sent Arnie details again toBath Cat and Dogs home and Dogs Trust, may be worth calling dogs trust at Ilfracombe just in case, web site doesn't seem to be updated too often.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Not sure what else to do really other than relying on chip and waiting for news.very sad xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The Travellers/Irish gypies that where staying at Bodmin and were supposed to be going to Spain, ended up down further into Cornwall.First went to Perranporth, were moved on and went to Camborne where they where moved again,I thought I had located them elsewhere in Camborne but they moved again. There is a good possiblity that we have found them today as you can see some vehicles from the road at United Downs which is a couple of miles from Redruth, and a metal barrier has been broken in half to gain access to this area. Will be going down there early evening tonight with my husband to see if we can get close enough to see if its them and what dogs they have with them.Fingers crossed xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've just been informed that Arnie's ad was in the North Devon Gazette and Advertiser, not the North Devon Journal. The Gazette is a free paper, delivered to homes in the area so the ad should be seen by plenty of people.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think the North Devon Journal just ran an ad, rather than an article, so it's not showing up on the site. The people who organised the ad said it was definitely going to be in this week's paper though. The ad appears to be a copy of the Doglost poster.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done Arnie's mum ~ all this publicity will hopefully throw something up. The latest sighting at Fremington is very close to Barnstaple ~ there is an RSPCA branch there (not kennels) so worth letting them know too. Rednwhite thank you too for your efforts here especially with the NDJH ~ wonderful! Could you post the link to the article here so that we can all have a read? I am off to Cornwall myself today Arnie's mum so I will be looking out for Arnie (I'm going a bit further down the coast but you never know!) and all the other missing DL dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortunately, I wasn't in time to get the ad changed so it will run exactly as it appears on the Doglost poster. The North Devon Journal has quite a wide circulation so hopefully the ad will bear fruit.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That's great news thanks everyone. fingers crossed for the advert! I have had a text this morning to say that someone has seen a dog resembling Arnie on a main road in Bideford yesterday around 5.15 at the Northam roundabout. Apparently he was picked up by a passing car. She thinks it may have been the owners that picked him up, but if it was him, hopefully the chip will work! Have phoned the dog warden and dogs trust again. The dog at St Giles has quite a big flash of white on his chest, and is much bigger than Arnie (great Dane cross apparently!) so is not Arnie. didn't realise he had so many look-alikes!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've just been sent a proof of the ad which is due to run in the North Devon Journal this week. They've taken it from the poster and unfortunately have called Arnie "Arnie-sighted!" in the ad. I've asked my contact who organised the ad if it's possible to get it changed and also to change the spelling of Tintagel. I'm just hoping they have time to change the ad before it appears in the paper but it'll be good publicity for him anyway.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We all so want Arnie to be found, but any possible sighting is always just that - a possible sighting, until final confirmation. But every possible sighting carries a 50% chance that it actually is Arnie, so they have to be followed up. We need to keep postering in all our areas, and we need people to continue reporting those possible sightings, so they can be followed up, and that 50% chance seized!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I don't want to dash any hopes but I've been told that there's a local black lab cross who regularly "escapes" from home and can be seen wandering loose around the area of the road works. Just back from distributing some posters around the village and one of the pet shop owners told me they heard Arnie mentioned on Lantern FM, which is excellent news as they usually refuse to do this sort of thing. One local primary school had a "bring your dog to school" day today so I also left a poster there and spoke with a few of the owners. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks everyone! I contacted the dogs trust, rspca, dog warden (who was lovely! and remembers me contacting her at the time of Arnie's disappearance 2 months ago!!) and local vets yesterday afternoon. although i have the email for Argyll vets, the poster keeps bouncing back - is anyone visiting there over the next couple of days to perhaps of a poster?? i spoke with a lady at Lantern FM who doesn't usually advertise lost pets, however when i explained that he had been missing over 2 months and that we live in Birmingham and were desperate for local help she agreed to give him a quick mention which was so kind. thanks everyone for keeping an eye out! Arnie is very agile and could have easily covvered that distance in a couple of days never mind 2 months, so not put off by the distance. he is not keen on the water unless chasing a ball into it. he does love to chase rabbits etc though. fingers crossed x by the way, have left a msg at St Giles kennels with regards to the dog found, hopefully able to chat with them soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If so the burrows / crow point will be closest. Will get out and search tomorrow. Lantern FM radio is most popular station and are good with alerts. Only 3 miles up from Braunton is a large Dogs Trust.......has this been checked? Local warden is great I am assuming she has been contacted.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi rednwhite, looking at the map, there appears to be a lot of little villages around Braunton. What local radio stations help out? They could put out an appeal for sightings, direct people to Arnie's Doglost page for further info, and encourage people to print out and distribute more posters. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks so much ZZ, the article is fantastic and so true! Being so far away from Cornwall, this website is one of the only things that has kept my hope alive. I truely believe that i would have given up a long time ago if it wasn't for the support of all the DL helpers. It has also provided an answer for one of my dear friends who lost their dog in Birmingham last week. Unfortunately the dog has crossed rainbow bridge, however she never would have known what would have happened to him if she didn't receive a phone call from a kind gentleman who saw his poster and phoned her to tell her that he was run over. She found his body alongside the road where he told her what had happened and she buried him last night. she has peace now... Lots of love and thanks to you all xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have had a possible sighting of Arnie. Thanks to dog lost and all their helpers! Dog lost was advertised in the 'cornishman' and Arnie was featured. a couple travelling beween ilfracombe and barnstable last weekend got held up at some major traffic works in the Braunton area. whilst sitting in traffic, they watched a dog resembling Arnie cross the road to head towards a lady walking 2 black and white collies. The dog was without an obvious owner. Apparently the collie owner was a little distressed by the dog approaching her. many people were stuck in traffic at the same time, perhaps people who live in the area of the traffic works. is anyone local to these road works that could perhaps poster for us, we would be so grateful. thanksLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi - as far as I know we don't have any offical travellers sites in this area - we tend not to get many travellers here as the council are so quick to move them on. We do however get lots of 'traveller / hippie types' living permenantly in the Tintagel area so it may be that this lady was local. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We've had some news over the last couple of days! we've had a phone call from a lady to say that she believes that the dog warden has picked up a small-ish black lab locally. Frustratingly we are unable to get hold of him - I presume due to the Easter break, i will keep trying! in addtion, a lady from Boscastle has phoned to say that she has seen a dog matching Arnie's description last week in Boscastle with a 'traveller' lady and her son. he was wearing a blue collar, skinny with a small white flash on his chest. She has seen the posters at Penkitty's training classes (thank you so much Penkitty!) and thinks it may be him. She has kindly agreed that if she sees him again then she will ask the lady if they found the dog recently or try his name to see if he responds. I'm really excited as this is the only positive news that we have had, and I really have begun to give up hope... it's nearly 2 months now...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I can call Arnie's Mum tomorrow, if need be. From what I was told today, it really is just a case of hitting each carpark in person, and handing posters to the NT guys, along with a bit of background info. The man I spoke to today was interested and keen to help. I got the impression that he was happy to talk to other NT guys and spread the word - just need to keep reminding them! The NT carparks are well known, I should be able to organise coverage through north coast contacts. Will do a couple of them myself on Saturday. We have our first dog show on Sunday, in Falmouth (south coast). I'm not involved in the organising, so will concentrate on distributing posters, along with lots of Doglost info. Thanks ZZ for updating us with this. Would you be kind enough to give Arnie's mum a call tomorrow and let her know this (I know she is some distance away but maybe she could make some enquiries as to the best place for us to send the photos.) Then we will have t set about finding a way to get the posters where they will be seen! ZZ how close are you, would you be in a position to make sure the area is covered in DL osters in the NT car park next weekend or is this a tall order???Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have checked out Arnie's advert in the Western Morning News. He is described as 'slightly smaller and leaner' than a typical Lab, and has a very small flash of white on his chest. I hadn't realised this as you can't see it in the picture. Also gave posters to a National Trust man in the Camborne area, he told me the National Trust car parks open next weekend along the north coast. He had no knowledge of Doglost, or any of the missing dogs, and suggested it would be more effective for posters to be delivered direct into the hands of the National Trust guys out 'in the field', rather than contacting any of the offices. Frustrating, I know, as they have already been contacted! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Posters distributed at local St Piran's Day event, together with loads of info on Doglost - all well received, and quite a bit of interest shown. Hopefully will pull in some more local helpers. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Very good article in The Cornish Guardian. It can be accessed via www.thisiscornwall.co.uk - please read it. The issue of missing dogs is a growing problem right across the county, and we could do with more help of this kind from the local media.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks Dillondog, will try paper today/tmrw. have been in touch with local postman, however my understanding is that the post master isn't very pleasant and won't have posters up at work. will look on the internet for local milk men etc. thanks for ideas, will keep trying....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Arnie's Mum, sorry to see no news. Maybe you need to widen the search - ads in Western Morning News will get the widest coverage in the south west, and also read by lots of farmers, so could be one way to go. Did you manage to get posters to the main sorting offices, and to bin men and milk delivery people - anyone who's out and about early in the morning.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks Debbi_jayne. really does look like him. Phoned the dogs home this morning though and Trevor still has his bits, whereas Arnie has been neutered. Worth a go though, thanksLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

With the camping and caravan sites now starting to open it would be a good place to have posters up. One of the best web sites to get contact details is ukcampsite.co.ukLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks Penkitty, I emailed the NT also yesterday and have a response so hopefully now well informed. dillondog, i have leafleted all around Boscastle and Tintagel whilst there. Posters up in Bossiney, and of course what Penkitty has put out. Managed to get a response from the dog warden who has kindly suggested that if there are any further sightings that we could contact him and he would head out there asap. any other suggestions of what we could do from Brum very welcome? been 3 weeks today...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have given posters to a friend who works for the National Trust who is going to make sure all wardens and such like have a picture of Arnie so if they see him on their travels they will know it is him. Arnies Mum - great news on the sighting! Also yes, it would be normal to expect your other dog to be behaving out of character she is missing her pal and also will be picking up on your stress too. That's good news Arnie's Mum. How far from Bossiney/Tintagel have you managed to spread the word - may be worth hitting a wider area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

some positive news! the lady (postman's wife) who phoned me last Tues with a possible sighting on the Bossiney road last week has received a photo of Arnie by email and she is positive that it was him that she saw! fingers crossed...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks Nicky for your search, hate to think of him out there in this weather. thanks Dillonndog, i will fax the national trust today. Penkitty, thank you so much for your postering. i don't believe there is a connection with the missing man (Michael Thomas is his name, i wonder if there has been any more news about him?). I met Michaels mum on the Monday morning after he went missing (Arnie went missing the wed before) and he was feeling very sorry for himself and had left a note. My other dog is being a bit destructive and refusing to play ball on her walks, is this normal?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am afraid I am too far away,to know anyone near Tintagel am about 50 miles away, but will be up again soon. The missing man went on the 2nd of February,so there is a possibility. But why, how, and where are they would be questions that come to mind??? But if the postman's sighting was correct that was after that time anyway.Nicky xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry there's been no sightings, I will print off some more posters tomorrow and see if I can get them a bit further a field. I am about 10 miles from Tintagel, I have asked all my customers (I'm a dog trainer) to look out for him too, several of which live in the Tintagel area. Could there be any connection with the missing man from the same area??? Just a thought.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Arnie's Mum - just looking on google at the National Trust - their cornish office is based at Lanhydrock, near Bodmin. Doesn't appear to be an email address, but there is a fax number. Here's all the info: Cornish Regional Office Lanhydrock Bodmin PL30 4DE Tel: 01208 74281 Fax: 01208 77887 Maybe a fax of his poster with a covering letter, asking them to get it out to their rangers. Also, I don't know the area, but parking is often managed by the NT, so getting posters to parking places where they charge for the NT coffers may also be a good idea. Have there been any more sightings?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks dillondog, we phoned the dog warden 3x whilst in cornwall along with police, RSPCA, local kennel, vets in camelford, valley truckle and bodmin. we also advertised twice on radio cornwall, pirate and atlantic. Arnie went missing on the wednesday and unfortunately a man went missing on the Sat night (having left a note and feeling very sorry for himself) so the coastguard and police were out for 3 days Sun - Tues, and we asked all of these to keep a possible look out if they could. Tried a couple of the local farms, but was mainly searching on foot and i suspect he may have gone a lot further than i could! have emailed the dog warden today thank you, and a big thank you for your pm xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Arnie's Mum - sorry to see your boy is missing. I'm in Cornwall, but not close enough to be of searching help unfortunately. Can you tell us who you've notified etc re Arnie? Tintagel Area comes under North Cornwall District Council. The dog wardens are Alan Rathbone and Richard Downing, tel: 01208 893407, and email is: pollution.control@ncdc.gov.uk so if they're not already aware, do email a poster and try and speak to them in person as well. I will pm you my phone number, so do call if you need to. If not done so already, make sure all the local farmers have posters, you really want them on your side. Has the coastguard been notified? Hate to think of that, but worth informing them. Local taxis should have posters too, and postmen etc. Good luck, I hope he's home soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

dear Owl, Arnie went missing from the Bossiney cliff/common area at 2pm on the 30th Jan. Managed to extend my holiday (!) for a week and walked the coast path between Tintagel and Boscastle on a dialy basis but no luck. the possible sighting was from the postman on 12th feb around 20.30 down the Bossiney road (near the football fields). with regards to food he could be either hunting rabbits (loves to chase) or scavenge. he has Labrador in him, so bound to be getting his food from somewhere. thanks again for your helpLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Arnies mum, please will you tell us the exact location Arnie first went missing from and also the exact location plus date he was seen in Tintagel area? We find that dogs on the run often move in a triangular route, so we need to pinpoint all sightings on the map. Also, is Arnie likely to be hunting rabbits or mainly scavenging? Penkitty, please can you see that the taxi firms get posters? And mobile shops and library? I'm too far away to help with the search but know the area well from many holidays there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
