I work in rescue and am saddened to see how many recently re-homed dogs are at Rainbow Bridge and I often look through Rainbow Bridge as a little tribute to them.

I was horrified to see this regarding Meg and have found the petition, signed it and shared it publicly on my fb page. I lost my Border Collie in Jan 2012 and still feel dreadful she passed alone in the vets - Meg's owner is heartless. KARMA.

So sorry to learn that lovely Meg did not make it home. Run free at Rainbow Bridge lovely girl.

As the Mail on line is covering the story as stated by Nina in earlier post...probably best to direct comments their way...as monitoring comments on Doglost is getting in the way of new missing dogs...and you will reach a bigger audience.

I just cannot get teh horrible thought out of my head what she went through when she saw him walk away and she was unable to follow, freezing to death.Sadly so many people from scotland commented on the facebook page saying it was only a dog and they would have done exactly the same, that shocked me to the core, that we have so many dog owners who don't really give two hoots about their loyal friend.I had trouble sleeping last night, kept thinking about the pain and sadness she felt when her owner just dumped her in the cold snow and let her freeze to death, never even raised an alarm. Not helping to look for her until 5 days later, and strangely enough found her,how bizzare.

I would die with my dog trying to keep warm together until we got help. HOW can anyone walk away from their best friend, the one who would stay with you till the end. I hope he NEVER gets the chance to own another dog. All I have to Sa is one word KARMA. Last edited: 2018-01-21 08:46:07

You abandoned this girl when she probably needed you most. A deliberate, and despicable act of selfishness, and cruelty. Remember Karma

Fly high and play pain free Meg. I pray you didn't suffer xx

Strangers were risking their lives trying to find poor Meg while the owner sat at home! He gave wrong information as to where he left her then went straight up today and allegedly found her. He is also not communicating or even thanked the people who risked their lives looking for his dog. Something not quite right here. Needs investigating and sspca notified.

So many conflicting stories on this story. Main focus is dear Meg. Fly high little one.

I just read it too on Scottish hillwalking Facebook. Poor Meg, this is one of the most heartbreaking stories I’ve ever read. There’s something not quite right here. Why has it taken the owner FIVE days to go looking for his dog that he abandoned on Sunday? He only appeared at 2 o’clock today and went up and found her dead.....strangers have been searching all week for Meg so it seems rather odd that he delays his search then finds her that day! Shocking way to treat your loyal companion...she would never have left him. She must have been so scared left alone to die. He does not deserve the love of another dog. I have no sympathy for him whatsoever. RIP beautiful Meg...you deserved better. Last edited: 2018-01-19 19:35:31

SATURDAY 20TH JANUARY - MASS SEARCH FOR MEG ON BEINN SGULAIRD.

MEETING POINT - Taraphocain, Appin PA38 4BJ. This is the empty farm house and a good base camp with shelter in the sheds if needed, an easy track to walk along and minimal parking. You can, however, park at the end of the drive so as not to block the main drive.
Taraphocain is the name of the house and very easy to find if you type it in to Google maps.

MEETING TIME - 10AM - Light is good by this time and allows those travelling some time to get on site but happy for folks to turn up when they can, but not really worth it after 3pm as it will be too dangerous and gets dark

Several search groups will be set up to cater for individual's experience and abilities.

For those on Facebook lots more information here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1776509839324288/

Can someone explain what happened to Meg on the mountain please? From what I have read on other sites her legs gave way and she couldn’t walk so does that mean she was left lying somewhere? Or was she struggling trying to catch up with her owner as they walked away from her? I don’t get this at all. Whatever way it happened it is shocking and so sad Last edited: 2018-01-19 11:02:13

So very sad to leave a faithful friend up a mountain. Don’t want to be negative and pessimistic but this is dreadful. What must poor Meg have thought when her owner abandoned her. The mountains can be extremely dangerous, especially in winter but to take an elderly dog up is just stupidity! I really hope she is found safe but i think it would be a miracle if she has survived. So sorry for her Last edited: 2018-01-19 11:01:40

Already posted on DogLost Highlands & Islands, Lost Dogs Glasgow and Scottish Hill Walking and Wild camping Groups.
Specialist help is being sought as Meg is missing near Beinn Sgulaird, a munro in Scottish Highlands.
Will add link and poster image to existing posts.
Drone SAR are aware but weather conditions are not good in the area.
Currently envisaged that land based search by experienced walkers is what is needed with possible mountain rescue involvement.Last edited: 2018-01-15 20:12:24 by GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland
