlikely to close the door and unless the staff actually use those toilets they wont know the posters are there for ages! Has anyone contacted railtrack I would but don't know the area well enough - Patsy could you do this if owners haven't - it's better if someone outside of the family does it. Dear Sooty, am I right in thinking that the crown estate is private? there are loads of yards around there. I can get to them at the weekend, pachesham, woodlands, cloudshill etc. Also a perminate caravan site just down the round next to the council tip on the way too the river. The river also runs along the back behind the woodlands park hotel. I will be out and about on Saturday around that area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Anyone postering the Heath/Oxshott Station do please give posters to any forestry contractors working there - they helped get a dog back for us a few months ago. I've passed this on to Nikki at ECR. Not really that far from where Molly went missing, cross country anyway. Sort of area that there are loads of 'gardening/fencing' type persons driving around. Will try and get out with posters today, but most of the places I would poster have been done already by owner. I wonder if they have taken a poster into the nearby station and alerted the rail people. There is a level crossing nearby, unfortunately. Owner has alerted Police, Elmbridge EH as they have contractors, RSPCA and local vets. Owner already has a few posters up in the Oxshott area so let show her what we can do and get our posters up. JanS thank you for bringing to our attention. Crown Woods accessible from leatherhead Road, Malden Rushett - Fair Oak Lane and right back round to Oxshott, so a large area. He's been out for four days now so may have moved on a bit, assuming he is able. Patsy may have more advice and local knowledge. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
