I haven’t got much to say right now as we are understandably heartbroken that our loving, sweet little man has gone, but the whole family & I would like to thank each and every one of you for all of your help & support over the past five days.

Update from Alfred’s granddaughter xx

The current plan for the search today as it stands, is to start to widen where we are looking. I will be asking anyone who can or wants to help to start covering the adswood/shaw heath/edgeley areas. Any fields, passages etc - anywhere that people aren’t likely to have seen him already, is where we think to go next. We believe he hasn’t gone further afield knowing what my Grandad is like & his mindset, he would have been just trying to get his way home, but may have gotten on a wrong local bus.
I’m not familiar with all of the areas in question, so any suggestions of where to cover would be helpful. Obviously Alexandra Park & possibly around County as he was trying to find the football field his house backs on to, so may have been directed there.

Once again, thank you all so much for not letting this quieten down & for keeping the search so active. I know how grateful my Grandad would be to you all for helping.

There is a Facebook group Help Find Alfred Sykes - you can see the organised searches if anyone wishes to help. I hope Alfred is safely found and back home with his family soon xxLast edited: 2018-02-11 16:40:50

Statement from GMP:

New photos of 80-year-old Alfred Sykes have been released.

Alfred, known as Alf to his friends and family, was last seen in the afternoon of Wednesday 7 February in the Davenport area.

He’s white, around 5ft 3in tall, of slim build and has short grey hair. It’s thought he may be wearing a dark fleece, jeans and a bobble hat.

Officers are continuing to search a number of areas for Alfred including Bramhall Park and the surrounding areas.

His granddaughter Natalie, said: “He’s funny and loves everyone. We just want him to come home - the days are long without him and the longer we are without him, the worse it is.”

His daughter Karen, said: “We just want people to keep looking out for him, he’s such a gentle man, he wouldn’t hurt a fly. We need him to come home.”

Anyone who sees Alfred or knows where he is should call police on 101 or through the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
